The Arewa Youth for Peace and Security, yesterday, described the various groups endorsing President Muhammadu Buhari for 2019 Presidency as, “sycophants.”
The youth said the decision to endorse Buhari for a second term was anti-democratic, which should be dismissed by all well-meaning Nigerians.

Speaking with newsmen in Abuja, the group’s Director for Publicity, Salihu Dantata Mahmoud urged Buhari to provide a level playing field by ensuring that the All Progressives Congress (APC), conducts a primary election.
Dismissing the call for the endorsement of Buhari in 2019, Mahmoud said such action “doesn’t make democracy to strive.”
According to Mahmoud, “Democracy gives room for a level playing ground, we don’t succumb to endorsement. We think endorsement is anti-democracy. You provide a level playing ground that is why in every political party, there is room for primaries where you allow even the list candidate to participate.

“Recently, I got to know that some groups have been endorsing Baba Buhari; it is too early. This is the same mistake we made in the past administrations that brought us to where we are today.
“Just like Tinubu said recently that the Buhari he knows will not succumb to the tactics of endorsement, I think it is a game by sycophants, who are out for gains or to get some form of compensation.
“My fervent advice to Buhari is to allow primaries to hold in the APC, endorsement doesn’t make democracy to strive. Mind you, we are in third world democracy which is still nascent, which only got stable in 1999 when Obasanjo took over.

“We should not abuse it; we saw what happened in Zimbabwe where President Mugabe that had history of fighting for the independence of the country in 1980 was shown the way out by his boys in the Military, though they slapped him with one hand and made him laugh with another hand by giving him immunity from prosecution.
“In Arewa Youths for Peace and Security, we don’t give room for endorsement, we are realist. We present the record the way they are and we believe that Buhari should not succumb to the antics of some sycophants.

“We go with the position of Tinubu that there should be primaries for all party members. In our own opinion, we are not disposed to the antics of endorsement.”
Meanwhile, the Arewa Youths for Peace and Security has dismissed insinuations in some quarters that former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar is a “political prostitute” for his defections between the two major political parties in the country, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The youth said the former vice president was only exercising his fundamental human right as a Nigerian by moving between both parties.
Director for Publicity of the body, Salihu Dantata Mahmoud told newsmen that Abubakar felt he could achieve his political ambition in the PDP, the reason for his decision to dump the ruling party for his former party.
Mahmoud said the Waziri of Adamawa reserves the right to do “whatever possible, provided it’s not criminal” to attain his political ambition.

He said, “Everybody cannot be an Abraham Lincoln that would achieve both failure and success by becoming the president of the United States in one party.
“Mind you, this is Nigeria and Atiku is a Nigerian with blood running in his body. See people calling him political prostitute but I hold him in high esteem not because he was a former vice president but because he is an elder statesman of reputation.
“The fact remains that the success of this present administration can be attributed partly to the contribution of Atiku from when they lost primaries in Lagos and all came together to ensure that that APC became victorious at the 2015 elections.
“Whatever opinion anybody has against Atiku is the person just expressing their fundamental human right as Nigerian, it’s allowed.

“As a politician, you can decide that you want to belong to a party today or party tomorrow provided it would serve your interest. Atiku wants to be president and he has seen that by the present arrangement in the APC, if he remains there, he would be suppressed.
“Look at the APC setup, there are problems everywhere from local to National and is no long comfortable and that is why he chose to defect. Forget about his past antecedents, it is allowed, especially in the polity of Nigeria, I think he has seen what he wants in PDP that is why he decamped”.
“By my experience in politics, it is allowed that if your interest is not protected in the party you are today, you can decamp but what critics also need to know is that there is no straight forward language in politics. Integrity they talk about only works when you win election but during the process that make you clinch and win election, you do whatever possible, provided it’s not criminal.

“I think Atiku is entitled to his fundamental human right as a Nigerian to decamp to any party any day and time, he has observed succour in PDP and that is why he rejoined. For me as a Nigerian youth, I have a lot of respect for him and would never call him a political prostitute, sometime it’s allowed in the polity.”
On the chances of the former Vice President emerging as PDP flag bearer in 2019, Mahmoud said, “When Buhari emerged, it was not written in the books, you cannot compare Atiku to the likes of Fayose.

