The Commissioner of Police in Ogun state, Edward Ajogun, on Tuesday paraded seven fake soldiers who were arrested in Lagos and Sagamu after their failed operation on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

FORMER Minister of Petroleum and Energy, Prof. Tamunoemi David-West, said that Nigerians should expect sharp drop by petrol price from the present N87 to about N40 per litre, saying, “the president-elect, Gen. Mohammed Buhari, will reduce the fuel pump price to N40 per litre.”

The Lagos State Special Offences Court in Ikeja on Friday sentenced 21-year-old Paul Adesanya to 21 years’ imprisonment for defrauding an American-based woman, Mrs Oluwatoyin Akinwole, of the sum of N36.7m.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission also told Justice Mojisola Dada that Adesanya posted Akinwole’s nude pictures on the social media, and thereafter reported that she committed suicide by jumping over the Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos in 2017.

The prosecuting counsel for the EFCC, Samuel Daji, said Adesanya acted contrary to sections 1(1) and 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud Act; also as sections 278 and 285 of the criminal law of Lagos State.

In her judgment on Friday, Justice Dada convicted Adesanya of the three counts filed against him by the EFCC.

The judge said she was satisfied that the prosecution proved the charges beyond reasonable doubts.

Chief Afe Babalola,the founder, Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, , has urged the federal government to barter with the striking Academic Staff Union of Universities with a view to paying their salaries and equipping public universities to make them safe for reopening.
He said private universities had expressed readiness to reopen, noting that a lot of public institutions aren't able to resume.
Babalola, who said COVID-19 has “exposed the unpreparedness of public universities within the areas of poor infrastructures, underfunding, inefficiency and corruption which ASUU had documented and published”, said although he wasn't a fan of ASUU in sight of its penchant for strike actions, the lecturers’ body was on an “understandable strike” this point .

The Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps has said no fewer than 109 persons lost their lives while 665 others sustained different injuries in various road accidents that occurred between January and August 2020 in Ogun State.
There were 527 road crashes during the period under review which involved motorcycles and motor vehicles. Out of the 109 deaths recorded during the period, 83 were males while 26 were females, 665 injured, 487 were males while 178 were females.
It was also noted that 35 persons died from motorcycle accidents while 74 persons died from motor vehicle accidents. Most of the accidents were caused by excess speeding, tyre burst, dangerous driving, non-use of seat belts, wrongful overtaking among others.

Charles Adeyinka Adisa, professor of surgery and surgical oncologist at the Abia State University Teaching Hospital, Aba, says colon cancer is that the second leading cancer affecting males in Nigeria.

Two policemen attached to former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole, were confirmed dead on Tuesday when an articulated vehicle lost control and saw the previous governor’s convoy near Oluku junction within the Ovia North-East local government Area of the Edo State.
Oshiomhole’s convoy was on its thanks to Usen to hitch the APC campaign train for the September 19 Governorship Election when the accident occurred.
This prompted the APC candidate within the forthcoming election, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, to call off his rally at Usen.
A statement signed by Oshiomhole’s media aide, Victor Oshoke, disclosed this development, adding that two other persons sustained varying degrees of injuries within the accident.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, is determined to sustain its ongoing strike action until the federal government addresses all its demands.
The President, ASUU, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, stated at the University of Port Harcourt on Saturday to elucidate the struggles of the union.
Ogunyemi said ASUU was asking the federal government to implement the 2012 universities’ needs assessment it conducted, adding that the union’s demands were genuine and within the interest of the state .
He added that it had been saddening that Nigerian university lecturers were still on an equivalent salary scale of 2009, stressing that this must be addressed before ASUU would suspend its ongoing strike.
Ogunyemi stated, “Salary issues are still there; we've not fully addressed that. It appears that some forces in government are bent making our members to suffer by withholding their salaries. But we believe that when we mapped out the problems of the Universities’ Transparency and Accountability Solution, other issues will fall in situ ."

Nigerian based in Canada, Harry Cole, has been extradited to the US for his alleged involvement in a $300 million sweepstakes racket . A sweepstake could be a race, game of chance or lottery during which the winnings comprise all the cash that has been staked.
The US Department of Justice ,said Cole, also referred to as Akintomide Bolu, was extradited to the Western District of Texas where the alleged fraud was committed with other accomplices between 2012 and 2016.
