It's a shallow economy heavily dependent on export....
Their domestic economy is not well developed and the financial sector is not very sound....
They need to attain a GDP per capita around 25 thousand dollars for the domestic economy to be main drive of economy growth....now it's just 10 thousand dollars

If the rest of the world choose to decouple their manufacturing capability away from China.....china will really struggle....
Yet they are busy picking meaningless fights.....

China is not USA....they will be foolish to think they can project power in like manner....
China achieved its economic present status via promoting trade and investment....
That's why many countries see them as a better alternative to USA....
Xi Jinping will do well to desist from this aggressive but likely destructive part and seek advice from his predecessors.....
He may destroy the goodwill China once enjoyed.....

You're absolutely right. In a fair world, HK should be allowed both by China and Britain to determine its destiny- whether to be an independent state or be reunited with China.

But this world is not a fair world. Meanwhile, try to understand the perspective of China in this matter. HK was always part of China, till after the Opium wars. Then China was a relatively weak country, economically and militarily. They were unfairly dominated by the British, and forced into making "unequal" treaties. Today, China is no longer the country it used to be some 150 to 200 years ago. It is now a very influential country, among other things.

How does my post suggest that the partitioning of Africa is good to me? Did I say they should remain under the UK? I'm never supporting the UK. I never insinuated they did the right thing. But I'm vehemently advocating for the right of the people of HK to make their own choices. They should decide if they want to remain a territory or a Sovereign state. This is only fair. They are Han people but they are not enclosed by China. And that shouldn't take away their right to decide if they want to be independent or not. It is very normal for a tribe to span across two countries. There are Yorubas in Benin Republic, there Hausas in Niger. They could be Han people in both China and HK. They should be given a referendum to say what they want. Why is that a problem?

China was foolish to have signed that agreement in the first place. China was still weak then but now the agreement is coming to an end.
