server34: The media can say watever they want. . . . Its really not dat bad. . . DPR officials have an idea. They have an imprecise but really close figure. Oil companies submit the well performance reports to DPR every quarter. Even if the DPR officials may not actually use a flow meter to measure daily production and export. . . they can agree with the report sent by those companies under corporate transparency acts. . . and the multinational companies wouldn't wanna tarnish their image because everybody know say everyday for d thief, one day for d owner. I wish all this were true but unfortunately this is Nigeria. If you can, hire a helicopter and fly towards the swamps of the Nigeria what you see will shock you. 1. You will see barges loading illegal crude oil and not a single security force doing anything. I will try find the you tube clip. |
Politics › Re: Ekiti And Federal Presence by blacksta(m): 12:20pm On Apr 30, 2009 |
desgiezd: Politically, the south-west has always align with the progressives rather than the conservatives as represented by the PDP. In 2003, the south-west did not vote for the PDP but the elections were massively rigged to favour PDP to give OBJ a political base and the progressives in the south-west said they would not contest the election results in order not to endanger Nigeria's stability bearing in mind that Nigeria's first coup had its roots in political problems that started from the south-west. The rigging of 2003 was repeated also in 2007 and the progressives now decided to challenge the results. As a result, PDP lost Ondo and Edo (though not part of south-west but the people there play similar politics with the people of south-west). Osun is also on its way out of their grips. With the Appeal Court verdict of re-run in Ekiti, the PDP became jittery because loosing Ekiti again would mean loosing their grip in the south-west and this is what is making them desperate to win the state at all cost.
NB: PDP here is used to mean Fed Govt as well. Your analysis kind of makes sense- In the south west you have 6 states. why worry about 6 states if you have control of 30 states and the Fct |

Moonstone: These people are calling Nigeria a failed state and please what have they done to improve the country? Can they mention their own contributions to making Nigeria a successful state? I don't think Nigeria is a failed state. It is definitely not that condemned. You are just contradicted yourself at what level of condemnation do you want . slightly condemned or average condemn . To other question i was running a printing firm in shomolu, Lagos with about 10 people working for me until it was ruined because of people's corruption |

Kobojunkie: In my opinion, Nigeria is not failed state. We just have a huge majority who care little about general success and development of the country. Will every faculty or institution have to breakdown or ground to a halt before we can accept that Nigeria is a failed. What about trends for example if things carry on this way maybe it will confirm what we knew 5 years ago. in Somalia or Zimbabwe today some part of the government and financial institution are still functioning but it tagged a failed state. |

I dont what the problem is . At the end of day Dora is a spoken person for Yar adua and will only voice out the government stance on matters but the real culprit is Yar adu and his henchmen. I doubt Dora is voicing her own personal opionon. If Dora is honourable she would simply resign rather than be a devil's advocate. |

Politics › Foreign Airlines Crew Skip Nights In Nigeria - Is it That Bad by blacksta(op): 5:11pm On Apr 29, 2009 |
Several reasons have been raised as to why some foreign airlines do not allow their crew to pass the night in Nigeria. Some of the reasons include security and economy. But local aviators have observed that the development portends great danger to the nation's economy. A top official of Lufthansa Airlines disclosed that security reasons made the carrier to always move its crew from Nigeria to Ghana anytime it arrived the country. Before now, the source said that the crew of the German carrier were always escorted by heavily armed police to their hotel in Lagos where they would pass the night. For fear that the unexpected could happen someday, he said that the management of the airline decided to arrange for the crew to start passing the night in Ghana. Consequently, he said, the airline decided to reschedule its operations in such a way that after disembarking its Nigerian passengers in Abuja and Lagos, its flights move to Ghana as final destination where the crew would then pass the night. Currently, Lufthansa operates daily flights between Frankfurt and Lagos and thrice to Abuja from its hub in Germany. The spokesperson for Lufthansa in Nigeria, Mr. Kayode Olaniyan, confirmed that the crew had stopped passing the night in Nigeria but declined further comments on why the airline took the decision. http://odili.net/news/source/2009/apr/29/426.html |
