Hello, fellow Chelsea fans. This is my view of our season. I'd appreciate constructive inputs- particularly regarding how to strengthen the team for next season CHELSEA 2011-12 REVIEW One word to describe this season- CRAZY! The Lows- Finishing a lowly 6th position in the EPL! ( our lowest since 2002- Pre-Abramovich) This sucks big time. Sacking Ancelloti (in the Newcastle tunnel, allegedly!) at the end of the 2010-11 season instead of a player 'clean-out' was an error. The Blueprint for a poor 2011-12 was already in place after a trophyless campaign in that season. So many players were past their prime. Just 2 victories against the top 5 ( Man City at home, Newcastle away) in 10 games says it all! AVB- he inherited an impossible job because of the reasons above. His motor- mouth didn't help matters! Cardinal sin- losing the Dressing room. When you do this as a Manager, your days are numbered! The last straw was the away defeat at West Brom in early March- this, on the back of 9 games in which we only won once! -our poorest run in many years! This effectively put paid to our title aspirations. There was only one outcome from all this. He was duly sacked! Abysmal- losing 3 times in a season to a poor Liverpool side( twice at home!) we got the last laugh though!( beating then in the final of the FA Cup- hit where it hurts most!) throwing a 3 goal lead away against Manchester United ( Webb- assisted)- that draw felt like a defeat. Losing 1-0 to QPR away- and finishing the game with 9 men. The infamous Terry- Ferdinand incident also occurred in this match. Conceding 5 against Arsenal at Stamford Bridge- which used to be a fortress! The Highs- Di Matteo's appointment as Chelsea's interim Manager after AVB's sack. Oh, what a master stroke this was with the benefit of hindsight! Our season was nothing short of calamitous before his appointment. This was uncharted territory for us. If you must venture into uncharted waters make sure you have a sober captain to make sure you don’t end up shipwrecked somewhere. Boy, he did steer the ship brilliantly! 4 consecutive wins- including victories against Birmingham ( FA cup q/ finals) and that famous victory against Napoli at home( q/ finals Champions League) and the rocking ship was steadied! . We subsequently went on to win the FA cup and, against all odds, the Champions League- seeing off a great Barca side in the semi- final and winning the finals on penalties with a depleted side on Bayern's soil. If this isn't Character then I don't know what the meaning of the word is! The future- Drogba has just announced that he's leaving. I think this legend deserves a statue at Stamford Bridge for what he's done for the club! Players that should leave too- we need a major overhaul of the playing personnel. In my opinion, the following should go- Salomon Kalou, Jose Bosingwa ( indeed these two have just confirmed that they are leaving) Paolo Ferreira, Florent Malouda, Michael Essien- they are no longer good enough to wear the Chelsea shirt Players that should be sent on loan- Daniel Sturridge, Oriol Romeu, Romelu Lukaku, Ross Turnbull Players we should buy- we have a stuffed schedule next season- we'll be playing in the European Supercup and the World Club cup- apart from the busy domestic schedule and the Champions League. Hence the need to strengthen the squad ( apart from our dismal league showing this season!). Also 2 of Abramovich's wishes were winning the CL(achieved) and to play attractive football( not quite there yet) To achieve his second wish- we need: A creative midfielder- all our current midfielders, bar Lampard and Mata, are ball winners and passers who are not so effective in the opponent's half. This explains the overuse of Mata and his below par performance for much of 2012 due to burn- out. Lampard, though still useful particularly in big games, is not a 30+ games a season player anymore due to age. Hence we welcome Genk's Kevin De Bruyne and Werder Bremen's Marko Marin ( both already signed for Chelsea) to solve this problem. . Strikers- it is common knowledge that I'm in love with Napoli's Edison Cavanni and Ath. Madrid's Roberto Falcao. ( I've even featured the latter on my blog on a few occasions) I pray my wish comes true for at least one of these men! Pacy winger- to help to spread play and feed the strikers. Bilbao's Markel Sussaeta and Iker Munain, Lille's Eden Hazard, and Juventus's Milosz Krasic come to mind here. ? Gareth Bale to do some 'damage' on the left side of midfield with his pace! Abramovich did say " this is just the