Why violence took place in Saraki's Community- Head of Community The residents of Aiyelabegan Compound in Agbaji District of Okemale Area in Ilorin has called on the Emir of Ilorin Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu Gambari and the various security agencies in Kwara state to call the supporters of Senate President Bukola Saraki to maintain the peace for which its neighbourhood has always been known for. The appeal was made by the Mogaji of Aiyelebagan compound Alhaji Oba Aiyelabegan while speaking with newsmen in Ilorin following a violent attack on the compound by alleged political supporters of the Senate President Bukola Saraki who live in the area on Thursday 10th of January. He alleged that the compound was attacked with stones and various types of missiles by political supporters of Bukola Saraki who live in the area, and later shot sporadically into the air saying tgey were shouting slogans that Agbaji is the domain of Bukola Saraki and they would not tolerate anybody living there not to be supporters of Saraki. He said siege lasted for several hours and the family members at home at the time only escaped harm because they barricaded themselves inside the house till the next morning. He lamented that this type of behaviours in the name of politics has no place in a civilized society saying as a citizens of Nigeria, people of Ile Aiyelabegan have the right to hold political views of there choice and should not be coerced to be supporters of anybody against it's wish. We are bringing this unfortunate event to the notice of the good people of Nigeria in general but of Ilorin in particular. The constitution of our country guarantees us the right of free association and no one, no matter how highly placed can force us to follow them. It is common knowledge that Gbemi, a notable member of the Saraki family belongs to the APC, party of President Mohammadu Buhari. She does not belong to PDP to which her brother belongs. We hereby appeal to the various security agencies in Kwara state to call the supporters of Bukola Saraki to maintain the peace for which our neighbourhood has always been known for. https://mrrightsng..com/2019/01/why-violence-took-place-in-sarakis.html?m=1 |
4 attempts to assassinate me has failed, Kwara APC governorship candidate cry out Kwara Must Change Extract I am Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, the Gubernatorial candidate of APC Kwara State and, Insha Allah, the next Governor. I must say yesterday's incident was the fourth attempt to attack me. The first one was while we were campaigning for the House of Representative by-elections. The second was on December 25th, during the IEDPU Day. The third was last Thursday and the fourth, yesterday. During the IEDPU Day, we walked away calmly and urged our supporters not to retaliate. We didn't do anything; we didn't respond to their attack. Last Thursday, the same incidence happened and we urged our supporters not to retaliate. And yesterday, yesterday's incident was very bad and I hope it doesn’t repeat itself again. We are restraining ourselves because we don't want to make things go bad, to turn awry. This is our Town; we won't destroy it. We know they are not from here; they don't care whatever happens. That's why their policy is to destroy. If we go back to when they wanted to take power from Muhammed Lawal, it was through violence. Some of you that know me know that I contested under CPC, it was not known for violence, we did not attack anybody, we don't go about with thugs. We lose election, we go back home and we come back again. That's the way it is, it's not by force. You can't impose your will on the people. But what we have here now is people clutching to straws, a drowning man strikes the way he wants to. They are drowning, they are on their way out and they have no answer to what is going on. Illorin has changed. Kwara has changed. People are decamping daily, there was a major decamping in Kaiama yesterday. Before that, it was Oyun. Before that, it was Ekiti. So people are coming into our party everyday. In trying to stem that, the only answer they have is violence, violence, violence but we'll not go toe-to-toe with them in violence. We'll keep reporting them to the law enforcement authorities. The police are doing very well, they are doing a good job, we want them to do more, and they have to be balanced in what they do. In terms of what the PDP people are doing, I think they should put an end to it. They've singled me out and other APC candidates out for attack. We know that they can't achieve what they want to achieve. They can't! We urge them to be peaceful, campaign like we are campaigning. You can see that they’re not campaigning. They have a gubernatorial candidate that is not campaigning, but a senatorial candidate that is campaigning like a governor. He keeps going from Kwara South to Kwara North, is he contesting for his 5th term? We really don’t know who is campaigning for what. They have proxies campaigning. The last time he brought Abdulfatah Ahmed as governor. We all know that Abdulfatah is not the executive Governor of Kwara, somebody who couldn’t tar a single road in Ifelodun Local government. Why do you expect the one they are bringing now to do any better? There’s a lot of work to be done in Kwara State. They asked them about minimum wage. They said that they will pay and that they will even pay more. These are people that have not paid salary in 6 months, 1 year. And mind you, people have not noticed that last year’s budget was N190 billion, this year’s budget is N150 billion. If you can’t pay salary with N190 billion, how can you can you pay on N150 billion? They’re a bunch of jokers, they are not ready to govern. They are only here to steal our money, so we have to vote them out. O to ge! https://mrrightsng..com/2019/01/4-attempts-to-assassinate-me-has-failed.html?m=1 |

