The Super Eagles really tried their best. I’m concerned with the name we will give this thread now that AFCON 2019 will soon be over and continue with deliberations concerning the Super Eagles.

Pellegrini was at Villareal. Took over the team when they got promoted and led them to the Champions league semi finals where they crashed out to Arsenal after Roman Riquelme missed a penalty that would have taken them to the finals against Barcelona. He had Senna, Sorin, Riquelme, Carzola, Forlan in that team.

Coached Malaga. When he took over them, they were number 20 on the table. When he was done with them, they reached the semi finals of the Champions league and his best work was with Isco.

I have been reading your debate with Mikael since yesterday and it has been so interesting so far, but there is one thing I need to correct is that Riquelme missed a penalty that would have taken villareal to the finals which is totally untrue.

Arsenal won the first leg by a lone goal and that was the the year Jens Lehman was in top form. Riquelme’s penalty would have given hope for villareal to get to the finals by dragging Arsenal Fc to extra time or penalty shootouts or even a second goal before stoppage would have ensured the passage of villareal into the finals not that penalty Riquelme missed as you claimed, you have been going about that Riquelme penalty claim for long but I just decided to correct it. Keep up the good work Joe. Chriskels! I hail you from this side

Only if we can we have this kind of list in our National Assembly where we have a minority leader that his/her words don’t carry much weight all because he’s part of a minority sect in the house. What a balanced committee if you tell me, equal number of people on the Republicans ,Democrats and Liberals.

My guy I know you know football and this is the time to tell ourselves the truth.

The rising of Enyeama was like a magic he came in and stole the show just one cap to WC meaning he was giving the opportunity at the right time.

My university coach was the goalkeeper trainer for Eagles when Enyeama was discovered. My varsity coach said he took him just 20 mins to tell Onigbinde that this guy is WC bound.

He said as at that time Enyeama was better than Shorunmu but they are not ready to take the risk but the risk was taken when Shorunmu fumbled against Sweden. My varsity coach went to Onigbinde that Enyeama must be in goal against England.

Let me give you brief history of Nigeria goalkeepers, prior to 1980 nations cup, Emmanuel Okala was the first choice but when Father Tiko came and saw that Okala has passed his prime,he took a decision and threw in Best Ogedegbe as number 1.a very good decision.

At afcon 84 we have experience Patrick Okala the younger brother of Emma but Onigbinde stick with young Peter Rufai though Rufai missed the Afcon final due to injury and we dearly paid for it cos Patrick was in goal.

Let me jump it and this one w be so confusing cos a lot w not agreed with me but it's a fact.Peter Rufai at US 94 has passed his prime but find his way into the team due to fans pressure at the expense of in form Deportivo LA coruna Wilfred Agbonavbare who kept most of Nigeria qualifications matches in a spectacular way, this guy was dropped to the bench for Dodo Mayana. At Afcon 94 anybody that watched semi final and final can testify,Rufai was exposed but Westerhoff still stick with Rufai.

So sometime we don't need experience keeper to do it but the best to be in goal.

Am one of the apostle of calling Enyeama back but watching Uzoho against Girona changed my mind,he has what it takes to be number 1,the height is there, reflex, confidence what else again, see him against Argentina tells a lot, if experience cannot carry Ezenwa and Akpeyi then to hell with experience.

Enyeama is out for 6months and that should tell you a lot, some keeper w come back better but some we struggle to form,so what are the assurance that we w see better Enyeama.

Apart from football reason, you made a valid point,w the recalling of Enyeama not destroy the high and lovable spirit in camp.
Nice trip down Memory Lane but I disagree on the form of Wilfred Agboni(basket) that time, he was actually given that epithet for a reason which is obvious. I can remember he conceded 6 goals in a LA liga game I think against Deportivo LA coruna where some argentines ply their trade. The argentines mocked the late agbonavabre and they wished he would be in goal against them so as to continue the onslaught. Dudu mayanna passed his prime in 94? I don't think so bro.

I expect a professional game from the Super Eagles. Hopefully Genort Rohr will fix our now famous first 10-20 minutes lethargy.

This time around I expect us to start on the front foot, playing sensible football.

I expect the Zambians to show resilience in certain phases but ultimately I expect them to crack in the second half. Being a young side, they are bound to make a few errors in the second half. The likes of Kelechi and Iwobi will have a lot of fun coming into the fray in the second half when the Zambians are considerably gassed out.
I don't think that slow start to a game by the eagles can be stopped anytime soon, in fact it has been ingrained into all our national football team be it female football or Age grade teams, it's now a routine or better put CULTURE to start like that.