“Both Makarfi and Fayose cannot withstand the force of Atiku, he was the former Vice President of Nigeria, he became a governor-elect in 1999 before he was picked as Vice President and he spent eight years in that position, people like Makarfi and Fayose were governors under him, you can’t compare them.
“Makarfi and Fayose are only popular and have the majority in their states, as for Atiku he is a national figure. Nigerian electorates follow candidates and not party, in 2019, we can unveil another black horse like we did with Buhari, nobody knew he was going to make it.”

Ahead of the 2019 Presidential polls, a pro Buhari group, the All
Progressive Congress – Vanguard, (APC-V) said it has withdrawn support
for President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election, accusing him of failing to
deliver on his campaign promises to Nigerians.

The group insisted that it would be difficult for the President to win
re-election in 2019, stressing that that Buhari’s performance in office
has rendered him unfit for re-election, and urged him to give way to
another candidate from the North.
National Coordinator of APC-Vanguard, Mr. Olusegun Bamgbose, who disclosed
that his group toured many cities across the federation campaigning for
the President in 2015, added that they are already assessing presidential
aspirants and would declare support for anyone who has the capability to
unite the nation and make life more meaningful for the populace.

He lamented that Buhari’s administration has been hijacked by a cabal and
could no longer deliver on the campaign promises he made to Nigeria,
stressing that it would be difficult to sell his candidacy in 2019.
“President Muhammadu Buhari has failed Nigeria. Nigerian is now more
divided under Buhari. The President has been treating the issue of the
murderous Fulani herdsmen with kid gloves. The anti graft war is nothing
to write home about. He has failed to perform and should simply go home
and support another northerner in 2019.

The APC would lose the presidency
if they field Buhari in 2019. It is the same manner we warned the PDP not
to field Goodluck Jonathan in 2015.
“Many Nigerians who backed Buhari in 2015 have left him. On what basis
will anybody market Buhari for 2019? What are you going to tell Nigerians
to vote Buhari again for? It will be very difficult for Buhari because
Nigerians are wiser and can only tolerate the President till 2019.”

On whether his group’s decision was not based on lack of patronage from
the President, Bamgbose said,” I’m not looking for any appointment from
Buhari. Remember we toured many states with our resources campaigning for
Buhari in 2015; now, we have nothing to go back and show the people. What
we want is a better life for Nigerians and a President who will unite this
country. So far, it is obvious that Buhari has failed Nigerians.”

The Taraba State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) suffered a major setback, as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) received no fewer than 7000 members of the APC who defected to the PDP in Gassol Local Council.

Several members of the APC from Kurmi Local Council, led by the former speaker of the state House of Assembly, Simeon Inusa Dogari, had earlier left the APC for PDP.

Receiving the defected members at Mutum Biyu, headquarters of the council, the state chairman of the PDP, Victor Bala Kona said their coming back to the PDP marks the death of APC in the council and the state at large.

Kona encouraged the people to continue to support PDP saying, “There is no alternative to the party in the state. The PDP is well positioned to recapture power at the national level.”

Deputy Governor, Haruna Manu, lauded the defectors for the honour done to him by returning to the PDP assuring them that they would not have any cause to leave the party again.

He told them that as the representative of the council and as deputy governor, he has been protecting their interests, effectively hence the need for all members of the council still in the opposition party to join hands with the PDP to move the state higher.

He admonished the people, particularly the party faithful to continue to support the Governor Dahiru Ishaku administration as that according to him would pave way for the much more developed.

The defected members, led by Isa Mohammed Tobi and Musulimu Audu Harisu, said the development in the state under Governor Dahiru left them with no other option than to leave the APC for the PDP.

Youths in the South West have accused President Muhammadu Buhari of neglecting the Nigerian youths in his administration and not paying attention to their welfare.

The Youths alleged that Buhari has failed the Nigerian youths especially by not fulfilling his electoral promises for them.

The National President of the Yoruba Youths Congress (YYC) who doubles as the Chairman, Coalition of South West Youths Group, Prince Dapo Adepoju lamented that the President has pushed the Youths to the back seat.

Adepoju spoke to reporters in Akure, the Ondo State capital on Wednesday, while receiving youth leaders of tertiary institutions who came from Ghana on a courtesy visit to the group.

