mmmmmmm i just speechless. this is traumatic. mans inhumanity to man. these people are evil beyond description. they kill and rape in the name of what? these are stuff i normally get at  csw online.  may God help nigeria. what happened in sweden that added another 20%?.
Nothing really happened in Sweden, reality just hit me in my face that the God I used to believe in was a farce. Sweden is an atheist country, when i got there I realized that we are just deceiving ourselves in Nigeria. The people in Sweden do not believe in any God but they seem to live a live that is FAR better than ours, they are very organized, honest and what not yet they do not believe in any God, No diseases and abject poverty like Nigeria, no excessive road accidents like in Nigeria, people were secured happy and really valued human life people were not dying like chickens like in Nigeria. I wondered way God will leave his people who were calling on his name day and night for help and support to be suffering the way they were suffering in Nigeria and allow people that do not care about him, people that insult and equate him to cartoon characters to have such a blissful and prosperous life(because i was raised to believe that everything comes from God). That really affected me, I then began to see things for what they really were. Man controls everything in this world God who is non existent does not. Television channels like the national geographic, history channel and discovery channel which i had no access to back in Nigeria really convinced me that the God I used to believe in was a farce. I began to read how the entire religion came about how the bible was complied by the early catholic bishops, how it was edited, and all the deliberate mistranslation from the jewish Torah when it came to the Jesus prophecy, the life of the early christains, the history of early catholic church etc. I then found out that miracles were all lies, I have been around Europe but nothing like miracles exist there. When people get sick they go to the hospitals because if as a pastor you claim to have spiritual ability their media will go after you to prove it in front of the camera so no pastor tries any of those gimmicks in Europe(one Nigerian pastor was exposed of miracle fraud in Norway when the media went after him). I remembered when I used to pray for people so that they will get healed with all seriousness as a christains and when nothing happened I always had an excuse why it didn't happen grin without knowing i was just wasting my time. I re-read the koran again and came to the realization that men created all this things.Like most Ignorant Nigerian I used to believe that the bible was the literal word of God. I had little or no idea how it came about. I read the old testament again and wondered why I was believing is such a monovalent God. By then I had had enough and decided to run away form this man made sham.

Martian:
@bindex, I'm not a sentimentsl person but DAMN, hope you don't have PTSD after that horror. I'm glad I didn't have to go through something like that in order to figure out god is a farce.
Boy what I went through after what happened, I told my mum and like, every Christian( selfish ) she prayed with me and thanked God for sparing my life, she told the l pastor and they prayed for me in the church(imagine) They forgot that the same God they believed in did not spare the lives of those that were confidently and honestly expecting him to spare their lives even at the face of death. God did not spare me the lied I told coupled with the verses of the Koran that I recited saved my life not God. That singular action compounded everything.

manmustwac:
@bindex
They're lives are in danger and all they can do is pray? You see what religious indoctrination dose too people. They shoud have should Allah Akbar {God Is Great} to appease their attackers or, plead with the killers that they will convert to Islam or better still they should never have hid in the church in the first place. But then see what you have to go through just discover that God dosen't exist. And the sad thing is those girls who got raped despite everything they went through they will still cling on to their religious beliefs
The worst part was that we were safe in sabon gari before we went to the church. If we had remained where we where in sabon gari nothing like that would have happened. One of the girls does not really believe as she used too she isn't strong enough to accept lack of belief I guess so I encourage her to keep on believing so that she can be happy but the others have no choice they are still Christians(3 out of the 5 of the ladies are married now).

No need fighting the religious people, they are self desturcting them selves for now. A good friend(very conservative christain) of mine was getting a little sad and asking himself that why is that God does not answer prayers the other day grin grin. So no need fighting them, we should just fight for our rights. By the way athiest and irreligious people are now about a billion in the world. we are not a minority as some one suggested we are only a minority in places like africa where most of the people don't even know what they want in life.

