The coolant does not "cool" as such, but allows the heat to transfer out the engine more effectively than plain water. And by the way it does lubricate the water pump.
And as I mentioned before, with the proper coolant, maintained in the proper fashion you will NOT have corrosion within the engine.

So Ivvie, in my opinion you do not know what you are talking about.

        "Green Coolant" or whatever you want to call it, in northern countries it is an anti-freeze, used to stop your engine from freezing up and breaking in cold weather.
          I also stops corrosion where there are different metals within an engine such as cast iron block and aluminum head, and is quite necessary for that purpose.  Also it works as a lubricant for the water pump.
          I have used anti-freeze for many years in aluminum engines and there is NO corrosion problems if it is changed every two years or so.
           Just using straight water in the engine is NOT the way to go, even in a hot climate, a water pump lubricant should be added at the very least.

In the past, the average American car buyer did not know quality if it bit them in the ass. They just bought what the American manufactures fed them. Times have changed now, so why do you think that the Japanese products have made such great inroads in the American market?
Just look at the major American manufactures, their share of the market has been dropping over the years in favor of the Japanese cars. Quality and reliability. I have owned Japanese built cars for years, both new and used and have no complaints about any of them. (will not buy American cars) And on top of that, the Brits in the past built crap.

      If you are going to buy a Pathfinder from the U.S., remember that not all of them there are 4 wheel drive. They did have two wheel drive as far as I know.
      Also if you are going to buy one, you want to get a 2001 or later, as that is when they came out with the 3.5 L engine. This is the one that has chain driven cams, so there are no cam belts to be changed, therefore less cost to maintain.
      To be considered also, do you want manual shift or automatic? The top model was the LE and it only came with the auto trans. (which is rated at higher towing capacity than the manual)

What people should understand about car painting, is that it is not the cost of the paint alone which governs the cost of the finished product, but the preparation prior to painting.
        To do a proper paint job, much of the trim should be removed, ( bumpers, door handles and the like) if you can do this yourself, you will save money. It also depends on the condition of the existing finish and if there is body damage. If the existing finish is very poor, then it will have to be removed, so all this is time and costs money.
        If one is to do a proper job, then an estimate can not be given without seeing the car, and understanding the customers requirements.

In North America, all heavy use vehicles, such a ambulances, police cars and taxis are auto matic. Even the city buses, do you think if money could be saved that they would use auto transmisions?

China is a vast country, and it is moving ahead a very rapid pace. There are many ethnic sub groups in china, and many different customs to be found as you travel across the country.
I would suggest the best way to see the country, if one can afford it, is to go on a guided tour. I did that last year and we had a fantastic time.
Some suggest that the Chinese are a dirty people, that is a lot of nonsense. As you will find anywhere, there are poor people and rich ones, just as in Nigeria and any other country.
The people that I met were great, and the hotels that we stayed in are some of the finest in the world. I would go again anytime. Regards.

You do NOT want to leave the thermostat out of the engine. The purpose of the thermostat is to cause the engine to come up to proper operating temperature quickly. It is damaging for an engine to run cold.
Coolant added too water, helps lubricate the water pump and also prevents corrosion inside the engine. Overheating can have many causes, fan belt not tight enough, block radiator, thermostat, head gasket( will see bubbles in coolant when that happens) plus many others.

If the history of the car is unknown, I would then change all the filters and fluids in the car, and start from there. Also I would have a reliable person or shop do a safety check on the car, brakes and front end.

Each type of transmission have their place. It seems that most taxis in North America are automatic. Why? because with a number of different drivers and city traffic, it has been found they are cheaper to operate (fewer repairs). Also, you find that city buses are automatic as well.
Also, if one checks out the specifications, you will find the the manufacturer specifications for towing are higher with automatics than standard. On my Nissan, a standard is rated at 3500 lbs and an auto is rated at 5000 lbs towing capacity.
Most of us males, think we are the best drivers in the world, but in reality that is not always the case is it? So for one that is not really familiar with the manual trans, it can get quite expensive to repair. (burn out a clutch, or miss a shift once too often, and see).

Some one said: "point of correction factory fit AC does not consume fuel."
No, A/C does not use fuel, but when it is turned on, it puts a load on the engine, and therefor causes the engine to use more fuel.
You can test this when the engine is at idle, just turn on the A/C and listen to the change in the engine note. On some newer cars, the engine will even speed up slightly, this is programed in to compensate for the A/C.
You can also apply the same test to the electrical system, by turning on heavy electrical load (such as a rear window heater) and you will hear the engine change note also.
