CrimeChildren Among 8 Killed During Attack On Christian Village by BetterHeadline(op): 3:40pm On Oct 08, 2023
Nigerian Christians continue to face ongoing persecution from Muslims.

Fulani muslims and other terrorists killed eight Christians in Nigeria’s Plateau state. They wounded five others.

SOURCE
A spokesman for the Irigwe Development Association says the militias waited until everyone was asleep before attacking. Two children were killed, which the spokesman called “the maximum act of wickedness.”

He’s urging the Nigerian government to arrest the assailants. This comes after three Christian farmers were killed in late September.

For more context, there were over 5,000 Christians killed in Nigeria in 2022. That’s more than any other country in the world.

He promised to provide more details about the incident as the investigation progresses and extended his deepest condolences to the family and friends of Kiggundu during this difficult time.
CrimeIslamic Gunmen Attack Christian Community: 6 Christians Killed by BetterHeadline(op): 3:41pm On Sep 30, 2023
The attack is coming barely five days after an attack was launched in Kaura where a Christian woman was killed and two of her children were kidnapped.

Terrorists reportedly killed six persons in the Takanai community of Atyap Chiefdom in Zango Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

SOURCE
The acting Secretary to the District Head of the Community, Samson Markus, who confirmed the incident on Wednesday, said the terrorists invaded the village at around 7pm and opened fire killing four people in the same compound while two in another family.

According to him, two children were also victims of the deadly attack, PUNCH reports.

“We were going about our normal businesses when we heard gunshots, we thought it was the military at first until we saw it was the Fulanis who came in from Zango Urban,” Markus alleged.

“Before the military arrived, they had succeeded in killing six persons, including 2 children. The arrival of the military was what scared them, and they took to their hills and left the community.

“It’s unfortunate this kind of sad incident continues to happen in our villages when we thought normalcy had returned.

“We appealed to the government and the military to redouble their efforts and declare war against these terrorists who invaded villages and killed innocent people,” Markus added.

The attack is coming barely five days after an attack was launched in Kaura where a [Christian] woman was killed and two of her children were kidnapped.

The Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, Mohammed Jalige, did not respond to calls put to him as of the time of filling this report.
CrimeIslamic Gunmen Fire At Traders: Many Women Killed by BetterHeadline(op): 3:48pm On Sep 28, 2023
Nine people were killed in a violent attack in northern Ghana near the border of Burkina Faso. There has been an uptick in Islamic extremism in the region with many claiming that Burkina Faso is one of the most dangerous places to be a Christian.

SOURCE
Ghana, however, is mostly stable with rare cases of persecution. Islamic extremists run rampant throughout the Sahel, the region of countries just north of Ghana, including jihadists who frequently cross borders into nations including Côte d’Ivoire and Togo.

As instability in Burkina Faso and the Sahel continues, the breadth of terrorism will likely increase as demonstrated by the recent incident in Ghana. Witnesses say the attackers fired into two vehicles carrying traders on their way to the market. Most of the nine victims were women.
CrimeFamily Stab 21yr Old Lady Multiple Times For Dating A Christian Man by BetterHeadline(op): 3:44pm On Sep 27, 2023
Prosecutors have dropped attempted murder charges against family members of a young Muslim woman who was held down and stabbed for dating a Christian man.

The court has previously heard that at the age of 17, the victim had an arranged marriage to her cousin.

The 21-year-old woman was stabbed at a shopping centre car park.

Six of the woman's relatives were charged with attempted murder and due to stand trial.

Prosecutors have now accepted guilty pleas to alternative, lesser charges.

SOURCE
The 21-year-old woman suffered a perforated kidney, lacerated liver and significant internal bleeding as a result of being stabbed repeatedly in the abdomen with a large kitchen knife.

Prosecutors previously alleged her family members worked together to track her down and helped to hold her down as her father stabbed her in a suburban Adelaide shopping centre car park.

The court has previously heard that at the age of 17, the victim had an arranged marriage to her cousin in northern Pakistan.

Prosecutors alleged that the young woman's family disapproved of her Christian boyfriend, who she met at university, and sought to punish her for bringing shame on the family.

The crime had previously been described in court as an attempted honour killing.

The victim's mother and father, brother, sister and brother-in law were originally charged with serious offences including attempted murder and were due to stand trial in the Supreme Court shortly.

