In November, Binance agreed to pay $4.3bn to various US agencies, including the Justice Department, to settle charges related to its platform’s use by terrorist organisations like Hamas, the Islamic State, and Al Qaeda. Prosecutors alleged that under Zhao’s leadership, Binance had flouted American sanctions, granting access to customers in countries such as Iran, Syria, and Cuba. Additionally, the company failed to report suspicious transactions involving narcotics and child sexual abuse materials, according to government officials. Prosecutors highlighted Zhao’s mantra to Binance employees, stating that “it was better to ask for forgiveness than permission.” https://punchng.com/why-us-nigeria-others-crack-down-on-crypto-currency-kings/ |

A growing number of Nigerian residents are raising concerns following clampdown on crypto assets via the financial industry Following the classification of cryptocurrency trading as a national security issue by Nigeria’s National Security Adviser (NSA), at least four fintech startups operating in the country—Opay, Moniepoint, Paga, and Palmpay—will block the accounts of customers engaging in cryptocurrency transactions and report those transactions to law enforcement agencies. https://nairametrics.com/2024/05/04/nigerians-left-in-shock-as-cbn-fg-clamp-down-on-crypto-market/ |

Nigeria’s second largest hydropower plant; the ZUNGERU POWER PLANT, was connected to the national grid last week leading to an improved supply in electricity to many areas across the country. -The ambitious power plant represents a major achievement of the APC led government starting under former President Muhammadu Buhari who handed over engineering, procurement, and construction to a Chinese consortium comprising China National Electric Engineering Company (CNEEC) and Sinohydro after initial construction began in 2013. -President Tinubu ensured continuity with the concession process which is set to earn Nigeria $70m annually for the next 30 years for managing the complex. -The gigantic reservoir has a capacity to hold 10.4bn cubic meters of water -The power project is estimated to generate 2.64 billion kWh of electricity annually, which will meet close to 10 per cent of Nigeria’s total domestic energy needs. Slowly but surely, we will get there🎉 https://twitter.com/DOlusegun/status/1786424975961800731

Agulu Obama and his nonsense rhetorics. When President Shehu Shagari conceptualised the 3rd Mainland Bridge in 1976, a lot of people called it a white elephant project. They said Lagos had 2 existing bridges - Carter and Eko Bridge. A third bridge was unnecessary. Victoria Island was partially developed, and if at all a bridge was needed, it should end at Ebute-Metta. Nigeria was going through a tougher time with back to back military coups, structural adjustment programs, etc. Shagari continued with the project and IBB despite all the challenges completed it and extended the bridge from Ebute Metta to Oworoshoki. Today, Lagos state can barely survive without the 3rd Mainland Bridge, and everyone is now clamouring for a 4th Mainland Bridge. When Gen Abacha started the construction of NLNG in 1995, Nigeria could be likened to hell. Cancelled elections, interim government, truncated democracy, and foreign sanctions, Nigerians were cooking with sawdust stoves. There was no food to eat, and universities were shut down. Today, NLNG has paid over $18bn to the FG as dividends. When PBAT envisioned the Lekki Free Trade Zone, the deep sea port, Red and Blue rail lines in 2003, people thought he was bluffing. Today, the free trade zone houses the biggest refinery in the world and arguably the most important asset to our economy. The Lekki deep sea port will generate more than 50% of Nigeria's GDP. Agulu Obama lacks vision. A completely shallow mind who can't see beyond his nostrils. 8 years as governor with zero legacies now turned Twitter influencer. https://twitter.com/fimiletoks/status/1785446468872229280 |

Yesterday, the National Grid got a massive boost as 624MW was added from Zungeru HPP. This was after a successful reliability test on the units. With this addition, NESI will be better and the national grid shall grow. Let's continue to prioritize #energyaccountability and #energymanagement as we work towards a more sustainable future. Kudos to continuity of APC Government.