beginning!" to the boys in the dressing room after our triumph in Munich. To this I say to the Opposition: be afraid!, be very afraid!! Nobody has been more deserving of a Statue than the top Drogba. Achievements in his time at Chelsea and outside football: Drogba has scored more goals for Chelsea than any other foreign player- 103 in 223 appearances He is the only player to score in seven English Cup finals( scoring the decisive goals in '05, 07-Carling Cup, 07,'10, '12-FA Cup, 05- Community Shield) Top scorer Premiership-2007 & 2010, highly instrumental in 3 Premiership wins for the club-05, 06, '10., Scored decisive goals in our successful 2012 Champions League campaign- the only goal in our home leg win against Barcelona, the equaliser against Bayern ( to literally bring us back from the dead) and the winning spot- kick in the subsequent Penalty shoot out . He won 10 trophies in his 8 year stay at the club Drogba is a god among Chelsea faithfuls African footballer of the year -06, 09. Among Time Mag. top 100 people in 2010. The guy even stopped a 5- year old civil war in his country almost single- handedly in 2006 and a stadium( his first French amateur clubside's) is named after him!! Dicier Drogba- Legend, great guy, big game player, Chelsea Hero, the Lamb who took away Chelsea's shame! I've run out of adjectives to describe this wonderful guy. |
Just wondering why Patience Jonathan is called a Dame. I'd like to think that this title is bestowed by the Queen of England. The latter would 'run for cover', if she listens to her grammatical 'scud missiles', rather than make her a Knight! 'Onibon Oje' Patience or 'Tabon Tabon' Patience would be a better title! ![]() |
Dear Lord, Let this cup( of failure against Barcelona) pass away from us! The holy book did say that money answereth all things- however this vexed question of Barca is becoming the stuff of nightmares, despite all our spending power! Cure this affliction of inferiority complex- whenever we play against them, ditto for Ronaldo. Meet Ime Udoka Ime who? He is the Nigerian American basketball player(33) who Nia Long(40) is having a baby with. Apparently, he's pretty lousy on the basketball court and was waived by the San Antonio Spurs in January this year-He averaged just a little under a point a game last season for the Spurs! However he brought his A-skills to Nia's table, ran a good game on her and got her all boo'd up-check out the smile on her face in the pix below. What galls me every time is the religious spin that my people put on wrongdoings and failings in the society. If somebody has performed below par, what you get is 'let's pray for him to improve'. How about let's boot his crappy behind out? If a public officer has stolen money, it's 'let's pray that he'll return the money or that he won't do so again'. How about let's put him in prison?-do the crime, do the time These sanctimonious and sentimental views are holding us back big time!. |

Before Messi, there was Romario Romario De Souza Faria-described by Cruyff as 'the genius of the goal area'. The ultimate 'fox in the box'. In the '93/'94 season Romario scored an astonishing 30 goals in 34 games for Barcelona. His partnership with Stoichkov was legendary. No player was better at the lobbed goal than Romario. I think his best goal was the audacious effort against Real Sociedad ('93/94 season). After craftily beating the offside trap he controlled the ball with his chest and without looking at the goal-instinctively knowing that the keeper was off his line-he lobbed the ball over him into the net. Check out his stats(App/goals) in the Premiership: '07-08=33/24 ,'08-09= 24/14, '09-10=22/18, '10-11=23/9 Jan-May '11(Chelsea)=14/1. Stats. don't lie!. Granted it wasn't his fault that he was overpriced and Chelsea took the bait, but he was bought to SCORE GOALS!. He failed miserably in this task and he has to take some of the flak for this nightmarish season. Of course, if he had brought the goal we won't even be having ths discussion; but he has not! and that is difficult to take. He hasn't added much to the team either-compare him to a certain Wayne Rooney, and you'll see what I mean. When Rooney had his personal goal drought he was still 'untouchable' in the first team because he was bringing other players into play and creating loads of scoring opportunities for his team mates. Saying 'Torres has played in the league and knows what it takes' is not enough either-because the soul may be willing but the flesh( or legs) is weak. Torres has not been the same player since