2019: Middle Belt ’ll stick to Olawepo-Hashim, says Dan Suleiman

A MIDDLE Belt Forum leader, Air Commodore Dan Suleiman (retd), has said that the forum will stick to its earlier endorsement of the Peoples Trust (PT) presidential candidate, Mr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim.

Suleiman, who stated this at a meeting with members of the forum in Abuja, said he and a number of the forum’s members were not carried along in the adoption of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate former Vice President Atiku Abubakar by ethnic groups cutting across the North and South.

A faction of Pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, Northern Elders Forum (NEF), the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the Pan- Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) and the Middle Belt Forum had on Sunday announced the adoption of Atiku as candidate of the regions in the February 16 election.

But Suleiman, who addressed members of the Middle Belt Forum in Abuja, said the majority of the members were not carried along before the announcement.

He stated that the region was part of a broad-based approach towards arriving at a common candidate, but that the Middle Belt expected to be carried along before the other regions announced their adoption.

He added that since the emergence of Atiku as PDP candidate in October, a number of the ethnic nationality groups have been doing things differently.

“We in the Middle Belt shortlisted three candidates, Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, Dr. John Dara and Dr. Obadiah Malafia. We asked the three of them to meet and pick a single candidate, but they could not arrive at a single candidate. After that they asked you to help them pick a single candidate and we picked Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim here.

“If we will change that, the other regions should talk to us, ” he said.

He added that the Middle Belt expected support from the other regions, having supported the causes of the Southwest and other groups in the past.

According to him, since Atiku knows that he is a leader of the Middle Belt and he has not told him why the region should vote for him, he would abide by the earlier decision to adopt Olawepo-Hashim as candidate of the Middle Belt Forum.

Some of the youth leaders at the meeting expressed divergent views about the adoption of Atiku as the zone’s preferred candidate.

Some of them edged to stick to Olawepo-Hashim. But, some expressed the desire to vote for Atiku.

Olawepo-Hashim, who also attended the meeting, expressed shock that some leaders of the Middle Belt Forum, who attended the enlarged meeting where Atiku was adopted, failed to defend the choice earlier made by the Middle Belt Forum.

He said despite moves to force him out of the race, he would keep pushing for his election in a bid to liberate the Middle Belt.

He told the gathering that being a “self-funded” candidate, he has faced series of attacks by certain forces.

He insisted the he would keep the flag flying till the election day.

“Even though our collective resolve remains anybody but Buhari, we will not sell out your mandate; we will continue to push for the election as forcefully as we can and God willing, victory is assured,” he said.

PDP will not win a single seat in Kwara State- Survey

https://mrrightsng..com/2019/02/pdp-will-not-win-single-seat-in-kwara.html?m=1
- February 06, 2019

A survey conducted by leading Pro-Democracy group in Kwara State, Kwara Must Change (KMC) has indicated that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) may not, in the 2019 general election, win any seat in the home state of Nigeria’s Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki.

This is contrary to the assumptions of people outside Kwara State that have been projecting Kwara as a strong hold of the PDP.

The survey conducted by Kwara Must Change (KMC) about 2 weeks ago revealed that the Senate President will not return to the Senate and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) will lose the upcoming election in Kwara State with a very wide margin.

According to Kwara Must Change president, Abdurazaq Hamzat in a statement during the week, the survey was separately conducted for the 3 senatorial districts and the result shows that in Kwara Central, where senate President Bukola Saraki is running for senate for the 3rd term, the All Progressive Congress (APC) will win by 75%, leaving only 25% for the PDP.

Similarly, the survey also shows that in Kwara South, where sitting Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed is running for senate, the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate, Arc Lola Ashiru will coast home with a landslide victory by over 82%, while in Kwara North, APC’s Sadiq Umar will have the best victory of all by over 90%, compared to PDP’s 12% in Kwara South and 10% in Kwara North respectively.

Recall that during Kwara by election in 2018, Kwara Must Change also predicted victory for the APC based on its survey and the outcome of the by-election justify the credibility of its projection and it is believed that this latest survey, may to a great extent, reflect the outcome of the 2019 general election in Kwara State.

