COMMANDANT AFCSC PAYS COURTESY CALL ON CAS, SOLICITS SUSTAINED NAF SUPPORT

The newly appointed Commandant of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC), Jaji, Air Vice Marshal Lawal Alao, on 24 January 2018, paid a courtesy call on the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, who is a member of the Governing Board of the College. The Commandant, who assumed office recently, used the maiden visit to appreciate the constant support of the NAF, particularly in the area of airlift of students of the institution during study tours to other African countries and within Nigeria. He then solicited for more support from the NAF in the areas of infrastructural development, amongst others.

In his response, the CAS commended the renewed vigor of the College towards enthroning qualitative training for officers and men of the Armed Forces of Nigeria. This move, he noted, is very vital to ending the security challenges currently confronting the country. The CAS advised the College to integrate more of its programmes and exercise scenarios to reflect the current Internal Security realities in the country. Air Marshal Sadique also reiterated the need for the College to expose students from the various Services to the intricacies and peculiarities of sister Services so as to be abreast of the strengths and weaknesses of each Service. According to him, this would no doubt go a long way in ensuring the success of future joint operations.

It would be recalled that AVM Alao was the Chief of Administration at the NAF Headquarters before his appointment as the Commandant of AFCSC.

NIGERIAN AIR FORCE NEUTRALISES BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS, PROVIDES CLOSE AIR SUPPORT FOR CAPTURE OF INSURGENTS’ LOCATION

Nigerian Air Force (NAF) fighter aircraft, on 25 January 2018, successfully neutralized several Boko Haram Terrorists (BHTs), who were poised to interfere with ongoing operations in the Sambisa general area. A NAF Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platform had sighted several BHTs on vehicles and gun trucks, which were carefully concealed in a forested area. Consequently, three NAF fighter aircraft were detailed to provide Close Air Support to own surface forces, which also engaged the insurgents. The fighter aircraft launched a bomb attack on the insurgents’ defensive positions while another wave of bomb attacks was launched at the insurgents’ gun trucks and vehicles, causing one them to go up in flames. Thereafter, one of the aircraft strafed a fleeing BHTs vehicle with rockets, destroying the gun truck in the process. The NAF aircraft's mission destroyed not only the vehicles but also the workshop previously used by the insurgents to repair and retrofit their vehicles and equipment.

NAF TRAINS PERSONNEL ON NEWLY ACQUIRED HIGH-TECH MEDICAL EQUIPMENT

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) recently commenced a 5-day hands-on application and upgrading training for selected medical personnel as part of its capacity building efforts to ensure adequate maintenance and serviceability of newly acquired state-of-the-art medical facilities. The training, which would provide participants with the requisite expertise in the proper handling of the equipment to avoid incessant breakdown, ends today, 26 January 2018. The equipment include Digital X-ray Machines, Fluoroscope, Digitizer, Mammography, Picture Archival and Communication System (PACS), CT Scan Machine and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and are already in use in various NAF hospitals across the country.

Participants, who were drawn from various NAF medical facilities across the country, comprise 9 Radiographers, 6 Biomedical Technicians and 2 Radiologists. The training is being conducted at 461 NAF Hospital, Kaduna by seasoned resource persons and facilitators in conjunction with in-house NAF specialists. At the end of the training, participants would have been adequately equipped with the technical know-how to handle various medical equipment on the NAF inventory. Already, 2 Biomedical engineers have completed their one-year mandatory training on high-tech in Lagos while another is currently on going.

The idea behind the training is to ensure the durability of the very expensive NAF medical equipment, most of which were recently acquired. It is expected that this would further enhance the provision of adequate medical services in the NAF, as a way of sustaining the high morale of personnel and improving Civil-Military Relations in NAF host communities.