Prosecutors have now dropped all attempted murder charges and accepted guilty pleas to alternative, lesser charges.

The victim's father pleaded guilty to an aggravated charge of causing serious harm, while the other family members pleaded guilty to a non-aggravated charge of causing harm with intent.

They also pleaded guilty to unlawful imprisonment.

Two of the victim's brothers pleaded guilty to aggravated serious criminal trespass.

Prosecutors had alleged the two men trespassed on a property and assaulted someone while trying to locate their sister, but the aggravated assault charges against the brothers have now also been dropped.

The court will hear sentencing submissions in December.

CrimeGunmen Shouting Allah Akbar Go Shooting Spree: 11 Christians Killed by BetterHeadline(op): 3:50pm On Sep 24, 2023
At least 11 Christians were killed after members of the Islamic State attacked a village in Mozambique and opened fire on Christians after hand-picking them from Muslims, the Catholic pontifical and charity foundation Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) International reported.

SOURCE
ACN indicated that the terrorists arrived in the village of Naquitengue, located in Mocímboa da Praia district of the embattled Cabo Delgado province, in the early afternoon and summoned the villagers.

After separating the Christians from the Muslims, “based on names” to identify them, “they opened fire on the Christians,” the report stated.

The charity foundation has gathered accounts of those affected by the violence in the Mozambican district and said: “The reports are disturbing.”

Those who spoke to ACN recounted that Christians were “showered with bullets” in the incident.

“There are also records of burned houses and destroyed property,” ACN reported. “Hours later, on Sunday, the terrorist organization Islamic State claimed this attack, reporting 11 deaths, although the number of victims is expected to be higher, at least 12, with several injured.”

The Catholic entity further reported that the attack, which it described as “of enormous cruelty,” caused panic among the populations, who fled to the forests.

Friar Boaventura, a missionary from the Institute of the Fraternity of the Poor of Jesus (PJC) present in Cabo Delgado, confirmed to ACN the terrorists’ strategy to isolate Christians from others before executing them, noting that it was not the first time such an incident had happened in Cabo Delgado.

“This strategy has already happened in the past,” he said, adding that terrorists had already carried out attacks “with this same scenario” — that is, to “separate Christians from Muslims.”

The missionary told ACN that the Sept. 15 incident had left the population scared, adding that the attack occurred at a time when many people were beginning to return to their homelands.

Friar Boaventura lamented that “new moments of tension and insecurity” had engulfed the population and asked “that we pray for our brothers who suffer so much.”

The crisis in northern Mozambique, which erupted in 2017, is mostly concentrated in Cabo Delgado province but has also spread to neighboring provinces, such as Nampula and Niassa.

Here, armed men belonging to the Islamic State, locally referred to as Al Shabaab, continue to attack civilians. As of April, the violent conflict had displaced more than 1 million people.

Fulani herdsmen attacked a village in Nasarawa state, Nigeria, killing one Civilians and wounding three others, an area resident said.

SOURCE
The herdsmen attacked Kola village, Akwanga County, at about 10 a.m., killing Amos Vonne Wakayi and wounding the Rev. Thomas Wakayi, a Baptist pastor, along with Victor Yakubu and Sunday Wakayi, said Nathaniel Lauji.

“The injured victims are currently being treated at Our Lady of Apostles (OLA) Hospital, Akwanga, a Catholic health facility,” Lauji told Morning Star News in a text message.

The attack forced Christians to flee from Kola and the villages of Angre, Tabu, Nganche and Bohar, he said.

Other areas of Nasarawa came under attack earlier this year. Herdsmen on May 19 attacked the predominantly Christian community of Takalafiya, Karu County, where a 44 Christians were killed.

On May 13, Fulani militia attacked Tattara Mada and Ngah Barau villages in Kokona County, as people were conducting a mass burial of 11 Christians killed in these communities April 16-18, said area resident Denz Bartholomew Zarme.

“Of this number, seven Christians were from Tattara Mada, and four other Christians were from Ngah Barau,” Zarme said. “The pain of the brutal attacks and the sorrow it caused was evident at the memorial service, with bereaved families and friends of those killed weeping uncontrollably.”

The burial followed a memorial service at the mortuary of the Catholic Church’s health facility in Garaku.

“Cattle herders are forcefully evicting farmers from villages by initiating deadly attacks in some areas in Kokona and part of Karu Local Government Areas (LGAs), leaving hundreds of people homeless and floating in abject poverty,” Zarme said.

