I was just trying to debunk the myth you guys spread that your God is a loving and merciful God. Does your imaginary God know about mercy when he told moses to kill a person for picking sticks on a sabbath day?

Where did God "try" to kill his friend Moses? Please cite it, and let us read the whole context of the passage. If God really wanted to kill Moses, he would have. What I remember was that God wanted to kill the Israelites be[b]cause[/b] of their disobedience, and Moses willingly offered himself and asked God to kill him intead of them. And God listened to Moses plea, and spared them. That doesn't sound vicious or babaric to me.

You can say that again. The romans have taken away all of his power. He used to be so powerful that after delivering the amorites into the hands of Joshua, he sends down a hailstorm in order to kill a large portion of the people who flee from battle (Joshua 10:8-11).He confuses the Philistines and causes them to kill one another (1 Samuel 14:20-23). God kills Jeroboam because he’s the leader of the enemies (2 Chronicles 13:20). He kills Nabal without specifying a reason, but it’s probably because David desires his wife and other belongings (1 Samuel 25:38).  He also tried to kill his best friend moses. The biblical Jewish God used to finish his enemies in the old testament instantenously, he was so wicked and powerful that he destroyed the whole world during the time myth of Noah, he sent out bears to kill children because they insulted his prophet. He killed people because they messed with his ark of covenant. He wanted to kill his best friend moses.God sends an angel to kill 185,000 men in an Assyrian camp because they’re enemies of his people (2 Kings 19:31-35). He plagues Azariah, a man labeled as a good King, with leprosy for the remainder of his life because he allows people to burn incense in a location displeasing to God (2 Kings 15:1-5).  He became powerless the very moment the Romans took hold of him from the jews turned him into their God and rendered him powerless. The romans polished him, reduced his power and authority, made him more inclusive and presented the Jewish God as their own God who then became the saviour of the world. Mind you prophet Mohammed did the same with Allah the only difference is he forgot to reduce his voilent nature.

Did you also read the original book of Mark and realised that the so called appearance of Jesus to his diciples after his resurrection was not written in the original version of mark even though this fact was acknowledeged by some versions of the bible like the NIV? what about the book of Isaiah(The jesus's prophecy) where the original hebrew translation is completely different from the one in your bible?

Here is a verse where some one was killed because he refused to abide by one of the laws of the 10 commandments. A man was stoned to death for picking up sticks on a day that he wasn’t permitted to do any work (Numbers 15:32-36). The fact that there was no case of any body that was being put to death because they cursed their parants does'nt mean it never happended,  remember you are always quick to say that the fact that the bible does not speak about events or things does not mean that they did not happen. how hypocritical.

Did you read my main post? if not, go back and read it. I submit that the 10 commandments that should be binding does not contain the injunction not to kill. here is a summary of the commandments in Ex34:

1. Thou shalt worship no other god (For the Lord is a jealous god).

2. Thou shalt make thee no molten gods.

3. The feast of unleavened bread shalt thou keep in the month when the ear is on the corn.

4. All the first-born are mine.

5. Six days shalt thou work, but on the seventh thou shalt rest.

6. Thou shalt observe the feast of weeks, even of the first fruits of the wheat harvest, and the feast of ingathering at the year's end.

7. Thou shalt not offer the blood of my sacrifice with leavened bread.

8. The fat of my feast shall not remain all night until the morning.

9. The first of the first fruits of thy ground thou shalt bring unto the house of the Lord thy God.

10. Thou shalt not seethe a kid in its mother's milk.



Had god lost his mind between giving these replacements and the first set of commandments in Ex20?

Most people question christainity because that is the only religion they know. The koran is in arabic and most people can not get to lay their hands on it besides the fact that moslems don't engage in religious arguments when their prophet or Allah is rediculed the easily signoff. How many hindus, buddhist etc do you know? why were you and dudu arguing about an ark of covenant? The question should be why is God inside a box or an ark? why would an almighty God be living inside an ark? I see no reason why a merciful God will want to kill anybody because they disobeyed him. Anyway this is the same God that is on record for wanting to kill his best friend moses, what have you got to say about that? Why does the biblical God love kıllıng people?

Good point. There are in fact some Christian documents that depict Jesus appearing to Pilate. Admittedly, these documents were disregarded by the compilers of the NT, but the fact that Christians would go to such length to give the religion credibility reveals the depths of their depravity.

The books I'm reading at the moment are some old tomes that give detailed accounts of pre-colonial African religion and culture. Quite an interesting read though at times i have to say I literally felt sick what with reading about the multitudes of human sacrifices (many of which still go on today) and just the literal cheapness of human life.

Its no wonder the slave trade was so rampant back then.

Anyone worshipping the ancestors is free to do so, since many of us have been drinking out of the fountain of forgetfulness, and I guess sometimes the truth about ourselves is just too bitter to accept. I think you are confusing the issue of God's existence and the representation given to Him by humans.  The fact that the Bible is written in a particular langauge does not mean that it is not relevant to everybody.  In Nigeria, you have proverbs (words of wisdom) that are peculiar to particular tribes and yet it is relevant irrespective of tribe or nationality.

As a scientist with many years in research, many things have convinced me that there must be God and have convinced other scientist that indeed there is God. Making a statement, or repeating what you have heard others say about existence or non-existence of God is what you and others like you are doing instead of finding out for yourself through readind, observation and thoughts.

Don't be one of those lazy journalist that we have in Nigeria doing copy and paste journalism.  Think and think out loud.
