The Naira on Friday suffered further loss against the dollar at the parallel market as it lost one point to the U.S. currency, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
The naira exchanged at N395 to the dollar from N394 it posted on Thursday, while it traded at N505 and N442 to the Pound Sterling and the Euro, respectively.

At the Bureau De Change (BDC) segment of the market, the currency closed at N395 at the trading, while to the Pound and Euro, it exchanged at N503 and N434, respectively.
However, it strengthened at the official interbank market as it exchanged at N316.55, from N347.13 posted on Thursday.

Traders at the market expressed hope that the naira would rebound in the coming weeks as banks were ready to sell foreign exchange to BDCs in the coming weeks.

Two pipelines belonging to the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company, NPDC, were in the early hours of Friday blown up by gunmen suspected to be Niger Delta militants.

Local community sources who confirmed the development, said about two pipelines operated by the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company were blown up at about 2am.

Although no militant group has openly claimed responsibility, local community sources however said a new militant group, Niger Delta Greenland Justice Mandate, was behind the attack.

Report equally revealed that a technical team of NPDC and security officials have been deployed to the area to prevent the spread of spilled crude to other communities.

Boko Haram killed five traders in an ambush on a highway in northeast Nigeria that was recently reopened after coming under repeated attack from the Islamist group, a military source said Wednesday.

A convoy of vehicles carrying Nigerian immigration officials and a group of traders were travelling from Gamboru, on the border with Cameroon, to the city of Maiduguri when they came under fire on Monday.
"Three (immigration) officers were hit and injured in the fire exchange. The immigration men drove off towards Maiduguri, leaving the traders behind," an army officer told AFP on condition of anonymity.

The five traders had joined the official convoy thinking it would be a safer way to reach the Borno state capital than travelling the notorious road alone.
The traders' two trucks were looted and set alight, Gamboru resident Umar Ari told AFP by phone, also confirming the toll of five dead.

The Gamboru to Maiduguri highway is a strategic 140-kilometre (87-mile) trade route in the region, and provides an important link with neighbouring Cameroon.
The highway was closed for safety reasons at the height of the Boko Haram unrest some two years ago, but was reopened by the Nigerian authorities following a string of successes against the militants.

"Since the Maiduguri-Gamboru highway was reopened two months ago convoys of trucks carrying goods and other vehicles conveying traders have been coming to Gamboru under military escort without any incident," said resident Ari.
Boko Haram, which seeks to impose strict Islamic law in northern Nigeria, has been blamed for some 20,000 deaths and displacing more than 2.6 million people since 2009.

A counter-offensive spearheaded by Nigeria since January last year has recaptured swathes of territory lost to the Islamist militants in 2014.
But sporadic attacks continue and security remains a major concern in the region.

Kinsmen of former President Goodluck Jonathan have warned the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND) and the Reformed Niger Delta Avengers (RNDA) to stop the campaign of calumny against him.

The kinsmen under the aegis of Ogbia Brotherhood in a press conference addressed by its National Chairman, Chief Benson Agadaga, condemned what they described as “the dangerous trend of spurious and wild allegations against our illustrious son, Dr. Jonathan by faceless individuals and mischief makers.”

They called on security agencies to investigate and unravel those behind the economic sabotage in the Niger Delta.
Agadaga, who said it was unthinkable to link Jonathan with sponsoring an armed outfit like the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) noted: “May I add with unequivocal terms that the allegation lacks substance and does not reflect the true position of the nature and original beliefs of a prominent son of Ogbia
“Their criminal and devilish intention and propaganda to rubbish the political status of Jonathan cannot be concealed with the hypocritical excuse of non-performance and failing to develop the Niger Delta region. The Niger Delta cannot benefit anything by eliminating and frustrating Jonathan, our only national and international voice. Jonathan’s commitment to the sanctity of life is further demonstrated by the fact that throughout his tenure as governor of Bayelsa State and as president of the country, there were no reported cases of extra-judicial killings and high profile assassinations. If MEND is in existence and wants to emancipate the Niger Delta as the name implies, then surely the right way to go is not thorough sinister moves to pull down and eliminate the divinely given and anointed personalities of their own region.”

Meanwhile, a group, Coalition of Niger Deltans for Justice and Development has also condemned what it called plots to malign and frame-up Jonathan.
The group President, Ebiakpo Barle, in a statement issued in Yenagoa, said the plot to link Jonathan to the activities of Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) was wicked and dangerous.