Agbakoba Banks on Progressive Forces to Deliver Olawepo-Hashim as President National Chairman of the Peoples Trust (PT), Mr. Olisa Agbakoba (SAN), has said that the progressive forces in the country have resolved to deliver the presidential candidate of the party, Mr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim at the February 16, presidential polls. Agbakoba, told a large gathering of party faithful at the Old Parade Ground in Abuja at the flag off of its presidential campaign that the progressives have decided to rally against the present set of leaders the same way they rallied against the military during the battle to regain democracy. Agbakoba, who spoke briefly to declare the campaign open said that the progressive forces were united under the umbrella of the PT. He said, “We took a resolute decision to form this movement we are seeing today. We have reunited under a broad platform called Third Force and by God’s grace and power, we will win. Let us go together. According to him, in the years past, progressive forces including Chief Gani Fawehinmi, Femi Falana and himself among other resolutely fought the military to a standstill, adding that today, the same progressives, who are alive have resolved to change the current order by delivering Olawepo-Hashim as President. Olawepo-Hashim, who addressed the crowd said that the current administration had worsened the security situation of the country, adding that 11 out of 19 northern states are already groaning under the scourge of insecurity. He said, “This is a turning point in the history of Nigeria. We are at a point where we will exchange instability for security. We are at a point where we will dump poverty for prosperity, we are at a point where we will stop the wave of violence and hatred and build a truly united Nigeria; where the live of every Nigerian will count. “Today, 11 out of 19 states of northern Nigeria have literarily been overrun by bandits from across the border and violence caused by agents of disunity and destruction. The southern states have literarily been overtaken by kidnappers, robbers and all sorts of violence induced by the present state of the economy of the country. “At the bottom of these massive upheavals in the land is youth unemployment, which has climbed to about 36 percent. We have more youths that are unemployed than youths that are gainfully employed. The national unemployment average has also climbed to 24 percent of the population. “Our resolve is to build a new economy that will guarantee jobs for our teeming youths, empower our women with the capital to take their place in the society. “We are resolved to expand our economy to a $4trn economy within 10 years. We will restructure the way power is organized between the states and the federal government by devolving power to the states as presently constituted so that they can mobilise more local resources to address problems. “We will empower the states to have their own police side-by-side with the federal police, so that the internal security can be enhanced. We will create a national guard as an intermediate force between the Army and the Police so that we can restore internal security rapidly to the country. “We are a party that is determined to build a better Nigeria. We want to put an end to the poverty squalor and underdevelopment that have been the hallmark of the incumbent government. We will fight corruption in a way that it would be done scientifically. It will be multi-various. It is not just going to be a police action. “You cannot fight corruption when majority of the people are hungry. A people that pay his worker paltry minimum wage below N18, 000 cannot fight corruption efficiently. We will raise the minimum wage to N50, 000 at the first anniversary of our government. “ https://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2019/01/15/agbakoba-banks-on-progressive-forces-to-deliver-olawepo-hashim-as-president/ |

You don’t have power to ban free movement, KMC tell Kwara Governor https://mrrightsng..com/2019/01/you-dont-have-power-to-ban-free.html?m=1 Leading Pro-Democracy group in Kwara State, Kwara Must Change (KMC) has urged Kwarans to continue to exercise their democratic rights of freedom of association and movement as contained in the constitution of the country. The group rejected ban of free movement and street rally by the Kwara State government as pronounced by Governor Abdulfatai Ahmed earlier today. Kwara Must Change, in a statement by its state coordinator, Comrade Yusuf Olatunji stated that, freedom of movement is a constitutional right that cannot be taken away by any individual or government. According to Yusuf, Chapter 4, Section 41 of the Nigerian constitution guarantees every Nigerian the right to associate and move freely and that free movement; include the right to hold rallies. Kwara Must Change maintained that, the right to free movement is not only protected in the Nigerian constitution, it is also a universal right coded in Article 13 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) and as such, cannot be taken away by any state. ‘’While we encourage the state government to take decisive actions against those who violate any law, we are of the views that, acting with impunity, by attempting to take away people’s right through the back door shall not be acceptable''. ''We will support any government action to stop further violence in the state, but such action must be in line with the Nigerian constitution'', it said. The group therefore urged the state government to resist the temptation of playing politics with the lives of Kwarans END https://mrrightsng..com/2019/01/you-dont-have-power-to-ban-free.html?m=1 |

