It depends on the vehicle. A Camry is widely spread and gives you warnings or preparation (that's if you are having parts failing). Ford, Jaguar and VW's don't give warnings at all. They just break down as they like and worse, Ford engines should not be revved because it's one of the first tests the computer checks for when you bring it for service. You shouldn't redline it and also, you void your warranty.

Since you just bought your vehicle, you should carry out the major service and begin clocking from that point. Start with the plugs through to the timing belt. If it's a mechanical tensioner, you need to replace the whole thing (belt plus tensioner) as a new belt will cause the tensioner to fail a few thousand miles afterwards. You only need to change the belt if its hydraulic. If it's a chain, you don't need to worry. If it's a front wheel, check all the axles. If it's a Toyota, you need to flush the engine because it's known to sludge and lock up without warning (even with religious oil changes). I don't know about europe or other countries, but in the U.S, that's what's up with Toyota. If it's a Ford, I can only extend my sympathy.

Hi,
It depends on driving conditions as much a mileage. Short runs, dusty condition, stop and start. Most manufactures have recommendation for such use. Read the book that comes with the car, Regards

He just got the car. He has no maintenance history or maintenance record to the vehicle.

Hi,
If the history of the car is unknown, I would then change all the filters and fluids in the car, and start from there. Also I would have a reliable person or shop do a safety check on the car, brakes and front end.
Regards.

Ol boy congrats on ur car grin What type did you buy??

Sorry i posted before without noticing u just said you bought the car. I recommend that you do a full service. What I did for mine was take it to those mechanics at petrol stations I believe they are better than roadside mechanics or take it to a specialist.
Explain to them then let them search everything and change it to what your pocket can manage. Mine there were a lot of things that had to be changed like the brake pads, spark plugs, lights, filters. it was long for me cause the car had been parked for about a year, but this might not necessarlily be the same for you. Good luck sha

All the belts are critical.  If any fails (depending on its function), you might be in a mess.  The first thing you do to any car you buy with no record is to do a timing job.  If the timing fails, you are as good as buying another car or engine.  Then check for constant velocity joints (CV) or axles if it's a front wheel drive.  If the axle breaks, you cannot move the vehicle.  As the name implies, the transmission relies on the CV to move the car in the direction intended.  One it's broken, the transmission only converts the reciprocating motion from the engine to rotary and there will be nothing to complete the cycle.  Changing all the fluids too.  The summary is to do a complete service on the vehicle and start your record from there.
