joseph1013: Exclusive: Awoniyi Speaks with FIFA.com, Sets Sight on a Daring Double
https://img.fifa.com/mm/photo/tournament/competition/02/22/11/78/2221178_full-lnd.jpg
“I have six A's, two B's and a C at O-levels. My best result was in physics. I hope at some point in my life I will major in mechanical engineering.”
Unusual words to read on a football site, but Nigeria's Taiwo Awoniyi is a special young player. Stereotypically, footballers are not considered to be particularly academically inclined, focusing on the pursuit of a sporting dream rather than scholarly achievements. Awoniyi is trying to juggle both, and it seems probable that his studies will have to be placed on the back burner as his footballing career is likely to take off.
Although still a few months short of his 18th birthday, Awoniyi is already a world champion - having played in all seven games as Nigeria won the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2013 - and this year he helped the Nigerians to a continental title at the CAF U-20 Championship. Later this month, he will be in New Zealand as a member of the Flying Eagles squad that is hoping to win a first-ever global title at this age group for the west African country.
Good performances at every step of the way have put him on the radar of a number of big clubs, both in Europe and north Africa, but it is not something that he is focused on at the moment. “I am focusing on the task ahead," he said. "I’m still a free player, but I hope my future will be decided before the World Cup.”
High expectations Awoniyi started playing at school before joining the United Academy in Kwara State. He later moved to Imperial Soccer Academy and thereafter joined the Nigeria U-15, then U-17 and now the U-20 team, with whom he will be playing at the World Cup. “With the preparations we have put in, we want to be world champions in New Zealand. Every game will be a cup final for us,” he says.
The Flying Eagles have been drawn into a tough group with five-time champions Brazil, Hungary and Korea DPR. Awoniyi said the players did not know much about the teams they would be facing. “We are yet to watch any videos of our opponents, but our coaches have concentrated fully on preparing us for whatever challenges we will come across. We are ready.”
Surprisingly, the striker, who is considered a predator with an eye for goal, says that their greatest strength is not what they are capable of on the field. “Our biggest strength is outside the pitch of play. It is the unity among the players. We are a big, happy family. On a personal level, scoring goals comes naturally to me. I also hold the ball up-front and try and bring my team-mates into the attack. I play for the team as well.”
Nigeria has won the FIFA U-17 World Cup more often than any other country (four times), but has fallen short at the U-20 level, twice losing the final and once finishing third. “I think that is because we need continuity in the various national teams," said Awoniyi. "I believe if there is continuity, as is the case with us now, from U-17s to U-20s, we can change all that. We are very hopeful that we will be able to change it this year.”
Winning the U-17 World Cup has been the highlight of Awoniyi's career thus far. “It changed the lives of most of us, many got clubs abroad and changed the lives of our families. I was able to build a house for myself, like most of the other players in the team.”
Awoniyi is, of course, hoping for another life-changing experience in New Zealand, but failing there is not something which worries him greatly. “Football is unpredictable. We are African champions and we want to prove ourselves again at the World Cup. I don’t want to think of failure in New Zealand because I believe in this team.” Chei!!! Awoniyi has built a house at dat age? Football is anoda kind of money rituals. He's an outstanding person to combine both academics nd sports,I once tried dat in my 100L days and my CGPA lamented |

koice: Some of my predictions came true.
-Undertaker bowed out in grand style with his iconic tombstone in full effect. -John Cena crushed Rusev with a backbreaking FU. -Triple H usurped Sting with the help of a certain Sledge hammer. -Randy Orton pinned Seth Rollins.
All this came to pass just like I said it would, but what I didn't see coming was Seth cashing in his Money in the bank when both Roman and Lesnar were all but spent, and outrightly stealing the spotlight from both main eventers. Wow! Just wow! What a sneaky way to become a champion. The kind of opportunistic move the R rated superstar, Edge immortalized more than ones in his prime.
-Wasn't particularly interested in the Divas match, but I was glad that the duo of AJ Lee and Paige won those talentless Bella twins. This is one match I was glad I got the prediction wrong. -Daniel Bryan is now the new Intercontinental Champion. Unfortunately, I missed the ladder match due to some technical issues, but it's all good. -Big Show dominated the Battle Royal from start to finish. Cesaro tried to eliminate him and failed, Ryback tried and failed, Big E tried and failed, Kofi Kingston tried and failed, Mizdow tried and failed. The big guy refused to get eliminated and eventually won all with authority. Well deserved too. -Cesaro and Tyson Kidd successfully retained their titles in the kickoff event, a fatal 4 way World Tag Team Championship.
All in all, it was spectacular affair. Wrestlemania 31 was a resounding Success. Still can't get it out of my mind dat undertaker undefeated streak was ended by brock last year, I watch wrestlemania because of d streak...... Bad for business |

daveP: bigB!!! Im good o.
Seems The Undertaker enjoyed his visit to the dubai sheiks. He has a large followership there. So also Cena. Not to happy that Triple H and not the "Deadman", is fighting Sting. Its simple, Wyatt is losing.
Cena vs Rusev. If Cena loses this match, then i think his era is over and wwe would lose its taste. He's been losing wrestlemania matches asif its no big deal.
Reigns vs Lesnar- hmm. Aerially, i give it to Reigns. Lesnar is weak from aerial attacks. But equally reigns would chop 3 F-5s at least. Unless he has a good counter-plan.
Personally, i want Swagger back to full focus. And Cesaro can equally be showered the same.
The ladies' own is dead. No more Natalya or The Glamazon(i love that lady, a pity Edge is enjoying her as wife)
AJ Lee, Paige is trying, but..... Its jst dry. Need new real and maybe stop the script acting for a month to revive the women's part.
Where's RaphaellaDD and vosquare? Raphaella has gone d way undertaker went after I destroyed and ended her winning streak here, probably still working on her comeback..... Vosquare still dey. |

