My mother is my god By Abdulrazaq O Hamzat My mother is my god My sister is my lord My wife is my love And my daugther is my trust. How dare me look down on my god? How dare me disrespect my lord? How dare me abuse my love? And how dare me violate my trust? Women are to me in four ways One- She is my creator-Mother who gave birth to me Two- She is my teacher- Sister who taught and guided me Three- She is my helper- wive, who complimented me Four- She is my blessing- Daughter whom i look unto as a source of joy How dare me look down on my creator (Mother) How dare me disrespect my teacher (sister) How dare me abuse my helper (wive) How dare me violate my source of joy (daughter) Women are sacred, they must be honoured women are special, they must be respected Women are precious, they must be loved Women give live, they must be protected. You may be angered by women, yes, you must be patient with women. You might be tempted to molest women, you must be crazy to act. No matter what she does to you, you have no right to touch her (she is your creator) Make a woman happy and you will be happier Make her sad and you will be sadder. Happy International Women's day. |

“Ó TÓ GÉ” IN KWARA!!! May I congratulate the “Ó TÓ GÉ” movement and indeed the entire good people of Kwara State on the successful ballot revolution during the National Assembly election held on February 23rd, 2019. I urge you to finish the job by voting massively for Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq as the next Governor of Kwara State on Saturday March 9, 2019. Abdulrahman is a reliable man, a good friend and brother. One of the trio of Shaibu Yaman and my goodself, who laid the foundation of the change movement, exactly 20 years ago. I endorse the platform, APC, which the “Ó TÓ GÉ” movement has chosen as the vehicle to free Kwara State in the 2019 election. I salute the efforts of Alhaji Lai Mohammed, who is currently providing leadership to the movement and other leaders such as Senator Suleiman Makanjuola Ajadi, Senator S.S. Ajibola, Professor Oba Abdulraheem, Alhaji Kunle Suleiman, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, Akogun Iyiola Oyedepo, and others too numerous to mention here. We should not also forget in a hurry the contributions of those who have fallen; great patriots like, H.E. Mohammed Alabi Lawal Omo ‘Morilewa Omo Laderin and General Abdulkareem Adisa rtd. The struggle in the next few days will be fierce. I urge no complacency. With hardwork, by the Grace of God, Victory is sure. VOTE ABDULRAHMAN ABDULRAZAQ! Signed: Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim.

Lagos before Nigeria By Abdulrazaq O Hamzat https://mrrightsng..com/2019/03/lagos-before-nigeria-by-abdulrazaq-o.html?m=1 More than 50 years before the creation of Nigeria as a united entity, Lagos is already a major centre of modern civilisation. Lagos history is rich in Yoruba tradition, trade and commerce, infrastructural development and cosmopolitanism." -EXTRACTED In the past few days, i have followed the unhealthy debate between easterners in Lagos and their host and i must say that such is really uncalled for. No tribe or race is an island of knowledge and civilisation. At one time or the other, each one of them contributed in one way or the other. While it is proper for every one to feel good about themselves and try as much as possible to amplify in a good way, their importance and contribution to the society they live in, it is also very crucial to take into account, the reality of other factors without attempting to ridicule the contribution of others. I therefore advise all those joining the discuss to thread with caution and avoid things that are capable of setting our people apart rather than bringing them together. Let it clear that every resident of Lagos and every part of Nigeria deserves to be accorded due regard in the place they live. They deserve the respect accorded to them by the laws of the land and we should never interfere when they exercise their rights, because only in an atmosphere of peace and respect will friendship strive. Having stated the above, let's put some facts to the ground 1. Historically, before the amalgamation of Nigeria in 1914, communication technology which is a major signifier of civilization in the world had been existing in Lagos for almost 75years. By 1856, Cable and Wireless Company of the UK had commissioned a submarine cable link between Lagos and London and in 1851 a post office was established in Lagos. 2. In August 1896, Charles Joseph George and G.W. Neville, both merchants and both unofficial members of the Legislative Council, presented a petition urging construction of the railway terminus on Lagos Island rather than at Ido, and also asking for the railway to be extended to Abeokuta. 3. While Lagos was already in the communication discussion since as far back as 1851, Calabar which was the first in the eastern axis to get connected had it's telephone in 1923. That's more than 70years after Lagos has had it's telecommunication on and between 1946 and 1952, a three-channel line carrier system was commissioned between Lagos and Ibadan and was later extended to Osogbo, Kaduna, Kano, Benin, and Enugu. 