Oliveira said on 7 February that the demonstration, which took place as part of the KC-390's route to WDS 2024 that saw it depart Brazil and fly to Nigeria, Malta, and onto Saudi Arabia, showcased the aircraft's tactical air mobility, airdrop, paratrooper, search-and-rescue, and aerial refuelling capabilities, as well as its relative ease of maintenance.

As noted by Janes World Air Forces , the NAF launched a procurement programme between 2014 and 2016 to replace its fleet of C-130 aircraft with 5–10 medium tactical transport aircraft. Platforms offered during the bidding process included the Lockheed Martin C-130J Hercules, the Airbus A400M, and the Shaanxi Y-9 transport aircraft. The KC-390 was not previously named in relation to this requirement, though it now seems to be in the running. A contract is expected to be awarded before 2025.

I pray this comes through, a very beautiful aircraft. Please where is the NA procurement in all this ?

.Only the NAF is getting all the goodies, just asking sad

COUNTER TERRORISM: General Shaibu Declares Counter Terrorism Practitioner Course Open

In a bid to frustrate the employment of Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) by terrorists in the North East Theatre of Operations, The Theatre Commander Joint Task Force (JTF) North East (NE) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), Maj Gen W Shaibu declared open a Counter Terrorist Search Practitioner Course, organized by the British Military Advisory Training Team (BMATT) today 12 February 2024, at Maimalari Cantonment Maiduguri.

He averred that the training was tailored towards equipping all arms personnel with the necessary skills and knowledge required to participate in low - risk combat search task to help in safely detecting IEDs, urging them to be committed, dedicated and purposeful as they go through the course, so as to come out better informed on safe detection of IEDs. He equally charged them to make the course a worthy endeavour to save lives of troops and civilians in their area of responsibilities.

Gen Shaibu used the medium to express his gratitude to the BMATT for their efforts in the training, the Theatre Training Officer, 47 Engineer Brigade, as well as staff officers for ensuring the course came to fruition.

In attendance were the Acting GOC 7 Division and Commander Sector 1 OPHK Brig Gen AGL Haruna, Component Commanders, staff officers from Headquarters Theatre Command and 7 Div, Programme Manager Operation TURUS Stephen Mockett and team of instructors from BMATT.

The United States will not allow Nigeria buy Russian aircrafts, we might not like it, but this is the fact.

We could make the JF-17s a full squadron.

That's true i agree but time changes, what about China.
For now the best thing is get more JF-17s.

Which are more stealthy than the SU-57?

I dont get your point ?
What aim saying is we should get aircrafts for power projection but for now we can improve the numbers of JF-17 thunders.

To your question; "the Su-57 opts for a more traditional canted tail and horizontal stabilizers, the Su 75 Checkmate instead features a ruddervator that with fewer surfaces. It would presumably be stealthier than a conventional tail assembly and it was designed to be a light weight fighter aircraft"

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned medium transport choppers.

For me we still need more assets; especially male UAV, long endurance UAV/spy UAV, transport & logistic aircraft both for logistics/transport for fixes wings and rotary aircraft

Not e need more fighter aircrafts for power projection; probably the JF thunder block lll and in the nearest future su 75s/Su 35s or better still go for a stealthier aircraft.

I think we have enough MALE UAVs, where I believe we need more aircraft is in transport and logistics.

The C-130s we have are getting old, and are in need of replacement. The KC-390 is the perfect replacement for them.

On this Fighter Jets issue, I don't think we need more Fighter Jets. The M-346FA we're buying is Fighter Attack, this means that we would be getting an aircraft that's capable for any type of mission, and the numbers also makes sense.

We currently have 13 upgraded F-7NI's and 3 JF-17s for a total of 15 aircrafts for power projection.

Can we boast of 20 Male UAV at every stand up time ?

We need long endurance UAV in the North central/west and other theatres to combat kidnapping/Bandits.

For fighter jets and trainers, I think we are good. Has for the power projection both the upgraded and jf-17 are still in 3rd generation for me. @Kabe I want to see an airforce that can compete or get close to the likes of Egypt and Algeria etc I believe we can achieve and we have the purchasing power. This is just my own take.

Has for Faithfull007 I totally agree with him;
during Retrd Air Marshal Sadique Baba Abubakar tenure we saw alot of investing in training of NCO/COs but has time goes it declined over the years. I miss that man's administration, His still my best service chief we ever had in recent time. I don't know if the force are still training more SOF/PANTHERS, the rate of training and standardization was rapidly improving then.

Anyways the NAF is on the right track and direction, Rome was not built in a day. Am proud of what the airforce has achieved so far.

Do you think the Nigerian Air Force would require more assets after this?

2x AW109 Trekker helicopters
2x Beechcraft King Air 360 ISR
4x Diamond DA-62 ISR
6x T-129 ATAK helicopters
3x Wing Loong II UCAV
2x CASA-295 medium airlift/surveillance aircraft
12x AH-1Z attack helicopters
24x M-346 trainer/attack aircrafts (First official confirmation from CAS).

55 aircraft’s in total, so far 10 have been delivered;

1x Beechcraft King Air 360 ISR
4x Diamond DA-62 ISR
2x T-129 ATAK helicopters
3x Wing Loong II UCAV.

Is there a reason why we don't have a full squadron of this birds?

I do ask myself that same question sometimes; probably the NAF has issue maintaining them and we've lost couple of them in the fight against insurgency/bandatory.

At Bidexii, given the speed we bought and inducted the choppers, are we going to buy more? It sure makes more sense than getting the Vipers that has still not arrived and can be cancelled whenever Uncle Sam gets haemorrhoids.

production of the vipers has started already and will be getting all the birds by June/July this year. For the T129 there is probability we might go for more and we might just stick to that only 5 units.
I think the reason why NAF went for the T129 was because we where not getting any missiles for the AHZ viper.

UK DEPUTY DEFENCE CHIEF COMMENDS NIGERIAN ARMY’S COMMITMENT TO PEACE AND STABILITY IN AFRICA

The United Kingdom (UK) Deputy Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General Sir Roly Walker has lauded the Nigerian Army (NA) for its significant role in maintaining peace and stability in Africa and the West African Subregion. The Defence Chief gave the commendation today, Tuesday 6 February 2024 during his visit to the Army Headquarters, Abuja.

General Walker appreciated the NA’s steadfast commitment to peacekeeping efforts across the continent, highlighting its pivotal role in addressing regional security challenges and the need for collaborative efforts to address persistent security concerns.

Speaking on the upcoming security and defence dialogue between the UK and Nigeria, General Walker expressed the commitment of United Kingdom to strengthening partnership with the Nigeria Army and reaffirmed continued support for initiatives aimed at enhancing regional security and stability.

Responding, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), appreciated the harmonious working relationship between the two armies and the contribution of the British Military Advisory and Training Team (BMATT) which he said, has been of immense assistance to the NA in the fight against terrorism and insurgency.

The Army Chief also acknowledged the supporting role of BMATT to the NA, especially in the area of capacity development. He noted that this has significantly upscaled the role of the NA in the fight against terrorism in Nigeria and the subregion.

The COAS pledged that the NA will entrench its relationship with the UK and expand the frontiers for mutual cooperation in order to achieve shared security objectives.
