A WONDERFUL AND COLOURFUL OPERATION LAFIYA DOLE MEDAL PRESENTATION PARADE AND NIGERIAN ARMY SOCIAL ACTIVITIES (NASA) 2019 HELD AT GWOZA

I had the rare privilege of attending the historic and colourful Operation LAFIYA DOLE Medal Presentation Parade and Nigerian Army Social Activities (NASA) 2019, held on 30th December 2019 at Nigerian Army Super Camp Gwoza, Borno State.

It was very wonderful and great pride to be in the midst of the gallant officers and soldiers of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, their allies from MNJTF including; Chad, Cameroon and Niger Republic, as well as Nigeria Police Force, NSCDC personnel and other security agencies at the event.

It was heartwarming to observe the rate of progress and transformation achieved both in Gwoza LGA and the theatre generally. The journey from Maiduguri to Gwoza through Konduga, Bama and Pulka brought very fond memories of the days I was in service and when we traversed the terrain, recalling exploits and sacrifices of our gallant troops in the fight against the Boko Haram Terrorist group on that axis.

It was also gratifying to see how life has gradually picked up in those areas, bearing in mind that they were once territories held by the terrorists in the years gone by.

I was so impressed by the level of camaraderie among the troops and really felt very proud of them. In fact, I became very emotional when the troops displayed the photographs of some of our gallant officers and men that paid the supreme price in the fight against terrorism and insurgency in Nigeria.

I recall with pride the sacrifices made by the Armed Forces of Nigeria, the Police, other Security agencies, patriotic civilian JTF and other Nigerians to rid our nation with the menace of terrorism.

One other impressive innovation that caught my attention was the recognition, honour and instant promotion awarded to the 5 gallant soldiers, one civilian JTF and a local hunter that did exceptionally well during the fight against terrorism and insurgency in the north east.

I really remain grateful and happy that I was able to witnessed this occasion. I could not wish for anything better to round up 2019.

The military armoured tank that caught fire in Damaturu, Yobe state yesterday morning 30 Dec 2019 was as a result of electrical fault. The incident is far from any attack on the metropolis. ~ Captain Njoka Irabor {Spokesman, Operation Lafiya Dole Sector II}

More photos of the 2 Eritrean Air Force operated Su-27 Flanker (608) and (609). The Eritrean AF Su-27 "splinter" camouflage scheme is based on the Ukrainian AF splinter scheme with different colours. ErAF Su-27s are basic Su-27S and UB variants, no Su-27SK or UBK variants!

PRESS RELEASE

BOKO HARAM ELEMENTS SUFFER MORE DEBILITATING DEFEATS AS NIGERIAN ARMY TROOPS SUSTAIN THEIR AUDACIOUS ACTION AGAINST REMNANTS OF THE CRIMINAL INSURGENTS ACROSS THE THEATRE

The relentless clearance and other offensive operations being conducted by the troops of Operation LAFIYA DOLE against remnants of the Boko Haram and Islamic State's West African Province (ISWAP) terrorists under the ambit of a special operation nicknamed Operation RUFE KOFA is gaining traction by the day.

In a laudable demonstration of bold action in combat, on 24th December 2019, troops of 192 Bn, Sector 1 Operation LAFIYA DOLE conducted clearance operations from Madagali through Waga Lawan, Jaje to Fadama all in Madagali LGA of Borno State. During the operation, the troops had a meeting engagement with elements of the Boko Haram criminals and a fire fight ensued.

The Boko Haram insurgents were decisively dealt with, forcing them to hurriedly flee the location in disarray. Troops destroyed all of the criminals’ structures, farmland, harvested grains stored in underground bunkers and one Lister grinding machine. In another encounter at Fadama Village, the criminals’ flag hoisted on a tree was captured and immediately lowered after the troops had effectively subdued the criminal insurgents with superior fire power forcing them to flee in disarray.

Items recovered from the criminals include 2 bicycles, copies of Quran and several other personal effects. Interestingly, no causality was recorded by the gallant troops.