4. The first Yoruba lawyer Christopher Alexander Sapara Williams was called to the English Bar in 1879 whilst the first Igbo lawyer, Sir Louis Mbanefo, was called to the English bar in 1937. In other words, the Yoruba are already producing lawyers for about 40 years before the amalgamation of Nigeria, while the east only had it's first lawyer about 20 years after the creation of Nigeria as a united entity. 5. Again, the first Yoruba medical practitioner, Dr. Nathaniel King, graduated in 1875 from the University of Edinburgh, 55 years earlier before the first Igbo medical practitioner, Dr. Akannu Ibiam, graduated from another Scottish University in 1935. This also means that, Yoruba had produced a medical doctor 40 years before the amalgamation of Nigeria, while the east only had it's first medical doctor about 20 years after amalgamation. 6. Many are aware that Nigeria had the first television station in Africa. But unknown to many, Nigeria actually had a television station before European giant France ever had it and long before many European countries ever dreamt of it courtesy of Awolowo. So, In all honesty, it is crass ignorance to claim that Lagos was built with Nigeria's money or developed by people from the east. While it maybe true that being a federal capital might have assisted it's development in one way or the other, certainly Lagos development predates the creation of Nigeria. Let me also add that, majority of people who went to Lagos from the east and other parts of the country did so because they knew Lagos had and still has development never seen before in their own places. 7. The first storey building in Nigeria was built in Marina, Badagry in 1845. This was 70years before the creation of Nigeria. This was a time when such building couldn't have been imagined anywhere else in the country. 8. The first Igbo alphabet-character set and Igbo primer (Isoama-Ibo) was published by Bishop Samuel Ajayi Crowther (a Yoruba man from Osogun) in 1857. Nobody knew how he came to do this. But this shows some level of advancement prior to the amalgamation of Nigeria. It also shows that before colonialist amalgamated us,we are already working together. The above is to set the record straight and inform those ascribing development in a particular place to certain people. We can all do better https://mrrightsng..com/2019/03/lagos-before-nigeria-by-abdulrazaq-o.html?m=1 |

Bernie Sanders, US president in waiting - Mr Rights https://mrrightsng..com/2019/03/bernie-sanders-us-president-in-waiting.html?m=1 Most popular US senator, Bernie Sanders has announced is entrance into the 2020 US presidential race. Two days ago, the runner up to Hilary Clinton in the race to 2016 democratic nomination launched is 2020 campaign at Brooklyn with over 1 million volunteers across the country. People ordinarily wouldn’t vote for any unknown third party. This is the same all over the world. Voting for an unknown third party will be extremely hard, especially a third party, whose campaign they are not seeing on TV and Radio almost all the time. But you can still break the jinx, says Bernie Sanders, a strong U.S presidential candidate in the 2016 general election, now the major candidate in the race for 2020. Before venturing into politics, many thought it was impossible for a third party candidate to win election in U.S. To a lot of people, only Democrats and Republican are destined to win, but Bernie disagreed. He believed that, if Democrats and Republican can do it, others can do it too. In 1971, Bernie Sanders contested for U.S Senate election as an independent candidate and lost. He didn’t only lose that election; he got just 2% of the total vote cast. But he said to himself, this isn’t bad. I will try again. In 1972, he ran for Governor. This time, he didn’t only lose; his votes went down to 1% of the total vote cast. He was not discouraged still. He said to himself once again, this isn’t bad, I will try again. In 1973, he ran again for Senate and lost. This time, he got 4% of the total vote cast. In 1975, he ran again for governor and still lost. He got 6% of the total vote cast. In 4 years, he ran 4 times and lost in all 4 attempts. After the 4th attempt, he retired from politics for 5 years. But in 1981, 5 years later, some people from his state came to him to run for city mayor. It’s more like a Local Government Chairman Election in Nigeria. He was reluctant at first due to his 4 previous failures, especially after running for Governor and senate, but he oblige. Bernie Sanders ran this time again for Mayor as an independent candidate and surprisingly, he won the election by just 14 votes. It was unbelievable; an independent candidate defeated the almighty Democrat and Republican Party. But this was a democratic strong hold nobody thought an unknown candidate could win. So, while