The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has commenced indefinite strike nationwide today, national president of ASUU, Dr Nasir Isa Fagge has said. He made this declaration, Monday, at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) after their NEC meeting held at Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, Ogun State. Speaking to news men, he said: “We are embarking on indefinite strike nation wide because the Federal Government reneged in the Memorandum of Understanding MoU signed with ASUU in 2009 to pay lecturers their earn allowance.” According to Fagge, the Federal Government, in 2009 made a law to pay each lecturers N12,500 per month as earn allowance which it never did since 2009. Lecturers at the University of Port Harcourt have confirmed this development stating that an SMS has gone round to all lecturers in Nigerian versities asking them to embark on "a total and indefinite strike action from 1st July, 2013." A Professor of the University who spoke to NaijaCurrent.com on the condition of anonymity disclosed that ASUU has called for a meeting on Tuesday 2nd July, 2013 to officially make a public announce of this action. Students on ground at UNIPORT expressed their dismay at the pace of incessant academic strikes in Nigeria complaining that this marks the beginning of a long time of boredom for them. Two women, Temitope Abigeal and Temitope Remi, have been arraigned before a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Ebute Meta on a three count of conspiracy, assault and grievous harm. Abigeal (26) and Remi (28), choristers at a Cherubim and Seraphim church at Ebute Meta, were alleged to have assaulted Hannah Okurabe (18) with razor blades at Abule Nla junction, a few metres away from the church. The incident was said to be the result of an earlier fight over the church’s choirmaster, Joseph Unuigbe, a father of two. Joseph Unuigbe is married to a lady who is also a member of the same church. Hannah is presently receiving treatment at the Lagos Island General Hospital, while Abigeal and Remi have been remanded in Kirikiri until they meet their bail terms. SOURCE: www.NaijaCurrent.com

A train and a truck collided last night at the PWD railway crossing in Ikeja. The truck (seen above) was trying to cross the railway line when a speeding train coming from Ebutte Metta and heading to Agbado rammed into it. Fortunately no life was lost but a few people sustained serious injuries and were immediately rushed to the hospital. After the accident, the train had to terminate its journey, leaving its passengers stranded. SOURCE: www.NaijaCurrent.com

Arriving last Saturday – five weeks earlier than scheduled, Baby KimYe spoiled her parents’ plan ofsharing the spotlight with the Queen of England’s first great-grandchild, expected to be born to the Duke of Cambridge, and his gracefully pregnant consort, Kate Middleton, in July. Against all expectations, the 32-year-old porn-star-turned-reality-TV-queen Kimberly opted for a natural birth rather than easier delivery alternatives. For the very first time, Kim – a woman of very easy virtues and Kris Jenner’s biggest cash cow – is applauded for choosing a difficult option. Another big surprise is that she didn’t take over an entire floor of the Cedars-Sinai Hospital, in Beyonce Carter fashion, for her delivery. Impromptu delivery or not, trust Grandma Kris, Baby Daddy Kanye and the whole Kardashian/Jenner clan to protect baby KimYe’s pictures from leaking to the public for free. All we hear for now is that she has dark hair and looks more like her mum than dad. According to experts, the first pictures of KimYe could command an upward of $5 million. Brad Elterman, of the Buzz Foto Agency, confirmed this while adding that: “There are very few groundbreaking stories in today’s pop culture that can command big bucks, but I guess this is one that will get some tails wagging.” Kim had sold exclusive picture rights of her second wedding ceremony to People’s Magazine for the sum of $1.8 million and bridal shower pictures to OK! Mag for $100,000 as part of the total $18M she reportedly made off the pre and actual wedding coverage by the media. The August 2011 marriage to Basketballer Kris Humphries lasted 72 days. Popular songstress, Omawumi Megbele, speaks to Ademola Olonilua about the “bad” things she did as a teenage girl back in the day, she also dishes on her latest work and sundry issues: Why it took me so long to launch my album I just wanted to take out time and make good music. There are some people who do yearly albums, I try to do like two or three years. There are people whom I emulate. I feel that as music is a craft, you must try to make sure you put out good materials that can stand the test of time. It is not something that can be relevant for only two months or a year. You want something that is good. My Lasso of Truth album I’m very happy, I have got a lot of positive feedback. The sales in the first week was great. They made about 500,000 copies and it is almost sold out. The sales did very well because the demand is high. I did