Qaqa, known for granting interviews and issuing statements on behalf of the group, was reportedly arrested in Kaduna by the SSS, early on Wednesday. "Abu Qaqa" speaks

However, speaking with journalists from an unknown location on Thursday, a man who claimed he was Qada said the militant arrested was one Abu Dardaa.

“The person that was arrested was Abu Dardaa and not Abu-Qaqa. I am Abul Qaqa, the spokesman for the Jama’atu Ahlis Sunnati Lidda’awati Wal Jihad. Abu Dardaa is the head of the Lagina (Dept) of public enlightenment and not the spokesman,” the man said.

So the FG is still planning on negotiating with this terrorist group? Na wa ooo

Southern Nigerians could take up arms to fight northern Boko Haram Islamists, and are holding back only out of respect for the president, a former militant leader from the oil-rich Niger Delta said on Monday. Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, a Muslim who led a rebellion in the delta until a peace deal with the government in 2004, said bomb attacks by Boko Haram could provoke retaliation by mostly Christian southerners, including those living in the delta. President Goodluck Jonathan has already declared a state of emergency in parts of the north which Boko Haram targeted in Christmas Day bomb attacks, including one against a church near Abuja that killed 37 people.

The attacks, and their spread from the north into other parts of the country, have raised the prospect of sectarian and regional violence escalating in a country about evenly divided between mainly southern Christians and mainly northern Muslims.

Asked if northerners could be targeted by some from the majority Christian south, he replied: "It is seconds away , Nigeria is on the precipice of a civil war."

"For Niger Delta people to take up arms is just a minute away. It's just Goodluck that is holding us back," said Asari, who is from Jonathan's southern, mainly Christian Ijaw tribe, but who converted to Islam.

"We have all reached the extreme. There is nothing anybody can do about it except we fight."

Asari's former group, the Niger Delta People's Volunteer Force, managed to push oil prices to record highs in 2004 with its constant attacks and threats against oil production in the delta's swampy creeks.

Since then, peace deals with the region's warlords have pacified the delta, and Boko Haram in the north has become the number one threat to Nigeria's security.

Full-bearded, shaven-headed, and wearing an ash-coloured Islamic robe, Asari paused to read some Facebook posts from his iPad about the Christmas Day bombs.

Asari said he was sceptical that the government could negotiate with moderate members of Boko Haram via "back channels" as National Security Adviser General Owoye Andrew Azazi suggested in an interview with Reuters.

Sitting in his large flat in the southeastern city of Port Harcourt, Asari said the group's faceless nature, an issue General Azazi acknowledged, made talks impossible.

"If you cannot identify the people who are carrying out these attacks, how can you dialogue with them, interact with them, and bring them round the table?" he said.

In any case, such extreme violence meant the time for talks had passed, he said.

"You cannot ask government to negotiate now. On what basis? The government should, rein these people in, or the people will resort to self-help," said Asari, who stressed where his loyalties lay despite being a Muslim.

"Anybody that wants to start any revolution in Goodluck's time, we the Ijaw will pull down that revolution," he said.

Politics / 'liberty Is Free, But It Is A Personal Decision' by bibiking1(m): 3:23pm On Dec 19, 2011
I was having a conversation with my brother a few days back on how his NYSC orientation camp went, and in attempting to make comparisons with my own orientation camp found out that the regular ‘endurance trek’ was cancelled nationwide due to ‘security reasons’. That same day I read online that the annual concert, Star Mega Jam, was cancelled because of ‘security threat’ in the country; as the American artistes billed to perform at the show all pulled out having been advised against coming into Nigeria.

Remember that due to the threat of Boko Haram, several key events in the country had been cancelled or secretly and hastily conducted as it was with the Independence Day celebration. We have become slaves and servants to terrorists, they now hold our liberty. The picture is getting grimmer and surprisingly we are not responding, slowly we watch as the country drift into anarchy.

Last week I read of the anti Boko-Haram rally embarked upon by the pan-Yoruba outfit, O’dua People’s Congress (OPC) in Lagos, where they held motorists and pedestrians hostage for several hours and quite captivatingly so with their errant gun-shooting and frightening display of hooliganism. Combined with similar pronouncements earlier made by sectional militant youth groups from the volatile Niger-Delta region and the Eastern part of Nigeria, one cannot help but see the wide chasms that are beginning to deepen their trenches along ethno-religious lines in the country.

The constitution is mocked by the de-facto legality given to these militia groups by regional governments and the police force. Hundreds of firearms-bearing, charm-wearing yobbos make a pride-walk for hours along a major road in the commercial capital of the country and no one is arrested! No one is even declared wanted, all because they are looked upon as regional crime-fighters.

This is certainly making insignificant the constitution that prescribes the sole role of internal crime fighting to the Nigerian security agencies.

Regional uprisings are carried out with impunity now, and the police force that is entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring the safety of our lives are spellbound and baffled as to how to combat the menace. There ineptitude in the face of the aggravated national insecurity has given boldness to bank-robbers, who have taken siege of the south-west region. They now operate without fear, and unlike Hollywood, they are never in a hurry. We are left to fend for ourselves, we are brought back to the basics of society, and our liberty is under threat and the only way to save ourselves from becoming everlasting-servants of political/tribal/regional oppression is eternal vigilance.

