Hi Bellerin, TCF is looking good, can you pls share the resources? Would like to check them out...Merci Bellerin: ICYMI:
The TCF results takes 15 days to be released. (Compare that to 4 - 6 weeks of nail biting for TEF)
There are far more resources to prepare with. (Can point you in the right direction wink wink)
The exam is reputed to be easier - many thanks to the CIEP who also administers DELF/DALF.
You can take it while waiting for the "transfer ban" from TEF (2 month gap between consecutive attempts) |

Hello house, how's everyone doing? It's been awhile and how's the French journey going? Mine has been very tedious o especially writing and listening but I keep at it. So just saw today's draw was 470 & it put the fear of God in me but we go pass by God's grace. Please i need a study buddy/buddies that plan to write the exams by September/October? Cos I noticed i'm somewhat relaxed even with my tutor. I live in Lagos by the way even better if you stay around the egbeda axis. However, ikeja is an option also. Please anyone interested should respond...let's say i'm on A2/B1 sha |

Merci njbybrthnly: Malheureusement there's no Alliance Francaise in Benin (City). I don't know any French tutor currently in Benin, but you could go to UNIBEN to ask any of the lecturers in the French department if they can recommend any |

Bonjour à tous! Can anyone recommend a french tutor in Benin or confirm if Alliance Français located there? Merci |

@NJ, congratulations!!!! It's like watching a movie from start to finish. God is truly faithful. Thank God for perfecting it all to finish....your journey is a motivation. njbybrthnly: Hi guys. I hope we're all progressing along steadily in our studies for the French exam. I have a few words that may encourage us even more:
I HAVE GOTTEN PPR!!!!!!!!!!!! AOR: December 14, 2018 PPR: February 20, 2019
I remember when my TEF results came out, hubby always used to say that our app processing time will be very short because Canada is looking for bilingual people . I just used to nod in agreement but it's like IRCC decided to prove him right o.
That aside though, I give God all the glory. He has come through for me in a very specific way (honestly I feel like before now He had left me in the care of His angels and then sometime last year, He singled me out and decided to place His hand on my head...blessings upandan, left, right and centre) and I didn't even need to beg and cry. First, with the TEF (which I did as a trial run not knowing He had other plans), and now this, PPR in 9 weeks 5 days post-AOR, with loads of other blessings inbetween. Words can't express how grateful I feel right now.
So, in case you're looking for something extra to motivate you, let's test my oga's theory which states that, EE applications with good IELTS and additional points from TEF/TCF results have a very short processing time
Who knows? Hubby might be on to something . Let's keep at it guys, you could be next.
I'm so overwhelmed that my head is even paining me |

BootyliciousHon: Am not a bro o!!! Am a babe. Lol I started in April 2018. First ever french exam. Before April I only knew my primary school french. Honestly I didn't take listening very seriously ( listening to french audio and all that. More like i didn't have time for it) but now I will actively listen. For speaking I could have done better...I think i had exam fright plus I had no idea I wouldn't be given time to prepare. Now i have to do more verbal communication in French ( yeah I speak French mostly in my head )
Am sad I have to retake the exam but now I know I will go in much better than I did in November.
For others waiting for your result...I wish you success.
Je reste positif! congratulations on your result, you did really good. Your next attempt will be the final with excellent results by God's grace |

Bellerin: Greetings Francophiles,
Great job you're all doing!
The best way to learn French gender is to learn it together with the word. E.g. la table. Don't let this slow you down however. Starting with grammar isn't the best way to begin your French journey. Even native speakers get these wrong!
Beginning by learning grammar rules and conjugation tables may end up frustrating you. If you're interested in self study, start with Michel Thomas French and be amazed how much French you learn in days/weeks. IMHO, the Michel Thomas method is the best way to introduce yourself to a language. Try it and see. Hi, I have seen quite a few posts about Michel Thimas, how do I gain access to his resource? |

Mamaroon: FRENCH TUTORIAL 1
(NJ, Etrange, Bellerin, Mariah, Ayboye, oya follow me for back...)
English a or an is equivalent to French un (m) or une (f)
English the is equivalent to French le (m) or la (f)
Every french word is either feminine or masculine
A boy - un garçon A girl - une fille A pen - un stylo A ruler - un regle The table - la table The bed - le lit
You tube and Google has all these....guys....but let us start somewhere abi? Thank you, just wondering how to differentiate the masculine from feminine. It's quite confusing. |

njbybrthnly: I had secondary school French prior to the 6 months prep. For your prep, I suggest you start with building your vocabulary and working on grammar, while listening to French audio at the same time (I think the listening part is the most important). It's very possible to develop a solid A1 within your timeline...you only need to put in a lot of work.
Let me also add this: don't be afraid of reading in French, I've found that a few people I've chatted with get discouraged when they study books written solely in french. To overcome this, all you need is a French dictionary (paper or online) - I prefer paper dictionaries (not pocket dictionaries o - they are too limited)and the online Collins dictionary because they give other possible translations of a word or phrase with examples. Google translate is ok but it gets unreliable when you want to translate longer phrases - I will only recommend it to more advanced learners who can identify the incorrect translations.
Hope this helps. Feel free to ask for more clarification if anything is still unclear. Thanks a bunch for taking the time to respond. Grammar & Vocabulary is what i'm working on now though a bit tricky with all the rules especially differentiating the masculine & feminine gender article but I guess I will get the hang of it soon enough. RFI has been downloaded to help with the audio aspect. Will definitely keep intouch in case i get stuck. God bless you! |

njbybrthnly: You're right...I for one would be willing to help but I wouldn't know where (or even how) to start. First off, I'm not very confident of my French outside the scope of the exam. Again, I also feel many of us are still learning French from scratch, to get a general understanding of the language, hence, don't yet know the specific areas to focus more attention on.
I agree though that the task of passing this exam is not as daunting as it appears so I'm game if you are as you senior me for this French waka Quick question pls, reading through your post about your Tef journey, did you have prior knowledge of french before your 6 months prep? |

I agree though that the task of passing this exam is not as daunting as it appears so I'm game if you are as you senior me for this French waka this is a very great idea and I understand where you're coming from with your explanations. However, you would be amazed at your competence with the language once you begin to tutor; speaking to those that have written the exams that is (everyone of your results have been amazing). Your wealth of knowledge will go a long way in pushing us the newbies past the awkward beginning. For instance, I have all of the resources shared on this platform but have been struggling to study on my own not knowing where to start or pattern to follow. I have more than enough time on my hands right now and would appreciate a guide on attaining a solid A1 before mid January assuming it's possible (before I dash AF all my money). |

Hi, thanks for your.suggestion but time won't permit me to do that cos i have other commitments here. (quote author=rs172 post=73818343]
If you don't mind, you can go to Cotonou to learn it, it will be better that way, i also went there although i finished at the A2 level, because i have to do my mandatory 1yr Nysc which I'm doing now, the name of the school is CEBELAE .
I hope it helps?[/quote] |

Hello, this thread has really encouraged my decision to learn French and eventually write the TEF exam. Thank you all for the resources shared and the insights given. God bless you all!
I plan to begin learning in January(starting from scratch as I have no knowledge except the mumbo jumbo taught in high school) and would appreciate if anyone can please recommend a private tutor(AF is an option but quite expensive), i reside on the Lagos mainland.
Congratulations and Goodluck to all that have aced the test and those waiting on their results respectively. Hope to hear from you. Merci |
