Compliment of the season to all NL famz!

I'm going for an interview this week. I've had one denial on 5th Dec, so i re-applied.
I have prepared a mock interview and i want the gurus in the house to help me out, because i don't want to make any mistake this time.

VO: Purpose of visit
Me: to study and earn Masters in Computer science at Texas southern University.

VO: This is your second visit here, what's new you have come with?
Me: I did not get the opportunity to express myself very well as a genuine student at the first interview, so i have come to express myself better.

VO:Why study in US?
Me: American universities run a well organize academic and research programs. Their curriculum is up to date. Degree in America is believed to be the best in the work and the certificate from American university is valued globally.

VO: Which school are you going to?
Me: Texas Southern University. (TSU)

VO: How many school did you applied to?
Me: 3 -- Texas southern University (TSU), Houston Baptist University(HBU) and University of Houston (UH), main campus

VO: How many gave you admission
Me: 2. TSU and HBU

VO: Why TSU over HBU?
Me: TSU is one of the largest historical black universities that provide academic and research program that addresses critical issues in the global community, They provide additional studies for students toward advanced learning. They also provide American Conversation Partners that help in the learning process.

VO: How did you know about TSU.
Me: The first time i heard about TSU is through a friend who is an alumni, during my search to know more about the school and other schools, i found out that i belong to the same research group with the present HOD of computer science at TSU on linkedin. She made me realize that there is a research going on, and its in my area of interest. (On E-Learning and game model)

VO: What is your study plan?
Me: My study plan in earning MSC Computer science is to excel in the 30 credit hour courses that is required for the program, that is spread over two years (24 month). There are 12 credit hours compulsory courses, 12 credit hour electives and 6 credit hours thesis research.

VO: What will this course do for you?
Me: It will give me the opportunity to compete for higher position at my place of work and give me necessary skill to build Learning Management Platforms for various eLearning programs. I will also be equiped with the necessary skill to gamify eLearning, making it more interesting and interactive, which has not been implemented on the various Learning Management Systems we have access to in Nigeria.

VO: Did you take any standard exam?
Me: Yes. GRE - V&Q 286, AWA3.0

VO: What do you plan to do after your Masters?
Me: After my degree, i will be coming back to Nigeria to compete for managerial position at my present company, because the company has just been given the approval by NUC to start an Open Distance Learning centre, so my skill (as eLearning consultant) will be highly needed when i come back to the company. I will be a force for positive change in eLearning industry in Nigeria and the global community.

Vo: Why is your family not going with you?
Me: My wife works with the federal government at the ministry of Agriculture, we don't want her to loose the appointment, since i will be coming back after my Master which is for 24 month.

VO: Who is sponsoring your education in US?
Me: My brother and also with my personal savings.

VO: What does he do?
Me: He's an-------, has a construction company in 3 States in Nigeria, has a School and a Pure water company.

Note: All information here are the real truth and there are proofs to back them up.
I expect your constructive criticism, scrutiny and corrections.
Thank you all.

VISA APPROVED THIS MORNING 7:30
TRANSCRIPT

I passed her my passport, I-20 and semis receipt before she even asked

VO: Thank you, good morning
ME: Goodmorning
VO: where are you going in the US?
ME: I'm going to Texas Tech University, Lubbock Texas for my MS degree in food science
VO: how many schools did you apply to and name them
ME: 4; Texas tech, Utah State, Purdue and Penn State
VO: How many admits?
ME: Two. Utah and Texas
VO: so why did you chose Texas Tech over Utah State?
ME: Texas tech offers a special concentration on food safety and HACCP systems and I will be working with Prof xyz on the use of genomics and to study the epidemiology of food pathogens blah blah blah
VO: (stops typing and looks at me) wait, did you not apply to food science for the four schools
ME: I did
VO: (she became serious) so explain to me why Texas Tech, because both of the schools are offering the same thing
ME: ( stammered a bit, but she already put my passport aside, so no shaking), Texas Tech has a track within the MS program where food safety and HACCP is concentrated on
VO: (Relaxes) oh I see, food safety and food science ( she types) when did you graduate
ME: september 2015
VO: what school
ME: OAU
VO: did you write the GRE and what did you score
ME: Yes. 313 ( she nods and was asking herself "what else" while typing)
VO: Who is paying for this?

VO: (smiling) I'll be approving your visa blah blah, pick it up blah, take your I-20 to the POE, have a nice trip blah blah blah

i'm just grateful to God and this thread. Best of luck to you all. Just know about your school and don't cram, because the questions can be flexible and tricky. If you can pass your IT and project defense in Uni, you can do this too. The whole convo was about 4 minutes but it felt like days. grin grin grin
. God bless

Congratulations!

Hi guys, my f1 visa interview was yesterday at 6:30am and it was approved miraculously. I was interviewed by a fresh looking friendly dude and was first on his counter. Me walking towards his counter with so much confidence but very scared inside of me.

