Jobs/VacanciesWhat Hairstyle Is Appropriate For An Interview For Men? by berildan(op): 12:43pm On Jan 30, 2015
Some persons say a low cut is appropriate, however, some people look smarter in afro or punk. What's more important the hairstyle or the overall appearance of the candidate?
EducationRe: Rough Guide Of The Best & Most Reputable Universities In The UK by berildan(m): 11:46pm On Jan 24, 2015
Sagamite:
The Quality tables.

The usefulness of quality tables is that the size of the university does not matter at all. It just looks at what proportion of the staff work submitted is of high quality.

That said, it does not take into consideration the proportion of overall staff submitted. The thing there is that participation in the assessment is not compulsory. Universities can choose which staff they want to put forward, so to manage their reputation, some of them game it and only submit a lower proportion of their overall staff.

Quality - Percentage of work that is World leading (i.e. 4*)
1. LSE 49.9%
2. Oxford 48.1%
3. Cambridge 46.8%
4. Imperial 46.4%
5. UCL 42.6 %

6. Cardiff 40.5%
7. KCL 40.2%
8. Edinburgh 37.6%

9. Warwick 36.9%
10. Bristol 36.0%

The top 5 UK universities shine through on this table. World leading shows the universities that can compete at a global stage. Manchester was in 11th position with 35.3%

Quality - Percentage of work that is World leading and Internationally excellent (i.e. 4* and 3*)
1. Imperial 90.6%
2. Cardiff 87.4%
3. LSE 87.3%
4. Oxford 87.2%
draw
4. Cambridge 87.2% draw
6. Bath 86.9%
7. Warwick 86.6%
8. QMW 86.0%
9. Sheffield 85.5%
10. KCL 85.2%

UCL was not even in the Top 20. It was in position number 21 with 82.1%. Edinburgh was 12th with 82.5%.

The Times Higher Education did a Quality table which takes into consideration the volume of staff submitted (not the proportion of staff) mixed with the percentage of 3* and 4* to get a GPA.

Quality - THE's Top 10 by GPA
1. Imperial
2. LSE
3. Oxford
4. Cambridge

5. Cardiff
6. KCL
7. UCL
draw
7. Warwick draw
9. Edinburgh
10. Bristol

When looking at the quality tables (which is independent of size) we can see that Cardiff has been the surprise package with a wonderful performance. Manchester does not do as well when its size is not considered, as it does when it is considered (like in the Research Power tables). Nottingham too. Warwick comes into the Top 10 for quality.

When size is not considered, and only quality is, the smaller universities like LSE and Imperial then shine.
Guess it is then logical to conclude that St. Andrews,Glasgow, Birmingham and Durham have no business in top 10 rankings this year?? Unbelievable angry.

see lemmie tell you some thing. all these lists started from one single person who decided to make a fake list. and with the copy-and-paste-without-confirming-the-source nature of nigerians, it just went viral. even the NUC ranking that was going on last year, was denied by the NUC that they never release yearly ranking of universities. its mostly lies spread by people who want to cause controversy. and op, this list isnt from webometrics. its from 41cu. dont get them mixed up
Sometimes you need to do some research before you start spewing stuff on threads like this. Webometrics is a method of ranking that 4icu uses. It's just coincidental that it doubles as an organization's name

4icu is not from webmetrics, webometrics is yet to release thehttp://www.4icu.org/about/ list.
webometrics.info is their site

As a matter of fact I never said the ranking was from the organization "Webometrics". I said that the ranking is based on webometrics. The word "webometrics" is used to refer to the collection of data (mostly from major search engines) used for sorting out and monitoring the activities of organizations on the Web. 4icu and "Webometrics ranking of world universities" simply use this platform for their rankings.

Here's an excerpt from 4icu's website regarding their methodology. You could check this link for more details http://www.4icu.org/about/

.................
Universities and Colleges are ranked by our exclusive 4icu.org University Web Ranking. The ranking has been published since May 2005. Since then the ranking methodology has been periodically fine-tuned in order to provide better results.

