SternProphet:Of course they would want to deny it; they can't handle the truth ![]() |
SternProphet:No points to back up your claims. In January 2016, Russia, for the first time in combat conditions, deployed four Su-35S planes to Khmeimim air base in Syria as part of Russian air operations in the country.[95] This occurred following an increase in tension between Russia and Turkey as a result of reported incursions by Russian aircraft into Turkish airspace.[96] The aircraft complemented the Su-30SMs in flying combat air patrols and providing protection to other aircraft that were conducting bombing missions.[97] As a result of operations in Syria, problems were identified with the aircraft's avionics and were subsequently rectified.[98] The aircraft reportedly will attain full operational capability in late 2018. They where rectified not pulled out of Syria. |

PRESS BRIEFING ON THE OCCASION OF NIGERIAN ARMY DAY CELEBRATION 2018 BY THE CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF T GEN TY BURATAI AT MAIDUGURI BORNO STATE ON FRIDAY 29 JUNE 2018 Protocol 1. I am most delighted to welcome you, distinguished members of the Fourth Estate of the Realm to this press briefing which is the first major event in the series of activities lined up to mark this year’s Nigerian Army Day Celebration 2018. This Press Briefing is in line with the Nigerian Army’s resolve to carry every Nigerians along in our activities, I am therefore here today to brief you on the activities scheduled for the week-long event to commemorate this year’s Nigerian Army Day Celebration. 2. Let me begin by reminding us on the reason for this celebration as well as give us a brief history of the Nigerian Army Day Celebration. The unfortunate 30-months long Nigerian Civil War was announced by a shot that was fired on the 6th of July 1967 at Garkem which is in present day Cross River State. The Nigerian Civil war was fought to keep Nigeria one and a lot of soldiers paid the supreme price in that process. The Nigerian Army Day Celebration is therefore a constant reminder of the sacrifices paid by troops most of whom as I said laid down their lives to ensure we remain united as a nation. 3. This celebration is also designed to array Nigerian Army personnel and equipment as well as showcase the combat capability of the Nigerian Army. Furthermore, the celebration affords us the opportunity to celebrate our evolution, achievements and also to showcase our transformational strides in the area of innovation, research and development, civil military relations and technological advances. This is in addition to projecting the Nigerian Army as an instrument of national unity, integration and development. This year, the Nigerian Army will be marking 155 years of its existence, dating back to its inception in 1863. 4. We are aware of the many security challenges that have bedeviled this country in the last decade or so. However I am pleased to state that the Nigerian Army has made giant strides in this regard particularly in the last one year. Our security architecture as a country is one with a very positive outlook. We have not only consolidated on the gains established in the fight against insurgency in the North East but have progressed to the post stabilization phase where all efforts are geared towards ensuring displaced persons return to their biological homes which are now safe. 5. That is why I directed that an operation codenamed Operation LAST HOLD be conducted in the fringes of the Lake Chad waters and Northern Borno. This operation is a humanitarian one in which we seek to return the Internally Displaced Persons and also provide the much needed security and guarantee for them to return back to their economic lives of farming, fishing and trading. With the defeat of the insurgents, it is time to encourage our people to return to their ancestral home. 6. This year’s Army Day Celebration is quite unique as you will see the innovative, research and development and technological side of the Nigerian Army. We have carefully packaged some activities along this line which you will witness in the course of the celebration. That is why the theme for this year’s celebration is “The Nigerian Army and National Security: A Panacea for Nigeria’s Economic Development”. We as an Army are determined more than ever before to contribute our quota to national development. This theme is also in line with my vision “to have a Professionally Responsive Nigerian Army in the discharge of its Constitutional Roles”. 7. Like I stated in the beginning, this press briefing kick starts the series of activities for this year’s celebration. Later today, Jumua’at Prayers will be held at the Prayer Ground in Maimalari Barracks here in Maiduguri and across all formations in Nigerian. Likewise, there will be an Interdenominational Church Service at the All Saints Military Church, Maimalari Barracks as well as across all formations in the country on 1 Jul 18 as part of the events for the Nigerian Army Day Celebration. 8. Other activities lined up for the week long celebration include the following: a. Sanitation Exercise b. Medical Outreach to be undertaken at selected locations across Borno State and other parts of the country by all Nigerian Army Formations and units between 2 - 6 July 2018. c. Local and International Military Equipment Manufacturers Exhibition. d. Mini Trade Fair. e. Static Display of Nigerian Army’s Equipment Capability. f. Airborne/Paratroopers Demonstration. g. Fire Power Demonstration among others. 9. The grand finale of the celebration will take place on Saturday 7 Jul 18 at Monguno. The President, Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, President Muhammadu Buhari is expected to grace the occasion as the Special Guest of Honour on that day. 10. Gentlemen of the press, the Nigerian Army is continuously making sacrifices towards ensuring the unity and development of this great nation. We therefore use the occasion of this celebration to solicit for the cooperation, prayers and goodwill of all. Let us join hands to collectively build and take this nation forward. I therefore urge us all to desist from acts that are capable of truncating the peace. We must be tolerant of one another and learn to give peace a chance. Let us also remember that no nation can develop or be economically vibrant without peace. I therefore want to use this medium to solicit with us all to be our brothers’ keeper. We assure all Nigerians that the Nigerian Army is for you and will continue to work for the common good of the country while professionally carrying out its constitutional responsibilities. 11. The current crisis in Plateau, Benue, Taraba and Zamfara States are both induced internally and externally. So many forces are against Nigeria. The target is the corporate existence of Nigeria as a country. The blame game along ethnic and religious fault lines is not the solution. Nigerians must unite to solve this serious challenge. The Nigerian Army is not sleeping. We are continuously exploiting all the linkages and leads towards addressing the security challenges we shall get to the roots of all the crisis militarily. Therefore, we must be tolerant of one another and give peace a chance. let us also remember that no nation can develop or be economically vibrant without peace. I therefore want to use this medium to solicit with us all to be our brothers' keepers. We assure all Nigerians that the Nigerian Army is for you and will continue to work for the common good of the country while professionally carrying out its constitutional responsibilities. 12. On this note, let me express my sincere gratitude to the media for their wonderful support to the Nigerian Army at all times. I urge you to give this year’s celebration the wide coverage and publicity it deserves. Finally, I thank you for your continued support in our efforts in the pursuit of peace, security and progress of our dear nation. 13. Thank you for your attention. |