Bernie and his supporters were celebrating the victory, the Democrat runner up could not believe this unknown independent could win, he challenged the election result. He believed there must have been an error somewhere. The votes had to be recounted and after the vote recount, Bernie still won, but this time with less than 10 votes. Although, he has won and scaled through the first hurdle, he has to work with the elected democrat city council official. This means that, he can’t hire his own staff. As a matter of fact, the personal secretary he hired was sacked by the city council officials. Those democrats didn’t allow him govern with his own ideas. This went on for about a year, until in 1982 when another city council election took place. Bernie urged many new guys to run for City Council election and they did. He campaigned for them and among these guys, 6 won. These 6 winners gave him the required veto power to get his ideas running. After taking charge fully with his own like minded team, he embarked on several pro masses reforms and he got re-elected after 2 years in 1983. He ran again in 1985 and still won. Faced with opportunity to move up in the political ladder, Bernie ran again for governor in 1986, but he lost the governorship election. This time, he got 14% of the total vote cast. 2 years later in 1988, he ran for Congress seat and lost. He was the runner up with 31% vote, trailing the winner who got 34%. He was determined to run again. He said to himself, if as an independent candidate, I can have 31% of the votes, definitely, I can get even more. So in 1988, he ran again for U.S Congress and this time, he won with a very wide margin. He got more than 50% of the total vote and ever since, he has been running and winning. Today, Bernie is the longest serving Congress man in the history of U.S. In 2016, for the first time in history, he joined the Democratic Party to run for U.S presidential election. He was rigged out by the establishment, but despite losing due to rigging, he has remained consistent with is nationwide advocacy for the issues affecting the ordinary people. Today, he his the most popular politician in U.S, even more popular than the President in terms of favourable rating. After losing the Presidential election, he created a massive peoples organization called the Our Revolution, a nationwide organization that is forcing those in authority to listen to the people. Most of his ideas have gained nationwide acceptability and this is going to define the race for 2020. The organisation, Our Revolution is articulating the issues and proffering solutions. Through his position at the Congress, Bernie is sponsoring bills to advance the cause of the people and mobilizing them to hold their representative accountable to ensure those bills scale through. Today, Bernie is 76years old, but he his running to win the US Presidency in 2020. As i have consistently said in the past, if he runs again in 2020, he will become the next President of United States of America and now that he's running, he is like a president in waiting. The point here is that, it doesn’t necessarily have to be one of the two major parties. Young people must be courageous enough to go under smaller parties. A small party of yesterday may eventually become the big party and the unknown candidate of yesterday may become the most popular candidate today. It also doesn’t necessarily have to be about age. An old competent and dedicated person maybe more useful than a young thoughtless person. Age is not a reason to throw competence and capacity to deliver to the gutter. Politics is the only realistic means to good governance in a democracy. If you elect a fool to be your representative, you will be forced to live by the laws he make. If you elect a looter, you will live by the consequence of his looting. And provided the wrong people remain in government, the status quo will always remain. |

5 facts about O TO GE slogan and the collapse of Saraki's dynasty Kwara Must Change 1. Alh. LAK Jimoh was the first politician in modern history of Kwara state to use the O TO GE slogan in a campaign. O TO GE simply means, Enough is Enough. Alhaji Jimoh first used the slogan in 2011 when he was contesting the Kwara Central Senatorial seat under the People's Democratic Party (PDP). Bukola Saraki eventually won the ticket and went ahead to represent Kwara Central at the Senate. While the slogan wasn't popular at the time, there's no taking away the fact that Alh LAK Jimoh used it first and could be rightly credited to be the originator. 2. 8 years later, the slogan idea was pitched again in 2018 immediately after the All Progressive Congress primary election in Kwara State. After the APC primary election, Islamic singer, Aminat Obirere produced a song titled o to ge as part of a joint album coordinated by Kwara Must Change to promote the candidature of APC governorship candidate, Alh. Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq. The album itself was titled o to ge, but due to some reasons, it wasn't released to the general public. Only selected stakeholders heard it at the time. So, as far as 2019 election is concerned, the pitcg of o to ge slogan came out from the unreleased project of Kwara Must Change, which was later released few days ago. 3. For some reasons, after perusing all campaign materials supplied to them, the media agency engaged by the APC saw the need to adopt o to ge slogan for the 2019 election and posters and billboards were rolled out with the slogan o to ge. 4. Shortly after, Ibrahim Labaika, a popular Islamic artist released a single titled o to ge. Labaika popularized the slogan through this track and many began to address him as Mr O TO GE. 5. As the slogan continue to resonate with the people at various places, the state government saw the need to stop it's growing popularity and they attempted to stop the opposition from using it. However, the controversy generated by the action of government further popularized the o to ge slogan and this particular action ultimately became the greatest mistake of the government and Saraki dynasty until it's eventual defeat at the poll. Tackle lapses in electoral process, Olawepo-Hashim urges President People’s Trust (PT) presidential candidate Mr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim has congratulated the All Progress Congress (APC) presidential candidate, President Muhammadu Buhari, on his declaration as the winner of last Saturday’s presidential election. He, however, called on the President to be mindful of numerous lapses identified in the electoral process. Olawepo-Hashim, who ran a robust campaign harping on issues and preferring solutions to them, stressed the need to tackle the noticeable gaps in the elections, including card reader failures, thump printing of ballot papers, allocation of results, violence and killing plagued the polls. He said he was congratulating the declared winner for the greater good, peace and progress of the nation and also in compliance with the peace accord, which all the aspirants signed. In a detailed statement, where the politician articulated his positions, he expressed his gratitude to the team of supporters who broke the bandwagon and showed loyalty to him, making him one of the frontrunners beyond the dominant party candidates. The PT presidential candidate said: “I am particularly thankful to the people of Yauri Emirate and Zuru in Kebbi State, who spoke through their votes that family ties cannot be easily broken by politics. While the APC and PDP remained the dominant parties in Kebbi State, the great people of Kebbi State showed loyalty to the bloodline by making sure that People’s Trust emerged third in most of the state. “I continued to receive calls of support and solidarity from titleholders in the emirates and village heads, who continued to say to me, ‘I hope you saw our hand?’. I saw their hands. The votes were many, not the 96 votes declared by Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).” Olawepo-Hashim was clear in maintaining that his party went around the country in the campaign season and he was one of the few alternative candidates to the two dominant parties, APC and PDP, who organised rallies and engaged in commercial advertising both on the print and the electronic media right to the last day of campaigning. The PT’s messages, he noted, were clear that Nigeria can indeed build a US$4 trillion economy within 10 years, and that the country can be united and secured, besides the ability to employ youths by creating four million jobs per year and paying workers a living wage of not less than N50,000. According to the business mogul turned politician: “We passed a strong message that a ‘new and better Nigeria is possible’. “Now, the election has been won and lost. It is my duty, as a matter of honour as all contestants signed an accord to keep the peace and congratulate the winner. I, therefore, offer my felicitation to the winner of the 2019 Presidential election, President Muhammad Buhari. I pray for God’s guidance for him and wisdom as he steers the ship of the state further in the next four years.” He explained that the nation cannot pretend everything has been smooth in the processes leading to the election and the election itself. “Some of the ugly realities are assignments for political leaders and the entire citizenry to fix in the immediate future with a view to resolving them so as to building a stronger democracy, a more united and prosperous Nigeria,” Olawepo-Hashim said. The presidential candidate with a rich history of activism alleged an attempt to politically delegitimise the PT, its presidential candidate and other platforms. He said pursuant to this, were ridiculous votes in the region of 40, 90, 100 in different states allocated by the chairman of the INEC and his team, which the candidate claimed did not in any way reflect the actual number of votes obtained by the People’s Trust in the elections. “The total votes announced in many States and FCT