CrimePastor Sentenced To 10 Years Imprisonment For Rejecting Islam by BetterHeadline(op): 3:49pm On Sep 21, 2023
Iranian-Armenian pastor handed himself in to prison in Tehran to begin a 10-year sentence for engaging in “propaganda contrary to and disturbing to the holy religion of Islam”.

SOURCE
Anooshavan Avedian, who is 61 years old, was sentenced more than a year ago, but had not been summoned to serve his sentence until he was visited last week by two plainclothes officers from the Ministry of Intelligence.

This visit took place last Wednesday, the same day that another Iranian-Armenian pastor, Joseph Shahbazian, was released from Evin Prison.

That very same day, Anooshavan was told that the time had come for him to begin his own 10-year jail term.

Article18’s director, Mansour Borji, said the timing of Anooshavan’s summons showed that “the general policy of the Iranian government towards Christians has not changed”.

“Although we have seen a number of Christians released this year,” he said, “the fact that somebody has now gone to prison on the same charges or for the same activities for which others have been pardoned or released, or had their sentences reduced, shows the arbitrary nature of the judicial system in Iran.”

Mr Borji added that it was not clear why Anooshavan’s summons had taken so long, but that “the human effect of this long wait cannot be underestimated”.

“While people appreciate enjoying as much time as possible with their family and loved ones, the constant threat of imprisonment hovering over your head is in itself a kind of torture,” he said.

Anooshavan was first arrested more than three years ago during a raid on his home, and was eventually charged and sentenced alongside two Christian converts, Abbas Soori and Maryam Mohammadi, who were handed non-custodial sentences.

In addition to Anooshavan’s 10-year prison term, he also faces 10 years’ “deprivation of social rights” after his release.

All three Christians applied for a retrial with the Supreme Court, but their applications were rejected.
CrimeGunmen Shouting Allah Akbar Go On Shooting Spree: 15 Civilians Killed by BetterHeadline(op):
Muslim Fulani herdsmen on Friday (Sept. 15) killed 15 Civilians in southern Kaduna state, Nigeria, sources said.

Besides taking 15 lives, the muslims also kidnapped 32 Civilians from Dogon Noma village, area residents said.

SOURCE
The attack on Dogon Noma village, Kajuru County came amid disclosure that such attacks have led to the death of 23 pastors and the closure of 200 worship buildings in Kaduna state in the past four years.

Besides taking 15 lives, the assailants also kidnapped 32 Christians from Dogon Noma village, area residents said.

“Fulani herdsmen surrounded the village in their hundreds, shooting anybody in sight; the attack occurred at about 7 a.m.,” David Musa told Morning Star News in a text message. “Pray for Dogon Noma community.”

Moses Ishaya said he lost two relatives in the massacre.

“It is with a heavy heart that I notify you about an attack on our community, Dogon Noma village, by Fulani herdsmen on the morning of Friday,” Ishaya told Morning Star News in a text message. “The attack has resulted in the killing of two of my family members, who include our sister from Karamai village, who got married at Dogon Noma village, and the second victim, the daughter of my relation, Mr. John Zango.”

He identified other Christians killed as Bala Laya and Gimbiya Coaster. Among others kidnapped, he named three abducted as Set Alkali, Saviour Christopher and Sico Nicholas.

Ernest Maidawa, a youth leader in the area, urged government officials to urgently take action.

“We are saddened with these renewed acts of attacks and gruesome killings of innocent Christians in Dogon Noma community by Fulani herdsmen,” Maidawa told Morning Star News in a text message. “We are urging law enforcement agencies as a matter of urgency to check the spate of these attacks on innocent Christians in our communities. Governments both at state and federal levels in Nigeria must also be seen to be doing more as they have not shown capacity in their core mandate and responsibilities to protect lives and properties.”

On Tuesday (Sept. 12), Christian leaders in Kaduna state met with police officials in the city of Kaduna and advised them that attacks by armed Muslim Fulani herdsmen and other terrorists have resulted in the killing of 23 pastors, the abduction of 215 Christians still in captivity and the closure of 200 church worship buildings in four years.

The Rev. Joseph Hayab, chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), and Christian leaders from 23 Local Government Areas told Kaduna State Commissioner of Police Musa Garba and other senior officers that Christians have faced fierce persecution.

