I’ m no medical doctor, but if you have taken him to a GP, and they have run tests and they found there is nothing fundamentally wrong with Him, then just be patient, it might just be a phase in His development.

Just keep on nourishing Him and showing him live.

Wishing you the very best.

EDIT: I meant to say “showing Him *LOVE ❤️ “

There is hardly a living thing that does not need or responds positively to love.
He is well loved by the entire family, so he has abundance of that. Thanks

Hyperthyroidism, Obstructive Sleep apnea, Klinefelter, Marfan, Type 1 DM.

These are some of the differentials that came to mind from your story. You need to visit a specialist (Paediatrician) for a proper clinical examination.

Please take this very seriously. You can contact me for a preliminary review.
Thanks. Visiting a Teaching Hospital and seeing a specialist is the next course of action. Definitely after the current school term. Thanks once ag

I didnt see where you stated that you ever took him to the hospital for examination, or its me who didnt read well. First of all, let medical science examine him and generate a comprehensive health report on him. It may just be that he lacks certain elements or vitamins. Also, i hope you dont use to take him to public hair shaving saloon to use public clippers. look into that. The medical test will give more info that will help. After that we can now know what else to suggest or look into. No need to panic.
He has been taken to different doctors, although, just GPs. So now, we are going for complete diagnosis hopefully after consultations at a Teaching Hospital. Thanks for your input.

Hello, Frankly, nairaland is not a hospital. Take your son to a teaching hospital for evaluation.

Your description points to two contrary things.
1. He being thin, could be pointing to some sort of anaemia. Which means his blood is not transporting enough of what he eats to the cells for what ever reason. Anaemia has many possible causes including genetics.

2. He breaths opening his mouth, which points to a partially blocked airway. For this, he should be adding weight, not loosing, as his body should not be able to burn up already stored fat. This second one is more of a problem to adults, not children.

That's why I said the two things are contradicting. But either way, take him to TH for medical screening. The medical profs will atleast check to rule out certain things. He very well can outgrow the issue, but do not assume so.
Thanks alot for your input, I will follow through with the suggestion

Okay.

He is 12.

He will grow fatter and bigger as he gets older.

Not every SS person falls sick often especially when they are eating well.
I hope he gets fatter too.

Well, I pray he isn't. Seeing a consultant is the next step now

What do you mean by this statement? "I can't even bring myself to post his pictures on my status".

Take things easy. Who knows maybe it's genetics. How do you look now or while growing up?

Deworm him and buy him excellent multivitamin. He doesn't have to be fat but should look well kept. Also, take things easy with the lad. Don't shout too much on him because you are sounding so pained and unnecessarily stup*d. Did he create himself? Love your boy, shower him with praise and keep taking care of him.

What is your own with what any idiot on the road thinks about your child? You know all this also gets to him? Why are you people so daft? You are not a worthy parent
Clap for yourself

Father - think back to when the child was 2-3 years. What was the time like for him back then? Did your primary healthcare Dr. or daycare staff ever mentioned anything like ADHD evaluation? especially the inattentive type? Or have you ever thought he might be on the Spectrum? has he been evaluated? Are you considering evaluation? You see, lot of the time if an individual is undiagnosed (especially early) - the world around him or her will never understand why the individual acts the way they do! Do more search and read more on neurodivergent or neurotypical, maybe you will relate better. Per research, these things if undiagnosed affects everything - as in the whole being and social relationships if you will.

All the best.
Thanks a lot, a friend just suggested this too, it def will be included in the next course of actions.

My first son is like that, too, but so was I, especially when I was about 19 to 24 years of age. I was very skinny and lanky. So I'm not alarmed at my boy looking like that.

Just make sure he regularly takes antihelmintics (worm medicine) and watch him grow.

He'll bulk up later.
Hmm, some soothing words, thanks

Back in the 1950's, my father was a little boy and his own unique health challenge was each time he slept, his eyes would be wide open

His parents were well to do , and so they went to the best hospitals around to no avail

Finally, they took him to the village where he was cured by a blind traditional herbalist and to this day, he has never had such a problem again.

