Good evening People, A friend of mine is planning to fly with Qatar Airways but found out they have stringent policies for pregnant passengers. Please can someone who had travelled with them recently share the experience with me? Please will deeply appreciate. |

Dears, Please help me out with the below concerns: 1. Can my infant travel back to Nigeria with just the ETC? 2. One of the contacts at Nigerian embassy I got in this forum asked for $350 for the ETC to be paid into her personal account. Is this how it works? I omitted her name on purpose. Just want to know if you paid to a personal account. 3. We are travelling with Delta airlines, called to add my baby and they said $445. Please has anyone here travelled with Delta recently and how much did it cost to add an infant and at what point did you do that?
Sorry for the long question. Make una help o! |

vamum: Wow!! So sorry about your experience with your Aunt some people are just not straight forward and don't fear God. God help us all. I think you should however recant your 1st statement that you wont stay with anyone, it was eventually someone that helped you right, who you eventually stayed with it (looks like from your post).
To a lot of people's comments, we have wonderful Hosts and wonderful Guests. We all just need to be more understanding. If you truly can't stay with or accommodate someone for an extended period it will do both parties a whole lot of good if you're open up upfront. A lot of Nigerians don't know how to say No and like being overly diplomatic. I have hosted people in Nigeria (from US) and when I came over here to the US too hosted people (from Nigeria). It will be great if you know the persons character and like people have said work with the understanding that you are hosting a pregnant woman. Setting expectations is always a bid deal, some people don't truly know what to do or expect in the US. It is very very different from Nigeria especially on utilities...
Expectations for Hosted Conserve power (turn of lights, turn off TV and appliances when not in use) Conserve water (turn off tap when brushing, not in use, dont wash 3 pieces of clothes in the washer) Clean up (dishes, house, bathrooms and if they have a maid/cleaning service chip in on paying/tipping the maid) It is not your house, so please be mindful of how your host wants stuff placed around the house, in cabeop My host is a friend to a colleague. I paid $1k per month as rent. She takes me to my appointment and shopping when it's convenient. She was with me while in hospital for birth of my baby. I brought some food stuff while coming. She actually told me before I came that she won't be under any obligation to cook for me and I agreed. I eat what they cook and also cooked like twice but I noticed they didnt eat my food, so I stopped cooking or just cook what I will exhaust right away. Can't wait to go back home. Home is home any which way. |

Mamatam: Did I mention that this Mrs B who had so much cravings for nigerian food could not bring ordinary knorr cubes when she came oo. She told me she didnt want to carry any food in order not to be sent to secondary inspection or delayed. Yet she ate mainly african food here. Im not saying all this to complain or something, lik I said earlier, my house is relatively big and could accomodate people but its the attitude that bothers me... The feeling and sense of entitlement we display couple with the "lagos big girl" mentality most nigerians have. America is a leveler.. nobody cares. By the way, I got to know later that mrs b applied for medicaid that means she didn't pay her bills. Its so crazy what people do here and they cant even try back in Nigeria You over try. Anyways count it as your contribution to the good of mankind. |

Dear NL family, I am happy to announce the arrival of my LO in OakBend med.centre on Oct 22. God worked in His usual way and I only spent 2hours 30 mins in the hospital before she arrived with minimal labour pains( prayed for supernatural childbirth). Dr.Z didn't show up but another of his associates did just as the baby was about to come out. Infact I had already concluded that I would ask for refund if the nurses ended up delivering the baby. Now to the second part of the journey. Thank you to every one that has shared and continue to share experiences here. This forum juse taught me everything I know about this.God bless you all. |

oluphilip2008: Hello Nairalanders. Pls I need information about western union or moneygram. What's the minimum amount I can send? I also understand that the rates are different across banks, which banks have the most reasonable rates? Thanks for your help. Well prior to my journey, I used Western Union and Moneygram to send cash to my friend here in Houston. Used Access Bank. I under U can only do a total of 1k in a quarter or N328k.I did one in my name and another in my hubby 's name. In total I was able to send about 1880 dollars at approx at the rate of 365.5 including charges. All you need to do is fill out the form and have someone to pick cash from the other side. |