He said Buhari has failed to extend hands of fellowship and friendship to the Nigerian youths.

The group noted that the choice of the present Minister for youth was a wrong one as he’s far above the stipulated age to be addressed as youth.

“We contributed the largest votes, yet, we are the ones that are jobless and taken for granted, We will not accept this anymore, “He said.

Adepoju said lots of corrections can still be made to pacify the youths by providing employment for youths who are roaming around the streets.

He said youths stakeholders will consult and agree on a particular presidential candidate to support in the 2019 general election.

Adepoju said the united efforts of the Youths was the reason for the technical defeat of Nnamdi Kanu.

“We were united and we all agreed that we will not support his sentimental agitation. Had it been we gave him support, it would have been another story today.

“How many youths are in his cabinet, in fact the president has not deemed it fit to appreciate efforts of youths stakeholders in supporting him to kill the bad intentions of Nnamdi Kanu.

“Instead, people who were not part of the struggle were the ones being commended, In fact the vice President met with them who were mostly elders, This to us is not good enough.

Adepoju said the Nigerian youths have decided that only a presidential candidate irrespective of his/her political party that will give youths attention will get their support in 2019.

A former Minister of Women Affairs and aspirant for the office of Deputy National Chairman (North) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hajia Myriam Inna Ciroma, has said Nigerians will not hesitate to vote for the party in 2019 elections because of the ugly experience they have had in the hands of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The wife of the former Minister of Finance and elder statesman, Adamu Ciroma, described the defeat suffered by the party in the 2015 presidential election as a blessing in disguise.
According to her, the development has enabled Nigerians to experience life under a different political party, the APC and has given them chance to see the difference.
Speaking in an interview with THISDAY in Abuja, Ciroma said Nigerians are now urging for the PDP to return to power, adding that come 2019, the electorate who are now better informed, would vote for a PDP candidate.

Ciroma said she is seeking for the office of the Deputy National Chairman (North) at the Saturday’s national convention of the PDP so as to help reposition the party to be able to deliver good governance to Nigerians from 2019.
On how the party can get back to power, she said: “First and foremost, everybody knows that PDP is the party to beat, everybody knows that it is the party formed by Nigerians and it has more cohesion and has existing structures everywhere in Nigeria.

“We were able to be in power for the past 16 years but I can tell you very proudly that PDP has done so much for this country. Those who will say that PDP has done nothing are just playing politics.
“It was a good thing that PDP lost in that election because now, we are feeling the pinch; Nigerians are feeling the pinch. PDP is the party to beat because it is the party that is in every part of Nigeria. That was why we were in power for 16 years.
“Nigerians have seen the difference and they are saying we have seen the difference. Nigerians are saying let’s go back to the PDP. Ordinary Nigerians are asking PDP to come back,” she stated.
Going down memory lane, Inna Ciroma said: “The dream of the founding fathers, I know what they stand for; I know what they wish for Nigeria and I know when the politicians irrespective of where they come from, irrespective of their religious persuasions, politicians decided they will be in one party and the Nigerian military will be one party so that can now confront them squarely.

“When they were kicked out of office in 1984 and they were all clamped in the prisons in Kririkiri, there was no difference whether you are from the conservative or progressive party, all were politicians and so they clamped together.
“It was from there that they came up with forming a national party, accepted by everybody. That when they formed the G-34 and the group came up with a robust policy, a nationally accepted grassroots policy and that was the name of the party became the PDP and the umbrella means that it can take everybody.
“So I know the ideals and the reason why this party was formed and now we are having some challenges and I felt that knowing the history of this party and having participated in mainstreaming of this party and having also participated in governance in Nigeria I have what it takes to help reposition our party, that is the reason for my aspiration to become the national deputy chairman (North).
Asked if she wasn’t intimidated in the male-dominated world of politics, Ciroma responded: “Do I look like someone that can be intimidated? I grew up within a political movement. If I could chair a governing board in Nigeria, why not in politics?” she asked rhetorically.

Ciroma who noted that behind every successful man is his wife, vowed that with the support of her husband and elder statesman, Mallam Ciroma; the sky would be her limit.
“I am a professional politician and politics is a career I have chosen. If my husband does not have problem with that, I don’t see why someone else should be worried,” she said.