ME: Good Morning (with a soft smile) and stretching my passport towards the space unconsciously without waiting for him to ask.
VO: Good Morning (looking so serious), receives my passport and asks for my i-20.
ME: How are you today (soft smile trying to gather some confidence) and passing on the i-20 to him.
VO: I'm fine. Thank you (me feeling more relaxed by his response)
VO: Why MBA? (typing and typing and looking at my i-20)
ME: I believe with my current level of technicality, an MBA will bridge the gap between mere technicality and leadership and the core business thereby making me a complete and competent manager. (shocked at him asking this as a first question)
VO: Whats your work? (still typing and looking at my i-20)
ME: I'm a network engineer (a bit relaxed)
VO: Explain your work (now take a break from typing and looking straight at me)
ME: My major job role is general network administration, I also attend to customer issues remotely and on-site (me quoting all i filled in my work experience page on ds-160 and a bit relax and keeping 100% eye contact)
VO: What do you as network administration? (still looking at me)
ME: I configure routers, radios etc...(me shocked in my mind at the question)
VO: Explain a star network (typing and typing)
ME: A star network is such that there is a central hub/station bla..bla...bla...(Me sooooo shocked to be asked such a question and getting more tensed)
VO: Did you apply to other schools?
ME: Yes I applied to 2 other schools, uni of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh and uni of Bridgeport in Connecticut. (a bit relaxed again)
VO: How many admissions did you get? (typing and looking at me)
ME: I got just one admission from Lincoln University which has always been my first choice, the other 2 are yet to be decided and communicated across to me. (me gathering more confidence)
VO: Did you write a standardized test?
ME: Yes i took test of English as a foreign language (me feeling cool and confident again)
VO: What was your score?
ME: I scored an 89 (feeling so cool)
VO: What was your *fast fast talk*
ME: Sorry, can you repeat yourself? (now feeling a bit tensed)
VO: What was your score breakdown?
ME: I honestly can not remember the exact breakdown but i can only remember i had my least score in speaking which was 20. (now i felt very foolish at my answer feeling like i have failed, at this point, on the background, i could hear other VOs rejection speech, i was soooo tensed)
VO: How do you intend to pay your fees?
ME: My father {full name} is sponsoring me.
VO: What does your father do?
ME: He is the CEO of {company name}
VO: What does his company do?
ME: His company in into bla...bla..blaa (a bit confident again)
VO: What will you do when you finish your studies?
ME: I will come back to Nigeria and resume back at my current place of work (with so much confidence)
VO: What do you mean...by resuming back?
ME: I am on a study leave (confidently)
VO: Oh.....back to your current job role?
ME: No, I must have been qualified for a top job role after completion of my study in Lincoln University.
VO: What top job role will you take up at work place? (looking seriously at me)
ME: Well..i do not know. That will be left for the management to decide but I am pretty sure it will be a managerial role (a bit tensed again hearing another rejection speech on the background)
VO: What position do you wish to take up?
ME: IT manager (i had to think this out in milliseconds, feeling so uncomfortable why the questions keep coming but never lost focus of the eye contact)
VO: typing and typing and typing for maybe 30 seconds, places his hand on my passport and keeps somewhere next to him.
ME: at this point all on my mind was *white paper, white paper, whiter paper, white paper........still keeping the eye contact
VO: suddenly pulls out the white paper, checks his computer for something, circles a part of the white paper and finally makes the speech.....your visa...bla...bla...bla, you will receive a text or email when your passport is ready, pick it up from the location I have circled for you on the paper, make sure you also go with your i-20 when going for your passport.
ME: Thank you (still in shock but keeping the eye contact), receives the paper and look at it briefly feeling sooooo cool.
ME: Have a great day! (thumbs up) and walks out!

Congratulations!

There are no right or wrong answers. ...someone here last fall went with his whole family at once for the interview . The wife was working though and she wanted the F2 just for visting if needed . Shortly after or almost immediately they decided they didnt want to split the family and all went together

The F2 wife and child offcourse is not working and just been together as a family. it worked out for them as they felt financially they could afford it but might not work out for others

Except for finances, i don't think there will be any problems since the wife will be there to care for the kid. The only challenge i think could crop up is the increased cost of living. If that is covered, he is good to go. I for one wouldn't want to leave my family behind for such trip.

Thank you.

I hope you understand that my discussion is about academic success which is what makes you remain on student visa? Do you think that VOs don't consider how likely it is for a student to complete his studies before issuing a student visa? At the point you raised - finance, what would be his home tie if all of them show up at the embassy because one of the family members got admission? And how does he want to care for the family when he and his F2 family are not allowed to work as non immigrants for the duration of his studies? GA employment is just a petite job that can hardly support you in most cases.

This kind of "trip" is to come to U.S solely to study and one must achieve academic success to continue to be on status. Like I said, it's his call, he should do whatever pleases him.

Thank you all. I appreciate you. A word is enough for the wise!
