Breaking:
The Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, met with the leadership of the striking unions on Wednesday in Abuja to discuss ending the warning strike.

The unions include the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities, NASU, and the National Association of Academic Technologists, NAAT.

Mamman told newsmen after the meeting that the Federal Government would continue to dialogue with the unions to forestall an escalation.

“We expect that it will not go beyond what it is. We have a good understanding with the unions to ensure stability in our tertiary institutions.

“We will do everything possible to maintain confidence in the unions so that the issue of the strike can be resolved,” he said.

The General Secretary of NASU, Prince Peters Adeyemi, while commending the openness of the government in ending the strike, insisted that the strike would continue until a favorable response from the government was received.

“We have been duly briefed by the government team led by the Minister of Education on the efforts that the government is making in respect of our demands.

“We have said that since this is a warning strike, these efforts should continue, and hopefully, before the end of the warning strike, something reasonable and tangible will come from the government.

“We appreciate their openness but this struggle will continue [until] as soon as we receive a positive response from the higher authorities.

“We assure the Nigerian public that the strike will be reviewed appropriately, but, for now, the strike continues while the government continues with efforts to get the desired results so that the universities will come back on stage,” he said.

Corroborating this, the President of NAAT, Comrade Ibeji Nwokoma, reiterated the decision of other unions, saying that the parties would further consult with their principals and thereafter would come back and brief the minister.

Leave them they are ignoramuses. I never get job till now. I still dey plead with my landlord to accommodate me for some time. I still have £5,500 tuition to balance and I am almost out of food stuff. Imagine that comment. Until they come here and see shege like us they won't get it. When you are in Nigeria you would think abroad is a paradise until you experience the reality here. I am almost regretting it now.

If this is truly your situation, you won't be on Nairaland

I'm sure the non-academic staff only joined the strike after 4 months. Paying them again will be double payment. They refused to join ASUU initially.

Not true. It wasn't up to 4 months after

ASUU has received 4 months of their withheld salaries while non academic received nothing.

The useless unions of non academic can now see the result of them chickening out of the strike in 2022

I stay in London and average monthly rent for a single room is at least £700 and ine will still drop a deposit of a month rent.
So, for a start, prepare at least £1400.

Pls what's the transport and feeding cost like in London. Can you give what it will take on the average for a month?

And by single room do u mean our normal self con here where I will have bathroom/toilet and kitchen to myself alone?

What did Buhari do with his 8 years in office? Looting, embezzlement, etc.

That's why most of his cronies are billionaires.

He practically left nothing in the save. Sold off Nigerian crude oil in advance.

Peter Obi? Don't be fooled by what you are told about him.

His tenure as governor of Anambra state was nothing to write home about. It was full of terror, murder, injustice, nepotism among his own people, embezzlement, fraud etc.

Atiku? grin What does he bring to the table? An immigration turned billionaire? Hmmmmm!

He is one of ghe problem of this country. Learnt his American university has been dollarized.

Imagine!! School fees are paid in dollars. The school has no local rating not to talk of global rating.

Is tbst the person to run the country? He will only come in and favor.... grin
