PoliticsSenate Screening: Take A Bow And Go? by bidell1(op): 5:41pm On Jul 04, 2011
Senate Screening: Take a bow and gohuh

As I write this piece, 14 Ministerial nominees have so far been confirmed by the Nigerian Senate. The remainder is still being expected. Perhaps, they are still undergoing the security clearance by the SSS. I have said it over and over again, Nigeria as a country is one big JOKE. How else can one explain the energy-wasting exercise carried out by these security operatives when no matter what happens, all nominated ministers will still be confirmed.

It is only in this country that the senate will waste prime time on live TV to perform a charade and call it screening. Of what use is a screening exercise when no questions are asked or the nominees grilled? The most annoying aspect of this utter rubbish is the “take a bow and go” aspect of the whole exercise.
We have seen situations in this country where certain individuals who cannot recite the National Anthem are confirmed as Ministers or people who cannot tell the capital of Taraba state are made Ambassadors. These are simple current affairs that my four year old Niece knows like the back of her hand. Such persons should be disgraced out of the hallowed chambers and even persecuted for wasting the time of the senate and bringing shame and disrepute to their families.

Now, to the matter of the day. If you watched the last sham called “screening exercise”, the name Zainab Maina would ring a bell. A lady in her 60's from Adamawa state who could hardly speak passable English. In fact, she made Patience Jonathan look like an erudite scholar. The rockets she was throwing got so bad that the senators started shouting for her to stop. But the lady was so enthusiastic about presenting her CV that had nothing but her political activities on it and kept going on and on.

The Senate President had to stop her and asked her to “take a bow and go”. The whole senate roared yes! So our wonderful honourable ministerial nominee took a bow and left without answering a single question.

Even if this madam is the founder of Nigeria, what qualifies her to be made a Minister? And to think she will be heading the Ministry of Women affairs is even disheartening. This is the time for all Nigerian women to come together and speak against this great injustice. In all honesty, this clown cannot represent the women of this country.

NSE: Why Okereke-Onyiuke was removed , SEC DG
By Peter Egwuatu on AUGUST 14, 2010

The Securities and Exchange Commission, SEC, says Professor Ndi Okereke-Onyiuke was dropped as Director General of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) in the interest of the common investors.
irector General of SEC, Ms. Arunma Oteh said on NTA Weekend that the Commission intervened as a result of the crisis going at the Exchange with a view to protecting the investors and preventing the market from further damage.

“The SEC has a responsibility to protect the investing public. We are really concerned with the ordinary investor who had no big money to invest and diversify their portfolios. So it is our duty to protect the market. We had watched the scenario going at the Exchange and did not want to interfere but when it became obvious and in order not to allow the market to fail we had to stepped in”, she said.

“ The Investments and Securities Act (ISA) 2007 vests the unalloyed responsibility for safeguarding the interest of the public and protecting the investor on the Securities and Exchange Commission. The Commission has closely followed the developments in the NSE, particularly with respect to inadequate oversight of the Exchange, ongoing litigations, allegations of financial mismanagement, governance challenges, and the inordinate delays in the implementation of the succession plan for the Exchange.

In following the developments, the Commission has, at all times, carefully deliberated on the implications and ramifications of a direct intervention in the affairs of the Exchange. In this deliberation, the Commission weighed the consequences on the market of a direct intervention set against the broader goal of safeguarding the interest of the public and protecting the investor”.

Asked why it took long for the Commission to act, Oteh said, “ The Commission had previously asked the NSE to develop and implement a credible and transparent succession plan and while the NSE had made significant progress, it had unfortunately not completed the process by the deadline of 31st of July approved by the Commission despite an extension of the deadline. A key element of this succession plan was the selection and appointment of a New Chief Executive Officer (Director General) for the Exchange.

In the process prescribed by the Commission, the Exchange, through a credible and transparent process was to source candidates through open advertisement, conduct a screening process and assessment center, conduct panel interviews, and send the three topmost candidate to the Commission for screening. Only after they have been screened and cleared by the Commission, could the Exchange go ahead and extend an offer to the selected candidate.

We don’t just interfere when we have no cause to do so. It was extremely exigent for us to come in at this point in time to protect the common investors and the market in general”.