Similarly, the troops of 151 Bn, Sector 1 Operation LAFIYA DOLE handed a humiliating defeat to a bunch of Boko Haram criminal insurgents in the early hours of 25th December 2019 while on clearance operation conducted deep into the Sambisa Forest. During the encounter, one Boko Haram suicide bomber tried to force himself into the troops’ firm base, but the gallant troops aborted this heinous intent by promptly neutralising him and his cohorts with effective fire in the general area.

The Improvised Explosive Device strapped to his body got detonated in the process and his body parts were found scattered across the field. Items recovered in the aftermath of the encounter include 81 mm mortar muzzle cover, 2 rounds of Anti-Aircraft ammunition, one AK 47 magazine and one passport photo.

The Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Tukur Yusufu Buratai extends his goodwill message to the troops and further admonishes them to remain resolute in their efforts at clearing and destroying all the hideouts and enclaves of the remnants of the criminal insurgents across the Theatre.

You are kindly requested to disseminate above information to the general public for awareness. Thank you for your usual cooperation.

*PRESS RELEASE*

*ISLAMIC STATE'S WEST AFRICAN PROVINCE (ISWAP) LOSE SCORES OF THEIR CRIMINAL INSURGENTS INCLUDING TOP COMMANDERS IN FAILED INFILTRATION ATTEMPTS AT DAMATURU AND BIU AS GALLANT NIGERIAN ARMY TROOPS CONTINUE THEIR DARING PERFORMANCES AGAINST THE CRIMINAL INSURGENTS ACROSS THE THEATRE*

In a commendable display of sheer gallantry, the troops of Sector 2 Operation LAFIYA DOLE in conjunction with the Air Task Force Operation LAFIYA DOLE delivered a humiliating defeat to a group of Islamic State's West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on 22nd December 2019 during a massive failed attempt by the criminal insurgents to infiltrate Damaturu, the Yobe State Capital. During the encounter, the resilient troops promptly mobilized and blocked the criminal insurgents’ advance along Gashua Road in the outskirts of Damaturu. The troops thereafter engaged the criminals in a fierce fire fight with the support of Air Task Force Operation LAFIYA DOLE which unleashed devastating fire power from the air to help take out some of the criminals' Gun Trucks. This superior fire power forced the criminal insurgents to withdraw in disarray albeit with very heavy casualty in both men and equipment. It is confirmed that a top ISWAP Commander, Abu Muqhtar, believed to have coordinated several attacks along the fringes of Lake Chad was neutralised along with over 30 other insurgents in that attack. Regrettably, 2 gallant soldiers were wounded in action during the encounter. The wounded personnel are currently receiving treatment and responding positively at a military medical facility. In the aftermath of the encounter, troops captured 1 Gun Truck and destroyed 2 others. Troops equally captured 561 Rounds of 12.7mm ammunition, 1420 Rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, 1850 Rounds of 7.62mmX51 ammunition and 2 Rocket Propelled Gun bombs. Other items captured by the gallant troops include, one Hand Held Communication Radio, 27 sachets of Meal Ready to Eat wraps and 350 liters of Premium Motor Spirit (Petrol).

In a related development, some criminal Boko Haram insurgents, oblivious of the humiliating defeat suffered by their cohorts barely 24 hours ago, were reportedly sighted heading towards Biu town from Mandara Girau axis of Biu LGA of Borno State late in the afternoon of 23rd December 2019, mounted on 17 Gun Trucks and motorcycles. In a swift and commendably bold response, the troops of 231 Battalion moved and engaged the advancing criminals while troops of 331 Artillery Regiment brought to bear deafening artillery bombardment on the visibly confused criminal insurgents forcing them to withdraw in disarray amid heavy casualty.

In yet another development, in the early hours of Monday 23rd December 2019, troops of 121 Task Force Battalion deployed at Pulka in Gwoza LGA of Borno State also thwarted another Boko Haram attack on their location with devastating consequence on the marauding criminals. The 2 front attacks by the criminals were effectively contained and decisively repulsed by the gallant troops. In the aftermath of the encounter, 4 Boko Haram criminals including one suicide bomber were neutralized while others are believed to have escaped with varying degrees of gunshot wounds.

