NAF OFFICER AWARDED 2023 INTERNATIONAL SWORD OF HONOUR AT RAF COLLEGE CRANWELL UK

A Nigerian Air Force (NAF) officer, has been awarded the International Sword of Honour for 2023 at the Royal Air Force College Cranwell (RAFCC), United Kingdom (UK). Flying Officer David Sangokoya attended the Modularized Initial Officers’ Training (MIOT) Course 22 as a cadet from March to September 2023, emerging as the Best International Cadet on the Course. The RAFCC graduates up to 8 courses yearly, and the International Sword of Honour goes to the most outstanding amongst the award-winning International Cadets for the year. The prestigious award was presented to Flying Officer Sangokoya by His Royal Highness, William, the Prince of Wales, on behalf of King Charles III, at the Royal Graduation on 12 September 2024. It is noteworthy that Flying Officer Sangokoya is the first African recipient of the RAFCC International Sword of Honour. This highlights not only the young officer’s individual excellence but also the NAF’s pedigree of exceptional performance on the international stage.

In his congratulatory message to the officer, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar commended him for this remarkable achievement. According to the CAS, this prestigious recognition is a testament to the officer’s focus, dedication and hard work throughout his training. The CAS also applauded his family for their support and encouragement, which no doubt played a vital role in his success. Air Marshal Abubakar noted that NAF is proud of this accomplishment, which shines a positive light on both the Service and the nation at large.

I think the airforce needs to rethink the ammunition it employs on it's drone, there is need for more lethality, and i would suggest we start using thermobaric warheads. And when using he-frag, we need bigger bombs.

yeah that would be a welcome idea, I thought have been the only one thinking about this ?
The Baykar Bayraktar Akıncı comes with more precision & powerful bombs/weapons like; teber-81 (Mark 81 bomb w/ ROKETSAN Laser Guidance Kit) HGK-82 (Mark 82 bomb w/ TUBITAK-SAGE Precision Guidance Kit) KGK-82 (Mark 82 bomb w/ TUBITAK-SAGE Wing Assisted Guidance Kit).
while western counterparts primary MQ-9 Reaper make use of AGM-114 Hellfire missiles, GBU-12 Paveway II and GBU-38 JDAM Propulsion. The Chinese UAV as some impressive weaponry in these class, as guided/smart/laser guided bombs.

The smart guided bombs would do more damage, ITS JUST ALL ABOUT THE COST.

Bidexii, is this true…??

the Army HQ has debunk this story ?

CLAIMS OF MASS RESIGNATION IN THE NIGERIAN ARMY BASELESS AND MISLEADING
The Nigerian Army categorically rejects recent media reports, particularly from Sahara Reporters, alleging widespread resignations within its ranks due to issues of corruption, low morale, and poor welfare. These claims are not only misleading but also a deliberate attempt to sow discord and tarnish the reputation of the Nigerian Army and its personnel. It is important to emphasize that service in the Nigerian Army, much like other military institutions worldwide, is entirely voluntary. Personnel are free to disengage, following established procedures, as stipulated in the Harmonized Terms and Conditions of Service for both officers and soldiers.
Routine discharges within the Nigerian Army are handled in an organized and procedural manner, allowing personnel to transition smoothly while receiving their rightful benefits, including pensions, gratuities, and other entitlements. The routine release of personnel names who are either voluntarily or mandatorily disengaging is a standard practice, contrary to the chaotic process suggested in the recent reports. The insinuation that soldiers are resigning en masse due to poor welfare is an outright misrepresentation of the truth. Discharges from the Nigerian Army can occur for several reasons, including voluntary exits, medical grounds, or personal pursuit of other career opportunities. Furthermore, recruitment into the Nigerian Army remains highly competitive, with far more applicants than available positions, which counters any claims of dissatisfaction within the ranks.
Contrary to these allegations, the Nigerian Army continues to prioritize the welfare and well-being of its personnel under the leadership of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja. The past year has witnessed remarkable progress in improving living conditions and overall morale, with notable initiatives such as the Affordable Housing Option for All Soldiers Scheme (AHOOAS). This nationwide scheme enables personnel to own homes and secure dignified post-service accommodation, demonstrating the Army’s commitment to providing for its soldiers during and after their service.
Additionally, the Army is undertaking extensive renovations and constructing new infrastructure across military formations, units, and barracks to ensure a conducive environment for personnel and their families. Regular and timely payment of allowances for soldiers on deployment is also being ensured, alongside free air transport for personnel on leave and medical evacuation services for injured troops, both domestically and abroad. Military hospitals are being upgraded to enhance healthcare services for soldiers and their families.
Furthermore, the Army continues to invest in the professional development of its personnel, with ongoing training programs aimed at enhancing the capabilities of both officers and soldiers, ensuring they are equipped to operate at the highest standards in line with global best practices.
In view of these facts, the claims of widespread resignation due to poor welfare are both irrational and without merit. The Nigerian Army remains committed to the welfare and operational readiness of its personnel, guided by the COAS's command philosophy of transforming the Army into a well-trained, well-equipped, and highly motivated force capable of fulfilling its constitutional duties.
We urge media organizations to verify information before publication and avoid being used as instruments of disinformation. The Nigerian Army will continue its efforts to safeguard the welfare and morale of its personnel as they diligently serve the nation.

CAS MEETS WITH EGYPTIAN COUNTERPART, PILOT TRAINING AND R&grin TOP ON AGENDA

The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, and his Egyptian counterpart, Lieutenant General Mahmoud Foaad Abd El-Gawad, have pledged to enhance cooperation and collaboration between their air forces, particularly in pilot training and Research and Development (R&grin). The commitment was made on 4 September 2024, when General El-Gawad hosted Air Marshal Abubakar at his office in Cairo, Egypt.

Regarding pilot training, both leaders acknowledged the rich history of training collaboration between their air forces, which they agreed should be further leveraged—especially by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), which has previously benefited from the training of around 50 pilots by the Egyptian Air Force (EAF). The two chiefs also explored opportunities for collaboration in R&grin, particularly concerning NAF’s Alpha jets. It was agreed that the EAF would send a delegation to Nigeria to assess the Alpha jets, with the goal of undertaking an overhaul of the aircraft in conjunction with NAF engineers. The visiting team would also evaluate the possibility of conducting in-house tactical training for NAF pilots to enhance their proficiency.

During the visit, Air Marshal Abubakar also attended the Egypt International Air Show at El-Alamein International Airport. There, he held discussions with Aero Vodochody Aerospace, a Czech aircraft manufacturer of the L-39NG aircraft—one of the aircraft in NAF’s inventory—along with CATIC, the manufacturers of the Wing Loong Unmanned Aerial Vehicle and Ariegsa, an Egyptian company known for providing tailored solutions for high-level needs and integrating defense and attack systems across diverse platforms. Ariegsa is particularly renowned for its expertise in manufacturing aircraft simulators. As a result, the NAF signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the company to construct a simulator for each aircraft type in the NAF Order of Battle. It was also agreed that the simulators would be built in Nigeria in collaboration with NAF engineers to facilitate knowledge transfer.

Joining the CAS on the trip were the Director of Training, Air Vice Marshal Ahmed Idris, and the Commander of the 301 Heavy Airlift Group, Air Commodore Adebayo Bamidele.