But I'm expecting a good game with a 4-2-3-1 game plan

That username just surfaced and exhibited one of the Nerd's habit, so don't be surprised that was Nerd in a different moniker. Nigga always feel he is better than everyone and that everybody is jealous of his achievements. If u were here when he had a fight with da Bigblangston, u would understand this better. This guy (Nerd) went as far as calling Blangston a low life riff raff who was jealous of his achievements as a youngster. A guy above 25 still called himself a youngster? was the question and correction from one of the thread members. He feels he has better career than everyone else whereas he doesn't have the slightest idea what each and everyone of us does for a living neither does he know our achievements in life. Just because we lot don't come here reeling out our achievements in life like he does, doesn't make us underachievers. Throughout my stay here, I have noticed one thing about him... Nigga is so full of himself and he has no regards whatsoever for whoever has a different opinion from his. He always wants everything to go his way. He is too emotional and saucy, reason he gets into quarrels more often than not, Safari had same trait (emotional and saucy) but turned a new live after the invasion some months ago. Seriously, if that guy doesn't change his way, he would have more enemies than friends even in real life.

He fought Blangston, he fought da Forgiveness and now this new dude and...counting. Who else gets into fights like he does? Too much reading of the book called "the secret of power" He ain't no kid no more but he is too puerile for my liking.

But above all, guy is a great analyst and knows the game inside out. But his attitude remains his undoing.
Lol... Dr. Chriskels still remembered that feud. when he called me a low life riff raff, I wanted to tell him who I really was but I thought within me "who my introduction go epp". I can remember vividly from his rebuttal that he said I call mickael2 as Dr. Mikael2 and others too but I don't reckon him as such, then I discovered he felt hurt by me not recognizing him as such. I know icon4s to be a geologist, I have followed his moniker for long but he doesn't know and I called him a doctor in one of my interactions with him but he tacitly evaded the title telling me he is not one then but very soon he will be, that's what I call humility and it was one of the things I remembered that I refrained from telling him who I was. Even komekn still keeps his identity(I'm about to unmask him) and we still respect him and other notable monikers here. I have been monitoring safarigirl's post since 2013 where I was privileged to know that she was a law student in uniabuja but she doesn't come here to show it in our faces.

Let's just sweep all what might have happened under the rug and let's move on. Thesupernerd is a great guy, I am sure he has learned some important things from what has happened.

TheSuperNerd has no right to open another thread. This is the lowest he can go because the dynamics of this thread goes back to years. He is trying to kill the sequence of the thread, which is very wrong.

I will not lie, I am highly disappointed in him. What is so difficult in coming back.

Imagine me running to create another thread when someone says*I must be sharing a bed with Guardiola (Wa Lai that one pained me) or when people talk of drills*.

Banters happen. One went to far. Having a tough skin and control is part of what has kept this thread civil.

Or, does he think there will be no fallouts on his golden thread.

Please, let us get back to football. Like when Onyekuru will score a hattrick for Anderlecht.

Nacho will come good. People should relax. What matters is how hard he is working to get in the team. As long as he is working hard and remains focused, it will click for him soon.

Keep in mind, Nacho is not yet fit and also is not a good fit for the system. He needs time to adjust.
The way you come up with excuses for Kele boy is shocking, saying he's not a good fit for leceister system is like you are indirectly playing down his quality has a player that can't adapt to any situation or football pattern he sees himself. Was Bolton wanderers playing the one - two football of arsenal before Wilshere burst into world class status? was Daniel Sturridge playing Chelsea type of football at Bolton.

Even the type of football you said he is used to at Manchester City, he still finds himself as a drilling mechanism for the first eleven players at Man City, so what are you proposing for Kele boy, I'm sure you still want him to be a training material at City with all these he doesn't fit a leceister system you are talking about.

This is the time for Kelechi to rise from the ashes like a Phoenix and show us he's the man and by making excuses for him downplays his ability

Go and check the goals Sane scored in the last two games and check all his goals in Schalke, you will see the improvement in class.

The Sane in Manchester City today is not a 7-8 goals in 33 games kind of player. He is more lethal and more dangerous than that.

Gerrit?
He has really transformed under Pep Guardiola that he has played 31 Epl games under Pep Guardiola since 2016 and bagged 7 goals in total, if I happen to use his last season stat when he was at schalke and compare it with all the EPL games he played under Pep, you will agree with me that Sane stalled his development which same can be said about Kele boy, he turned a potential world beater into a drilling machine but I'm sure you won't agree

I disagree with the idea that Pep Guardiola was bad for Iheanacho. He was good for Nacho but a lot of people are trapped in the playing time as the only development means. We are seeing the transformation of Sane taking place without regular playing time. Taking his chance with a brace, coming off the bench. One of the goals a stunner. Followed it up with a start in the league cup game against West Brom. One of the goals a beauty.

