Akure – A teenager, Oluwaseyi Adelegan, 14, was on Friday murdered by unknown assailants at his father’s house in Akure.

The deceased is the son of Chief Solomon Adelegan, the National President, Amalgamated Union of Public Corporation, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services.

The Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO) in Ondo State, Mr Wole Ogodo, confirmed the incident the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

According to a source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, Oluwaseyi was found in a pool of his blood in his parents’ house.

The source said that deceased was hale and hearty when hissiblings left for holiday coaching in the morning and he wasthe only person left in the house.

“The siblings were surprised to find the dead body of their brother in the sitting room when they returned from school.

“The children raised alarm when they saw their brother, but the young boy was stone dead before their arrival,’’ thesource added.

Scores of sympathisers thronged the residence of Adeleganto condole with him on the death of his son.

Efforts by NAN correspondent to speak with the bereaved parents were not successful as they were in shock over the mysteries surrounding the death of their son. (NAN)

Politics / Re: Lagos Longest Serving Rep Wants 5th Term, Says 'I Pray Five Times Daily' by baynix(m): 11:47am On Aug 31, 2013
Even in the US they have those in power for more than 20years but the cerebral input and output is 2nd to none.
Politics / Lagos Longest Serving Rep Wants 5th Term, Says 'I Pray Five Times Daily' by baynix(m): 11:46am On Aug 31, 2013
Among his peers in the Lagos State Caucus of the House of Representatives, he is called ‘Four Star General’ in reference to his status as a fourth term member of the House.

Since the inception of the present democratic system in thecountry, Honourable Monsuru Alao Owolabi, has been a member of the House of Representatives.

In 1999, he was elected on the platform of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) to represent Lagos Island Federal Constituency 1, a feat he repeated in 2003 on the platform of the same party.

In 2007, Owolabi was back again representing the same Federal Constituency but this time on the platform of the Action Congress (AC) while in 2011, the Rep member was back in the House but this time representing Lagos Mainland Federal Constituency on the platform of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN).

This is why he is called ‘Four Star General’ by his colleagues and now he has not hidden his intention to come back to the House in 2015, saying that this time around, he wants to become a ‘Field Marshall’.

Owolabi is not a young politician neither is he the most brilliant Rep among his colleagues: he is over 70 years of age and investigation by thegazellenews.com has shown that he lagged behind in legislative activities in the House and if there is a rating of performance for him and his colleagues from Lagos in the House, Owolabi may probably ranked the least performer legislatively.

But the man has a very deep pocket and certainly does not shy away from contributing heavy financially into the activities and programmes of the party.

“He’s perhaps the only Rep member who can dole out N100million without batting an eyelid and he is very generous,” one of his colleague in the House told thegazellenews.com.

Indeed, his nickname is an apt description of his generosity. He is popularly called, ‘Alao Se’niyan’ meaning ‘Alao is a good man’.

Theg azellenews.com learnt exclusively that even before theregistration of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Owolabihas committed huge sums of money to printing posters, handbills, souvenirs and other items to be distributed whenthe party is officially inaugurated.

“He has printed hundreds of thousands posters, handbills as well as produced souvenirs on his own even before the party was registered, he’s a complete party man,” another Rep member told thegazellenews.com.

Among his peers, Owolabi is not hidden his intention to come back to the House. Whenever anyone of them asked him his plans for 2015, he has a ready made answer.

“As a Muslim, I pray five times daily, presently I’m observing Maghrib (the fourth of the Muslims’ five time daily prayers), definitely I will observe ‘Ishai (the fifth prayer),” he always answered those who bother to ask him.

With the way he is spending on the party even before the party was formally registered, don’t bet against the ‘Four Star General’ becoming a Field Marshall’

TV/Movies / Meet The Five Finalists Of Big Brother Africa; The Chase by baynix(m): 2:51am On Aug 20, 2013
The top five for the Big Brother: The Chase are Beverly, Cleo, Dillish, Elikem and Melvin.
We look at a few facts about their long journey in The Chase:

Elikem:
‘That nigga Elikem’, as his beau the gorgeous Pokello refers to him, became the first confirmed Finalist of The Chase.

The Ghanaian Chasemate fought quite a few battles to make it to the finish line in one piece.
Having been the target of serious frenemy squabbles, it took Elikem a while to wake up and smell the coffee.

The Taylor was quite popular with the ladies before settling with Zimbabwe’s Pokello and the ladies had to take a chill pill.

A man of firsts, Elikem is also the only Chasemate to havehad the nerve to Nominate his love-interest when he put up Pokello.
He is also the first Ghanaian to make it to the Finale.

This original Diamond became Head of House three times and survived five Evictions; twice by Africa and three times by the respective HoH.