Olawepo-Hashim cautions Buhari, APC over attack on judiciary Presidential Candidate of the People’s Trust (PT), Mr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim has cautioned the executive arm of government to thread softly in the handling of ongoing matters affecting the Chief Justice of the Federation. Olawepo-Hashim, made the statement while reacting to reports about the impending trial of the Chief Justix of Nigeria(CJN) in a statement issued to journalists by his Chief Press Secretary , Hassan Ibrahim in Abuja on Sunday. He affirmed that the development constitutes serious threat to democracy and rule of law, warning that separation of powers on which democractic order stands should not be destroyed on the altar of power play or any other reason. He said that as one who was a leading voice in the struggle for the restoration of democracy in Nigeria; “I owe inviolable the sacred principle of separation of power of which the independence of the judiciary is a fundamental element.” He further said: “Nigeria’s judiciary is surely, not perfect just like many other institutions of state that need urgent reforms. But this must not be a license for the executive for perfidious interference. “There are mechanism for corrections of any errors done by judicial officers in the Nigerian constitution . “What we are seeing now is not the activation of such mechanism but what appears like a political persecution of the judiciary which is dangerous for democracy, national unity and cohesion. “Though with her own shortcomings which can be internally cured within the judiciary’s self correcting mechanism ,our judiciary remains highly revered with an enviable jurisprudence and history. It has provided help to other countries by posting judges to many African countries such as Botswana, Gambia, Sierra Leone, Zimbabwe and even at the international level. “That enviable record must not be recklessly blighted by the on going attempt to humiliate judicial officers.” The PT’s candidate said this occasion has also provided an opportunity for the the People’s Trust to elucidate its our policy perspective on the judiciary, stressing that the party’s manifesto, has already highlighted far-reaching justice sector reform initiatives aimed at repositioning the judiciary. He said that the party envisions the Judiciary as a self-correcting institution through the National Judicial Council, and aims to reverse the humiliation and molestation of the judicial sector while stopping the erosion of judicial authority and mandates due to executive interference and harassment. He stated further that; “Under our Presidency, I will implement and pursue fundamental reform of the justice administration sector to guarantee the independence of the judiciary from executive interference while strengthening the system to justly and efficiently discharge her constitutional mandate. We intend to make the judiciary truly the last hope of the common person by stopping police brutality and removing hindrance in the justice administration.” He lamented the increasing erosion and weakening of the democratic structures, adding that the Nigerian judiciary is not as bad as it is being painted. Olawepo-Hashim urged stakeholders in the sector to consider the very difficult operating environment and the many brilliant output of the judiciary despite the depressing conditions under which judges and judicial officers operate in the country. “Under our justice sector reforms, I have three major goals which we will not compromise namely immediate end to oppression of the poor though unjust incarceration; protection of judicial officers from humiliation through vindictive prosecutions; and strengthening National Judicial Council NJC for discipline of judicial officers without executive interference. “Within my first week in office, I will order immediate discontinuation of all existing prosecutions against judicial officers. The Solicitor General of the Federation will be directed to file Noelle Prosecui for all cases against judicial officials while referring such matters to the National Judicial Council. “I will stop all actions and decisions deemed to be designed to humiliate and disgrace judicial officers. “To ease the burden of judicial officers, we will massively deploy technology, create of more courts, and appoint more judges and enhancement of welfare of judicial officers,” he said. Olawepo–Hashim stated further that he would strengthen the National Judicial Council to make judiciary a self-correcting institution. “The NJC will be empowered to discipline erring judicial officers and we will widen and deepen the financial independence of the judiciary. “We will give extensive support for the judiciary to retain independence from executive encroachment. “No democracy flourishes when organs of government are subjected to authoritarian measures by a sitting president. “We must respect rule of law, separations of power and allow checks and balances put in place to balance the political system,” the presidential hopeful said. http://thenationonlineng.net/olawepo-hashim-cautions-buhari-apc-attack-judicuary/ |