The current ranking is based upon an algorithm including five unbiased and independent web metrics extracted from three different search engines:
Google Page Rank
Alexa Traffic Rank
Majestic Seo Referring Domains
Majestic Seo Citation Flow
Majestic Seo Trust Flow
Jobs/VacanciesWhich of These Accounting/management Consulting Firms would you choose? by berildan(op): 1:52pm On Jan 22, 2015
Consider a scenario where you have received offers from Accenture, McKinsey & Company, Ernst & Young PWC, KPMG and Deloitte. Which offer would you choose?

Please try to rank the firms in order of priority and preferably state why each firm is ranked accordingly (criteria such as Salary, work environment, side benefits and job security should be used). You can use the abbreviations of the firms' names when ranking for your convenience.

NB: The input of former employees or alumni of any of these firms would be most appreciated. Also use the Lagos offices of these firms as reference.

Fellow Nairalanders, finally the wait for the first webometrics ranking of Nigerian universities is almost over as the 4ICU edition of the ranking has been released. The competition got fiercer as notable trends include Unilag ousting Unilorin, and Covenant University, which is the only private university in Top 10, coming up from 8th last year to the Top 5. OAU remained calm in 2nd place and Landmark slipped out of the list to 12th (from 5th).

It's intriguing to note that 100% of the universities in my nominee list for No. 1 spot (released 2 weeks ago) made the top 5 list. Check here for that post www.nairaland.com/2071556/nigerian-universities-likely-no.1-january

1. University of Lagos Lagos (World Rank (WR) = 1733th out of 22000 Universities Globally )
2 Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife (WR = 1865th)
3 University of Ibadan Ibadan (WR = 2655th)
4 University of Ilorin Ilorin (WR = 2709th)
5 Covenant University Ota (WR = 2798th)
6 Federal University of Technology, Minna Minna
7 University of Nigeria Nsukka
8 University of Benin Ugbowo
9 University of Port Harcourt Port Harcourt
10 Ahmadu Bello University Zaria
By the way, OP where's the source of this info?

OP, when creating threads as these, please be sure to make it explicit that it's your opinion you're expressing, and not something that is factual and proven beyond any reasonable doubt, to avoid coming off as being myopic. I won't even start to point out the very many levels on which I disagree with some of the schools you put up there, but then that's just my own opinion. Nonetheless, well done.
The OP outlines criteria used and even states a caveat. I guess that takes care of everything else.

It's obvious you really have no idea of that school's exploits in recent years. Please do me a favor and read through the headlines on their website www.covenantuniversity.edu.ng.

You should realize that just last week, two of their staff "contributed to the world with their researches" and this has been the norm for some time now.

emog17: All these people saying Madonna is this Madonna is that im sure u haven't been there before.FYI Madonna uni is the 1st private(catholic)uni Nigeria and does a lot of professional courses which some federal uni dnt evn do let alone state and other private uni and are fully accredited and have produced graduates. Madonna uni professional courses includes: medicine & surgery, pharmacy, medical laboratory science, nursing science & midwifery, optometry, public health, law, electrical/electronics engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, chemical engineering, petroleum engineering, computer engineering, accountancy, mass communication, economics etc. Now tell me how many private universities in Nigeria have these courses? I guess some of you writing nonsense about Madonna were those expelled from the prestigious Madonna university.
a good question to ask tho is 'just how well is Madonna offering these courses?' I hear that even non-teaching staff mark students' scripts.

Frankly, I'd expect to see the likes of Babcock, Afe Babalola and ABTI or AUN. However, I know Covenant rightfully deserves that spot. Being an alumni, I know the school has been doing a lot over the past few years. Its only a matter of time before they rank first in Nigeria and Africa. LOL!! (: (: smiley
