Christianity Etc › Those Attacking Me Now Kept Quiet When El-rufai Tweeted Hate Speech - Suleiman by BeeBeeOoh(op): 5:30pm On Jan 26, 2017
The founder of Omega Fire Ministry, Apostle Johnson Suleman, has wondered why the Department of State Security Service, DSS, attempted to arrest him over his alleged ‘hate speech.’

He said Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai had tweeted a hate speech and no one arrested him.

Recall that apostle Suleman had allegedly asked his members to kill any Fulani herdsman they find around his church premises.

Following his comment, the DSS attempted to arrest him in the early hours of Wednesday but Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, foiled the attempt.

As the attempted arrest continues to spark up controversies across the country, the apostle went into Twitter archives and dug out a ‘hate speech’ by El-Rufai and wondered why he was not arrested.

On his Twitter handle @APOSTLESULEMAN, he shared a screen grab of the tweet by El-Rufai on July 15, 2012.

El-Rufai had tweeted: “We will write this for all to read. Anyone, soldier or not that kills the Fulani takes a loan repayable one day no matter how long it takes.”

But the Apostle tweeted: “It’s not a religious issue but one against crime. I have Fulani friends and dey hate d killings by these herdsmen and support self defence.

“Every xtian should stay calm and not comment like those who av no understandn of d issues.pple believe wat they tink is rite.i love u all.

“You won’t open ur eyes and watch someone kill u. Don’t go for them but if dey come around u to kill u,defend urself..that’s my stand.

“He posted that and notin happened..those talking now kept quiet..many countless hate speeches by many..I simply said dfend urslf.check tape.”

Politics › N166bn Contract Mess: Senate Probes Works Ministry, BPP Over Contract Inflation. by BeeBeeOoh(op): 3:50pm On Jan 26, 2017
The Nigerian Senate has resolved to investigate alleged irregularities in the award of contracts by the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing and the Bureau of Public Procurement, BPP.

Following a motion by Dino Melaye, APC-Kogi, the legislative body on Thursday asked its committee on public procurement to scrutinize the contracts awarded by the ministry after improper approval by the BPP.

In the lead presentation, Mr. Melaye said the BPP irregularly revised its approval of the contracts awarded under the ministry headed by Babatunde Fashola.

Mr. Melaye said after conveying its approval of the contracts in line with the laws, the BPP in a second letter changed the list of the contractors to ones not recommended by the ministry and inflated the costs.

“The BPP got a letter from the Federal Ministry of Works, Power and Housing for the award of two batches of contracts”, Mr. Melaye said when the matter was first brought up on Wednesday.

“The first is the award of the construction and rehabilitation of 10 roads and bridges under the 2016 Budget in November, 2016. The second batch is the award of the construction of bridges and roads – 13 of them – in the 2016 Budget.

“The ministry sent a letter to the BPP, asking that 10 companies, which had undergone its (the ministry’s) internal due process and technical qualification, be issued Certificate of No Objection for the award of the contracts.

“The BPP, after its diligence, wrote its first report, giving the ministry the nod. But somehow, a second letter came from the BPP, indicating ‘Revised Due Process Review.’ This is now a review of the first one.
“What caught my attention is that while the first was in compliance with what the ministry recommended, in the second letter, they (BPP) completely changed the list of the contractors.

“Not that the contractors were just changed, figures also varied. In the first batch of 10, a contract was given to new contractors, who were not assessed by the ministry.
After awarding the contracts to them, the initial contract awarded for the Muman-Jalingo Road in Adamawa State, was given to a new contractor at N12.8bn as against N11bn that was recommended by the ministry.

“Another contractor was also given a new contract against the recommendation of N10bn; the contract was now awarded at N14bn.”
When deliberation on the matter resumed on Thursday, Mr. Melaye asked the Senate to note that the BPP contravened the Public Procurement Act and directly awarded over-inflated contracts to companies not recommended by the ministry.

PREMIUM TIMES had on Wednesday reported Mr. Fashola as requesting for approval of contracts worth N166 billion despite rejection of the contracts by the BPP over violations of the Procurement Procurement Act.

Politics › Governors Are Not Meeting Over Buhari's Health - Lai Mohammed by BeeBeeOoh(op): 2:41pm On Jan 26, 2017
The Federal Government has denied reports that governors are meeting in Abuja on Thursday to send emissaries to see President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, stated the position on Thursday in Abuja when he received a delegation of the Presidential Committee on the North-East Initiative.

He said, “I want to say categorically and emphatically that there is no iota of truth in this. Governors are not meeting in Abuja because there is no need for it. There is no plan to send emissary to London to see the President.

“Again, I want to say that the president is hale and hearty in London where he is observing his 10-day vacation. Let us all shun the negative reports insinuating the president illness and death.

“We implore those behind this outright falsehood to desist. It is because Nigeria exists that they can practice their profession. We implore them to stop overheating the society.’’

The minister told the delegation that his ministry is very passionate about the North-East and has put the region’s concerns and developmental agenda in the front burner of its activities.

He explained that until Nigeria took possession of the insurgency war in the region, full rehabilitation, reconstruction and resettlement would not take place.

According to him, the country is winning the war against terror and there is need to celebrate the military that is prosecuting the war.

“We are also aware there is bigger war to be won which is healing the wounds that have been created by the insurgency.

“The ministry is particular about ensuring that correct information about the North East is disseminated,’’ he said.

The minister said that the PCNI had a tall mandate but expressed confidence in the leader and members of the committee to deliver.

He said his ministry was ready to assist the committee in any way, particularly in information dissemination.

