Nice one.

Its like these Bandits don't give a fvck. They don't even care whether Hausa people are protesting or not, they just do their normal business.

Anyways, let every "Nigerian" join there hands to quench the imaginary fire in SE. Let's go and kill the terrorist ESN because SE and her people are those that matter more.

Oyigboupdate, give us one ESN news

What exactly is the difference between Ijaw and Igbo?

There many people we now regard as Igbos whose forefathers came from Ijaw villages and there are Ijaws today whose ancestors came from igbo villages.

Both the Ijaw and Igbo identities as we know them today were recently fabricated social groups created by the British Colonial Masters for the purpose of identifications largely based on perceived similarities in languages, culture and coextensive territories.
There is no single relationship between Igbo and Ijaw.
There can only be someone masquerading as Ijaw that his ancestors were Igbo (eg ASARI DOKUBO) not Igbo person that his ancestor is Ijaw. It is impossible.

Ijaw is the newest people in Nigeria. Even Fulani is older than them.
During the Slave trade, there was extremely little or no record of Ijaw in any form. Whether as Jo men or whatever.

Two of the people you listed there (Okirika and Andoni) were tributaries to Bonny.

So Jo men pirates did not displace them.
Bonny Igbo natives survived through thick and thin until lies started flying in from 1971 after the war.

Eastlink:
I support this angle or hypotesis. Ndoki dialect of Igbo was the aboriginal language but was almost displaced just like the Ibibiod language in those axis before the coming of the slave trade that saw a mass influx of Isuama dominated slaves into the Island. This move single-handedly revived the language and push the Kalabari dialect now dubiously called Ibani into submission. What Ijaw pirates couldn't achieve in Bonny/Opobo, they succeded in Brass, Nembe, Kalabari and in some sections of Okrika.

Today the Ijaw labdgrabbers led by Alagoa the fraud, are trying to push Kalabari dialect called Ibani into Bonny mainstream. "The speak Ibani initiative, the stop speaking Igbo", "the revive your Ibani mother tongue", "the stop saying biko but Ibama", etc has been part of this agenda since Adaka Boro couldn't wipe off the people during the civil war genocide.

The game is now exposed. Ndigbo over to you.
Guy from what I read from Baikie and Hugh Crow, Bonny was a very territorial and Violent Igbo city.
Bonny even made Okirika and later Andoni tributaries. Andoni was forced to a treaty to provide soldiers and canoes anytime Bonny is at war.

They said the Slaves didn't do much to their language as they maintained close ties with their Igbo kins in the hinterland.
At the end of page 336, Baikie made note that they embark on pilgrimage to Aro, and they maintained cordial relationships with Aboh and their relatives Ndoki and Ngwá.

Where Jo men who now call themselves Ijaw fit into all these things is what I don't understand.

Oga...

What does ...."coming as they first did into the Ijo country provided with no females of their own race..." mean?

Thank you.
The article started like this "Commencing with Bonny and its people, if they are of Ibo origin as ALL THE EVIDENCE OBTAINABLE APPEARS TO PROVE"

That is there is no doubt that Bonny people are of Igbo origin. No single reasonable doubt, then went ahead to lay an opinion like most of you are doing here.

But one thing you can't take off the thread is that there is no single doubt that Bonny people are of Igbo descent.

Now if you are buying the opinion, that means that you don't even recognise Pepple, his ancestors, the other Bonny Kings and the current natives as the Original inhabitants of Bonny.
You people have not said what you want.

JANK23H:
Read carefully and understand what one of you posted.
What you posted said that Okirika and Bonny are of Igbo origin and the small Ijaw words appearing on their vicinity is due to intermarriage with Ijaw women.

Is that how you people conquered the Igbo city of Bonny and turned the natives to your slaves?
Through Intermarriage?

Massive population displacements in the Niger delta is not hard to conceive.

Because of poor living conditions, It is often hard to comprehend how tiny settlements could be on the coast.

Some notable towns in the Niger delta now that Europeans mentioned centuries ago, consisted of only some families or a couple hundred people.