not even know that the demand was this high, even outside Nigeria, We have been working out platforms where we can sell the album. People outside the country ask whoever is travelling abroad to buy the CD in bulk for them. The demand is that high. If not music, I would have loved to be a teacher I might be fun to be with, but I’m not a comedian. My mother wanted me to practice law, but I wanted to teach. I have always wanted to teach, I would have been a teacher. I don’t know why I have the capacity to get people to listen to me. Right now, I’m part of an organisation that mentors young girls. You know when you sit with young girls and you are advising them, if it is someone else advising them, deep down they might not listen and think the person is spoiling their fun. But I come across as somebody who has been there, done that and got the T-shirt. So they listen. I think it would have been a beautiful challenge for me to be a teacher. I’m sure I would have been worried about the pay but it would have been flexible enough for me to have a family as well as enjoy what I’m doing if I was not into music. My early days I had many experiences but I’d like not to embarrass myself. I was very mischievous as a kid. I used to get into a lot of trouble. I had a lot of older ones, so they used to deal with me a lot. They would say, ‘Omawumi don commit again’. I was the sort of person that would steal my elder sister’s bra and put socks inside; that was when I was bare-chested. The sad thing is that when the thing now came out, it just came out at once. I did the usual things that children do. I can’t say most of it in print. If my older ones should read it, they would discover some things I did back then. I was pretty much a normal kid. I used to play a lot but my parents made us understand the value of education. Year 2013 so far I have got four endorsements this year. It has been fantastic. The thing about it is that I have been working towards things like this for a while. The way my work is, I have a healthy fan base. I have the kind of music I make and the kind of people who like it and it appeals to. When it comes to endorsements, I’m really grateful to God. It is a process, if you work and you put out good material and you are relatable, it’s a good thing. The fact that I can market so many products proves I’m a true Nigerian. Without blowing my horn and in trying to be as modest as I can, I am educated. Most parents want their children to be educated and even if they want to pursue their dreams, they use me as an example. I pursued my dream but at the end of the day, I got the basic education. Is she street wise? They use me as an example. Even though you are educated, it doesn’t mean you should be dumb. There are some parts of my life I feel people make comments, like ‘she is a single mother’; it is not supposed to be celebrated. The plus side of it is that I have a beautiful daughter. I figured that it is better for me to keep a life that God has given me as opposed to killing. That it didn’t work the way it should work or that I am not married, it is still a process, I am still a human being. That is also relatable. It is not like they say that when you get to a stage and you don’t get someone to marry you, you go and get pregnant. Some of my friends, when they look at me and say they want to be like me or that they don’t have time for men, I tell them no. Circumstances and life brought it upon me, I would not regret one day of it. I am happy with my daughter, I am happy about the family that she has and the one I have. Nonetheless, it is not something someone should come out and say this is the way to go. Criticism I’ll tell you the truth, I’m indifferent. I have developed a thick skin. I would not say that from the outset it never affected me. But it didn’t mean I put my hand under my cheek and started brooding. I was just worried why this sort of thing happened. I am a solutions kind of person and so I started looking for solutions. I found out that there was no solution. Whether you like it or not, people must talk about you. The more mysterious you are, the more stories would be woven around you. I figured that you win some and lose some, you cannot have it all. The day you are the focus of the press, you just say by God’s grace, this too shall pass. I don’t like it when people form an opinion about me out of negative publicity, especially when it is not true and it affects my career. That is the part I don’t like because I believe everybody puts a lot of hard work into their music. That’s why I always tell people, I’m not an angel. That is why I encourage people to just enjoy the music. It is the music I am giving you, not my personal life, not who I am. My first crush and boyfriend I can remember him. I think I ‘died’ for him so much I cannot remember how he toasted me. You know when you like a boy so much and you try to catch his attention. He was my elder brother’s very good friend and it was like a taboo to have anything to do with your elder brother’s friend. The elder brother would beat both the friend and