I think it is a superb phone. I was at the launch and I have played with the phone there and in the store, before getting one for myself. TECNO won't sell as much as they sell the cheaper TECNO phones, but they will sell a lot to people who love high range and want to stand out.

I have bought one for myself and my SMILE 4G/LTE SIM works in the phone. It is a premium phone at its best and I am surprised that TECNO was able to pull this off and this makes me happy.

The introduction of the new infinix did shake uo the market a lil bit but I doubt if Tecno is loosing

Tecno Phantom is a great looking device, i assume they pegged the price at 70k based on the amount of sales they are expecting. if sales were going to top 2 million devices they would surely peg it at 45k. bit they need to make a profit hence the astronomical pricing for a brand as tecno.

On the flip side, 70k would get you a Galaxy NOTE 3. and that device has better specs than the phantom.

The note 3 has mhl, and a plethora of sensors that the phantom 5 cant phantom.

the infra red on the note 3 can be used to control your electronic devices, tv, hifi, decoder etc.

Air gestures are unknown to the phantom 5

the phantom surely ought not to have crossed the 45k - 50k threshold in my opinion, but its a great device if you arent considering the price

But unlike y'all, I wouldn't condemn the price or the brand for not meeting my expectations at price level. I would have to sell two of my current phone to buy that. My pocket no reach am. It is obviously not for me. If person buy am for me, good. If not, life continues.

I am sorry to say but all these people are just being silly with their comment. These are flagship devices, they are meant to be expensive. If you are that broke and can't afford such, there are other Tecno phones you can get for as low as 15k. The truth is that even if you rant and rant about how u can never use 70k to buy a Tecno (Because u dont have the money), people will still buy it. I saw how many people lined up to buy the Phantom 5 when it was released. Some are talking about samsung gini gini, what are the specs of that phone. People dont even understand technology and phones, they will just go and buy any phone they see and thats how they get cheated.

Why so slow? How much proof do you require? It works with Sims like Smile, spectranet, swift. Abi you don't know Smile ni? One Sim allows for 4G network (confirmed to work on PT 5) and the other allows for 3G networks like MTN, airtel, Etisalat and Co. Hian.

So earlier today on twitter, I saw a tweet that the new Phantom 5 works the 4G network effectively, because Smile (pun intended). I was shocked to see someone cut his Sim and try such. Amazeballz. Really looks like Tecno has upped their game. Doesn't look anything like a joking sturvz.

Yesterday, it occurred to me that since the new TECNO Phantom 5 flagship is both 4G/LTE and Dual SIM, it would be great to put my Smile 4G SIM in it and not have to carry a separate mifi device around with me. You see, I love to travel light. The question was whether or not the Phantom 5 supported Smile’s LTE band.

Well, you know how we get excited here at MobilityArena.com when we get an opportunity to experiment. So, I set my heart to find out.

Today, I cut my Smile SIM into microSIM size, then put it into the Phantom alongside my Glo SIM. The phone immediately recognised both SIMs and asked me to pick which SIM would serve for calls, which for SMS, and which for data. I picked Glo for the first two and Smile for the last.

Next, I went to Mobile Networks and pegged the Smile SIM to 4G Only.

Then, I setup an APN for Smile (I named it “Smile 4G”), as follows:

APN Name: internet
Password: Nil (No password needed)
Proxy : Nil (No proxy needed)
IP Version: IPv4
I then selected that APN, and thereafter turned on mobile data. *drum roll*

The 4G icon popped up in the notification bar at the top of the phone and I was connected at broadband speeds immediately. And I, Mister Mobility, lived happily ever after.

To God be the glory.