The meeting between Christian leaders and police officials was held at Albraka Baptist Church in the city of Kaduna. The purpose of the meeting was to strengthen the relationship between the police and Christian leaders, and for police to listen to their challenges and together find solutions, Garba said.

“Security is the responsibility of all and not only that of the government,” Garba told the Christian leaders. “While the government takes the lead in the protection of lives and property, individuals are also expected to play their parts, particularly in the area of providing information.”

Muslim extremists on beat a 33-year-old evangelist to death for leading Muslims to faith in Christ at an event in eastern Uganda, sources said.

We heard people talking from both sides of the road at a nearby bush saying, ‘They are the ones who converted our members today – they are not supposed to live, but to be killed.

SOURCE
After the evangelistic event in Kituuti town, Philip Bere was pulled from his bicycle while returning to Katiryo, Kibuku District and killed when the assailants bashed him with a large rock, an eyewitness said.

Mudenya Sirasi, who had assisted Bere at the evangelistic event, was with him as the two neared Katiryo on the Kataka-Katiryo road. Sirasi said many people accepted Christ at the event, including Muslim women and two young Muslim men.
The two evangelists were ambushed at about 7:40 p.m., he said.

“We heard people talking from both sides of the road at a nearby bush saying, ‘They are the ones who converted our members today – they are not supposed to live, but to be killed,’” Sirasi told Morning Star News. “From nowhere, one man who was stationed in front of us grabbed our bicycle that we were riding on and hit Bere with a blunt object on his back.”

Bere fell as Sirasi jumped off the bike and entered a tunnel under a bridge, where he hid, he said.
“I could see the attackers brutally injuring my friend,” Sirasi said. “One of the attackers hit him with a big stone, and he bled to death.”

When the assailants left, Sirasi found the body of Bere in a pool of blood, he said. He alerted other area Christians and police, and officers took the body to a hospital for postmortem, Sirasi said.

The pastor of Bere’s church, unnamed for security reasons, said officers at the police station in Katiryo, Kibukuand took statements about the killing of the evangelist and that they were searching for the killers, who have gone into hiding.

“Our evangelist was killed because his passion for preaching the good news of Jesus Christ, especially to Muslims,” the pastor told Morning Star News.
Bere was well-known for his preaching among Muslims in Buseeta, Lwatama, Katiryo and other parts in eastern Uganda.

CrimeMosque-goers Fight Each Other Inside Mosque, Many Hospitalised by BetterHeadline(op): 4:08pm On Sep 05, 2023
Muslim leaders have condemned Friday’s brawl at Nairobi’s Jamia mosque over front row space during prayers which left an unknown number of worshipers hospitalized from injuries.

SOURCE
The leadership of Jamia Mosque confirmed the incident, reporting that certain worshipers involved in the scuffle were subsequently taken into police custody.

The confrontation escalated into physical altercations among congregants.

Former Mandera Senator Billow Kerrow, a committee member of the mosque, said the brawl saw the destruction of some mosque equipment including cameras.

“Yesterday (evening) we witnessed a terrible incident of violence in this mosque (Jamia)...,” Kerrow said.

The Jamia executive committee member said that the incident casts the mosque in a bad light and advised worshippers against resorting to violence.

He emphasized that anyone who feels aggrieved should seek peaceful dispute resolution mechanisms, including reporting issues to the mosque’s leadership for appropriate action.

Going forward, the mosque warned that anyone who engages in violence in the mosque and within its premises will be arrested.

Kerrow reiterated no individual will be permitted to address the congregation without prior consent from the mosque’s leadership.

To prevent the repeat of a similar incident, Kerrow said that they had instructed the mosque security not to allow worshippers to place their prayer mat on the front row except the one allowed by the mosque including that of the imams presiding over the prayers...
CrimeKidnapping And Killing Of Christians Escalate Under Tinubu's APC by BetterHeadline(op): 3:58pm On Sep 05, 2023
More than 1,000 Christians in Nigeria were killed during attacks by Islamic extremists in 2023. Boko Haram, Fulani militants, and other islamic groups kidnapped and killed Christians for not paying ransom.

SOURCE
Community leaders blamed Fulani muslim militants for kidnapping and destroying farm produce before harvest, and Christian religious leaders addressed the atrocities in Christian communities as persecution, but the Nigerian government addressed the terrorists as bandits.