the sister. That was the sort of position I was in. I still collected the beatings because when you are blinded with love, you would stick with the boy no matter what. Eventually, we were so in love for a long time. What influences my fashion sense I try to be comfortable and look good as much as I can. It is not easy but I try. I’m not much of a fashion icon. I just know you wear fine blouse or skirt. I find it difficult to accessorise or match colours. I don’t know all those type of things. I started hearing it when I came to Lagos. I am a Warri girl. Before now, I was all about my shirt and jeans. Some people say they like Omawumi but they wish I would dress better or that I need a stylist. I would tell you that it is fine. I wish I would have a stylist, but in a situation where I don’t have one, as I dress, take it like that. The most important thing is that I am putting out good music. The minute I become a 360 artiste – where I am selling my fashion as well as my music, then you can criticise but till then, accept me as I am. SOURCE: www.NaijaCurrent.com www.Naij.com

I wonder what's going on between Tonto Dikeh and Linda Ikeji...actress Tonto Dikeh dissed popular blogger, Linda Ikeji today by re tweeting a negative tweet about Linda Ikeji - her inability to find a man to marry her - while she was supposed to be celebrating her birthday. Linda on the other hand failed to wish the star actress a happy birthday on her blog, lol yet she wished Dbanj (his birthday is today too). But for Tonto Dikeh's explicit remarks, is it not the case of the kettle calling the pot black, or vise visa ?? see tweet: www.NaijaCurrent.com

Photo showing Kellie Nightlinger and Erroll James Snyder in Discovery Channel's new reality show, "Naked and Afraid". Discovery Channel is baring it all for its new survival series. Several other reality survival series have already tested participants’ ability to hunt and create shelter. Discovery chose to up the ante, dropping cast members into remote, wild locations–completely nude. The show is sure to test the limits of what the public will accept from reality shows. “Naked and Afraid” will feature two complete strangers, one man and one woman, for 21 days as they attempt to survive and navigate their way to a predetermined extraction point, one to 10 miles from their drop-off location. Each episode features a different couple in a different location and will premiere June 23. As part of the show, the survivalists’ are allowed one personal item of their choosing. They are also given a “rudimentary map” and Go Pro cameras, “which were rolling at all times,” according to Denise Contis, an executive producer on the show. While navigating the terrain of the Maldives, Panama and Boreo may have been a first time experience for the participants, all of whom classify themselves as “survivalists,” nudity is no longer uncharted water for the network. “Naked Castaway,” which premiered in April, featured explorer Ed Stafford as he survived for 60 days sans food, clothing or tools on a deserted Fijian island. “We wanted scenarios that are so real they are unreal,” said Contis, referring to the premise of “Naked and Afraid.” The cable network, which has produced such documentaries as “Planet Earth” and “Africa” and built their non-fiction programming with “Shark Week,” has increasingly turned from documentaries to the unscripted reality genre to attract new viewers. “We are telling a magnetic story with compelling characters and a vicarious exploration,” said Contis. “’Naked and Afraid’ touches all or a lot of the key components to our programming.” In addition to the survivalists’ camera footage, a four-person crew tracked and shot the couple at all times. Once a day everyday, producers would collect the memory cards from the participants’ cameras and check the batteries. The crew got involved on more than one occasion, when people were depleted or in an emergency situation. But Contis said she does not believe that interfered with the overall show. “There is no manipulation, no element of scripted reality,” she said. When asked about the potential dangers for the participants, Contis said, “I don’t know that they were very clearly in danger. They were placed in this location, where and how they survived and if they traveled at all, that was up to them.” Executive producer Steven Rankin was bitten by a Fer-de-lance snake during filming and nearly lost his foot in Costa Rica. He later tweeted a gruesome photo of his injury. Contis also denied that Discovery was aiming for any shock value. “It’s the ultimate survival show. Neither of them have clothes and by the time they are on the ground it is a complete non-issue.” From a production standpoint, Contis also said that the show was not shot any differently due to the participants’ nudity, and that certain areas would be blurred out for broadcast. The show went through a 10-month pre-production development period, where locations were scouted and the participants were chosen. Discovery Channel, part of Discovery Communications, is distributed to 100 million homes in the U.S. and over 180 countries. www.NaijaCurrent.com Culled from yahoo.com