In these conditions, it is very possible for a couple of boats carrying some number of people to completely alter or displace original populations.
That is not the case with Bonny. Bonny by description (Baikie and Hugh Crow) has a powerful Navy, only second to Aboh and subdued Andoni.

So it is practically impossible for any group to displace such Igbo city without the whole coast hearing of it.
Jo men dared not dream of contesting with Bonny.

Abeg screenshot full length o,so I can read and access properly.

Baikie infact confirmed Ijos as the Aborigines as I said earlier. It's confusing especially to you Igbos because you do not read between the lines. You see Igbo and Bonny in a sentence and boom there is a nexus to you.

You must understand these Europeans have little understanding of the African peculiarities. An African can live at a place for years and still not be regarded as an indigene but a settler. Those Igbo slaves describes as "Bonny people" by Europeans would have been called settlers by an African writer.

I hope you understand now?
It is page 334 to 336.
Open it yourself and screenshot to your heart content.

Now tell me the page that Baikie said that Jo men neared Bonny talkless of being owners?
Bonny that was very territorial then.
Even Baikie acknowledged Aboh influence in most parts of Niger Delta, where he is occasionally stopped upon entering new territories by numbers Igbo Patrol Canoes, thus bringing down the fallacies that Igbo people disliked water.

Tell me the page and I will screenshot and upload it.

All your accounts are disjointed and confused and still connect to the Ijos as Aborigines.

No doubt, there were Igbo slaves in Bonny, and till date their children claim Bonny.

The crux of the matter is who settled there first before the influx of Igbo slaves.

Please give me something before 1508.I am tired of the disjointed things you are showing me.
LOL Igboid, Slayerforever, Ekealterego see this one oh.
So Pepple and Co are no longer the owners of Bonny. You are now looking for who inhabited the island first and 1508.
Lol. They think Baikie's book is inaccessible.

Even the Appendix part where he wrote languages, Oru and Nembe don't call God "Tamono" like Bonny but "Orisa" like other Igbo people. I believe none of them here have read that book.

They are now scared of Baikie. grin

JANK23H:
No where in that writeup did Pepple tell him Bonny are Igbos. The writer simply gave his own verdict.A thorough read should tell you he was mixing everything up.

First, they are Igbos, still they speak a language similar to the language spoken at new Calabar.A disjointed addition of Oru(Ijo). Then a mention of Okulo(Ijo name for the Curlew bird) and it's nexus to the name and history of Okuloma.

That's the rubbish you people have been holding onto?

Totally disjointed. One sentence an Ijo connection, another a supposed Igbo ancestry.

Next please...
LOL, then who supports you cliam?
The Baikie you people have been shouting since conducted an interview with Pepple and reported that Bonny People as well as Pepple himself claim Igbo descent.
Now that the receipt has been thrown at your face, you started speaking in tongues.

with Baikie down, I ask you, who supports you claim?
Name the person let me screenshot the part of the book where he boldly ascertained that Bonny is Igbo.

You have no point. If that's a problem, then bring more current Colonial document that mentioned Bonny and wrote on their Origin.
In steps Crow, Baike and Glynn.
And for all we know, all three are United in the claim that Bonny ancestors originated from Igboland. Which is why you are avoiding them and relying in an ambiguous account that never mentioned Bonny!
Baikie didn't just claim but reported the interview he had with Peppel himself who not just claimed that he and the natives are of Igbo descent but bursted the mystery surrounding the name "Peppel"

I posted the pictures from the book

An account that mentioned Bonny and was in Bonny is useless.
But the one that wasn't in Bonny and never mentioned Bonny is useful. grin
Does it get more desperate than this?

Who thrashed Crow? Let me guess, Ijaw Fraudsters led by Alagoa? cheesy
Did the person thrash Baike and Glynn too?
Because you know that both point blank said that Bonny ancestors originated from Igboland.
I've realised that these Jo men that talk about Baikie didn't read his book at all.

From page 334 to 336, Baikie met Peppel who told him the identity, how his family got the name Peppel, language and original name of Bonny.

Page 335 has been circulated here alot but many did not know that it was an interview. William Balfour Baikie interviewed Peppel live and got this answers from him.

This three pages deserve a new thread (Peppels interview by Baikie on his name, Bonny Language and identity)