Beverly:
Originally a Ruby, Beverly is probably the luckiest of the pack having gone through the entire Season without facing the dreaded Eviction dagger.

It’s safe to say that the Nigerian lass literally walked her way to the Finale.

On love, she had a bad experience very early in the game when Uganda’s LK4 tried two-timing her with South Africa’s Koketso.

Seeing the Ugandan choose Koketso over her must have been a huge blow but she soldiered on, thanks to being Swapped to the Diamond House.

No one wanted to believe that Betty’s Bolt had his eyes fixed on Beverly but that was her story and she stuck to it.

It was only after Bolt moved to the Ruby House that he started confessing to a few transgressions.

Beverly won HoH twice during the Season.

Cleo:
Hakeem’s sweetheart or Mrs Mandaza as she became fondly known on the Big Brother Africa Twitter streets, Cleo surprised many when she pulled herself together and continued with The Chase even after her beau was booted out.

Having survived four Evictions, the Zambian emcee has proved to be quite a strong contender in the game.

Though this original Ruby couldn’t quite crack winning Head of House, she really pulled her weight and was always so close.

Dillish:
The last confirmed Finalist, Diamond Dillish must still be pinching herself after surviving the last Eviction that saw South Africa’s Angelo and Ethiopian Bimp bite the dust.

The princess, as Pebbles calls her, is another one that became a regular under the guillotine but Africa would not hear any of it and she was Saved on all occasions.

Though she managed to go through the entire Season without falling for any of the guys, Dillish occasionally spoke about yearning for some good loving.

Sadly, the Namibian princess failed dismally to make Headof House.

Melvin:
The only Chasemate to have tested fate and put his own head on the chopping block during his tenure as Head of House, a move that will go down as one of the boldest of the Season.

Perhaps that’s the reason why his fellow Housemates could not Nominate him ever again, they were still picking up their jaws from the floor.

The Nigerian hottie almost wears a permanent smile and never bothers anyone.

That’s why it was quite a spectacle when Dillish rubbed him the wrong way this week, making him very angry.

Though he only faced Eviction once, by his own doing anyway, Melvin won Head of House three times during his days as a Diamond.

This actually made it hard to recall that Melvin is actually an original Ruby.

Though everyone is now a Ruby, fact remains that we have three original Rubies and two original Diamonds in the Top 5.

Ghana, Namibia, Nigeria and Zambia are represented in the Finale.

Anambra Govt Orders The Arrest Of Beggars With Children, 29 Arrested So Far

CHAMPION, DEC 4, 2011

By Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, Awka

In its determined efforts to rid the state environment of beggars daily increasing in their numbers, the Anambra state government has issued an ultimatum to all the street beggars especially those using children to beg in Anambra state to vacate the streets or face arrest within 72 hours.

Meanwhile over 29 beggars with children have been arrested in Awka and Onitsha , warned and repatriated back to their various states of origin mostly Ebonyi and Akwa Ibom states to mention but a few.

Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development , Dr Ego Cordelia Uzoezie disclosed Friday in Awka when a middle aged woman was arrested begging with 9 children at various points in Awka.

The attention of Dr Uzoezie was drawn to the beggar with children when one of the kids begging at Unizik junction Awka , 6 years old Goodnews Sunday was hit while begging by an Okada operator injuring her jaw.

She was later taken to Beacon Hospital Awka after two hospitals turned her down when good Samaritans rushed her to hospital for first aid. Reasons for her rejection are yet to be ascertained as at press time.

Uzoezie decried the attitude of some parents who indulgein using children to beg, warning that after 72 hours any beggar seen in the state would be arrested by the law enforcement agents and the special task force of the ministry of women affairs and social development.

The accident victim Goodnews said she came from Akwa-Ibom Oron in Akwa-Ibom state and is staying with her mother at Isu-Aniocha but her twelve years old Sister, Blessing Sunday not only concurred the story of her sister but admitted that her mother actually sent them to go for the begging and that they used to be students of Anointed Nursery/Primary school Awada Obosi until they were pushed into begging following taunts on their mother who use to hawk curry and garri at Onitsha by one Happiness from Calabar.

Blessing further informed that the accident victim is a twin and that their parents now do nothing but to depend on what they were able to get from the begging. She said they would use it to pay for their school fees andhouse rent and equally build a house. She however contradicted herself when she later said she and her sisterwere being enslaved by one, Happiness who was already repatriated but came back to Anambra.

The other woman with 5 children, Mrs Nwakaego Eze from Amafor Uli, in Ihiala local government of Anambra state married to Arochukwu in Abia state blamed her begging now on week days to the dislocation of her husband and others from the Army barracks Onitsha as their begging before now was only on weekends.

