Yeligray:You can say that again. Would have been have been fascinating to see him play at Madrid though. |
Is the picture below any strange? That could have been a reality if some things had happened according to Lionel Messi's former agent who brought the then little boy from Argentina to Spain. Horacio Gaggioli, aided Messi's move to Barcelona in 2001, but said things could have been different if he had gotten a residence in Madrid as planned, but things changed and he ended up living at Barcelona. "Due to life circumstances, I went to live in Barcelona and I brought him to Barca for a trial. But I was about to live in Madrid," Gaggioli told Globoesporte. "If that had happened, I would have taken him to Madrid for a trial. That's life, those are the details. "Today, Messi could have been a Real Madrid player, of course. The family wanted to come to Spain, to the city where I was to have some support." Messi moved to Barca after having trials at the club. At first, Barca mauled over signing the youngster. Barcelona however ended up giving him a contract which was famously signed on a napkin. Since signing his first contract in 2001 and making his debut in 2004, the Argentine has rewritten football history in a lot of ways. The slim possibility that Messi could have signed for Madrid raises the likelihood that he could have played alongside his arch rival, C. Ronaldo, and other Madrid legends like Zidane, Figo and many others. Source: http://www.realmadridfocus.com/2017/06/lionel-messi-could-have-played-for-real.html

The former Liverpool player and manager believes Manchester United players are letting down manager José Mourinho. United, currently sixth on the table, are eight points behind fourth place Arsenal and eleven behind Chelsea. The team have drawn their last four home matches, despite being the best team in most of those games. United have struggled to covert chances to goals, scoring three goals from over 90 shots in their last four home games. Adding to the frustration of his side's lack of goals, Mourinho was sent to the stands in United's last Premier League match against West Ham, after he kicked a water bottle and faces a fresh charge from the FA. Souness says the caliber of players at Old Trafford should be achieving better results than they are currently, while suggesting that Mourinho still doesn't know his best eleven. "In terms of football, I think he is being let down by his players. “That group of players should have more points in the bag than they have so far." Souness said via The Daily Star. " I thought Man United would be flying, but we’re nearly in December and I don’t think Jose knows his strongest XI. “He’s still scratching for that and not getting results. “What you are looking for as a manager is players to say, ‘you can’t leave me out. “I don’t think Man United players are making that statement." Difficult to disagree with the former Liverpool boss on this. The time is right for the United players to take some responsibility for the team's below par results. Some players haven't been clinical enough in front of goal on a number of occasions. While Mourinho makes the selection, it's still up to the players to get the job done on the pitch. United will be hoping for a change of fortune when they host West Ham for the second time in three days. This time in the quarterfinals of the EFL Cup on Wednesday. The Manchester United manager is reportedly willing to bring Chelsea's Mikel Obi to Old Trafford, and could make a move in January. The Nigerian midfielder signed for Mourinho's Chelsea back in 2006 amidst controversy involving Manchester United, his former team Lyn Oslo and agent John Shittu. The then 19 year old midfielder who had signed for Manchester United claimed he signed for United under duress and latter claimed wanted to move to Chelsea. The issue was settled and the player moved to London. The midfielder is however facing thought times at the London club as he is yet to feature under new manager Antonio Conte this season, and Mourinho is looking at exploiting his current situation at the club. According to The Sun, Chelsea are unwilling to extend Mikel's contract which runs out at the end of the season and Mourinho could get the player for cheap in January, few months before he becomes available for free. Mikel is one of the few players that have survived and thrived under all mangers that have managed the London club since his arrival a decade ago but it appears his stay at Chelsea is coming to an end. Manchester United will hope to return to winning ways when they face arch rivals Liverpool on Monday night at Anfield. United could only manage a 1-1 home draw Stoke City before the International break. José Mourinho's men have already lost to City at home in the first round of the Manchester derbies this season, with another coming up next week, though in the EFL Cup. Another defeat to a top team in the League will raise more questions about Mourinho and the immediate future of his newly assembled United side. For United currently only a few players are guaranteed starters. De Gea starts in goal unquestionably. Valencia comes in at right back. Smalling and Bailly looks perfect on paper at centre back. There's the debate on who should be United's starting left back with the recent performances of Daley Blind matching up if not exceeding Shaw. I'll give Shaw my yes. He starts ahead of Blind. The midfield is another position of debate. The partnership of Pogba and Herrera looks promising and I expect José to stick with the duo, with clear instructions to Pogba to restrict his forward movement as not to leave to much gap for the Liverpool forward players to run into. Juan Mata starts ahead of Rooney and Mkhitaryan with one of the duo making a substitute appearance. Martial seem to be gradually rediscovering his form with his recent performances and goal against Stoke. He gets to start on the left side of the attack. United need much pace, speed and movement upfront to open a Liverpool defence that has been their most vulnerable department this season. What Martial can do on the left, Rashford can do on the right. Rashford for me gets to start on the right side of the attack ahead of Lingard. Rashford brings directness, precision and bite into the attack. Zlatan leads the line once again. That's my most preferred starting eleven, what's yours? José Mourinho led his Manchester United team into their hotel in Liverpool on Sunday night ahead of the team's crucial Monday night meeting with The Reds. United head into a vital stage of the season with top matches in different competitions coming within the next two weeks. United host Fenerbahce on Thursday, before travelling to Chelsea on Sunday and them host neighbours City in the EFL Cup next Wednesday. The duo of Luke Shaw and Henrikh Mkhitaryan are back in training, Mourinho confirmed in his press conference ahead of the game. And it is expected that at least one of them will be in the squad. According to M.E.N , seventeen players in the travelling squad were pictured, meaning the identity of three players in the squad remain unknown. Here are the players caught on camera: De Gea, Romero, Johnstone, Valencia, Fosu- Mensah, Bailly, Smalling, Blind, Carrick, Herrera, Lingard, Pogba, Mata, Young, Rooney, Rashford, Ibrahimovic. It will be interesting to see how Mourinho lines up his team against Klopp's high pressing side. Source: www.mufcmetro.com/2016/10/med-manchester-united-squad-vs-liverpoo.html?m=1 |