On the allegations of insolvency of the NSE by te former president of the Stock Exchange, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, the NSE D-G said the Commission might not be able to determine the the veracity of the allegations because the NSE “has not yet, as statutorily required, submitted its audited financial statements for the year 2009. A formal investigation will therefore serve to shed some light on the situation”.

PoliticsRe: Osama Bin Ladin Is Not Dead(says Son) by bidell1(f): 11:52am On May 12, 2011
humebuloe:
One of Osama’s sons, Omar, 30, has reacted to the killing of his father, Osama bin Laden, saying his father was not killed by the US, in the Navy Seals raid in Pakistan.

This is the first time any member of Osama’s immediate family will respond to the death of their father.

In a statement, Omar said the US violated international law by the alleged killing of OBL in his home.

Omar bin Laden

Below is the statement:

Statement from the family of Sheikh Osama bin Laden

I Omar Ossama Binladin and my brothers the lawful children and heirs of the Ossama Binladin (OBL) have noted wide coverage of the news of the death of our father, but we are not convinced on the available evidence in the absence of dead body, photographs, and video evidence that our natural father is dead. Therefore, with this press statement, we seek such conclusive evidence to believe the stories published in relation to 2 May 2011 operation Geronimo as declared by the President of United States Barrack Hussein Obama in his speech that he authorized the said operation and killing of OBL and later confirmed his death.

If OBL has been killed in that operation as President of United States has claimed then we are just in questioning as per media reports that why an unarmed man was not arrested and tried in a court of law so that truth is revealed to the people of the world. If he has been summarily executed then, we question the propriety of such assassination where not only international law has been blatantly violated but USA has set a very different example whereby right to have a fair trial, and presumption of innocence until proven guilty by a court of law has been sacrificed on which western society is built and is standing when a trial of OBL was possible for any wrongdoing as that of Iraqi President Sadam Hussein and Serbian President Slobodan Miloševic’. We maintain that arbitrary killing is not a solution to political problems and crime’s adjudication as Justice must be seen to be done.

It is also unworthy of the special forces to shoot unarmed female family members of Binladen killing a female and that of one of his son.

Most importantly, when it is a common knowledge that OBL’s family is residing at one place outside KSA, why they were not contacted to receive his dead body. His sudden and un witnessed burial at sea has deprived the family of performing religious rights of a Muslim man.

Finally, now that the operation is concluded we wish the Government of Pakistan to release and hand over all minors of the family and all the family members are reunited at one place and are repatriated to their country of origin, especially female members of the family to avoid further oppression and we seek international support to that effect.

Without agreeing to the ways of OBL as to how he professed, believed and operated, We Omar Ossama Binladin, and my brothers, the lawful children of the Ossama Binladin (OBL) herewith demand an inquiry under UNO to reach to the accuracy of the facts as stated by United States into the fundamental question as to why our father was not arrested and tried but summarily executed without a court of law. We are putting these questions to the United Nations, OIC, President of United States that a necessary evidence is presented to the family in private and or public to make us believe what they claim, and all the remaining family members are repatriated and united after necessary initial investigation.

In making this statement, we want to remind the world that Omar Ossam Binladin, the fourth-born son of our father, always disagreed with our father regarding any violence and always sent messages to our father, that he must change his ways and that no civilians should be attacked under any circumstances. Despite the difficulty of publicly disagreeing with our father, he never hesitated to condemn any violent attacks made by anyone, and expressed sorrow for the victims of any and all attacks. As he condemned our father, we now condemn the president of the United States for ordering the execution of unarmed men and women.

Failure to answer these questions will force us to go to International forum for justice such as International Criminal Court and International Court of Justice and UN must take notice of the violation of international law and assist us to have answers for which we are lawful in seeking them. A panel of eminent British and international lawyers is being constituted and a necessary action may be taken if no answers are furnished within 30 days of this statement.

PoliticsRe: Cute Osama's Son Who Never Supported His Father by bidell1(f): 4:54pm On May 11, 2011
sherrify:
WASHINGTON - The sons of Osama bin Laden broke their silence Tuesday, denouncing his "arbitrary killing" and saying the whole family felt demeaned and humiliated by the father's burial at sea.

In a statement given to the New York Times, the sons asked why their father "was not arrested and tried in a court of law so that the truth is revealed to the people of the world."