In Plateau State, more than 400 Christians were killed by Fulani muslim militants in Mangu, Barkin Ladi, and Riyom local government this year.

In northern Nigeria, Fulani militants kidnapped seven Christians. A witness told ICC that the captors took the hostages at gunpoint from a restaurant in Bauchi State on the evening of Aug. 21. These terrorists are demanding a ransom of $2,600 USD (N2 million), which is an immense sum for a struggling rural family from Bassa in Plateau State. Their livelihoods have already been devastated by terrorists in their hometowns.

Even a short walk for food is a perilous journey due to the constant threat of attacks. Many Christian villages in the region have fallen under the control of these Fulani terrorists, and sadly, the residents cannot find safety even in their supposed places of refuge.

Five of those kidnapped were released on Aug. 23 and rushed to the hospital, while the militants killed two for not paying ransom. The militants told the hostages they were raising funds through kidnapping to attack more Christian communities.

The National Leader of the Irigwe Chiefdom in Plateau says Christians are persecuted, but the Nigerian government remains silent, allowing persecuted Christians to be under the mercy of terrorists.

CrimeFamily Threatens To Kill 18yr Old Christian Lady For Leaving Islam by BetterHeadline(op): 3:39pm On Aug 29, 2023
A court in northern Nigeria has granted a court order protecting an 18-year-old Christian convert from threats to her life by family members, a ruling that emphasizes the fundamental right to change religion, in this case, from Islam to Christianity.

SOURCE
Mary Olowe, not her real name, faced death threats from her father and brothers after converting to Christianity. Her mother helped her escape to safety in a Christian community before seeking legal protection through a restraining order.

According to the human rights group ADF International, a high court in Nigeria granted an order of perpetual injunction against her father and brothers.

"[T]he defendants are hereby restrained from threat and attempt on the life of the applicant following her decision to change from the practice of Islam to Christianity and also not to breach her fundamental rights as to the choice of her religion or thoughts," the order states.

No appeals were filed against the order.

"We are relieved that Mary has found protection from these credible threats and that the court recognized her fundamental right to convert from Islam to Christianity," ADF International Legal Counsel Sean Nelson said in a statement. "This is an important decision that we pray will help others facing threats to their lives only because they came to believe in Christ."

"No person should be persecuted, harassed, or threatened with death for their faith nor for converting from one faith to another," Nelson added. "Christian converts from Islam in Nigeria are often denied the ability to freely live out their faith because of targeted threats and attacks against them, even from their family members."

Olowe's case comes after a 25-year-old Christian student was beaten to death last year by her Muslim classmates in Nigeria's northwestern Sokoto state.

College student Deborah Emmanuel Yakubu was stoned to death in Sokoto, Nigeria, on May 12, 2022.

Deborah Emmanuel, a member of the Evangelical Church Winning All and a student at the Shehu Shagari College of Education, was killed in May 2022 after classmates claimed a WhatsApp message she sent to a classmate during an argument was blasphemous.

A Christian woman named Rhoda Ya'u Jatau was arrested in Bauchi state in May 2022 and was held incommunicado for more than four months on blasphemy charges for sharing a post on WhatsApp condemning Emmanuel's killing, Morning Star News reported at the time.

Saudi border guards have killed at least hundreds of Ethiopian [muslim] migrants and asylum seekers who tried to cross the Yemen-Saudi border between, Human Rights Watch said in a report released today. If committed as part of a Saudi government policy to murder migrants, these killings, which appear to continue, would be a crime against humanity.

VIDEO SOURCE
The 73-page report, “‘They Fired on Us Like Rain’: Saudi Arabian Mass Killings of Ethiopian Migrants at the Yemen-Saudi Border,” found that Saudi border guards have used explosive weapons to kill many migrants and shot other migrants at close range, including many women and children, in a widespread and systematic pattern of attacks. In some instances, Saudi border guards asked migrants what limb to shoot, and then shot them at close range. Saudi border guards also fired explosive weapons at migrants who were attempting to flee back to Yemen.

“Saudi officials are killing hundreds of migrants and asylum seekers in this remote border area out of view of the rest of the world,” said Nadia Hardman, and migrant rights researcher at Human Rights Watch. “Spending billions buying up professional golf, football clubs, and major entertainment events to improve the Saudi image should not deflect attention from these horrendous crimes.”