There is loads of development behind the scenes. That was what I was interested in. From day one, I pointed that I have no problem with Iheanacho benching. I never did. What I wanted was the tactical and lifestyle training. These are things that can not be learnt on the training pitch.
Transformation of Sane? Sane had been hot and outstanding before he came to the EPL, his last season with schalke 04, he played 33 games and scored 7-8 goals and he was even invited and played for the national team before he signed the dotted lines for Manchester City, I wonder what you are trying to prove here maybe you are trying to say that it was Guardiola that made him know how to play. Anyway, I'm expecting you to say it was pep who transformed Aguero in knowing how to score.

My ratings going by my personal observations

Ezenwa : a commanding display by the glovesman. Caught everything that came his way with abit of showmanship. A very solid performance by Ezenwa, although he was well protected by the midfield and defense but still did his job.
However, Ezenwa being Ezenwa as usual was too playful. His penchant to play while on duty is one of the reasons why I don't fancy his style. Kudos all the same. 9/10

Shehu: A solid display by the right back. Unlike the previous game against South Africa, he came to the party today. Combined well with Moses Simon and guarded his part of the pitch. I can't recall a cross coming in from his flank.
Solid! 7.5/10

Elderson : Steady performance by the left back. Obviously doesn't have the verve and energy to provide an outlet while the team attacked however, he did his job and totally marked out Bassogog, which was key to shoting down the Lions (cubs) attacks. 7.0/10

Ekong : Did nothing flashy. Was just solid and went about his job. However, he needs to improve on his ball distribution. He sent many passes astray in the first half. 7.5/10

Balogun : Did a yo man's job all day long. What a player. With due respect to Mainz, Balogun deserves to play in a bigger stage. This was his best performance in the GWG Jersey. He was just unplayable today. Top top player. 9.9/10

Ndidi : Really struggled to assert himself in first 10-15 mins. But once he got going, he locked down the midfield. He wasn't going to be bullied into submission. A very brave performance by Wilfred Ndidi.
Rating :8/10

Onazi : As we have come to expect from Onazi, a very robust and highly spirited display. Always within 5yards to any potential danger or flash point. When Mikel was substituted like we saw against Algeria, he had the liberty to press higher up the pitch and this time around his high press earned him an assist.
Rating:8/10

Mikel Obi : My Mvp of the game. Mikel was the brains behind the dismantling of the African champions. Made an assist, got a goal and a even a pre assist for the 3rd goal. He totally dismantled the Camerounians. I wouldn't be surprised if he had 100% pass accuracy in this game. Incredible performance by Mikel.
Rating: 9.9/10

Moses Simon : Had fun running down the right flank against the sorry Camerounian left-back. Skinned the poor guy, time and time again. His combinations with Shehu, Ighalo and Ndidi was such a sight to behold. Should have capped off a fine evening performance with a goal.
However, on the back of this performance and the South African game, it's safe to say Ahmed Musa have been eased out of the Super Eagles first 11 by Simon. Kudos Simon! Bravo!
Ratings :9.0/10

Moses Victor : As usual was the teams live wire. Relentless I'm attack and solid when defending. A nightmare to play against. He played like a possessed man.
But for better decision making, he could have easily got himself a hattrick today.
Rating: 9.0/10

Odion Ighalo :Being the first player to hit camp, his hunger wasn't in doubt at all. From the first whistle, he hustled, harassed and hassled the Camerounians all night long. He held the ball up well, imposed himself and dominated Tekei and co in the physical battle. Brought much needed speed, skills and physicality to the front line. Refreshing performance by Mr Ighalo. Opened the floodgates with a well taken goal. I hope the physios stitch him up in time for the return leg.
Rating: 8.8/10

Agu : Recycled the ball well. Nothing spectacular.
Rating :5.0/10

Kelechi : Played the role of a sub well. Nicely linked up with Moses a couple of times. Took his goal well. 8.0/10

Musa: The game was already buried before he came in.
5.0/10
Odion Ighalo should be 9.9,the player never put any foot wrong, he showed great power to outmuscle his opponent and great technique to put the ball in the net. Ighalo actually justified your reason on the big player thingy despite the fact that some didn't give him a chance, some even went to the extent of condemning him because of the league he plays. Great composure from the ajegunle guy.

I actually don't like the showmanship of Ezenwa today, though he did all that for a good course but he should be professional with his gestures to his opponents, it was as if he was disrespecting them by his occasional showmanship when he's with the ball. despite the fact Germany was whipping Brazil in the last World Cup, they were professional with it

Iheanacho.

I have to start on a bad note. Looks overweight to me. I wonder if he is eating right and training hard. Nacho needs to understand that a lot of expectations rest in him. I hope he takes his career seriously. His first love should be football. It has brought him fame, success and great opportunities. He needs to show football loyalty and love.