his knee surgery in April 2010. Building our title challenge, next season, around him is a big No-No By the way, who're you calling fickle? The problem is, how do you define 'troubled spots'? It's a bigger problem than the NYSC; it's about good governance. Law &order should reign in any civilised society. If crimes go unpunished then you encourage more crime. It should be 'Do the crime, do the time' Also, politicians should stop stealing and sharing billions from the national treasury, they should concentrate on improving their constituents' lives. My fellow true Blues. The Fernando case is a big headache. He is as useless as a bucket on the Titanic . Indeed, I was so frustrated that I posted this Note on my FB profile earlier on in the season. Fernando who? by Abiodun Bale on Thursday, 14 April 2011 at 10:17 (On Facebook- Notes) Fernando Torres's multimillion pound move- from Liverpool to Chelsea-is gradually becoming the stuff of nightmares! 11 games, 693 minutes of football, no goals-simply no bueno. That's Spanish for not good. One wonders when this barren run will end. He has contributed nothing to a Chelsea attack line- which is as potent as a popgun this season- and he is gradually turning into one of the biggest big-money transfer flops in football history. Even a certain Wayne Rooney's contribution to his team was priceless when he had a personal goal drought. You can't say the same about Mr Torres. What is even more galling is his body language-his attitude is as endearing as the Ebola virus! ![]() After the Shevchenko debacle one would've thought that Chelsea learnt a lesson or two about buying players; obviously not! :-( . Torres's purchase is becoming as meaningless and useless as tits on a bull! ). Kanu Nwankwo retires from international football Fans paid tribute to former Nigeria captain Nwankwo Kanu during his testimonial game in Lagos earlier today. The match was between the Super Eagles and the Rest of the World XI. It ended 3-1 in favour of the Super Eagles. Kanu played for both sides-scoring the first goal for the Super Eagles. The most decorated footballer in the history of Nigerian football ( he was U-17, Nigerian league, Olympic, Champions league,UEFA Super Cup, Intercontinental Cup, Erendivisie, Premiership & FA cup champion, two-time African player of the year) , Papilo played 87 times for his country-scoring 14 times. Who can forget that beautiful equaliser against Brazil - Olympics '96 or the 'one-man show' against Chelsea in '99(where he scored a hat-trick) . 'Papilo i sabi say one day you go make us proud'(remember that Peak milk advert where his screen Mum foretold his greatness in pidgin English?) 16/09/10-Five members of the National Youth Service Corps, four female and one male, were last night, at about 11.30 pm, abducted by unknown gunmen at Corpers’ Lodge at Unuogha Community Secondary school in Omuma Local Government area of Rivers State. 07/06/11-Five members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in Rivers State have been abducted. The corps members, including four females and one male were said to have been whisked away by gunmen somewhere at Omademe in Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state while on the way to their place of primary assignment. Has anybody spotted this eerie coincidence? Does anyone know what happened to those kidnapped in September 2010? Kidnappers are taking over Rivers state. What is Gov. Rotimi Amaechi doing about this? I hear he is one of the 'performing' Governors. |

People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel. This Barca team makes us feel good about the beautiful game. With Guardiola calling the shots from the bench you’d be foolish to bet against this team in today’s final. If there was one weakness of great Barca teams of old, it was in defence. Guardiola has largely eliminated this by his obsession with his players closing down their opponents in organised packs. At age 40, Guardiola stands on the brink of winning his second Champions League trophy. Sir Alex Ferguson had to wait till he was 57 to win his first and Arsene Wenger is still waiting at the age of 61!. He(Guardiola) has already won an unprecedented sextuple with this club (in 2009)-La Liga,copa Del Rey, Champions league, Spanish Super cup, UEFA Super cup and FIFA Club World cup This chap is still barely in his middle age-mind-blowing :-O The ‘Usual suspects’- in today's final Andres Iniesta- you won’t believe how much this chap is revered in Spain!. The Spanish press call him Don Andres. He finds passes