Factional chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Lamidi Apapa on Thursday said Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the party in the just concluded general elections is bound to recognise him as the national chairman of the party.

The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal on Wednesday refused to recognize any representative of the Labour Party except the 1st petitioner, Peter Obi, who was in court.

Earlier, Apapa had assumed the leadership of the party in acting capacity after the Federal High Court, Abuja suspended Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party over alleged forgery of documents including court documents.

However, Obi and key stakeholders have rejected Apapa, saying he is not recognised as the national chairman and cannot represent the party in any capacity.

Speaking in an interview on Channels Television which was monitored by worldviewafrica, Apapa said he is not begging Obi to recognise him as the chairman.

“He is bound to recognise me as the national chairman of Labour Party. He is not the owner of the party. He met in the party. I have served the party for 21 years, Obi is less than one year in the party”.

“I am not going to appeal to him to recognise me. He is bound to recognise me. The party belongs to Nigerians, it doesn’t belong to any particular tribe. He is bound to recognise me”.