2019: Middle Belt denounce Atiku, stick to Olawepo-Hashim

A leader of the Middle Belt Forum, Air Commodore Dan Suleiman (Rtd) has said that the Forum will stick to its earlier endorsement of the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Trust (PT) for the 2019 election, Mr. GBENGA Olawepo-Hashim.

2019 Election : I Am Not Ready To Step Down ― Olawepo Hashim

THE Presidential candidate of People’s Trust (PT), Mr Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, on Tuesday, in Akure, Ondo state capital, dismissed the possibility of stepping down for any of the two leading candidates in the forthcoming Presidential election in the country.

Olawepo-Hashim who stated this while soliciting for votes from the people of the state in the forthcoming presidential election said the two political parties had been tested and failed to take the country to the promised land.

Olawepo-Hashim said, “Nigeria is a very interesting country, and I don’t know any country where other parties candidate are pressured to step down. I think its a coinage here because, in a multi-party democracy, nobody steps down, you win some seat and on the basis of this you can form a coalition based on the programme after the election”.

“The presidential election is not about party but about candidates and the future of this country and the two parties have failed in that regard. But we give hope that if we come in, Nigeria will be better”.

According to him, the two political parties should be held responsible for the current situation the nation found itself, saying there is hunger in the land and the people are angry.

He advised electorates to reject the APC and PDP and their candidates saying that they had failed the people of the country in the last twenty years through their unfriendly and anti-masses policies.

He, however, assured Nigerians of rapid economic development that will lift the masses out of abject poverty, with a promise to create jobs and make the environment conducive for businesses to flourish.

The presidential candidate of PT said his party has been working round the clock, fine-tuning its strategy in all states of the federation on how to wrestle power from the ruling APC, adding that PT had the highest number of representation in constituency nominations.

He expressed optimism of winning the election noting that more than 70 per cent of Nigerians voters have not decided who to vote for among the presidential candidates less than 11 days to the 2019 election.

He, however, expressed confidence that Buhari and Atiku would be defeated in the forthcoming election and said some few days to the election more than 70 per cent of the electorates are still wondering who they are going to vote for.

” They have been examined the candidates they are going to vote for and what these candidates promised to offer and among all the alternative parties, the PT is the biggest. But I can tell you that this election is still very open even though its ten days to the election

“This is one of the reasons I said if elected we will form a government of National unity which will accommodate the good people in the APC and PDP”

Olawepo-Hashim who was accompanied by his Campaign Director-General and former transport minister, Mr Habu Fari, said the country was too endowed with natural resources for the citizenry to be wallowing in poverty.

He vowed to introduce policies that would end insecurity and economic hardship if elected the president of the nation and called on eligible voters to secure their future by voting for his People’s Trust party in 2019 election.

The Director-General of PT Presidential campaign Council, Mr Habu Fari expressed delight that the people of Ondo state troop out en masse to receive Olawepo-Hashim, indicating that the people are ready to elect the third force which the PT candidate represented.

70% of Voters are undecided on 2019 polls - Olawepo-Hashim

......says no plan to step down for APC or PDP

The Presidential candidate of People’s Trust (PT), Mr Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, has urged Nigerians to support his candidacy for rapid economic development that will lift the masses out of abject poverty, saying 70% of Nigerians voters are yet to decide who to vote for among the presidential candidates less than 11 days to the 2019 election.

Similarly, Olawepo-Hashim said he had no plan to step down for either the APC's Muhammadu Buhari or Atiku Abubakar of the PDP, expressing the confidence that the two candidates are beatable with their parties' woeful performances since 1999.

The Presidential hopeful who spoke during campaign in Akure, the Ondo state capital to solicit votes of the people of the state, advised electorates to reject the two political parties that had failed them and the country in the last twenty years.

Mr Olawepo-Hashim who was accompanied by his Campaign Director-General and former transport minister, Mr Habu Fari, said the country was too endowed with natural resources for the citizenry to be wallowing in poverty and vowed to introduce policies that would end insecurity and economic hardship if elected the president of the nation on the sixteenth of this month.