TV/Movies › Re: The Shows On The CW Suck So Bad. by bigblangston: 5:31pm On Feb 25, 2015 |
cao: Too tired to read through everything. The CW is the combination of The WB & UPN. Reba, Smallville & Supernatural came from The WB & All of Us, Girlfriends, Veronica Mars, Everybody Hates Chris & The Game (a spinoff of Girlfriends) came from UPN. The CW messed up Girlfriends by abruptly stopping its production during its first CW season and then promptly cancelled it for no reason and then renewed the sub-par The Game, then dealt with it later. I'll not even attempt to explain the 419-ness that made them drop a fantastic show like Veronica Mars and pick up the questionable All of Us.
Smallville lost all its umph and became the show that would never end. Supernatural is still brilliant, it still brings in the ladies and it does not take itself seriously. Although, its creator wanted the show to end at season 5 (he originally had a vision for three seasons, but extended it to 5), but The CW had other plans. Fortunately for The CW, the writers who work on the show understand the characters, hence why it's still able to thrive without its creator's hands (he merely consults for the show now). The problem with The CW is they have this set demo in their head and they'll keep pandering to it. It's why when they've got decent shows like Nikita, it will be advertised as an aesthetically pleasing show, instead of an actually compelling spy-fi action show.
Unlike the other networks, The CW has no original programming for Sunday, so they tried to create one with a company called Media Rights Capital (MRC), well that one failed spectacularly, I was a fan of Valentine though - I'm a fan of Greek myth & Jaime Murray (she always looks like she's enjoying herself no matter what role she plays). If I remember correctly the CW messed up with advertising the MRC shows.
Reaper is another show that had so much potential, but apparently no one wanted to watch it on The CW. A show about a slacker, who discovers on his 21st birthday that his parents sold his soul to the devil (played with relish by Ray Wise), he now had to catch souls that have escaped from hell. Plus, the local DMV really is a portal to hell (apparently Americans believe the DMV actually is hell). Don't even get me started on how they messed up Aliens in America, this was another show with so much potential, they killed the heck out of it. It was too good a show for The CW, it would have thrived in ABC Family.
The thing is folks hear something is on The CW their instinct is to run away very quickly in the other direction. Although, the show sometimes doesn't help itself, I ploughed through Beauty & the Beast until it finally got interesting. Seriously, the narration alone almost put me off, I used to skip that shtako with the quickness. Maybe I'm just easy to please and very forgiving when it comes The CW. I'm very sure u r nt a nigerian or possibly u neva lived in nigeria...and I thought I ve watched much shows than anyone, nepa has really downgraded my shine..... Abc and amc all d way |

Debroslink: Is this not one of the reasons CM Punk left for UFC? This week, CM Punk announced that he was signing with Ultimate Fighting Championship, confirming rumors that had circulated for months. Though the details are not entirely clear yet, UFC President Dana White said CM Punk is likely to move along carefully in his transition from the WWE to MMA. “He wanted to fight here. He wanted to give it a shot, so we gave him an opportunity,” White said. “It’s not like Brock Lesnar. We’re not going to throw the kitchen sink at him. Lesnar had a wrestling background. (CM Punk) going to fight a guy who is 1-0, 1-1, 2-1 — something like that.” While it wasn’t exactly a secret that CM Punk was planning to move into MMA, he may have had some extra motivation for the timing of his official announcement. The wrestler has been talking more about his rift with the WWE and Vince McMahon, including calling out the timing of his official firing and McMahon’s seemingly insincere apology. CM Punk left the WWE after the 2014 Royal Rumble, a departure he said was due to a combination of mounting injuries and frustration over his character’s creative direction. Vince McMahon suspended Punk for two months and later terminated the wrestler’s contract — on his wedding day. “The day of my wedding (to WWE Diva AJ Lee) I got a FedEx in the mail. It was my termination papers,” CM Punk said. “I was fired. I was fired on my wedding day. Very calculated, very deliberate. As much as I chuckled at it and didn’t let it affect my day, I was like once again, you pushed too f—–g far. You pushed the wrong guy.” Vince McMahon tried to offer an apology, saying on “Stone Cold” Steve Austin’s podcast that CM Punk wasn’t supposed to get his walking papers on his wedding day. “I hope that one day, we’ll be able to get back together soon,” McMahon said. But on a recent Colt Cabana Art of Wresting podcast, released on Thursday, CM Punk wasn’t interested in accepting the apology. “It’s way too f—ing early, I have no interest in f—ing going back,” Punk said. “The difference in my appearance, my mental stability, everything across the board, now from 9 or 10 months ago, is so drastically different.” Many believe the half-hearted apology from Vince McMahon may have hastened CM Punk’s decision to join UFC and furthered the odds that he could one day re-unite with WWE. #Copied# |

koice: I miss the good old days of the attitude era when WWE (WWF back then) used to be all about uncensored and tantalizing bloody feuds, hardcore showdowns between superstars, not the watered down, mellowed out PG crap of nowadays.
I miss the explosive entrance of Stone Cold Steve Austin and his antics. I miss the charisma of the people's champion - The Rock. The arrogance of the American Badáss - The Undertaker. The sinister presence of the Big Red Machine - Kane. I miss Matt Hardy and his Brother Jeff. I miss lita. I miss Trish Stratus. I miss Victoria. I miss Divas Steel cage matches. I miss the bloody fights. The epic feuds. The sheer thugly of sledge hammer welding Triple H. I miss Bill Goldberg, most especially how he jackhammers opponents double his size.
