They should have used that to negotiate genuine separation if the southerners were indeed serious. That was the best opportunity, But they are only bluffing because they depend on the North.

I can’t wait to see all of you in northern schools and colleges and universities, in government services in the north, in the northern markets, in businesses, hotels, estates , spare parts , building materials and all. I can’t wait to see them move back to their enclaves. I can’t wait to see them move out of Abuja with their compensation for their properties. Northerners in the south will undergo the same movement of course.
That would be the time for the north to start a true development. Agriculture, mining, trade and education with partnerships around the world.
The southerners can come to the north on strict visas and with heavy taxation as they claim oil production before they destroy it. They can come and compete for the northern market with other nationals , Chinese and all. And north will make rigid and hard punishment especially for drug pushers and cyber crimes, fake drugs, prostitution and ritual murders you guys specialize in.
Please agree with me and we can team up and work for this separation which is long overdue. I’m looking for strong willed and authentic partners from both north and south. It will all be done in peace and in two years time we can have at least 2 separate countries. Restructuring will not help,- whatever that means.
