“I might not call it ‘dream collaboration’ but by His grace, it’ll work, and already, I am talking with Drake and Don Jazzy. We would work on something very unique. My collaboration with other artistes is not a ploy to be popular, after all, I am not going to take the glory alone.

“Apart from the artistes you collaborated with, you never know what song can make you big as well. It doesn’t matter if you feature a big or up-and-coming artiste. That’s the main reason I am doing this”. He told Encomium.

According to the marketing manager of the Nelson Mandela Square, Megan Meas, a security guard intervened by ordering the woman to put on her clothes. Thankfully, she listened.

Commercial banks in Benue, on Friday, joined the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, and the Trade Union Congress,(TUC) in their ongoing strike, which commenced on July 30.

The News Agency of Nigeria, (NAN) reports that the strike was to protest the deduction of staff salaries and non-payment of three years’ transport allowances owed them.

They were also protesting against the non-implementation of the full minimum wage by the state government.

Part of the workers grievances were the non-implementation of 15 percent and two and half percent increment of their allowances and that of the pensioners in the state, respectively.

Customers were stranded at the various banks in Makurdi following the picketing of the banks by union officials.

Mr Joseph Nyitar, a customer, told NAN that he traveled from Gbajimba to withdraw his deposits and was stranded over the closure of the banks.

“I came all the way from Guma Local Government to withdraw money only to discover that the banks were all closed.

“You know the whole of Guma does not have any bank; now, I am stranded and confused, I don’t even know what to do now”, Nyitar said.

Another customer, who spoke under condition of anonymity, described the government decision to deduct staff salaries which led to the strike as “mere wickedness’’.

Some of the bank officials, who spoke under conditions of anonymity, sympathised with their customers while insisting that they were handicapped.

“There is nothing we can do; the NLC and TUC have stationed their staff in all the banks across board to ensure that we do not open.

“The only good thing for now is that our ATM’s are functioning effectively and our staff have free access into the banks; so, we will continue to service the machines as much as we can.

“It is quite unfortunate that some of our customers do not have ATM and some want to deposit huge amount of money and there is nothing we can do. We are losing a lot of money’’, they said.

The unions expressed worry over the decision of government to unilaterally deduct salaries of workers despite stiff opposition from the organised labour.

Meanwhile, the Benue Chairman of the NLC, Mr Simon Anchaver, has said that the unions would not relent in their efforts to force the government to rescind the pay cuts.

Anchaver said the state government had shown its non-chalant attitude towards the strike.

He said the union would sustain the strike by making sure that even market men and women participated.

“Bankers in the state had joined the strike today and we intend to close down every functional economic sector in the state to let the government know the seriousness of our stand’’, Anchaver said.

The state Chairman of the TUC, Ordue Tartenger, told NAN that the congress was collaborating with NLC to ensure that government reverted to the old salary structure.

“We will not retreat or surrender in this fight against what we consider as injustice against the civil servants’’, Tartenger said.

President Jonathan Appoints Suleiman Abba As Muhammed Abubakar Bows Out

President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday named an Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Suleiman Abba, the new Inspector-General of Police.

Abba, who until his appointment, was the AIG in charge of Zone 7, takes over from Muhammed Abubakar, who proceeded on statutory retirement on Thursday.

Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, who confirmed the change of guard in the police top echelon in a statement, said Abba’s appointment takes effect from Friday.

The statement read, “President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has approved the appointment of AIG Suleiman Abba as the new Inspector-General of Police.

“AIG Abba, currently the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 7, comprising Abuja, Kaduna and Niger states, replaces the incumbent Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mohammed Abubakar, who proceeds on statutory retirement today having completed 35 years in service.

“The incoming Inspector-General, a lawyer, hails from Jigawa State and is an alumnus of the Nigerian Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies.

“Positions previously held by him in the Police include Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department, FCT Command, Deputy Force Secretary and Commissioner of Police, Rivers State.

“His appointment is with effect from Friday, August 1, 2014.”

The former IGP had led Abba to a closed-door meeting with the President shortly before his appointment was made public.

In an interaction with State House correspondents after the meeting, Abubakar thanked Nigerians for their support.

He described the position of an IGP as challenging but said the experience was worth the while.
