FutureFocus: Bros,I have spent all evening reading everything posted here and will make a short contribution here. Bolded one was the best decision you took. If you had followed it up with action this matter would have long been dead and buried. I must say that the way you even offered the refund was super. I wish you had carried it out. In response to the second bolded I can tell you that the time and energy coupled with the anxiety us the unnecessary publicity you have garnered is even more expensive than whatever you would have lost. You see, online sales in Nigeria is still a questionable course. People rely on referrals and antecedence more than anything else. You have inadvertently built a reputation now as a difficult and unrelenting seller. Many people are going to be a bit wary in dealing with you going forward. The third bolded...... I would never be in your shoe. I would have refunded the woman so soon she would have been shocked. I know when to cut my losses rather than fund them. You Sir are funding your losses to the third degree. Finally, your going to the police station was a terrible move. It can't end well. Would it be possible for you to wake up early tomorrow morning and call the Madam, make a refund and call a truce. You would be he better person and I assure you it will give you a better profile. Just trying to make some sense here. 10 Likes |

michlins: Bros, I really don't want to get too deeply involved in this but...... I am happy you mentioned the issue of full disclosure. Any good lawyer would make you see that refusal to disclose fully all features could be seen as a deliberate attempt to 'scam'. The semantics can be visited and analysed but the truth stands apart. In purchasing technology be it soft or hard, there are usually some very specific details which in the majority of cases are secondary to the everyday peripheral user. Let's take the case of a Smart T.V for instance, the varied and many features make it very difficult for a regular like like me to decide what I want so my best bet is inclining to age and price which may not be the case. In buying stuff from here I must say that the adverts and the antecedence of the seller is a good indication of how fluid the transaction will be. People go the whole way in describing their product and stating the negatives. That is what is called integrity...which unfortunately some of us lack. You for instance sell doors. Are you aware that many people who seek to buy doors from you in the future will conduct a little research by reading your previous posts? I would most definitely not part with my hard earned money just by reading one very loud sentence you made up there...or perhaps will only pay you after delivery and installation followed by due certification. Pls be very careful with what you post. You are a business man. Enough said. 14 Likes |

Alvin007: What he did Sir amounts to the same thing. When a buyer makes a purchase pls look beyond the physical item..or service but pay attention to the intangible. All our purchases are targeted at achieving a particular 'feeling' which brings a sens e of satisfaction. Would you in all honesty say that the buyer achieved her money's worth of this desired feeling? 12 Likes |

Food / Re: Nigerians To Pay More For Bread As Russia-Ukraine War Rages by Bionica: 10:39am On Feb 28, 2022 |
AfroKnight: Bread prices are not increased and even fixed arbitrarily. There is a cascading process that permeates the entire supply chain. Wheat is imported with forex, milled into flour using equipments whose parts are sourced with forex. The operation is even supervised by expatriate professionals paid using forex. The flour is then transported using imported diesel to the market and thee baker then buys at wherever price competition places the product at. He then buys other products like butter (imported), yeast (imported), preservative (imported) packaging (imported) runs his generator with ported petrol and repairs his imported equipment with imported spare parts. He must still pay salaries, deal with NAFDAC, state govt. Local Govt......and yet still turn a profit. Perhaps you should get closer to bakers......you could then understand their pain. Mind you, bakeries are closing down everyday. |
Food / Re: Nigerians To Pay More For Bread As Russia-Ukraine War Rages by Bionica: 10:29am On Feb 28, 2022 |
Szdorf: Your post smacks of bitterness and it is lacking in objectivity. Wheat is not of the same species globally. Millers use different variables in deciding which specie of wheat they prefer to import. Some of these millers (the really big ones) have gone ahead to establish their own gargantuan farms in wheat friendly countries. While Canadian wheat does account for some our wheat imports if is by no means the highest, as a matter of fact they are not even the second largest partners in this regard. USA is our largest wheat supplier followed by Russian farmers. Canada is a distant third. China is recent making serious inroads in the wheat supply chain. Please also note that the volume o import keeps changing to reflect the changing dynamics of he business especially the profitability component. |

Bionica: There is a Trainee Sales position I have been asked to fill. The role is to be filled by a smart graduate with the right attitude (we are also open to less qualified candidates who are committed to performance). The job function will be to; 1. Create and sustain a customer base of 500 retail outlets (small supermarkets) in Lagos. 2. Managing these customers with a view to ensuring continued patronage on a biweekly basis. 3. Follow-up activity on new and potential outlets in new and emergent business territories. 4. Consistently update an online database and resource tool while providing daily reports to the dedicated group platform. This is a field job and requires 8-10 hours daily (6 days per week) on the road visiting outlets. The preferred candidate will work with a team consisting a Supervisor, Retail Specialist and Driver. The salary will range from 30k to 100k inclusive of incentives. Commencement is almost immediately. I would really like someone from this thread to land this role. However, I can only make recommendations but the interview as organised by the employer will be the final determining factor. Should there be anyone who is interested in this role right here please indicate by quoting this post and explaining why you consider yourself the best fit for the job. This priority offer being given to Nairalanders is open up till the 30th April 2021. |