Manchester United face a crucial month of October that could have a huge impact on the team's overall output for the season. José Mourinho's United started the season on a bright note with four straight wins (which included a Community Shield triumph over Champions Leicester City) followed by three straight defeats. The team picked up form again with three straight victories only to start the month of October with their only draw of the season (against Stoke City) so far. In most Premier League seasons, nothing much can be deduced from a team's performance before the December-January transition, as that is usually where and when Champions are made and a lot of things settled in the League. For United however, that determining period may be now. The team currently lies sixth on the table with 13 points from seven games (a possible 21 points), five points behind early leaders: neighbours Manchester City means United can't afford to drop much points as a lot have been dropped within their first seven League games of the season. Here's a look at United's remaining fixtures for October and how it could affect the team's season. Liverpool Vs Manchester United (October 17) United travel to Anfield to face a high flying confident Liverpool side that are currently third on the table. Such a crunchy match coming after the international break would make team selections a little tricky for both managers. Mourinho has already had a bad taste of the international break as his team lost his first Manchester derby to another arch rival in Pep Guardiola after the last international break. Mourinho himself contributed to the defeat stating two players (Jesse Lingard and Henrikh Mkhitaryan) whose physical and fitness were questionable for a match of such intensity. Something he admitted after the game The Special One will be mindful of such selection against a Liverpool side that don't have European engagement like United who will be hosting Turkish giants Fenerbahçe in another key match against three days after. The match against Liverpool is a must win or one the team must not lose to maintain a touching distance with the teams above them. A defeat could widen the gap between United and City to eight if the Citizens get a win in their own match. Trailing the table toppers with eight points in October is a bad one for a team of United's ambitions. Manchester United vs Fenerbahçe (October 20) The Europa League is not United's choice European competition but been knocked out in the first round would be an embarrassment. Three points from their first two games looks averagely decent, but considering the level of opposition, then one can argue that the team could have done better. The match against the Turkish giant would have a huge effect on United's qualification hopes. A defeat by the Robin Van Persie led Fenerbache and a victory for Feyenoord in the other group's match would mean more hard work for United to guarantee their qualification. The match is one United can't afford to lose. Another tough game for United in October. Chelsea Vs Manchester United (October 23) The fixture against Mourinho's former team will be United's third game in seven days. A Chelsea vs Manchester United fixture doesn't need more drama than this. José Vs his former team, players and employers. This time last season, the Portuguese was under immense pressure with his London side massively underperforming as defending champions. There were theories that the Chelsea's players were the main architect of their manager's sack with some believing José's end began after the row with team doctor Eva. José would have put all that behind him now, but expect the dust of history to be brought up when United visit the bridge. Chelsea under new manager Conte haven't been superb. The two teams are currently tied on the same points with United on top by virtue of a superior goal difference. Depending on United's result against Liverpool, this match is also one United can't afford to lose, putting aside Mourinho's hidden intention to get one over his former team. A victory over Liverpool will ease the pressure on United going into this match. A defeat or draw against the Kops makes this match a must win. By the end of the game against the Blues, United would have played Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea in the League and expect the results of these games to form a strong basis for judging Mourinho at United so far. Van Gaal had the record of not losing much games to his top rivals and Mourinho understands that he must continue in that tradition. Losing these two games can widen the gap between United and city to eleven or lesser. Manchester United vs Manchester City ( A Cup Derby) October 26. The F.A Cup and EFL Cup present United a shorter route to silverware this season but City in the fourth round of the EFL cup would be more than a cup match. The first version of the José Mourinho vs Pep Guardiola clash was won by the Manchester City boss at Old Trafford in the League. And this time, expect United to go all out for a revenge. A defeat for United means outrightly losing one chance of a silverware and losing it to the next door neighbour will make it more painful. The tie at Old Trafford is like an advantage for United, one that must be utilized to the maximum. As always a game against City is a must win for United. United end the month with a league match against Burnley at Old Trafford. In all it promises to be a fascinating and breath taking October for United. One that could decide a lot of things. Zlatan Ibrahimovic's super agent Mino Raiola has revealed that the 34 year old jokingly threatened to break his legs if he (Raiola) didn't work out the Paul Pogba to Manchester United deal earlier in the summer. Both players share the same agent, and United signed Zlatan first on a free transfer from PSG. The Paul Pogba deal delayed into the start of the season as both clubs failed to reach an agreement on time, though it always appeared certain that a deal would happen. United ended up signing the Frenchman, but after Ibra had threatened Raiola. “This summer he [Ibrahimovic] said to me, ‘Don’t let Pogba go anywhere else or I will break your legs!’” Raiola revealed. Pogba scored his first goal for United in the 4-1 victory over Leicester City this weekend and will be hoping for more goals and solid performance after a tough second start to his United career.