Example, you were probably born into a christian household in Nigeria and bombarded with jesus everyday. If you were born into an household in Saudi Arabia and bombarded with Mohammed everyday, you'll be a muslim and swear up and down that islam is the right path to god. So where and how you grew up is the deciding factor of what religion you adhere to, unless you look at religion objectively.
I was born a Muslim became a Christain when I was 14 because my mum decided to convert back to her former religion. I was a very good christain I must say, but left the entire religion when i found out that prayers was a farce(I even try to lay hands on sick people before so that they could get healed but nothing happened grin). There was a day back in kano during the religious crisis of 2004, I was together with a group of friends(VERY VERY strong christains) when the crisis got to where we were. The crisis began around 2 pm after the slaves of Allah were giving moral and spiritual invigoration after the friday prayers. We(about 15 of us) were in church when the crisis came to where we where. When the rumours started flying that the moslems had come about we all ran away but had to come back into the church when we realised that the church would be safer for us. I told them that i would go out and keep an eye on the moslems because as a an hausa guy(who speaks the language perfectly) who was also a former moslem and could recite the koran very well I had no problem staying outside. My friends strated praying in ernest to God to come and save them. To cut the story short the slaves of Allah came and went into the church, I lied to them that I was a muslim and begged them to spare my friends but they refused. When they got into the church my freinds were so confident that Jesus will save them, they prayed to God to send his angels to come and blind the eyes of the moslem assailants, they were more than confident that it would happen. There had no fear on their faces and prayed in the front of the moslem killers with full confidence since prayer was the only thing they could do. The killer slaves of Allah waited for them to finish praying some of them(killer slaves of Allah) bursted out laughing because they were amazed at the way my freinds were speaking in tongues and praying even in the face of death while the other killers patiently waited. After about 10 minutes one of the killers cut the chase and started slamming my friends with his spear. They killed all the males among them (9) and raped all the females. Since them my belief in the God of the bible dropped 50%. When I went to sweden my belief droped futher to about 70%. After I opened my eyes to the world, did my personal research on how the bible was written, why it was written and all the fallacies that were inside my belief droped futher to about 90%. Now that I am in Nigeria I am confident to say that the God of the bible is a farce, Allah is a farce and all the Gods that Nigerians worship are are a BIG joke. So poster go ahead and tell your girl she deserves to know the truth, as for friends and family pls don't for now until you are completely independent. Nigeria is a place were you could be killed for openly displaying your lack of belief in God.

@ mazaje

Yes I did.

Because the tree had plenty of foliage. As I have explained one of the indications of fruitage is when its foliage is plenty. The fact is fruit trees have been known to bear out of season. So why did Jesus approach the tree, do you think, if He never expected it to have borne fruits? Do you think He might have been confused by His hunger, lol?

On the other hand Jesus could have approached the tree with the idea of providing an object lesson for His disciples. Since it was expected that plenty of foliage on a fig tree was a strong indication of much fruitage, and no such fruits were found regardless of it being in season or not, then cursing the tree as an act had far more implications than just a mere physical cursing of a tree.  I hope you appreciate where I am coming from.

Even the very question as to whether the Creator of the fig tree knew if it bore or not would suggest that He had a far greater lesso
Let me answer on Mazaje's behalf (I hope he doesn't mind) You have turned the story into an allegorical account knowing that it clearly doesn't add up. Matthew and Mark reported it as an event not an allegory, on what basis does a person take biblical story as an allegory? why is the story of infanticide by Herod, or the feeding of 5000 people not taking as an allegory but a real event? This is not one of Jesus parables, It was report as an event.  As you said the tree had foliage which indicated that it was ready for fruit.Thats not what I am interested in.Did the tree wither immediately as written by Matthew or the next morning as written by Mark? The new testament is alleged to have been the writings of the deciples of Jesus who were with him and witnessed all the alleged events, why then are their account of events so contradictory? These events were only recorded in the bible, if their accounts are so conflicting then it goes to show that the alleged eye witness did not write any of the books as the bible claims.

@davidylan

Where did you get your knowledge of atmospheric oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen and ammonia from? is it from the bible? Beside the use of miracle and outlandish explanations do the writers of the bible know what amino acids are? you come here insisting that science knows and answers nothing about life, the world and creation when the bible which you assert contains the ultimate truth of how things came to be clearly does not even know what it is talking about when it comes to how things came to being and some basic principles of science. Mazaje asked you to explain how God in the bible created light through words of mouth but all you are doing here is lecturing about the science that the bible, the God in it and it's writers have no knowledge about. As mazaje asked do you believe in Jacobs genetic engineering model? can you explain how peeled branches affect an organism’s appearance?

From our knowledge of gastric juices and bile acids we know that they are more than capable of digesting a human body, how did Jonah survive inside a fish for 3 days? can you explain? While there are multitudes of unfortunate factors that can cripple a person, spiritual possession has never proven to be one of them yet Luke says purports that a woman’s crippled nature is due to possession by a devil? Can you explain how a Devil causes this? Scientist never have any outlandish claim of miracles and what not, If we are to go by your bible and what it espouses we would still be living in caves, enslaving and killing witches all over the world. You believe that the words written by men chauvinistic who lived in caves on stones is enough to tell you how the world and humans came into being but modern science as you claim has not answered anything. How has genesis answered how the sun was created? We see through all your posturing.