He advised eligible voters to secure their future by voting for his people's trust party in 2019 election.

Olawepo-Hashim assured Nigerians, especially youths and graduates that he would create jobs and make the environment conducive for businesses to flourish.

The presidential candidate of PT said his party was fine-tuning its strategy in all states of the federation on how to wrestle power from the ruling APC, adding that PT had the highest number of representation in constituency nominations.

Olawepo-Hashim said "some few days to election more than 70 percent of the electorates are still wondering who they are going to vote for. They have been examine the candidates they are going to vote for and what these candidates promised to offer and among all the alternative parties, the PT is the biggest. But i can tell you that this election is still very open even though its ten days to the election".

"This is one of the reasons i said if elected we will form a government of National unity which will include the good people in the APC and PDP", he opined.

The PT presidential candidate however said he had no plan to step down for either the APC's Muhammadu Buhari or Atiku Abubakar of the PDP, or form coalition with the parties, expressing the confidence that the two candidates are beatable with their parties' woeful performances since 1999.

Olawepo-Hashim said, "Nigeria is a very interesting country, and i don't know any country where other parties candidate are pressured to step down. I think its a coinage here, because in a multi party democracy, nobody steps down, you win some seat and on the basis of this you can form coalition based on programme after the election".

"The presidential election is not about party but about candidates and the future of this country and the two parties have failed in that regard. But we give hope that if we come in, Nigeria will be better".

In a remark, the Director General of PT Presidential campaign Council, Mr Habu Fari expressed delight that the people of Ondo state troop out enmass to receive Olawepo-Hashim, indicating that the people are ready to elect the third force which the PT candidate represented.

Going close to the elections, how much of reception have you seen so far. You’ve gone to North West, gone to North Central, the Northeast and the South West. Just recently, the AD candidate stepped down for you in the South West. How much of enthusiasm do you see?

It’s phenomenal and now that we are going to start the flag off of our rallies, you will begin to see it demonstrated beyond small meetings. There is a lot of enthusiasm, especially among the common people. Elite and middle class people are very difficult to impress because they don’t easily take risks. They are thinking about the next appointment, where it will come from and therefore they are calculating what will happen. But the common people, they are not looking for appointments, they are not going to be commissioners or Ministers. So, that calculation is not their problem. When they see something that is good, they know it and they can support it and there is a lot of buying into that. Even some of the elite people who are very difficult to convince, they are also getting scared of being irrelevant, seeing as the PT is becoming a movement that is fast developing. If you follow the conversations online and you know that platform like this is where you have a lot of ordinary people have PVC. Everybody is there. The photographer is there. Mechanics are there. Hair dressers are there. They are not like Instagram and the other ones where they are a bit more elite based.
PoliticsRe: I’m On National Reconciliation Project –olawepo-hashim by bilms(op): 9:04am On Feb 05, 2019
For me, this is not just an ambition . It’s a national reconciliation project. It’s a project to rescue Nigeria and it is something that I have put my heart to, not just because I want to run for presidency . It’s something I have been doing for more than three decades, paying the price, taking risks. So it’s a continuation of that struggle. I’m different from those who just want to be President. It’s not about being President. It’s about how to rescue Nigeria and we must rescue Nigeria as it is now. It is not the time for small boy politics. It is time to build a broad national consensus to rescue the nation and this is what this is all about.

Before we started making all the consultations, we went to Kaduna and we met with the ACF. They said we are not endorsing anybody. Anybody that is a candidate from the North is all our candidate. You are all our candidates. That was a very good statement from the ACF. I said the North that we knew under Sardauna was the North that welcomed everybody and that was why Sir Kashim Ibrahim was elected to represent the Tiv people in the Northern Assembly. He was a Muslim, a Kanuri man and was elected by predominantly Christian society, which tells you about what the North was. We spoke and they were very happy. So, Nigeria right now does not just need a politician. Nigeria needs a statesman. Nigeria needs one who can mobilize the country for national reconciliation and development. Nigeria needs an inspirational leader that can bring the country back together again and defeat insurgency through negotiation and reconciliation. It’s not just going to be about police action. There are people who feel really bitter and they didn’t even see themselves as committing any crime. They believe that they are revenge against the Nigerian state. So, the style will be different. We are already building the national coalition and it is not a coalition of just parties who are looking to have seats in government. It’s more serious than that.