Too early to rely just on his talent. It is time to move beyond positioning and finishing. Nacho needs to work harder on the training pitch and eat right. Speed and stamina is a big part of top class finishers.

Good side of today was his awareness in working with his teammates. That was nice to see. Made nice runs but could not deal with the pace of the Camerounians. Pressed well but lacked the stamina to press for long length with intensity.

Needs to work on his tricks. A big part of dealing with pressure.

However, the talent showed with his decision making, positioning, awareness, intelligence to drop deep and support build up. Sad Moses did not return the pass instead of going for the cheap.

Capped an okay performance with a well taking goal.
Can we attribute his overweight to his departure from Pep Guardiola's drills at Man City?

[quote author=AndreTAyodeji post=59445427]Its as if you know my mind sir,i would definitely go with brains against cameroon than go with strength and physicality to match cameroon. No disrespect to Ighalo as he is on a terrific form but folks here have all but given him the no9 shirt just because he is in form not considering the difference between the chinese defenders that he has been scoring against and a very strong and physically imposing defenders he will face against cameroon. But i know he will get the nod ahead of a clinical nacho and a mobile and pacy kayode so lemme kukuma choose my team with him included. On the wings will be a forgoteen Sone Aluko and the Beast Victor Moses with Aluko dropping to the midfield when we are in possession or playing out from the back with Balogun, as his defence-splitting throughballs and nacho perfectly timed runs will be something cameroon can`t contain with that being one of their weaknesses which we can exploit as seen against Chile.Mikel and Ndidi marshalling the midfield with mikel playing more like a deep lying playmaker or box 2 box midfielder though he aint got the pace for a B2B midfielder but trust him to make up for that with his excellent positioning. My game=changing subs will be: The Workhorse Etebo to replace mikel,The pacy kayode to replace ighalo while The highly technical Iwobi will replace Aluko. You can see that even Nigeria have very good depths.[/quote

But ighalo is not the highest goal scorer in the Chinese league even he and hulk(more energetic and stronger than ighalo) are both tied on 11 goals in 20 games. Even Lavezzi is on 11 goals in China. Tevez is not finding it easy in China.

something tells me this EPL season will be the most exciting oh.
Man U by far must perform eh or people go laff them well. because na dem buy buy pass...
Chelsea only need to try to defend their title, and if they fail it wont be a big deal.
Arsenal na Arsenal as usual.
Liverpool always start well oh.. But will they sustain it.
of course Leicester City, we will hope they have another fairy tale run with our boys in the team.
City.. hmmmmm DRILLS

Though I'm an Arsenal fan but due to the fact that Icon4s told wenger not to sign any players apart from Lacasera, I am turning my attention to Leceister City. I will be happy the three Nigerians get enough playtime together and get deeper understanding of themselves in which will help the Super eagles to cross of the hurdles team blending. With these three players involvement week in week out for Leceister, it will be a great advantage for the super eagles team

Make una leave TheGoodJoe oh. @ bigblangston I can't wait for this drills talk to die down. Iheanacho was class in his own right when he joined City. And we will give the boy all the credits should he excel in Leicester.

But nothing wrong with saying Pep played a part in his development. In life even bad experiences make you stronger. If Iheanacho later comes back to say Pep helped him, let's accept it. If he says Pep almost killed his career, let's also accept it. So let's wait to hear from the horse' mouth.

Lol..i don leave am but truth to be told, I will miss Goodjoe talks about drills on KI. His drills talk always make me laugh every weekend, it got to a time I always look forward to every weekend to hear about DRILLS

Of what use is endless learning and no opportunity to showcase what one has learnt? Who wants to keep studying without putting the knowledge acquired to use?
Once again, the ultimate in every game is to score more goals than your opponent. However u achieve that is immaterial. If you like, use tongue to push the ball in the net. So long as it satnds as a goal and helps the cause of your team. End of story

Training methods in an age where football is now business is the least one should worry about. If i as a coach I am sure to get a goal or two every match from a player, why try to change or genetically modify him into something he is not? Suddenly, goals arent enough abi? The season is just a couple of days away. Man City had beta be beating every team they meet by as much as 6 nil. Otherwise, na dat time my own quarell go start! Because I go so yab whoever comes in here to speak guardiolanese here. They had beta win champions league join. At least. And to buttress their point for selling iheanacho, he had beta not score more that 10 goals in this comin season. Only then can Guardiola be vindicated. Bald buffoon!
It's a win-win situation for our man in blue font, if KI becomes explosive, a guardiolanese Bible will be opened on this thread about the tremendous work pep did on him. if he scores less than 7 goals, he will attribute it to KI not staying to learn from god Pep, didn't you see where he blames Pogba for not learning how to control midfield (I wonder how he came up with that assertion anyway)