She said although they have a house at No 2 Igbamaeze Street Awada Obosi , she equally rented a house at Isu-Aniocha to enable them sleep after begging in Awka. She said her children were not begging with her before asthey were students of Basic Foundation but since after the Army Barracks dislocation they have joined her in begging, She further said they are now going to AnointedNursery/Primary School Awada Obosi. She promised not to use the children for begging again, if allowed to walk home free.

But the Director Child Development , Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development , Mr Emeka Ejide warned the beggars to leave their children alone and can beg if they choose to as the interest of the ministry and Anambra state government are on the children. He said the Ministry has repatriated more than 29 women begging with children to their various states and would not hesitate to deal with parents who still engage in such acts describing them as products of Mammy market Onitsha where anything goes before its closure.

One of the good Samaritans who rushed the victim to hospital Mrs Stella Samuel incidentally an indigene of Akawa Ibom wondered why people from Akwa Ibom state must still be begging in Anambra state when the Governor of Akwa Ibom, Governor Godswill Akpabio had declared free education for children of the state. She said the accident happened in front of her shop and she had to run around to save the life of the girl but was shocked that no hospital wanted to accept her until later when theMinistry took custody of her and others.

But the President General of Akwa-Ibom Central Union, Anambra state , Sir Chris Ekanem who not only admitted that the victim and some of the beggars came from Akwa-Ibom but requested for authority for them to repatriate them home since their Governor Akpabio has given free education to people like them.

He appealed that those who brought them to Anambra only to subject them to begging should be punished adding that they had reported to the police the incident. He revealed that the children told him in their dialect thatthey were many in the state from the same Akwa Ibom doing the same business of begging in Anambra state.

Obi moves to rid Anambra of destitute

National Daily: MONDAY, 12 DECEMBER 2011 08:54 HITS: 211

• Orders arrest of beggars with children

IN line with his resolve to sanitize Anambra State and rid it of beggars who are daily increasing in their numbers, Governor Peter Obi has issued an ultimatum to this effect.

Under the ultimatum, beggars, especially, those using children to beg in the state have been ordered to vacate the streets or face arrest within 72 hours.

So far, over 29 beggars with children have been arrested within the Awka capital city and Onitsha. They have since been repatriated back to their various states of origin, which are mostly Ebonyi and Akwa Ibom.

This was disclosed by the State Commissioner for WomenAffairs and Social Development , Dr Ego Cordelia Uzoezie, while exchanging views with journalists over the arrest of a middle aged woman in Awka, while begging on the streets with nine children.

The attention of the Commissioner was drawn to the beggar, when one of the kids begging at Nnamdi Azikiwe University junction, six-year old, Goodnews Sunday, was hit by an Okada operator while begging and injuring her jaw in the process.

The child was later taken to Beacon Hospital Awka, for first aid after two hospitals turned her down for reasons which could not be ascertained as at the time of filing thisreport.

Uzoezie decried the attitude of some parents, who, she said, were indulging “in using children to beg,”

She warned that “after 72 hours, any beggar seen in the state would be arrested by the law enforcement agents and the Special Task Force of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.”

Similarly, the Director, Child Development , Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development , Mr Emeka Ejide, also warned the beggars “to leave their children, alone, and beg if they choose to, as the interest of the ministry and Anambra state government are on the children.”

Anambra Orders Arrest Of Child Beggars

Leadership, December 4, 2011 – DAVID-CHYDDY ELEKE

The Anambra state government has issued a warning to all street beggars, especially children used by their parents to beg for alms, to vacate the streets or be arrested.

29 of such women who displayed their children as strategy for getting alms have already been arrested in Awka and Onitsha, and repatriated to their home states; Ebonyi and Akwa Ibom states.

The state commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr. Ego Cordelia Uzoezie, disclosed Friday in Awka when a middle-aged woman was arrested for begging with nine children at various points in Awka.

Uzoezie said her attention was drawn to the spectacle when one of the children who begged at the Unizik junction, Awka, six-year-old Goodnews Sunday, was hit in the jaw by an Okada rider, while he begged.