There are 613 commandments and not 10 like you believers want us to believe.

Now don't believe me, check it out for your self in the book of Leviticus Chapter 11 - 19 is full of commandments to are suppose to follow asa christian.

If you say you are following the Jews then you need to keep all the commandments and not just 10.

Matthew 5: 17, 18 Yashua (aka Jesus of 2000 years ago) said and I quote " Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill.
18: For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled."

Yashua was refering to the law of Moses (Torah) or don't you think so?

Has heaven and earth passed away yet?

If not then why do you forsake the law, and claim there are only ten commandments?

The reality (fact) of the matter is that there are 613 commandments, not ten?

Satanist teach there are ten commandments, however, if you care to check it out you will find 613 commandments all relevant to this day and time, because heaven or earth has not yet passed away.

Now let me interprete the verse above into plain engrish.  That the gospel is hidden or covered from some men because they have willfully closed their eyes to it.  So, if the heart of anyone who hears the gospel is veiled or covered, it is definite that he is lost and fully under the power of sin and Satan.  Those who refuse to hear the gospel are proper subjects for Satan's work to increase the darkness and hardeness of their hearts.  Is my geesi clear enough?
What about the Christains living in Nigeria are they under the power of "sin and Satan"? I used to live in an atheist country but the people are far better than Nigerians, I don't believe in sin the way you do and I also don't believe in Satan, Sin to me means something immoral or unethical, while sin to you means living under the power of Satan which will eventually lead a person to hell. If we are to go by your own defination of sin then Nigerian Christains are the worst sinners I know because they Sin needlssly. Lawlessness and Immorality is what thrives here and most of the people here who engage in this "sins" are either Christains or Moslems. So what now happens to your "fully lost and under the power of sin and Satan"? You have perfectly described majority of Nigerian Christains.

OLAADEGBU:
Have you forgotten that there is still a Fatwa hanging on your head for being an apostate?  Don't think you are save where you are, you better run into the name of the Lord who is a strong tower and be saved and secured.  The hangman is still frantically searching for you for forsaking Allah and his prophet.  It is only those who are in Christ that are really secure and saved from the avenger of death out there.  Come under the protection of the blood of Jesus and be saved. wink
Saved from what? Hell?  grin grin grin or Fatwa? There are a LOT of Christains out there praying for their God to save them from all kinds of problems and situations but have recieved no answer from him. I don't want to be saved I just want to be safe. For now I am safe where I am and no slave of Allah can do me any harm.

Guy, are you asking me to state when Jesus made the fig tree wither!!!??

That's impossible for me to do simply because I don't believe he made it wither in the first place. The fig story is simply another allegorical tale of which there are loads of examples in the NT.
Is that the new excuse? Mark and Matthew describe it as an event that actually occured. You Justified the reason Jesus cursed the fig tree in your first post and now that I have asked other pertinent questions you quickly changed the story and played the allegory card. Ok lets assume that it was an allegorical narrative what then happens to the passage where Mark said that " for the time of figs was not yet " ? Jesus was punishing the tree for not doing something it was incapable of doing. Parable or not, this is a part of the story. Even as a parable, regardless of what the tree represents, we are still stuck with the issue that Jesus punished something for all eternity(depending on who's account you choose) for its mere nature, that it could not change.

@  Bastage

Now we have needlessly embroiled ourselves in botanical mumbo jumbo, which has nothing to do with the biblical narrative and why I posted the two conflicting verses. Here are the verses once again.Matthew 21:18-22

Early in the morning, as he was on his way back to the city, he was hungry. 19 Seeing a fig tree by the road, he went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. Then he said to it, "May you never bear fruit again!" Immediately the tree withered. 20 When the disciples saw this, they were amazed. "How did the fig tree wither so quickly?" they asked. 21 Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and it will be done. 22 If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer."
And, here is Mark’s contrary account in chapter 11:12-14, 20-26