Human Rights Watch interviewed 42 people, including 38 Ethiopian migrants and asylum seekers who tried to cross the Yemen-Saudi border between March 2022 and June 2023, and 4 relatives or friends of those who tried to cross during that period. Human Rights Watch analyzed over 350 videos and photographs posted to social media or gathered from other sources, and several hundred square kilometers of satellite imagery.

Human Rights Watch wrote to the Saudi and Houthi authorities. The Houthi authorities replied to our letter on August 19, 2023.

Approximately 750,000 Ethiopians live and work in Saudi Arabia. While many migrate for economic reasons, a number have fled because of serious human rights abuses in Ethiopia, including during the recent, brutal armed conflict in the north.

While Human Rights Watch has documented killings of migrants at the border with Yemen and Saudi Arabia since 2014 , the killings appear to be a deliberate escalation in both the number and manner of targeted killings.

Migrants and asylum seekers said they crossed the Gulf of Aden in unseaworthy vessels, Yemeni smugglers then took them to Saada governorate, currently under the control of the Houthi armed group, on the Saudi border.

Many said Houthi forces worked with smugglers and would extort them or transfer them to what migrants described as detention centers, where people were abused until they could pay an “exit fee.”

Migrants in groups of up to 200 people would regularly try to cross the border into Saudi Arabia, often making multiple attempts after Saudi border guards pushed them back. Migrants said that their groups had more women than men and unaccompanied children. Human Rights Watch has identified Saudi border guard posts from satellite images that are consistent with these accounts.

Human Rights Watch also identified what appears to be a Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle positioned from October 10, 2021, to December 31, 2022, at one of the Saudi border guard posts. The vehicle appeared to have a heavy machine gun mounted in a turret on its roof.

People traveling in groups described being attacked by mortar projectiles and other explosive weapons from the direction of Saudi border guards once they had crossed the border. Those interviewed described 28 incidents with Saudi border guards using explosive weapons. Survivors said the Saudis sometimes held them in detention facilities, in some cases for months.

All described scenes of horror: women, men, and children’s bodies strewn across the mountainous landscape severely injured, already dead and dismembered. “First I was eating with people and then they were dying,” said one person. “There are some people who you cannot identify because their bodies are thrown everywhere. Some people were torn in half.”

A Human Rights Watch digital investigation of videos posted to social media or sent directly to Human Rights Watch and verified and geolocated show dead and wounded migrants on the trails, in camps, and in medical facilities. Geospatial analysis revealed growing burial sites near the migrant camps and expanding border security infrastructure.

Members of the Independent Forensic Expert Group of the International Rehabilitation Council for Torture Victims, an international group of prominent forensic experts, analyzed verified videos and photographs showing injured or dead migrants to determine the causes of their wounds. They concluded that some injuries exhibited “clear patterns consistent with the explosion of munitions with capacity to produce heat and fragmentation,” while others have “characteristics consistent with gunshot wounds” and, in one instance, “burns are visible.”

People traveling in smaller groups or on their own said once they crossed the Yemen-Saudi border that Saudi border guards carrying rifles shot at them. People also described guards beating them with rocks and metal bars. Fourteen interviewees witnessed or were themselves wounded in shooting incidents at close range. Six were targeted both by explosive weapons and by shootings.

Some said Saudi border guards would descend from their border guard posts and beat survivors. A 17-year-old boy said border guards forced him and other survivors to rape two girl survivors after the guards had executed another migrant who refused to rape another survivor.

Saudi Arabia should immediately and urgently revoke any policy, whether explicit or de facto, to use lethal force on migrants and asylum seekers, including targeting them with explosive weapons and close-range shootings. The government should investigate and appropriately discipline or prosecute security personnel responsible for unlawful killings, wounding, and torture at the Yemen border.

Concerned governments should publicly call for Saudi Arabia to end any such policy and press for accountability. In the interim, concerned governments should impose sanctions on Saudi and Houthi officials credibly implicated in ongoing violations at the border.

A UN-backed investigation should be established to assess abuses against migrants and whether killings amount to crimes against humanity.

“Saudi border guards knew or should have known they were firing on unarmed civilians,” Hardman said. “If there is no justice for what appear to be serious crimes against Ethiopian migrants and asylum seekers, it will only fuel further killings and abuses.”