Uzoezie decried the attitude of some parents who used their children to beg for alms, and warned that after 72 hours any beggar seen in the state would be arrested by the law enforcement agents and the special task force of the ministry of women affairs and social development.-

Politics / Fashola Seeks Nigeria - Russia Cooperation In Railways by baynix(m): 1:04am On Aug 20, 2013
Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola(SAN), yesterdaycanvassed mutual collaboration between Nigeria and Russia in the development of rail transportation, saying itwas the only way to safeguard and guarantee long life span for roads and highways across the country.
Fashola, who spoke in Lagos House, Alausa, while hosting the Russian Ambassador to Nigeria, Nickolay Udovichenko, said Nigeria, needs to take a lot of cargo offher highways in order to extend their lifespan.
Noting that Russia has already developed such a technology, he said it was necessary that government, showed interest and begin talks with Russia to imbibe and adapt the technology in order to take more goods and heavy duty cargo off her highways.
“One thing that has interested me is the success of the Russian Railway and the expanse of development it has achieved over the years and, if I am not mistaken, the trucking by rail of several millions of cargo over about 9, 000 kilometres yearly. These are areas where, even as a country, Nigeria urgently needs to develop”, the Governor.
He told the Ambassador, “We need to take a lot of cargo off the roads, and if that technology already exists in a place like Russia, I think that our Government, not only atthe state level but also at the national level, should also be showing interest and talking to you because that is theonly way that I know that we can prolong the life of our roads and major highways across the country; if we can get more goods, more heavy duty cargo trucked by rail”.
“So these are some of the areas that I think in terms of economic cooperation between our two countries and thestates that are consisting of those two federations and also that a lot can be done. I think your visit sets the ball in motion and I am anxious, to put it mildly, to explore possibilities”, he said.
Noting the desire of the Ambassador for collaboration in cultural and business exchanges between Lagos and Russia, Governor Fashola declared, “I am sure you will be hearing a lot more from our agencies in the next few weeks and in the next few months”, .
tion to him to visit Saint Petersburg, Governor Fashola, who said he had known much about the history and rich tradition of the city as a student of European History hinted that his team would visit the city in due course.
“St. Petersburg is a city that I am familiar with as a student of European History so I have some knowledge of its history and its very rich tradition even in the old Soviet Union and I have kept some track of its development in the advent of what one may call a more democratic Russia today. I certainly look forward ultimately in meeting the Governor”, he said.
Thanking the Ambassador for the courtesy of his visit, Governor Fashola pledged, “I will only commit that our Government here will give you that support that you need to discharge your responsibilities efficiently. I thankyou for the courtesy of this visit and for your condolence message and you have my assurances for a very successfultenure and the support of all our team”.
Earlier, in his opening remarks, the Russian Ambassador, who condoled with the Governor over the passage of his father, also expressed the desire to discuss bilateral and business relations with Lagos saying he had heard a lot of reports about the Governor which, according to him, “are very positive”.
“I arrived here three months ago and I have heard a lot from people who tell me your activities in Lagos and I salute your efforts to improve the life in Lagos”, the Ambassador said adding that in terms of bilateral relations with Nigeria he intends to be a facilitator and not a mediator.
Expressing the strong desire to boost the political and economic relations already existing between the two countries, especially in the areas of Education, the Ambassador pledged to do his best to realize and deepen the relationship during his tenure.
He said the desire of the Governor and his team to visit Saint Petersburg was welcome and the government was eagerly waiting to receive the team from Lagos and to start a possible cooperation between the City and Lagos.
“Saint Petersburg is a city of only, I can say, about five million people. It is not very much like Lagos, but it is a very historical city”, the ambassador said adding that he had no doubt that the Governor and his team would admire it.
Noting that he had been in discussion with the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), the Ambassador also promised to invite a business delegationnot only to Nigeria but to Lagos adding, “I consider that Lagos is a very big city, the centre of business of this country”.
According to the Ambassador, who said he would also try to invite the Russian cultural group to come and perform in Lagos, “I am ready to work hard in order to improve our bilateral relationship”.
Also present, were the Commissioners for Works and Infrastructure, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat and Tourism and Inter-Governmental Relations, Mr. Disun Holloway, the Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Prince Segun Oniru, the Acting Chairman ofthe All Progressive Congress, Chief Henry Oladele Ajomale and the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Foreign Relations, Ms Toyin Caxton-Martins, while the Ambassador was accompanied by the Senior Counselor, Economic Affairs of the Embassy, and Counselor, Head of Lagos Office.

Kulas: The more the crisis, the more soludo stands a chance of winning,no wonder he had read the handwritting on the wall and decamped to APGA.PDP will not make it in Anambra unless an "electoral rigger" Andy Uba and his brothers applied rigging, otherwise under fair and free election,Uba can never win Anambra governorship election. For Ngige, his own chapter is closing gradually unless he leave APC.I was once his suppoter, but right now his popularity is going down due to his inablity to dump the so called Alhaji Peoples Congress(APC) and the recent deportation of igbos by fashola(APC governor). That MUST surely affect his chances of making it.I heard last week he was stoned and booed by some Anambra youths. For Ifeanyi Uba,he is just a money bag politician and a political learner. In all, better chances awaits Prof.Chukwuma Soludo (who manjority of people believe that he can deliver)as the next governor of Anambra state.