with consummate ease, his movement and ability to create space is awesome. He also has an eye for goals. Hear former teammate Eto’o: ‘’whenever Iniesta is on the pitch, he creates a spectacle." Xavi- Quite simply the best midfielder in modern football, and one of the greatest 'centre' midfielders of all time. While virtually never relinquishing possession, he creates countless goals through his legendary vision, reads the game beautifully and chips in his own fair share of goals too-player! Messi- There is no athlete on earth greater than Lionel Messi right now. I make this bold submission without any qualms. Often, you struggle to find the superlatives to describe this mercurial player!. This season, he has 52 goals and 24 assists in 54 games to his credit-Phenomenal! . You’d be silly to bet on him not adding to this impressive tally at Wembley today!. He is simply the jewel in the Barca crown. The variable which you can’t really control. If life’s a box of chocolates, he’s the guy who bought the box and is still deciding whether to sample the goods or just leave it sitting on his coffee table for his nephew-that’s how talented this fella is :-) Puyol- the captain, intensely commitment and rugged as a defender. Goes about his defensive duties with panache. Club fans refer to him as "The Wall" Pique-developed greatly as a defender since leaving ManU where he was a bit part player. Strong, athletic and capable of scoring the odd goal too. Gives all for the cause. If somebody will break his nose or gash his head for the Barca agenda-you don’t have to be a Rocket scientist to guess that it will be Pique. His beautiful girlfriend-Shakira-also gives him rockstar credibility!. Well, sorta :-) David Villa -nicknamed El Guaje (The Kid) not quite reached the phenomenal heights of his Valencia days. If his performances in a Barca shirt were “bosoms” he’d be Omotola Jalade- not a lot there, but enough to notice :-). Which means he can still hurt you on his day! Today Jack(Barca) and Jill(ManU) will go up the hill. At the end of the day, you’ll only see Jack on the hill, cos Jill would have been knocked off :-) |

Yes, he got the news of the sack, from the Chelsea Chief Executive, in the Goodison Park tunnel following his post match press conference!. It's a shame that his time in Chelsea had to end in this way but, hey!- Sh*t happens. If you are elevated there comes a day when you are demoted.-Alan Clark Do I pity him? No I don't. These are some of the reasons why: He is paid well-To whom much is given, much is expected. With a £6million-a-year salary (only Capello earns more as a Manager in England) more was expected from him. Chelsea is not Arsenal- I often wonder how Wenger has kept his job till now. Lucky him!. We've got a ruthless Russian in charge at the Blues.Winning means everything to him( and that is not such a bad thing, by the way!) .Don't let that casual dress-down look on march day fool you!. You don't become a billionaire by adopting the jelenke (easy-going) approach to issues. He lost the dressing room- cardinal sin if you're a manager. His selections suggest this. The untouchables always get to play even if they continually underperform( think Lampard) while the fringe players are dropped for something as little as having a poor 45 minutes(think David Luiz-vs ManU at old Trafford). Young players rarely get a look in(think Sturridge before his loan move to Bolton).This can only mean that he was too much of a nice guy to ruffle overrated feathers or he let the so-called senior players dictate team selections-bad move!. You don't have this mentality while your boss is a certain Roman A.!. No plan B-He was outthought, outfoxed, outmanoeuvred by the oposition gaffer in too many games this season. He simply had no plan B(think the 0-3 home loss to Sunderland!, the loss to Everton at home in the FA cup) This should not be in the character of a top class manager paid megabucks Failing to deliver the 'holy Grail'- The Champions league- Preferisco La Coppa ("I prefer the cup" –Ancellotti said these were the words of Abramovich to him after their secret meeting in 2008-long before he was hired. It is an open secret that Abramovich is obsessed with winning the Champions league. Ancelotti failed in delivering the' big one'.Infact, he failed in delivering anything this season.The double he won last season seems so long ago now!. Life's a b*tch :-(If your pikin fail, no be repeat he go repeat?-words alledgedly uttered by Sir Gabriel Igbinedion-when asked about his son's (Lucky )underperformance.