In a related development, troops of Sector 1 deployed at Gwoza LGA of Borno State conducted a robust clearance operation deep into Sambisa Forest on 23rd December 2019. The rugged troops cleared Banari, Keluri, Usmanti and Jowlori Villages all of Gwoza LGA respectively. During the operation, troops came in contact with some Boko Haram criminals who obviously could not withstand the troops' fighting prowess and therefore fled deep into the forest. Nevertheless, the troops captured 2 of the criminal Boko Haram insurgents alive, rescued 9 women and 9 children. The rescued children were immediately administered with Polio vaccine before being evaluated to safety. The troops equally recovered several items from the terrorists including 8 rounds of Anti-Aircraft Gun ammunition, 14 ammunition projectiles, one ammunition projectile for Shilka, 9 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, one Black Boko Haram flag, some quantities of drugs, clothing, wires, bandolier and one Dane gun.

In an earlier development that occured on 22nd December 2019, troops of Headquarters 19 Brigade defeated a Boko Haram criminals’ ambush between Gajigana and Tungushe in Magumeri LGA of Borno State while on a fighting patrol along the axis. During the brief encounter, 2 Boko Haram criminals strapped with Improvised Explosive Device jackets were neutralised while one AK 47 rifle was recovered from the insurgents.

Also, on 21st December 2019, troops of 112 Task Force Battalion deployed at Ajiri in Mafa LGA of Borno State equally dealt a devastating blow on some marauding Boko Haram criminals mounted on 4 Gun Trucks and motorcycles. The resilient troops intercepted the criminals while advancing from the Dikwa axis with precise artillery fire and unrelenting ground assault which sent the criminals off balance and scampering for safety in total disarray. Nevertheless, 4 Boko Haram criminals were neutralized (one of them clad in suicide vest) while one Gun Truck, one Anti-Aircraft Gun, 41 Rounds of Anti-Aircraft Gun ammunition, 68 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition NATO, one AK 47 rifle, one AK 47 rifle magazine, were captured from the insurgents. Other items captured include one Baofeng Hand Held radio, some quantities of Boko Haram uniforms and warm clothing.

In another development, on 22nd December 2019, a Joint Tactical Team deployed to Borno and Yobe States apprehended a suspected ISWAP spy and logistics supplier, one Mohammed Aliyu at Mega Zaleri area of Konduga LGA of Borno State. Preliminary investigation revealed series of communications between the suspect, Modu Sulum and Abu Qaqa both of whom are high profile ISWAP Commanders on the wanted list of the Nigerian Army. During preliminary interrogation, the suspect confessed to have been informing ISWAP of Military and Nigeria Police movements and deployments. He further added that he uses donkeys for shipment of items he supplies to ISWAP as a deception to evade security checks.

The Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Tukur Yusufu Buratai extends his goodwill message to the troops and further admonishes them to remain resolute in finishing the remnants of the criminal elements who are currently strangulated and obviously gasping for their lives in the Theatre.

You are kindly requested to disseminate above information to the general public for awareness. Thank you for your usual cooperation.

VEHICLE MADE IN EKITI STATE

TEKOWI: A MADE IN NIGERIA ARMOURED VEHICLE MADE BY TWO BROTHERS IN EKITI

A local automobile company, Obasa Specialty Vehicle (OSV), located in Ijero-Ekiti, Ekiti State, has unveiled an all-terrain vehicle named Tekowi.

The vehicle, the company said, was manufactured at its factory in Ijero-Ekiti, Ekiti State.

The company was commissioned on December 5, 1980 by the late High Chief Joe Oluware Obasa, a car distributor for Peugeot Automobile Nigeria (PAN). The company was upgraded to manufacture special vehicles for security personnel and civilian uses by his two sons High Chief Johnson Obasa and Victor Obasa.

Tekowi was coined from “te oko wi,” an Ekiti local dialect which means sandals or boots that farmers and hunters wear regularly to the bush to stamp on anything. Tekowi is a combination of ruggedness and luxury.

Tekowi is handcrafted with simple tools and locally sourced materials.

Kudos to our gallant men and women who went out last night defending our nation and our land against the enemy of our people. They came but unknown to them our gallant soldiers were prepared and dealt a big blow to them. This are some of the things recovered from them, And it makes me happy that we have no casualty on our own troops. Victory is from God alone. God bless our soldiers, God bless the Nigerian Army and God bless Nigeria.