Bin Laden was killed by US forces on May 2 after being tracked down to a Pakistani compound where he is believed to have lived for years, despite a massive global hunt for the architect of the September 11, 2001 attacks.

The statement denouncing his father's killing is said to have been prepared at the direction of his son, Omar bin Laden, 30, and also called for the Al-Qaeda leader's three wives and children to be released.

"We maintain that arbitrary killing is not a solution to political problems," the statement said, adding that "justice must be seen to be done."

It also called into question "the propriety of such assassination where not only international law has been blatantly violated."

Pakistani officials have said three of bin Laden's wives were recovered from the house in Abbottabad after the raid, all of them Yemeni or Saudi, and 13 of their children.

His Yemeni wife, Amal Ahmed Abdulfattah, was shot in the leg during the US Navy SEALs operation in which her husband died.

Omar bin Laden, who the Times said was the son of bin Laden and another wife, Najwa bin Laden, condemned the shooting in the statement, which did not name any of his brothers.

"We want to remind the world that Omar bin Laden, the fourth-born son of our father, always disagreed with our father regarding any violence and always sent messages to our father, that he must change his ways and that no civilians should be attacked under any circumstances," the statement said.

"Despite the difficulty of publicly disagreeing with our father, he never hesitated to condemn any violent attacks made by anyone, and expressed sorrow for the victims of any and all attacks."

The statement was given to the New York Times by American author by Jean Sasson, who helped Omar bin Laden write a 2009 memoir, "Growing Up bin Laden."

A shorter, slightly different statement was posted on a jihadist Web site Tuesday in which the sons said bin Laden's burial at sea "demeaned and humiliated" his family.

"It is unacceptable -- humanely and religiously -- to dispose of a person with such importance and status among his people, by throwing his body into the sea in that way, which demeans and humiliates his family and his supporters and which challenges religious provisions and feelings of hundreds of millions of Muslims," the shorter statement, provided by the SITE monitoring group, said.

US President Barack Obama was "legally responsible" for "a criminal mission" which "obliterated an entire defenseless family , contrary to the most basic human sentiment, and they rushed to dispose of the body," it added.

The United States has said it expects Pakistan will soon let it question the three widows. But the exact whereabouts of the bin Laden family has been unclear since the September 11, 2001 attacks.
Na God go punish una, Triedhuh for which courthuh and then taxpayers money will be used to feed and take care of the beast during the trial?

MEMO TO MR PRESIDENT

REPOSITIONING THE PEOPLES DEMOCRATIC PARTY (PDP) IN IMO STATE

PREAMBLE
I think I need not bore Your Excellency with details of the conduct and outcome of the just concluded governorship election in Imo state, since that is already well known to the President.

What I think I ought to restate is my commitment to ensuring a lasting legacy of peace and true democracy in Imo. I have already demonstrated this by quickly moving in to douse the political temperature in the state by accepting the result of the election as it is and announcing that I will not go to court.

The decision not to challenge the election in court is simply predicated on my avowal that the good people of Imo state should be saved the trauma of passing through another spate of court litigation that characterized my tenure. Differently put, I believe that I would, by this decision, save my successor the problem of facing the type of detractions I faced during my tenure.

As I prepare to leave office, I do so completely satisfied that I was, in spite of promptings from sundry quarters to do otherwise, able to allow a level play ground throughout the period of the electioneering campaign and the election proper. Apart from that this was in keeping with Mr President’s personal commitment to the growth of true democratic culture, I am certain that I have laid a good foundation for the growth of orderly democratic practice in Imo state. For example, my people in Imo state now know that it is possible to conduct party primaries that are devoid of intervention by the sitting governor.

THE PEOPLES DEMOCRATIC PARTY (PDP) IN IMO STATE
In the time being, however, what I consider my immediate preoccupation is to take immediate steps to galvanize and reposition our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party, in Imo state.

With the outcome of the election, there are palpable fears that the PDP in Imo state would be like sheep without shepherd. Against the backdrop of certain external forces that are bent on controlling the political fortunes of the state, I hate to contemplate the prospects of our great party becoming an underdog in Imo state, the very heart of Igboland.