NAF HOLDS 2018 LEGAL CONFERENCE IN MAIDUGURI, CONDEMNS ALL FORMS OF HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has commenced a 3-day Legal Conference for NAF field commanders and legal officers at the Air Vice Marshal (AVM) EE Edem Multipurpose Hall, NAF Base Maiduguri. The Conference, which has the theme “The Role of Military Lawyers in Contemporary Military Operations”, is one of the human capacity building initiatives of the current NAF leadership aimed at enhancing the knowledge of participants to enable them more effectively tackle legal issues associated with the performance of their constitutional roles. The Conference is featuring lectures on topics such as “Targeting”, “Application of the Law of Targeting to Modern Battlefield”, “Command and Individual Responsibility in Law of Armed Conflict (LOAC)” and “Rules of Engagement (ROE)”, which are being delivered by highly experienced resource persons. At the opening ceremony on 27 June 2018, the Special Guest of Honour, the Executive Governor of Borno State, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, who was represented by the Borno State Head of Service, Architect Yerima Saleh, expressed delight that the Conference was being held in Maiduguri. He restated the commitment of the Government and people of Borno State to supporting the continuous efforts of the NAF improving security in the State. He also lauded NAF’s human capacity development efforts, noting that equipping commanders and lawyers with requisite knowledge was critical to ensuring that their operations were always conducted within the ambits of the law. In his remarks at the event, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, stated that the nature of non-conventional warfare requires that personnel maintain a high level of professionalism and firm understanding of their responsibilities under the law. He emphasised that the dynamic nature of such operational environments and the attendant need to keep abreast with constantly evolving legal considerations made it necessary for field commanders and legal officers to be knowledgeable and up-to-date with current and emerging trends in both local and international laws that govern the conduct of air operations. He therefore urged participants to make the most of the Conference by applying the knowledge gained to fine-tune their decision-making processes for enhanced performance. Speaking further, Air Marshal Abubakar reminded the personnel that the fight against Boko Haram Terrorists was being waged because the insurgents had violated the rights of Nigerian citizens in the Northeast to life, education, liberty and productive livelihood, among others. He said it would thus be a contemptible breach of trust if military personnel, who are charged with combatting the terrorists, turned around to perpetrate similar offenses against those who they were supposed to protect. He therefore stressed that the NAF, under his leadership, would maintain zero tolerance for human rights violations. The CAS concluded by observing that the Service had always promptly investigated and dealt with all allegations of human rights violations against its personnel and would continue to do so, once such allegations are backed with evidence. He then implored all those who believe their rights had been violated by any NAF personnel not to shy away from reporting such alleged infractions, with credible evidence, while giving the NAF sufficient time to investigate and deal with such matters in accordance with statutory provisions. Earlier in his welcome address, the Chief of Administration at NAF Headquarters, AVM Ibrahim Yahaya, said that Maiduguri was specifically chosen as venue for the 2018 NAF Legal Conference to afford all operational commanders in the Northeast the opportunity to attend the Conference along with their colleagues and legal officers from other units. He said, apart from improving their knowledge base, the Conference would enable them further review their operational processes in line with local and international laws. Meanwhile, according to the Deputy Director of Legal Services at HQ NAF, Group Captain Sanda Jika, the Conference was aimed at sustaining excellence and professionalism in the discharge of legal duties in the NAF. Consequently, he specially thanked the CAS for providing the needed guidance and enabling environment for the Conference to hold. While in Maiduguri, the CAS seized the opportunity to commission three projects that were recently completed in the Base. These included two blocks of 6 x 2 bedroom flats and a block of 10 x one bedroom flats for officers, both of which were fully furnished. Also commissioned was a newly built mini-supermarket, which when fully stocked, would obviate the need for personnel to leave the Base to buy provisions and other essential items. The CAS promised to provide take-off grant to serve as revolving loan for stocking of the supermarket. In response, the Air Task Force (ATF) Commander, AVM Idi Lubo, conveyed the appreciation of the officers and men of the ATF to the CAS for his resolve to improve the working conditions of NAF personnel serving in Operation LAFIYA DOLE. He said this had significantly improved the ATF’s ability to effectively perform its task. OLATOKUNBO ADESANYA Air Vice Marshal Director of Public Relations and Information Nigerian Air Force

jln115:So where will the money budgeted and approved for two years wil go to ? The DOD budget for light and medium aircraft was a proposal that was not approved and did not show in the airforce budget that a kobo was paid for. In the case of the jf 17 for two consecutive years it as appeared as "procurement of 3 new units of jf17" not part payment on the following year. I think the delay is with the Pakistani manufacturing line, had it being we are buying from China we might have gotten part of the jf17 jets by now. |
