Education / How To Sharpen Your Listening Skills by Bethel80: 10:27am On Dec 03, 2018 |
Every day, we listen to speeches, commands and audio recordings. Although we listen everyday, many of us are poor listeners that is why many students fail tests while some cannot recount what they learnt from a discourse. Listening effectively is an asset all of us should have. We can sharpen our listening skills by doing the following: 1. Focus: Pay attention to the speaker and make sure you maintain eye contact with him. When a speaker makes a point, you can nod to show approval. Focus on the speaker, not on his appearance. Anticipate his next statement and find out why he would say so and if he does not say what you anticipated, find out why he did so. Pay attention to gestures and facial expressions; they show how the speaker feels about the topic. 2. Remove distraction: Remove anything that may distract you like books, and mobile devices. Others around you could be noisy, politely ask them to cease conversation. 3. Take Notes: Do not forget to take notes because they are important. It is one way we can capture thoughts. It improves your concentration level since it impels you to listen so as to capture the main points. 4. Do not interrupt a speaker, respond at an appropriate time. 5. Be open minded, do not assume you know everything. You can be a better speaker. how? find out here http://www.seamlessenglish.com/2018/11/08/speaking-how-to-be-a-better-listener |