Consequently, there is need to evolve a deliberate strategy for galvanizing and sustaining the image of the party in the state and give our party faithful a sense of belonging. One sure way of doing this would be to empower the leadership of the party politically at the federal level. This may mean setting aside an important federal political position for me or any other party chieftain in the state as the President may deem fit as well as considering more Imo PDP members for appointment into Federal Commissions, agencies and parastatals.

If the President deems it fit, I would, with all sincerity and the deepest sense of responsibility, suggest that I be consulted while such appointment are being made; the reason being simply that having presided over the state in the last four years, I am in the best stead to evaluate the potency of federal appointments coming to the state under the new dispensation; in terms of which area gets what among the three zones of Orlu, Okigwe and Owerri. This is especially so because there is need to avoid the same scenario wherein some areas would go into opposition simply because they felt that federal appointments did not favour them.

I OFFER TO SERVE
One thing Your Excellency may wish to bear in mind is that with the Governor and Deputy Governor going respectively to Orlu and Owerri zones, a Ministerial appointment coming to Imo should go to Okigwe zone, my home zone. In this regard, I offer myself for further service at that level if given the opportunity. Without any prejudice, I wish to remind Your Excellency that three areas I have demonstrated flair in the National Economic Council are:
(1) Oil & Gas
(2) Police Reforms
(3) Urban Development and Renewal.

For example, with the benefits of my experience in recovering Owerri to make it the cleanest city in Nigeria, I could articulate an Urban Renewal Initiative to be known as The FCT Environserve Initiative to make Abuja the most organized and cleanest city in Africa.

CONCLUSSION
I shall remain ever appreciative of the support and personal love the President showed on me during my tenure. In all my tribulations, especially in the hands of hawks who never wanted to give me any chance, the President stood by me.

As Your Excellency continues on the mantle of leadership of our great country, I pledged my unalloyed royalty to him and his administration. I will continue to see myself both as a personal friend to Mr President and a patriotic citizen of Nigerian. Even as I step aside momentarily, I consider myself extremely lucky to be among the few in our generation who helped midwife the emergence of a fellow in the mould of Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to stir the ship of the Nigerian state in the 21st Century. I wish you well, Sir. My family and I will continue to remember you in our prayers for the good Lord to continue to bless, guard and protect you.

Ikedi Ohakim
PoliticsRe: The Many Evils Of Governor Ikedi Ohakim by bidell1(f): 4:52pm On May 09, 2011
b0dnel:
On a bright Friday morning, precisely on January 21, 2010, a team of five armed policemen arrived at the residence of one Ikenna Samuelson Iwuoha and escorted him into a black Toyota Prado SUV registered to the Imo State government house. His neighbours must have been green with envy thinking that Mr Iwuoha's has been given a cabinet position. Or what else could be the reason for the VIP treatment he was receiving?
Little did they know that this wasn't actually a luxury ride but one that would take Mr Iwuoha to hell. On that day, the governor of Imo State, Ikedi Ohakim, took it upon himself to personally flog the 40-year-old father of two. Right inside the governor's office, the governor, armed with a horsewhip, stripped Mr Iwuoha completely unclothed and for almost two hours flogged him like an erring donkey.
On his own account, Mr. Iwuoha had this to say:
"The governor head-butted me, punched me in the face and kicked me before returning to his table to grab a horsewhip. He ordered me to lie on the rug and he flogged me ruthlessly. While he was at it, his younger brother, Emmanuel Ohakim, who doubles as his chief of staff rushed in and shouted, ‘His excellency, his excellency!' The governor looked up and said, ‘Emma, this is Ikenna Samuelson. I will kill him today.'"
Mr Iwuoha has initiated several court cases against the governor which have ended up nowhere, due to the immunity from prosecution the governor enjoys.
It could also be recalled that on Sunday 8th of August 2010 security officials attached to Mr. Ikedi Ohakim arrested a man of God, Rev. Father Eustace Okorie for “allegedly” obstructing the convoy of the governor.
The security details accused the Catholic Priest of deliberately blocking the the governor’s convoy with his car along Orie-Akabo Ikeduru L.G.A. of the state. Rev. Father Eustace Okorie was immediately arrested, and his car impounded. The Priest was taken to the Government house. As soon as they touched down in Government house, they dragged him straight to what is fast turning into the Governor’s torture chambers. And there, his real travails began. He was stripped unclothed to his underpants, interrogated by the Chief security Officer of Governor Ohakim who took several pictures of the clergy before handing him over to the SSS office directly opposite the State House. He was then detained for more than two days alongside with a suspected student cultist when he purportedly refused to sign an implicating statement suggesting he blocked the road consciously.
Mrs Udoudo was driving to church one Sunday morning in with her two kids early February 2008 on Alfred Rewane road ,Lagos when Gov Ohakim's convoy sped down behind her. The Governors aides claimed that the woman had obstructed the convoy, thus posing security risk. The woman was repeatedly slapped, harassed and beaten by the security officers in the convoy. In addition, her car was damaged. Her frightened kids ran out of the car and could just have been run down by on coming vehicles. The most bizarre aspect of the incident was that the governor himself was seated in one of the cars, watching as a hapless woman was assaulted by his security goons. I can only imagine what was going on in the governor’s mind as this woman was brutalised on the road. What kind of a governor would take delight in such a macabre spectacle?
Space will not allow me to recount the story of Precious Efurueze, the 13-year-old boy, accused of allegedly attempting to kill Ikedi Ohakim (and former president Olusegun Obasanjo)in Owerri on 31, March,by stoning their campaign convoy with sachets of pure water! This Juvinile has been remanded in custody.
The chief magistrate explained that her reason for denying the accused bail is that they had been charged with felony which carries a punishment of life imprisonment if found guilty. She said the offence is a serious one and, therefore, should not be treated lightly.
The case was adjourned to May 30, for further hearing.
Today’s election signals the dawn of a new era in Imo state. By May 30th, Ikedi Ohakim will no longer enjoy the “immunity” he had enjoyed in the last four years.
I strongly call on all relevant bodies and associations to see that this man is tried and prosecuted and if found guilty, be sent to Jail!!!

