InvestmentRe: List Of Fintechs That Bite The Dust Despite Huge Fundings From VC! by Bigkoko(op): 5:41am On May 28, 2024
Copia Global, an e-commerce platform and the parent company of Copia Kenya has entered administration, in what is another major hit to start ups funded by venture capitalists.

In its wake, in excess of 1,060 workers will be fired due to lack of new capital required for its operational sustainability, bringing to the fore the growing challenges being faced by entrepreneurs in the country.

The company that has been serving low and middle-income customers through a network of agent seeks to action organizational re-structuring to ensure the sustainability of its operation and or a possible shutting down of its operations.

Uncertain times ahead
In a notice dated May 16, 2024, the company’s CEO Tim Steel (pictured) termed the future of the company as uncertain and urged workers to undertake a one-month consultancy period.

“It is very likely that there will be a reduction of our workforce and it is possible that the payment of salaries could be at risk. The company is required – in compliance with the law -- to give all staff one month notice of potential redundancies and to undertake a one-month consultancy period with all potentially impacted staff,” Steel said in the letter.

The firm which has gobbled up in excess of Sh15.4 billion in seed capital was founded by Tracey Turner and Jonathan Lewis as a B2C e-commerce platform to serve Africa’s middle- and low-income African consumers.

The e-commerce company focuses on customers in rural areas that struggle to access the same goods and services in terms of choice, price value and reliability that similar consumers in urban areas or of higher income levels can access.

Some of the investors in Copia include Koa Labs, Goodwell Investments, German Investment Corporation (DEG), Perivoli Innovations,Lightrock, Zebu Investment Partners and U.S. International Development Finance Corporation.

Copia joins a growing group of financially crippled companies that have either shut down their operations in the country and or have restructured, sending hundreds of workers to desolation.

The backdrop of Copia’s current predicament is framed by its notable performance and funding history.

The company was established as a solution to serve mid- and low-income consumers in rural areas garnering attention for its innovative approach.

Growing list
With a network of over 50,000 local agents, the firm has served over 2 million consumers and fulfilled over 13 million orders, reflecting its penetration into underserved markets.

The company’s downfall joins a growing list of companies such as Twiga Foods and Kune Food that laid off all or a substantial part of their workforce amid losses and inability to raise additional capital.

With increased appetite for new taxes from business enterprises to facilitate payment of debts, development and recurrent expenditures, the number of young companies sent into the graveyard in the country may continue to increase this year.

The logistics sector in Kenya and globally continues to evolve, but in these closures, valuable lessons for both entrepreneurs and investors abound, emphasizing the need to navigate challenges carefully and maintain agility in the face of changing circumstances.

PoliticsRe: 2027; End Of The Road For Asiwaju As Key Northerners Won't Support Him! by Bigkoko(op): 6:49am On May 19, 2024
You're absolutely right..... It's said that it's best to keep quiet and be thought a wise man, than speak and clear all doubts. Asiwaju is the perfect example of this adage!

Prior to 2023, y'all lots spoke of how he's a city boy, a first class this or that, but I tell you he's a little better than an idi°t, to the extent that a small boyi boyi in Onitsha will fare better managing Nigeria than him!

Asiwaju has cleared all doubts! Even shame no let he appointees promote am!

Ofemannnu:
You lamented more than this before the general elections with every obstacle known in the way of Tinubu even Buhari and his cabal until the last minute when it dawned on Buhari That he is helpless against the jet-speed fast moving train of Tinubu and his team.
Obi,Atiku and their co horts will be crushed in 2027 again because a lot of people will rush and be happy to vote Tinubu In 2027 because of his performance in this first term.
PoliticsRe: 2027; End Of The Road For Asiwaju As Key Northerners Won't Support Him! by Bigkoko(op): 6:46am On May 19, 2024
For the sake of foolish irresponsible people who can vote domestic donkey when told to, the merger will work!

With Atiku comes Kwakwaso, Lamido, Sanusi and several other northern weights!

Asiwaju is toast come 2027.... Even if he appoints Aunt Remi as INEC chair, Asiwaju will still be thrown out in 2027...

ibechris:
If the hunger hasn't reset peoples head enough no one would get sense.

This merger must work before this country is destroyed completely.

See the way APC is looking for money up and down to the extent of borrowing from IMF,Afdb, pension fund and name it,and even raising tax just to get more without recourse to the population.
Politics2027; End Of The Road For Asiwaju As Key Northerners Won't Support Him! by Bigkoko(op): 5:53am On May 19, 2024
This is certainly the first time since 1999 when a sitting president attempted to destroy the economy through clueless incompetent decisions that is stressing the citizens in no mean measures. This also, is the first time a sitting president is forseening how the next election would play out even though he's yet to be on seat for one year!

Blame his cluelessness and incompetent employees for this. According to Africa's richest man, Dangote, Naira floating is one of the biggest mess, in lay man's word, foolishness yet of this Asiwaju Govt. Not done, ACF, fired another shot of how Asiwaju is destroying the gains of Buhari......my goodness.... Buhari gains? Yes, according to Rufai Oseni, a prominent OAP, Asiwaju is making Buhari look like a good leader!

Why won't all these fine gentleman complain? One, Dangote today is poorer, all thanks to Asiwaju cluelessness. Rufai feels less happy because he has now, far too many people to dash money or gifts now and then be they may not be as privileged as he is!

In other news, one of the Abido Shaker in the north, HE Atiku's Abubakar has signaled his wish to support HE Peter Obi for 2027. Amongst AA partners include Kwakwaso Rabiu, the strong man of Talakawas and current gate keeper of Kano state, Lamido, Sanusi and a host of others.

According to what we learned, a disenfranchised El Rufai, one of the people who fought to have Asiwaju in power is currently nursing his wounds with a war chest of $100M, planning on how to fight back and give Asiwaju a mortal wound in 2027....

Atiku Abubakar, the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the upcoming 2023 election, has revealed that he may extend his support to Peter Obi, his Labour Party counterpart from the previous election, in the 2027 election.

Currently engaged in merger talks with opposition political parties, Atiku expressed his willingness to back Obi if he is chosen by the party as their candidate.

This announcement comes after a meeting between Atiku and Obi, which has sparked speculation about a potential merger of opposition parties leading up to the 2027 general elections.

The move to align opposition parties in an effort to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming election has been confirmed by Atiku, who emphasized the possibility of merging to achieve a common goal.

If the new party decides to allocate the presidential ticket to the South-East region and selects Peter Obi, Atiku stated that he would not hesitate to support him.

Atiku further reiterated his commitment to abide by the party’s decision, as he had previously stated that he would not contest the presidential ticket if it was zoned to the South or South-East.

However, he did participate in the 2023 presidential ticket race as it was open to all party members.

After much disturbance, his friends decided to pool money together and take him out...not to Sheraton or Marriott, but to a local buka for a twisted mix of indomie and fried eggs, possibly with no glass of milk to shake down the mix...

Yet, he still has the audacity to support bad leadership and bad economic policies, year in, year out!

Soludo is hated because SE is used to low calibre leaders.

Orji Uzor Kalu, Theodore Orji, Ikpeazu... Peter Obi can't be janitors in any other region.