It is not politically-polite for me to continually lay all the blame on an ineffective, docile and visibly overwhelmed government at the centre, I would rather focus on the bewilderingly nonchalant response from the people in the face of arguably the most turbulent period since the end of military rule in the country.

Even past leaders who contributed to the current sorry-sate of the country are predicting and warning their friends of impending revolts, not because they want it to happen, but because they are well aware that we are in dire straits and only one possible outcome can occur.

Our reticence and nonchalance to the obvious bad governance we are experiencing is evidence of our failure to protect our freedom; it is as though we have embraced wholeheartedly enslavement. Almost all the attributes of a Hobbesian State are manifest in Nigeria; the view from outside is terrifying, we are perceived as a people certain to self-destruct. The members of Boko Haram are our brothers and friends, they are not ghosts. The members of MEND, OPC, Egbesu, Bakassi Boys and other self-seeking, illegally-armed militia groups are not ghosts, we know them. We hide them. We pretend to love them even when we know what they do is kill and destroy. We compromise our liberty.

These are desperate times and we require desperate measures. We must bring them forth. Personally, I refuse to compromise on my liberty.

One of the fathers of American Independence, Patrick Henry, screamed out to the heavens during that turbulent period of crisis in the USA, “Give me liberty or give me death”.

We are at that moment now when we need to scream out and reclaim our liberty. You deserve to sleep with both your eyes shut. You deserve to move freely within the country of your birth, you deserve to work in any state within the federation without fear of discrimination, you deserve to have control over who governs you, you deserve better than what you have now, you deserve Liberty. But very much like salvation, it is personal; no one can force you to be free.

Embattled Governor of Plateau State, Jonah Jang, yesterday had an important meeting with Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan, and stated that he will work with the President to bring peace to Jos, but he is not God to end the eleven years crisis.

Jang, who was in Aso Rock for over four hours was visibly angry as he managed to take few questions from State House Correspondents, when he was approached for comment on the outcome of his talks with the President.

He also described as a normal and routine military exercise the presidential directive to the Chief of Defence Staff, Air Marshal Oluseyi Pentirin to take over the security in Plateau state as normal, since the military taskforce was already on the ground in the state.

He added that nothing was wrong with the directive for CDS to take full charge of security in the state saying “it is normal and the CDS is usually in charge of situations where military task forces such as the one in Plateau State are operational”. He then expressed confidence in the CDS to discharge the president’s directive.

Jonah Jang's interview with reporters;

Reporter: How was your meeting with the President

Jang: My coming here is routine and I briefed him, I have given him my report on Plateau state. It was very cordial ,and everything is well.

Reporter: Don’t you think the presidential directive was a subtle way of imposing the state of emergency?

Jang: Well, go and read your constitution. I am not God to end Jos crisis.

Reporter: Was it not an indication that you have failed?

Jang: Already the task force has been under the command of the president, therefore it is not an indication that the security has been taken over from the state. We hope to end the crisis.

Reporter: People are saying that the crisis is out of control.

Jang: Is Plateau the only place that has security problem? Security situation is all over the country, so why are you so particular about Plateau state.

Politics / Not Only Jonathan Is Confused About The Wikileaks Reports! by bibiking1(m): 4:48pm On Sep 13, 2011

PRIME Minister Morgan Tsvangirai yesterday revealed that President Robert Mugabe had confided in him in the aftermath of the WikiLeaks cables that revealed that Zanu PF members were revealing party secrets to US embassy officials.
Addressing the party's 12th anniversary celebrations at Gwanzura Stadium, Tsvangirai said Mugabe had come to him stunned by the revelations

made in cables released by the whistleblower website more than a week ago.

"Who could have thought we could sit with Zanu PF and Mugabe?" Tsvangirai asked. "Now Mugabe comes to me saying, look our people are running to the Americans."
The cables revealed shocking details of the power struggle within Zanu PF and how party members had clandestinely met with US embassy officials.

The cables allege that Vice- President Joice Mujuru, her late husband Solomon and central bank governor, Gideon Gono were the principal high-ranking government officials to confide in the US envoys.
"Jonathan Moyo said we were sell outs and should be arrested, now who has sold out the most?" the premier asked.
However, Tsvangirai did not touch on the cables that fingered his party's members who allegedly said him and his office were weak and indecisive.

Politics / Re: Rebels Fight Gadhafi Forces Over Libyan Oil Port by bibiking1(m): 3:27pm On Mar 02, 2011
It is embarrassingly annoying that this ought to be a debatable issue, i would have thought that after the shame and ignominy of the Iraqi invasion we as free people in a free world would stand against any form of tyranny by the western imperialists.
We have a man Ghadhafi who has been so loved by his people hitherto, a man who has been admired for his ability to make proper economic framework and maintain a firm political position that has seen his country gain reverence amongst the committee of nations. Why then is he suddenly regarded as a villain?
Let us even wave away these earlier statements into the gutters and assume that this was the most villainous being ever, is it in America's position to come take out the ruler of a free country? Are they now responsible for installing governments around the world, and also dictating the style of leadership that a country should adopt? Is that not the highest form of subjugation?
If the west is suddenly so bothered about long staying governments it should without delay abolish all monarchies that still exists today in Europe, of course starting with Queen Elizabeth and her horde!
When will the west stop this act of unnecessary bullying? and when will the stooge in Africa resist the urge to always jerk when the west sneezes?
I am sorry for Africa really