5th: Dele Momodu (National Conscience Party)
6th: Chris Okotie (Fresh Democratic Party)

I think they should have included Shekarau as I believe the above names were selected before the last debate. Shekarau has won the hearts of many and as such should be invited, IMO

PoliticsHenry Okah Nailed by bidell1(op): 3:26am On Oct 22, 2010
South African prosecutors said yesterday that Henry Okah gave orders to buy the cars used in the October 1 Abuja bombings and rig them with explosives. Okah, the alleged leader of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) was arrested in Johannesburg on October 2, the day after the twin car bomb blasts, which killed 12 people near the Eagle Square.

“The accused gave instructions to purchase the cars used and load their boots with dynamite,” prosecutor Shaun Abrahams said at Okah’s bail hearing in Johannesburg, reading from an affidavit by the South African police’s lead investigator in the case.

Abrahams said Chima Orlu, the man the Federal Government believe supervised the attacks, contacted Okah by SMS immediately before the blasts and about two hours after.

Orlu, who is wanted in Nigeria, “acted on the instruction of the accused,” Abrahams said. He did not give details of Okah’s alleged exchanges with Orlu, saying the contents are still being investigated. Abrahams also said Okah was in contact by email with some of the nine people arrested in Nigeria after the blasts, and received a forwarded message from one of them that said, “Done, tell them to leave now”, at 4:25 pm, about five and a half hours after the bombings.

According to the affidavit, the explosions took place under the supervision of Chima Orlu, who is said to have acted on the instructions of Mr Okah. Mr Orlu’s telephone records show that he had been in contact with Mr Okah on numerous occasions leading up to October 1. Mr Okah is said to have sent text messages to Mr Orlu on 30 September 2010 at 12h 38:11pm, and on October 1 at 6h 02:39am, 7h 40: 20am, 7h 41:22am and at 7h 41:35 am. Mr Zeeman’s statement stressed that “of greater significance is that Mr Orlu sent an SMS to Mr Okah at precisely 10h 58:59 am on 1 October, 13h 13:01am and 13h 29:59pm on the same day.”

“There are also witness statements which implicate the accused as having been the mastermind behind the attacks,” Abrahams said. He was speaking a day after the magistrate in the case told the prosecution the evidence it had presented in the week-long bail hearing was “vague”.

I can see facts and figures which can not be debated, What does Henry Okah got to say now?
He has been asked to name the close associate of Jonathan that contacted him and uptill now, he has not done so,