I’m On National Reconciliation Project –Olawepo-Hashim

Gbenga Olawepo- Hashim is the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Trust (PT), the party endorsed by a coalition of civil society organisations also known as the Third Force. In this interview with select newsmen, speaks on his chances and why Nigerians will prefer him as the best alternative to the candidates of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). TEMIDAYO AKINSUYI brings the excerpts:

Your base is seen as the North Central. The enthusiasm that you have painted that the party is going to be one of the first two, which other zones are you expecting the votes?

I think we will win the North Central for sure, by the grace of God. We will do well in South West. We will do well all over the North and we are getting our message to the South East and the South South. The South East and South South have a very peculiar problem and it is not about PT or APC. A lot of people feel a sense of huge injustice about Nigeria as a state from those regions and that’s the way politics have been defined for some time there. None of the two big parties can say that they have those zones for keep. Majority of the people in those zones are preoccupied more with other questions than even the 2019 elections. The urgent question that confront them is how do we find equity, how do we see that we are part of this? We are getting our message in and I believe that we have a pathway to victory in 2019, more than a number of people have even given us the chance for.

Are you scared by reports in some quarters that the February elections are already concluded and that that the results are known?

I’m not scared by all these noise that some people have already concluded the election. I’m not scared about that. We had only five parties when Abacha concluded his election by making sure that all the five available parties endorsed him. What was left was for him to be coroneted as President. But did he become President? He didn’t become President. So, it’s just that people forget things easily and some people have short memories. Nobody can play God in the affairs of Nigeria. My advice is that let us be responsible people and know that power is transient. Let us also know that we owe this country a responsibility to improve the situation in which we have found ourselves.

Talking about going round and talking to people, there is this impression that Nigeria is much more divided than any other time. What message do you tell the people while going across the country?

We were somewhere in the South East and we had an all-night quiet meeting and these people we met are people with deep roots in the east because these are patriots who have produced a lot of the people that you see on the scene today and a lot of people defer to them and who really bitter about the situation of Nigeria. Incidentally, I went with a team of my Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Jahleel Tafawa-Balewa and some of these people were talking about pains, why they are not really enthusiastic about Nigeria. They talked about pains which were of course very legitimate pains that had to be addressed. They were really bitter with Nigeria as a state. Then Balewa got up and said you people are talking about pains, my father was killed over allegations of corruption by some officers of a certain regional extraction. He never had a single property anywhere in the world, not talk about a bank account. He left nothing for us, and then my mother happen to be of the same parentage with Chief Ladoke Akintola, the same father, the same mother and Chief Ladoke Akintola, who by then was Premier of Western Region, was killed that same day Tafawa Balewa and Sardauna were killed. As an eight year old boy, I’ve borne this pain since I was told that my uncle died and my father died too. It was a double barrel tragedy for him. He said what pain are you talking about. It was very interesting to see and it was laboratory for me in testing hypothesis for national reconciliation and everyday calmed down. They we are ready to give you chance seeing where you are coming from and indeed you are very serious about this. Those are the quiet things I’ve been doing without the cameras.

And I asked them what Olawepo and Sowore will do to Buhari/Osinbajo in the South West

Has anyone seen George Moghalu in a crowd of supporters in the East?
IPOB did not register to vote and we know what the number of voters in the East is.

Omoyele Sowore is from the Southwest as Gbenga Toyosi Hashim Olawepo is.
They are still defiantly in the race.

So whose votes are really going to be shared?
Olawepo Hashim is not from the west. He is from the North. Kebbi State. Get your facts right.
