i strongly advice you leave the transmission oil as it is, except the gear has issues already. changing it is usually the beginning of your gear wahala, especially with typical nigerian mechanics and abro trans fluid. you can take care of other recommended stuff. |
I bought my first car in March 2011, a 2007 Accord. In December 2011, i drove home (Aba) for the first time from Lagos. Just after Benin bye-pass, an old man waved at me, signalling a problem with one of my right side wheels. I ignored him, but a few metres later, another man waved me in the same frantic motion. As a first time driver on that road, I had no inkling what was in store for me. I pulled over at an abandoned filling-station, walked around checking my tires only to find the right front tire oozing white smoke. It was also very hot. I panicked. Some children selling some stuff beside directed me to a "mechanic" some metres back. He checked & proclaimed that the shaft bearing on that wheel had disintegrated resulting in grease leaking onto the disc. He said I should better hurry otherwise the car will sleep over there or be towed back to Benin or Agbor. See gobe!! This car must get to Aba today o. People are waiting to see God's blessing in my life . I have to get to Aba in daylight so all my neighbours will see me arrive in style. I pleaded with him to help me in any possible way he could. He made some calls to a "spare parts dealer" in Benin who said it was 40k for both front bearings. I pleaded & pleaded for a reduction in price. Besides, it was almost 3pm. I never reach Asaba sef. After much persuasion which included pleading with the "seller" to have mercy on a fellow Ibo brother, we settled for 36k. In less than 10 minutes, the parts arrived. I had never seen a shaft bearing before so they could have shown me a bicycle bearing for all I cared. The "mechanic" & his boy fiddled around the wheels for a few minutes & I was declared good to go. Meanwhile, I knew I didnt have up to 36k on me but I just let them fix it before I told them I had only 30k on me. I promised to send the balance as soon as I get to Aba. After some fake resistance, he agreed and we exchanged numbers. He asked me to send the balance in recharge cards. Unfortunately, I arrived Aba quite late so I couldnt show off my ride till the next morning . I even called the punk when i arrived thanking him & pouring blessings on him for helping & trusting a stranger. The guy just said, "Abeg no forget to send my balance". The following day I sent 6k in recharge cards across to him as promised. On my way back to Lagos some days later, I even stopped to greet him. The bubble burst in Lagos when I narrated my ordeal to my mechanic. He said there was no way a shaft bearing could be replaced without completely removing the entire wheel assembly. I felt so stupid. He said at some point during my journey, a lubricant (grease or condemned oil) was poured onto my right front wheel. I figure this must have happened when I stopped over to eat at Benin. With high speed braking, the lubricant started smoking which is what I saw initially. Well, I have learnt my lessons & as an experienced driver on that route, they cant try such shit on me again. I still see them make such frantic pull-over gestures every time I drive past. i simply give them the finger. Once bitten, twice shy. |
did u deliberately omit one character from the VIN? or is that a genuine mistake? |

i was in the same dilemma early this year. i wanted either the 2009 murano (new shape) or the 2006-08 fx35. i ended up buying a 2008 fx35. bros, that ride is a machine. feels like u driving a sedan. the only thing iv changed are the front linkages and that can solely be blamed on lagos roads during this rainy season. aside that, just basic servicing with Total 9000. i still admire the murano every time i drive past, but i think i made a good choice. goodluck |
first try & fix the speedometer bros. nice ride..... |

FUEL RECOMMENDATION VQ35DE engine (fx35) INFINITI recommends the use of unleaded premium gasoline. If unleaded premium gasoline is not available, you may use unleaded regular gasoline, but you may notice a decrease in performance. VK45DE engine (fx45) Use unleaded premium gasoline only. If unleaded premium gasoline is not available, unleaded regular gasoline can be used but only under the following precautions: 1) Have the fuel tank filled only partially with unleaded regular gasoline, and fill up with unleaded premium gasoline as soon as possible. 2) Avoid full throttle driving and abrupt acceleration. However, for maximum vehicle performance, the use of unleaded premium gasoline is recommended. (copied from my fx35 user manual. guess there's more risk to engine damage when using non-premium fuel in fx45 than fx35) xerotop: I personally do not think there is any reason for picking a 35 over 45. |
like i stated earlier, i drive 2008 fx35. its a very reliable suv. the only problem i hv wt d ride is the front linkages. mayb i havnt been buyin originals cos they go bad lik evry 4 months. dis car is a beast on the road. it MOVES!!! i must warn you though, if you r fuel conscious, did isnt d ride 4 u. & also, i wont advic any1 to have it as an only car. im actually plannin to support it wt a smaller car, maybe a babyboy. overall, a good ride to own and show off on d highway. xerotop: am seriously considering PORTING from my childhood fantasies(BMW) to an infinity FX45. |

lagos reg vehicles have nationwide appeal while other states are assumed local. lemme explain. a lagos reg car sighted in sokoto or calabar does not draw as much attention as a nasarawa reg car sighted in owerri. you wil also come across as a JJC in any new town if you have a non-lagos reg vehicle. this is easily verifiable at police check-points. so if you will be drivin across the country, i advic u get a lagos reg. |
here's how i see both technologies: for the engine driven, the fan rotates as long as engine is running. to enable the engine reach optimal temp from a cold start, the thermostat remains closed. in this instance, the coolant is prevented from reaching the engine. when engine reaches optimal temp, thermo opens to allow coolant to circulate around engine to cool. however, for the electric fan, the fan does not start when engine is started. the "uncooled" coolant circulates from radiator to engine and back while the CTS monitors engine temp until optimal temp is attained; the fans switch on thereby "cooling" the already circulating coolant. at no point are both technologies mixed up. i have personally tried locating the thermostat in my 2007 Accord, until i sold it, i couldnt. now, im searching for the thermostat in my 2008 fx35, no luck yet. these car are both electric fan cooled. i stand corrected and willing to learn, always.... Siena: Because a thermostat is still fitted to an engine, regardless of the fact is has an electric fan. |