The leader of the delegation and Chairman PCNEI Economic sub-Committee, Mr. Yusuf Yakubu said the committee was committed to restoring stability to the North East through sustainable socio-economic activities.

In achieving this, he said the committee harmonised all intervention planning for the region into a national strategic road map tagged “The Buhari Plan’’.

Yakubu solicited partnership with the ministry in mobilisation and changing negative narratives on the Northeast region.

PCNI was inaugurated by the president under the leadership of Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (retd) on October 26, 2016 with three-year mandate to guide, coordinate, facilitate and support all interventions and relief activities across the North East.

Politics › Nigeria, Three Other Countries May Face Famine In 2017 - Report by BeeBeeOoh(op):
Due to persistent conflict, severe drought and economic instability, Nigeria and three other countries face a credible risk of famine in 2017, a report has said.

In a report released Wednesday, the Famine Early Warning System Network, FEWS NET, an agency supported by the United States Agency for International Development, USAID, said the Boko Haram crisis continues to contribute to large scale population displacement, limit market activity, and restrict normal livelihoods.

The agency disclosed further that the combined magnitude, severity, and geographic scope of anticipated emergency food assistance needs during 2017 is unprecedented in recent decades, adding that an estimate of 70 million people across 45 countries will require emergency food assistance this year.

“Food insecurity during 2017 will be driven primarily by three factors. Most importantly, persistent conflict is disrupting livelihoods, limiting trade, and restricting humanitarian access across many regions, including the Lake Chad Basin, the Central African Republic, Sudan, South Sudan, the Great Lakes Region, Somalia, Yemen, Ukraine, Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan,” the report stated.

“A second important driver is drought, especially those driven by the 2015/16 El Nino and the 2016/17 La Nina. In Southern Africa and the Horn of Africa, significantly below-average rainfall has sharply reduced crop harvests and severely limited the availability of water and pasture for livestock. In Central Asia, snowfall to date has also been below average, potentially limiting the water available for irrigated agriculture during 2017.

“Finally, economic instability, related to conflict, a decline in foreign reserves due to low global commodity prices, and associated currency depreciation have contributed to very high staple food prices in Nigeria, Malawi, Mozambique, South Sudan, and Yemen.”

According to the report, given the reduced capacity to cope and the possibility that additional shocks will occur, Nigeria and three other countries face a credible risk of Famine (IPC Phase 5). The three other countries are Somalia, South Sudan, and Yemen.

In addition to the sheer size of the food insecure population, the report stated that a persistent lack of access to adequate food and income over the past three years has left households in the worst-affected countries with little ability to manage future shocks.

In north-east Nigeria, the region most affected by the Boko Haram crisis, the reports says evidence suggests that famine occurred in 2016 and could be ongoing.
The report however noted that in order to save lives, continued efforts to resolve conflict and improve humanitarian access are essential.

It added that in addition, given the scale of anticipated need, donors and implementing partners should allocate available financial and human resources to those areas where the most severe food insecurity is likely.

The report comes two months after the presidency warned Nigerians of a likelihood of famine of the excess export of Nigerian grains is not checked.

‎”Huge demand for our grains in the global market is creating an excellent environment for the mindless export of Nigerian food across our borders and unless this is curtailed, Nigerian markets will be bereft of grains by January next year,” presidential spokesperson Garba Shehu‎ said in November.

He said the Ministry of Agriculture advised the president to call the attention of all Nigerians to the issue which, if not addressed promptly, could lead to a shortage of grains in the country.

Politics › Tinubu Criticizes Buhari's Economic Policies, Says I Won't Ignore The Truth.. by BeeBeeOoh(op): 9:00am On Jan 26, 2017
National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has urged the Federal Government to get Nigeria out of recession by urgently reviewing its monetary policies.

Tinubu spoke on Wednesday as a guest lecturer at the National Defence College Course 25, titled, “Strategic Leadership: My Political Experiences.”

He argued that Nigeria’s current inflation rate of 18 per cent was unbearable and that Nigerians were suffering for it.

He said, “In the situation we face, deficit spending is essential to bolster aggregate demand and direct funds to projects that build infrastructure and bolster employment. We must better harmonise monetary policy with fiscal policy. It undercuts our goals if monetary policy is unduly tight at a time when fiscal policy begets deficit spending.

“We must also realign trade policy with our need to create a meaningful industrial base and more potent agricultural sector. We can no longer allow cheap imports to preclude the development of industries and sectors strategic to our enduring economic future.

“What am I doing if I have a billion, and you are ready to give me 180 million, that is 18 per cent upfront, do I have to work or do anything again? These are the factors they have to look at quickly to ease the monetary policy.

“You have to stimulate this economy, you have to spend yourself out of this recession and you cannot do that by consistently stifling the banks of liquidity. It is their money; it is their saving. We have to criticise ourselves when it is necessary, speak truth to power.

“We are the power, we speak truth to ourselves. The monetary policy must be consistent with the environmental need of our domestic requirements, you cannot hold on too much or too tight to a policy.”

Tinubu added that the leadership of the APC was right to criticise the Federal Government, because “when it is necessary, speak truth to the power, we are the power, we will talk the truth to ourselves.”

“Our fiscal policy does not mesh with monetary policy. Trade policy undermines industrial policy, thus the ease of doing business is inhibited. Overseas peacekeeping missions do not always harmonise with core foreign policy interests. A nation in progress seeks to minimise, not harvest additional contradictions, otherwise its leadership strategy is doomed to fail.

“Strategic objectives during this period of economic uncertainty must be to re-engineer the economy bottom up, diversify the economic base, strengthen our industrial base, modernise infrastructure, enhance agriculture, and provide employment and of course, ease of doing business,” he added.
