Jobs/VacanciesRe: Oil Company Job Or Traveling Abroad by BazyLastard: 1:39pm On Dec 03, 2021
Is the offer in Dollars? Take it.

Else? Travel. I was in a similar position a few years ago. Accepted the offer in Naira and stayed because it was very big. Then the Naira began tumbling. After 3 - 4 years and multiple increments my salary was still a third of the initial value in dollars. It even got to the point that my employer was giving me increments for shits and giggles. I tried to renegotiate in dollars and they refused.

My mates that travelled then now had several investments in dollars and I was still struggling with the Naira.

My advice? If you don’t have a job in CA yet, you can take this one first, still accept the PR and quickly complete the PR process. Then use any friends address to start applying for jobs in CA. Interviews are all online now, nobody will know where you are. When you get one my brother japa abeg.

Leaving was one of the best decisions I made. Bubu and the rest of the political class all have visas and properties abroad. Them get another option na wetin make dem no send we country.

Give your children the privilege of foreign citizenship if you can. Na still we country, we go carry kaya enter back anytime we want.

Nairaland GeneralINEC Postpones Elections To Feb 23 Just Hours Before Polls Open by BazyLastard(op): 4:49am On Feb 16, 2019
Nigeria’s presidential election, which was due to be held on Saturday, has been postponed to 23 February, the chairman of the country’s electoral commission said just hours before the vote was due to take place.

The Independent National Electoral Commission chairman Mahmood Yakubu, said proceeding as previously scheduled was not feasible.

He said the delay was needed to hold a free and fair election.

“The commission came to the conclusion that proceeding with the election as scheduled is no longer feasible. Consequently the commissioners decided to reschedule the presidential and national assembly elections to Saturday 23 February 2019,” he said.

President Muhammadu Buhari faces a tight election contest in Nigeria, Africa’s largest economy, top oil producer and most populous nation against the main opposition candidate, businessman and former vice president Atiku Abubakar.

The election has been seen as a referendum on Buhari’s first term, which has been marred by his prolonged absence due to illness, a weak economy, and the government’s failure to effectively tackle corruption and insecurity.

The country’s presidential elections in 2011 and 2015 were also delayed over logistics and security issues.

Prior to the announcement there were statements commenting on concerns over the election.

An electoral commission official said that “some result sheets and some ballot papers are reportedly missing. We want to track every (piece of) sensitive material, take inventory of what we have and what is missing”.

And a government official said, “The legitimacy of the entire process will be questioned and the winner could lack the moral authority to superintend the affairs of the state.”

One Western diplomat said: “Sensitive materials (ballot papers and results sheets) have been delayed in being distributed.”

Nigeria is also dealing with pockets of instability. Throughout the day, authorities bolstered security in much of the country on the eve of the vote in Africa’s largest democracy where past elections have been marred by violence, voter intimidation and ballot rigging.

A faction of Boko Haram attacked a state governor’s convoy on Tuesday, killing four people and stealing vehicles. Elsewhere, 15 people were crushed to death at a ruling party rally in eastern Port Harcourt. On Thursday, 14 sacks of ballot papers were intercepted in Kano state – though police said they were merely “specimen” papers to educate voters.

As Nigerians prepared to cast their votes, data analysts raised concerns about the number of new voters registered since January 2018, which they said increased by almost exactly the same percentage in each of the country’s states, and suggested that the results of Saturday’s presidential election could be open to mass rigging.

Plotted on a scatter line graph, there was a 0.99 correlation across all the states, without a single outlier. According to three separate data analysts, the parity cannot be a coincidence, and two of them called it a “statistical impossibility”.

“Only God works that closely,” one said.

But other observers said there were other possible explanations for the correlation, including demographics.

“In itself, it’s not an indicator of any kind of electoral malpractice or manipulation,” said economist Nonso Obikili. He said the correlation in the registration figures across states was “what you would expect, because demographic changes don’t happen very quickly”.

If some of the new voters registered are fake, it could imply meddling at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) , though it is unclear whether it would be the ruling party or the opposition that would stand to benefit.

Additional data seen by the Guardian shows irregularities in registration for the 2015 election in which Buhari came to power, until now considered to have been free and fair.

AutosRe: List Of Reputable Auto Dealers On Nairaland by BazyLastard: 7:57am On Jan 03, 2017
Niseed:
whilst this might be a good idea, I think buyers are responsible for carrying out necessary checks on a vehicle before purchase.

Quite a few dealers started off without any issues and were constantly praised for their "clean" vehicles before things took a different turn.

@ Op should a deal go awry with any of the names you listed are you going to refund the customer?

the only way a verified list will work is if the dealers sign up for some sort of money or take back guarantee that protects the buyer if vehicle delivered is not as described.

there will always be dodgy dealers and naive customers. both parties need each other. so it's buyer beware.

also the fact that a car is "used" does not mean there must be random fixes to be made. many have gotten used cars in the past with no surprise fixes popping up other than the normal service.
The list does not have to be infallible for it to work. A disclaimer can be added to the post to let users that NL has no liability in dealing with the people on the list and remind the users that they still need to verify and do the usual checks. Furthermore, steps to take to verify the car could even be added even the required documents to request for.

The problem is, the people who fall for scams most times on NL autos are newbies who do not understand the environment. A sticky thread like this could go a long way to inform them on the right steps to take, and to trust no one with their money.

When good dealers go rogue, they often end up scamming quite a number of people before an alarm is raised. With a list like this, once somebody reports one of the dealers on the list for some shady business, a warning can quickly be raised and they can be suspended or blacklisted until the issue is cleared. This would be added incentive for the dealers not to misbehave so they don't get blacklisted.

Seun where are you? Could you come clear up your concerns around this and why you stopped the initiative before?
AutosRe: List Of Reputable Auto Dealers On Nairaland by BazyLastard: 7:20am On Dec 31, 2016
This list should be maintained by Seun, or the Autos section mod and should be sticky and at the top of the Autos section.

There should also be a clearly defined criteria to join this list.
- Years of trading with zero fraud reports
- Number of votes from satisfied customers recommending the seller to join this list
etc.

Think of all the fraud cases that could have been avoided if something like this existed.

I think Seun might be missing a trick here. The nairaland autos section can be doing a lot better than it currently is. Stories upon stories of fraud are scaring away users.

I don't see any truth, only an insult. You need to realize that we live in a country where freedom of expression is at least constitutional. If my response to the post was "shabullalariradidalalalalala..." or whatever makes sense to me, so long as it does not break Nairaland's posting rules, it is my point of view which I am allowed to express.

Trouble is, when we all come online and put on the mask of anonymity, our true nature quickly shows. If this had been an offline conversation in the real world were someone had given that news and I responded with that comment, do you think emmalexabl would have responded like that?

Give a man a mask and he will show his true face.

I don't mean the bank charges for transfers. I mean airtime deductions for using the service. First I thought it was just my telco flexing my credit but when I made enquiries I was informed that the bank charges per *737# session.

Yes na, I get charged between N5 and N10 any time I use it. From my airtime. GTB conveniently forgets to mention that.

BusinessRe: See What Huffington Post Says About Gtbank And Some Other Banks by BazyLastard: 7:09am On Jul 03, 2016
GTB's *737# is a bit of a scam. You get charged the transaction fee even if the transaction fails. Theives, they should just wait...

Anyway CBN's decision to bar the telcos from using airtime for transactions was painful sha, even though it was not unfounded. They were trying to avoid the creation of a shadow currency in the country which they would be unable to control, since airtime is as ubiquitous as the naira.