were in fact less than votes recorded in some and most of the polling units,” he said. To the gallant contestant, while People’s Trust cannot claim to have out-performed the APC and PDP in any state, in most states of the North-Central and Kebbi State, it recorded votes that place it in the third position. “Unfortunately, the handler and fixers of the current exercise will rather choose to ridicule the People’s Trust while allocating huge figure to shadowy parties that were deliberately registered and propped-up to give support and legitimacy to the ruling party. The whole idea was started earlier in the campaign season, by scheming the People’s Trust out of the presidential debate and electronic media channels controlled by the ruling party,” Olawepo-Hashim said. Rather unruffled, he continued: “These political forces, who are not simply contented with rigging elections in 2019 alone, also want to determine the set of political platforms to promote for the future. They want to play God over our destiny. These forces are unhappy that the People’s Trust submitted the highest nominations into offices during the nomination exercise. They are unhappy that we won the online votes among the alternative parties. They have done everything to attack and destroy our platform, but we are undaunted and not intimidated.” He alleged further that “the odious scheme of this anti-PT forces finally came to the fore when one of the private stations controlled by the ruling party quickly assembled some proxy analysts to lampoon the ‘bad showing’ of some young parties, they immediately launched a deregistration of these parties, even only after the results of only two states had been officially announced, this is how petty, ugly and low, the electoral and political process in 2019 has descended to”. On electoral irregularities, violence and killings, the business magnate stated that it was noted in many locations and the unusual large numbers of cancelled votes in Plateau, Benue, Nasarawa and other areas. He added: “Incidentally, these states fall within the catchment areas of the People’s Trust (PT). In many states, we have received reports of ballot snatching, delayed arrival of voting materials or deliberate non-distribution of materials and wide spread irregularities. We hope the managers of the process will address these problems and stop further bloodshed in the land. Other than this, he said in the build-up to the election, following the initial postponement, they envisaged the present scenario and the reason why they requested in their letter dated February 17, 2019 for a four-week postponement of the polls to allow for a properly audited system and a cool-off period from what was obviously a desperate election scenario. Unfortunately, the major parties appear to be interested in having the election anyhow and not properly. “The outcome of the 2019 presidential elections, even though we have accepted it in the interest of peace and stability of the country, fall short of international standard and the standard established at the 2015 election. President Buhari must, soon after the governorship and state Assembly elections, probe the inefficient conduct of the INEC. It will be time also to have a national conversation on how to unbundle the INEC and have a more efficient and transparent Election Management Process,” Olawepo-Hashim stressed. On vote buying, he said they “saw massive voters’ inducement with cash, especially by the two dominant parties”. “Whatever support, therefore, obtained by them has been immorally and illegally acquired. Cash deployed have also been above the threshold set by the electoral act. “One unfortunate dimension of the vote purchase market in the just concluded presidential election is that the practice was not just driven by unscrupulous politicians desperate for votes but by the demand of about 60% of the voters who turned for financial gratification before voting. Candidates who refused to offer cash-for-votes were generally referred to as ‘unserious candidates’ and severely punished at the polls. Nigerians as a people must have an honest debate about vote buying and its impact on the electoral outcome and governance,” he said. Olawepo-Hashim said the election showed that the victor has secured a massively tainted victory that lives behind ‘a sour taste in the mouth’ and a broken polity, but it is his responsibility to pick the pieces and heal the wounds that have already been inflicted in the land. ”On my part, I consider it a rewarding participation in spite of the outcome. It is always honourable to stand up for duty to one’s country, regardless of the outcome. I remain undaunted; I remain solid in my faith that a better Nigeria is possible. I pledge to you that you will find me always a willing partner in the unfinished assignment for the peace, unity and prosperity of Nigeria, even as the future beckons,” the PT candidate said. http://thenationonlineng.net/tackle-lapses-in-electoral-process-olawepo-hashim-urges-president/ |