The reason I am sharing this story with you, op, is this, everything no be western medicine

If they can't find a solution to his mouth staying open always, take the boy to your village and ask the locals, they are good traditional healers that may have the solution you seek.

Yo! I’m slim like that too!

What you can do is give him more meals and snacks between meals.

He has a faster metabolism which makes his food digest faster than normal and then his body begins to digest his body fat.

On a daily, he loses more calories than he takes in

Give him more meals and snacks. You can add Ensure drink to his daily meal intake.

You can also track him a few exercises like push ups and wrist exercises to bulk his looks.

Do not do running exercises, those are for weight loss.

Good luck.
With the look of things, the fast metabolism seem to be the issue. We will seek further consultations with doctors to rule out any medical issue, then maybe incorporate your advice if he's in the clear medically. Thanks alot

He'll put on more weight as time goes by but as it stands, he has a FAST metabolism.

So, your son is an ectomorph in terms of body size. He can start weight training before he hits his 20th birthday and follow strictly the diet plan for ectomorphs (hard gainers).

You can get more insights here:

Hmm, thanks a bunch bro, I will look into it.

I'm sorry, I didn't read the entire thread because I always try to filter out noise in certain situations but I'm guessing the doctors you met said there's nothing to worry about but just to be damn sure, go to any teaching or military hospital in your state of residence and let them run a diagnosis on him, maybe they'll suggest tests to be run and maybe it's just nothing. I have a childhood friend with this same scenario, different from his siblings because he was like a broom but by the time we were rounding up our teenage years, BOOM he bulked up like a body builder. It's normal for parents to be worried in this sort of situation so, just go to the hospital one more time and if the doctors give you an all clear then, ask to see their nutritionist. The aspect of him opening his mouth constantly will be sorted out by school mates or by his crush when he gets to JS3 or SS1, they'll yab composure into him grin so you better make him your paddy man and reward him whenever he closes his mouth for an hour. I don't want to bore you with long talk but back in the day, holidays with extended family members would have sorted this thing out due to socialization which would have been good for him as an only child but now, you just have to accept the gradual process. Don't just stress your head please
Thanks for your soothing words, highly appreciated. Your advice will be followed

Don’t worry.

You also say he is hyperactive and intelligent.

You see, the brain uses a lot of energy. More than the any other organ in the body. That’s where all his food is going to.

I am also hyperactive. Very hyperactive. And if eat anything. It digest almost immediately that I begin to feel its reaction in my body.

Once he grow older and learn to be more calm. The foods will be used to build his body.

I am currently at that stage.
Thanks alot for your soothing word

If he's up to 14 let him start hitting the gym. Same age Arnold Schwarzenegger started bodybuilding. I have boys less that age at where I work out.

Tips:
1. Hit the gym twice daily. Morning he should work on upper body lifting weights.. Assign a gym instructor for him let them put him through on benching and curling programs for a start. For evening he should work on legs. Make sure the gym has a bench press machine. He should also partake in squats and other leg building programs.

2. He should normalize eating either beans, cooked eggs, youghurt or a good amount of steak after a rigorous workout and stay hidrated afterwards. He could eat any other food Inbetween

3. He should stop eating late night foods and sleep at least 7 hours daily.

Try it for 6 months and see results for yourself. Unless he has internal deformities that restricts his body from forming muscles them no born am well make he no swell up.
Thanks for your contribution, but the boy is just 12.

Ops,

Your child might be suffering from Addison's disease (adrenal insufficiency) – This condition causes insufficient secretion of hormones from the adrenal cortex, which can cause weight loss
I am not by any stretch of imagination giving you a definitive diagnosis of your son’s medical condition.,
But it’s important that you see a pediatrician who’s experienced with this type of cases, possibly in a university college hospital where you have different professionals.
I am sorry about your situation. As a father, I know it must be really difficult for you.
A proper diagnosis is essential. Once he’s properly diagnosed, then the right treatment or management plan can be administered. He’ll be okay eventually.
Thank you very much, well appreciated
