For the name issue, choose your own poison. Either you go through the stress of correcting the name at the bank, or you go through the stress of UKVI scrutiny. There's no easier way to go about it.
Personally, I would settle all gray areas before I submit my application for any visa.

For the statement, changing the bank details will freeze alot of things on hold for him and will involve reaching out to alot of places to correct. 28 days is minimum, as long as it is printed not earlier than 31 days from your biometric date. So yes, u can print on 15th or 16th, but to be used not later than 16 April.
Secondly, best advice for your friend is to change either of the passport or bank details, preferably bank details because it is way easier. Dont give UKVI reasons to over scrutinize your application.