The next day as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry. 13 Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs. 14 Then he said to the tree, "May no one ever eat fruit from you again." And his disciples heard him say it… In the morning, as they went along, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots. 21 Peter remembered and said to Jesus, "Rabbi, look! The fig tree you cursed has withered!" 22 "Have faith in God," Jesus answered. 23 "I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. 24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. 25 And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins."
When did the Fig tree wither? was it immediately as said by Matthew or the next morning as said by Mark? beside that what did Jesus really say? did he say "May you never bear fruit again" or "May no one ever eat fruit from you again." Keep in mind that Mark went ahead and said "And his disciples heard him say it". If his diciples heard him say it then why the very different and contradictory accounts? The two statements are very different statements that are not the same, there is a great difference between not bearing friuts again and people never eating fruit from a tree again. A tree could still bear poisonous fruits which would make people not to eat from it again, that is different from not bearing fruits at all. Since there are no records of Jesus ever doing any of this things beside those recorded in the bible I believe that says a lot about the veracity of all the events recorded therein.

LOL. This is a question for botanists.

Here's the answer:

"The facts connected with the fig tree are these. Toward the end of March the leaves begin to appear, and in about a week the foliage coating is complete. Coincident with this, and sometimes even before, there appears quite a crop of small knobs, not the real figs, but a kind of early forerunner. They grown to the size of green almonds, in which condition they are eaten by peasants and others when hungry. When they come to their own indefinite maturity they drop off. These precursors of the true fig are called taqsh in Palestinian Arabic. Their appearance is a harbinger of the fully formed appearance of the true fig some six weeks later. So, as Mark says, the time for figs had not yet come. But if the leaves appear without any taqsh, that is a sign that there will be no figs. Since Jesus found "nothing but leaves" - leaves without any taqsh- he knew that "it was an absolutely hopeless, fruitless fig tree" and said as much."

Can't knock it. It makes solid sense.
Jesus Christ. Messiah and expert on Fig Trees. grin
This below from The California Rare Fruit Growers Website:httphttp http://www.crfg.org/pubs/ff/fig.html seems to disagree with your post. Just because a fig tree doesn't have a spring crop (some do, some don't) doesn't mean it is barren and won't have a main crop in the fall, it's normal harvest time. According to this site, it doesn't sound like unripe figs are even edible at all and there is no record of palestinian peasants eating unripened figs.

"Fruits: The common fig bears a first crop, called the breba crop, in the spring on last season's growth. The second crop is borne in the fall on the new growth and is known as the main crop. In cold climates the breba crop is often destroyed by spring frosts. The matured "fruit" has a tough peel (pure green, green suffused with brown, brown or purple), often cracking upon ripeness, and exposing the pulp beneath. The interior is a white inner rind containing a seed mass bound with jelly-like flesh. The edible seeds are numerous and generally hollow, unless pollinated. Pollinated seeds provide the characteristic nutty taste of dried figs.

Harvest: Figs must be allowed to ripen fully on the tree before they are picked. They will not ripen if picked when immature. A ripe fruit will be slightly soft and starting to bend at the neck. Harvest the fruit gently to avoid bruising. Fresh figs do not keep well and can be stored in the refrigerator for only 2 - 3 days. Some fig varieties are delicious when dried. They take 4 - 5 days to dry in the sun and 10 -12 hours in a dehydrator. Dried figs can be stored for six to eight months."

There's another oddity here. Jesus was entering Jerusalem and the fig tree was out of season. Fig trees are in season in the fall, so we can place this event sometime not in the fall. Indeed, if it was around Passover then it would have been spring time. And that's a problem. We know that when Jesus entered Jerusalem the week before his death palm leaves were placed on the ground. The widespread presence of palm leaves means that the Feast of Tabernacles was at hand. But the Feast of Tabernacles is held in the fall. So when did Jesus come to Jerusalem, the spring or the fall?

Interesting topic Huxley, I think there was some deception going on seems Jacob had some rudimentary knowledge of animal breeding and was somehow exploiting Laban`s ignorance by setting up a smokescreen to divert attention (I guess Laban must have had spies keeping tabs on him).

Magicians also do this when they try to keep your attention on one of their hands while quickly doing something with the other (sleight of hand) and there was a prime example of this type of deception in "King Solomon's Mines" when Captain Good and the others pretended to kill the moon when in fact, they actually knew a Lunar eclipse was about to happen.

I wouldn't put that beyond Jacob as the bible actually described him as some kind of smart ass deceptive kind of guy. Remember he skinned his brother of his birthright in a scenario similar to modern day uncontrolled capitalism.
Are you implying that Jacob is a fraud? This looks like fraud to me grin grin, but what really is the message behind or meaning of this? The old testament is really a disgrace to open minded Christains.