Career / Re: My Experience After Working For About Five Years. by Bionica: 4:13pm On Jan 02, 2021 |
Lush100: Your insights are quite instructive just as your sincerity is commendable. I normally wouldn't comment but I am driven by the above attributes. Consider this my new year gift to you. Nairaland has proven over the years to be a reliable vestibule of ideas. All you need to do is to take your search seriously as one conducting an academic research. Several businesses have been undertaken and the experiences documented here. Most of them especially those recounted by fresh graduates are quite detailed and 'show working' from scratch. I have experimented on a few of them and can tell you that I am happy with them. What I think you need is an FMCG product that you can import from Lagos into your town and resell as fast as possible. The solution lies in a hot consumable that has significant daily demand and is perishable. Several examples abound even here on Nairaland business section. Just to buttress my point pls note the following illustrations. 1. Yale bread is the fastest moving mini bread in this country......... and perhaps beyond. It is made in Ibadan and yet it is eaten as far out as Maiduguri, Yola and Kebbi. You can find it in Prom, Jalingo and even Dutse. People are moving this product up a down and making millions daily. Wonderful product, low margins but also minimal risk. 2. Eggs are a great business. I can't say more than that but trust me this is another consistent earner. 3. Ever heard of Chiki-Chiki noodles? Yes it's a smaller company but surprisingly their noodles has never ever met demand. And guess what....the margins are far better than the market leader in that segment. 4. Snacks supply to local supermarkets is also a money spinner if you choose the products carefully. 5. My most recent cash cow has been bread distribution. If you design and implement your strategy right it's one of the most profitable businesses you can imagine. The profit margins are so minuscule that a lot of people don't even bother. However, the initiated know that the 5% profit margin on bread can be achieved 3 - 4 times a week. So the your capital can earn 100% net profit within two weeks to one month. The above are just a few examples that I can quickly bring up. Should this interest you and you seek further info, I am willing to provide as much as I can within the confines of my personal experience and of course observation of others. Mention your location and I can advance you some suggestions as regards what could possibly sell. You could then try a follow-up by experimenting directly. I hope this contribution will help you in some realistic measure. Good luck Bro and all the best in 2021. 8 Likes 1 Share |

Jobs/Vacancies / How To Overcome The Post Covid-19 Lockdown Recession Recession by Bionica: 2:05pm On Apr 24, 2020 |
This thread is targeting the unemployed and those who have recently lost their jobs and are desirous of making sure they have at least a basic daily income after the COVID-19 break. It would have been very obvious to many people now that life is going to be very demanding in the immediate post lock-down experience. Survival will be even more difficult for those without an income. While I do not wish to be negative in my assumptions I would nonetheless postulate that a lot of already working people will lose their incomes and then companies that were about recruiting are going to have a second thought about it which will result in some delays. Apart from the imminent downsizing, there will also be significant pay cuts in every industry. The entire gamut consisting of salaries, commissions, bonuses will be reviewed downwards to reflect the economic trend. This may be a temporary measure as things are likely to pick up again after a while. This will put more pressure on the system as people must still eke out a living despite all odds. So how prepared are you to face the challenges that this scenario will present? This question even becomes more relevant for the unemployed and underemployed members of our population. This thread should be able to identify a few things that you can involve in that will bring you some survival money immediately after the lock-down is lifted. Please note that my suggestions here will only capture small and micro efforts that will probably not yield more than 500.00 to 1,000 and maybe 2,000 daily. I am however consoled by the fact that if someone earns the lower limit (500.00) consistently it will translate into 3,000 per week and 12,000 per month. This would not be considered bad if one is to view it from a modest perspective especially if the immediate past earning was zero Naira. By way of summary, I don’t think we will be offering solutions to the big guys here. We will only be dealing with the people who are at the end of the earning tether. The best approach from my experience is to start out selling something in your neighbourhood. I have gone through a thread here on Nairaland that carried out an expose on eggs distribution. It was a wonderful thread while it lasted. Eggs are consumed in quite a large number especially in the metropolitan cities in Nigeria. Of course it looks like a most basic trade but if you have the good fortune to meet sincere distributors of this product you will be shocked at the volume that is consumed and by extension the profits the distributors make. This is even made more attractive by the fact that it is an unregulated market so you have entrants welcome into the business at different levels. Your best bet is to start out small. Seek out new poultry farmers who seek off-takers for their products. Then gradually build up a customer base that can be increased steadily everyday. I used to think that a car is a necessity for you to start this trade but I found out that for those starting small you really do not need a car initially. You can have the farmer deliver the eggs to you at your location and then you can begin to redistribute the eggs in your immediate neighbourhood. Eventually, most of your customers will seek you out and will even come to pick the eggs. Another option which may be very profitable for you is where the egg farmer located upcountry sends you eggs with his truck and you now act as a broker. This implies that you would have negotiated with large buyers and when the eggs arrive your location you and the driver will just distribute the eggs to the customers and collect cash. You then deposit the money into the farmers account after deducting your own predetermined commission. I have seen this model in action and I must say it is beautiful. A former colleague of mine has eggs sent to him from the outskirts of Ibadan. He gets about 2000 dozens once a week and he sells to his distributors who are in a particular area of Lagos and he gets cash. He is given 20.00 per crate which translates to 20.00 x 2000 crates. Do the math and see if this is a profitable venture. Meanwhile, bear in mind that this is a once a week episode and it takes less than 8 hours to complete the entire transaction. It is important that I mention here that before I arrived at this eggs distribution business as a possible model for those who seek a consistent income I have done extensive research on the eggs business. I have even visited some Nairalanders here who started out small and now have reasonable sized egg depots within Lagos. Some of them that I personally witnessed their starting out have made a great showing in this business and with little capital too. Of course there will be some cons and intrigues in the business but honestly it is worth trying. I also understand that this is just about the best time of the year to start the eggs business. The most important thing to do here is to 1. Decide if this business is for you. 2. Conduct a small but in-depth research on the business taking due cognizance of your environment and your present circumstances. 3. Take action by starting small and building up. Good luck! My next post will examine another area where small timers can actually make an entrance and begin to draw benefits immediately. 2 Likes |