Good day Mamas and Papas, So I arrived Houston yesterday through Atlanta by Delta Airlines at 36+ weeks. No adequate leg space on board Delta (this is something to consider when chosing a flihht) but the flying time was 11.43mins from so it wasn't so tiring. At Atl POE, it was almost like a joke cos I didn't spend upto 5 mins with the officer. I even thought they are not the real CBP officials I ve read about so much here. Long story short. Interview went thus : Me:good morning (we arrived US 5.20am) Officer:morning, why are here Me:To have my baby Officer :looked shocked like its not enough reason to travel all the way. Lol. Me: Taken aback. All I crammed to say flew off my head. I even asked him what He meant by 'why'. How stupid of me! I collect myself and answered as calmly as I could. Well I had some complications with my second pregnancy and I cos am approaching 40, pregnancies tend to be more difficult. I blabbed the rest. Can't remember all. Officer : Nods his head. How much do you have in currency Me: None. Just cards of up to 11400 dollars Officer : place your fingers. Stamps till March 2017. Good luck. That was it. Went to baggage claim. Carried my bags with dryfish, knorr cubes, stockfish, ugba, pap etc. No more checks and here I am resting in my room in Houston.
A special Thank you to all of you who have amswered my questions here. You don't know how God has used you to prepare me on this journey. He alone will bless you all. Waiting for another miracle in easy labour an delivery. Thanks all. |

damsel020: PTA Hustle:
Started looking for since June all to no avail, I opened account in almost all d banks, I must confess it was frustrating.
How I got my funds.
A darling friend and mum on this thread was going on vacation, so she and hubby got $8,000 and they sold $2,000 to me at N310
Thanks to my mum too she had $4,000 in her domiciliary account and I begged her to sell to me she refused, after seeing all d whala I was going thru she begged me to come and take it sef and offcourse I got it cheap.
On my travel date got to d airport early so I can get from travelex, after checking in we got there and the claimed they ran out of funds and they were expecting but can't disclose the time the funds will get there for security reasons, I stood there since around 2 till past 5 and this money no come ooo.
But as you know the Nigeria situation, people who knows who were coming right in front of us and they were taken to d back door to give them what they claimed to have exhausted.
School for thought: They said they can sell to you with the online boarding pass, so you can as well try hustling with that a day b4 ur flight. Just check in 24hrs b4 ur flight date.
Goodluck. Thanks for this feedback. Will surely try this. Please did you by any chance know what rate they were selling? |

Jollybaby: Hello all I have been a silent reader, thanks to everyone that has contributed to this great forum,i learnt a lot here. In the spiriit of giving back:flew qatar @ 35weeks with my DH on wenesday, was sent to port health for fit to fly, told the nurses I was 34wks but they refused to give me,said they don't give 34wks that it's 30wks they give that is govt policy after much they told DH he should write an undertaking in case of any eventuality which he did before they finally gave us but wrote 33wks. Got PTA from stanbic @350 and travelex @356. It was God all d way. Got to doha n was sent to meet a US rep:he asked wat we were going to d US for ,told him for childbirth/vacation,asked if we metioned dat during our interview we said no,but we later notified d embassy for change of plans,he asked to see it wich we showed him,he asked for doctors correspondence we gave him(am using Dr Dama/methodist Sugarland )he asked y going to d US to have d baby n y not in naija,we said for better health care cos mother /child mortality rate is high that's why we choose d US,he said they are going to review oakbend medical group cos most people tend to use them, after which he gave us our passport, waited for 2hrs before we left for New York,d flight was a long one we were 2pregie on d flight the other woman develop some complication and doctor/nurse we needed to attend to her,dnt knw wat happen wen we got to New York. We used the self automated machine, our slip was marked x,it was a long queue before it got to our turn,a female CBP officer attended to us,asked how long we are saying DH told here he would be staying for 10days while I would stay for 8wks,she asked y I would be staying that long, told her we are here for vacation and childbirth, she asked me to scan my finger n snap me,hubby did d same n our passport was stamped, checked the stamp and it was just B2 that was on the stamp, went back to meet her but she told us that it covers for the six month, that there is no problem.we were sent to agric cos I carried fish and some spices, our bags was rescaned nothing was seize, collected our luggage and went to chat up our flight with jetblue to houston.it was God all d way chilling at d hotel but would be using precious cedar,my appointment is next week. God bless and favour to all those coming behind Congrats on your successful experience. Review Oakbend? Hope this wont affect some of us that have planned to use the hospital this year? Oluwa in control! |

XX01: The person I asked in FBN said that CBN just sold dollars and they missed it. That they will take part in the next one and will sell PTA in select branches.
It's funny that all these banks say they are not selling PTA but they show PTA sales in their published FX utilization schedule. Begs the question who are they selling PTA to. Mostly staff. |
