Russia rattled after US sanctions force immediate suspension of dollar and euro trading New US sanctions against Russia have caused an immediate suspension of trading in dollars and euros on the country’s leading financial marketplace, the Moscow Exchange. The exchange, also known as MOEX, and the Russian central bank rushed out statements Wednesday, a public holiday in Russia, within an hour of Washington announcing a new round of sanctions aimed at cutting the flow of money and goods to sustain Moscow’s war in Ukraine. “Due to the introduction of restrictive measures by the United States against the Moscow Exchange Group, exchange trading and settlements of deliverable instruments in US dollars and euros are suspended,” the central bank said. The move means banks, companies and investors will no longer be able to trade either currency via a central exchange, which offers advantages such as better liquidity and oversight. Instead, they will have to trade over the counter, where deals are conducted directly between two parties. The central bank said it would use data from those trades to set official exchange rates. https://edition.cnn.com/2024/06/13/investing/us-russia-sanctions-dollar-euro-trading/index.html |

The President of the NLC, Ajaero, has spoken on the current minimum wage dispute stating that a strike cannot be declared at this time. The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has made known that there will be no strike action scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday, in pursuit of a revised national minimum wage. The NLC President, Joe Ajaero, announced this decision during the current International Labour Conference taking place in Geneva, Switzerland. “We cannot declare strike now because the figures are with the President.” “During the tenure of the immediate past President, the figure that was proposed to him was N27,000 by the tripartite committee but he increased it to N30,000. We are hopeful that this President will do the right thing. The President had noted that the difference between N62,000 and N250,000 is a wide gulf,” “How can any governor say he cannot pay? They cannot also be calling for the decentralization of the minimum wage. “Are there wages decentralized? Governors whose states are not contributing a dime to the national purse and who generate pitiable Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) are collecting the same amount as governors whose states are generating billions of dollars into the FAAC. “They should decentralize their salaries and emoluments first.” “So, where is the governor of Edo state, Godwin Obaseki getting his money from? He is paying N70,000 minimum wage. This is the type of governor that should be emulated and not the lazy ones.” |
27 majority members of RSHA tricked Novice Fubara by saying they have decamped to the APC without submitting any resignation letters to their various ward chairmen. Fubara invested heavily on this joke and committed irreconcilable offence against the power that brought him. This is another political dribbling that will soon enter the political science curriculum https://x.com/DeeOneAyekooto/status/1800150335857573894 |