When I first heard Sarkodie say, “yeh know say money no be problem”, my casual response was; “of course!, because it is the lack of money that’s actually a problem." Infact, with the youths of today trying to avert the lack of money comes some -“you know?”- questionable activities. On our table of men today is a trend we popularly call “Runs girl”. I heard someone say “Nothing like runs girl, ashawo na ashawo joor”. This left me asking myself hmmm… Really, is there a difference? It is not a heculian task trying to compare and contrast using this my short experience below: I was at a club in Port Harcourt recently when a certain fair, “breastigous and bottominous” provocatively dressed lady walked up to me and said, can I share your seat with you please? You already know my response. Who wouldn’t like that? Before I could say “first of all…” she started gossiping of how much she liked my Nigerian Agip Oil Company friend and would like to have a chat with him. The only thing she told me was that she's a final year student of Linguistics and Communication Studies, Uniport. So, I led her to him; and they were into this chat like they met centuries ago. Now, it happened that she came to the club with a certain sugar daddy she sleeps with, but before the night blinked, she had distributed her BB pin and phone number to me and my friends. After much much like Phyno will say, her parting words to me was “give me a call, get your money ready and we could make each other happy everytime”. The question for you is whether she’s a runs girl or an ashawo? I don't know for now, but once I do, I’ll let you know. Of course I am not forgetting the fact that Rivers State has just recently been ranked as the highest State with over 146,000 adults living with HIV/AIDS *winks* Call me Anonymous! www.Naijacurrent.com

Unedited: With due respect to creativity and productivity, it is apparently glaring, the artistic dexterity of Tuface Ujah Idibia in eclectic maneuver of several music genre in his (Tuface Idibia) last two projects. In a critical appreciation of these projects titled; “Unstoppable” and “Away and Beyond”, one must mobilize adequate kudos to Tuface’s repertoire, thereby professionally recognizing authenticity of the “Legend in him” (Tuface Idibia). This is because, in the works stated above, one finds a juxtaposition of Reggae (Raindrop/Higher), Rock (Emotion/Dance Floor), Hip-life (1 Sing/ Steady steady, Iheneme), R&B (Be there/Omotosan, bother you) to mention but a few. Consequently, it is highly justified to identify Tuface Idibia as MC VERSATILE (All rights reserved, a project on-going on Tuface Idibia coming out soon by the author of this piece) which really exposes the creative maturity as well as the wild expansion of his (Tuface) artistry. However, this piece spot-light a deep and provoking contradiction of the Gospel preached by TUBABA himself. Hey…, before you crucify me. “Gospel” here is contextually placed based on its literal meaning. According to the Oxford Advanced Leaner’s Dictionary, Gospel means, goodnews. Good news about salvation, morality ethics of human life, inter-personal relations, Communal relations, peace etc. hence the adoption of a moral cum philosophical sermon preached by Tuface, staring at the track HIGHER (Spiritual healing) in the “Away and Beyond” project. THE SONG INTRO: INDIA … Every time we spent together there is fire in our eyes ...... All the things we said to each other are just nothing but truthful lies I go dey think say i know you well Until you choose to do me so, ooooo Chorus: Now I see ……. Now I see I see, higher than, higher than the height of the mountain Deeper than, deeper than the depth of the ocean Further than, further than the eyes can see [But me talking spiritualty] I see, wider than, wider than the width of the desert Lower than, lower than the depth of the ocean Further than, further than the eyes can see [But me talking spiritualty] Spiritual healing, . . . . Open your eyes Spiritual healing, free your mind from hate Spiritual healing . . . . . . . Verse We never got a chance, the chance to make it right Cos right from the beginning some people don dey fight They fighting for the same thing, this is not bright And brightness only come from when you see the light. Like life is so simple but they make it complicated. To be civilized you don’t have to be educated. Let’s make it happen, so we time will not be wasted. Most of the things anticipated like: 1. Don’t trample upon another man to be elevated 2. Inflated ego can surely be deflated 3. The power of forgiveness is underrated 4. But with love and equality we all were created. Testifying/Testimony I keep saying these things cos I know, I’ll keep on saying these things until I go And now I see ……. Now I see, I see .…… The above track is highly inspirational from a Reggae perspective. It is emotionally inclined and thought-provokes the sub-conscious in a bid to redirect the general philosophy of life in forms of jealousy and envy and betrayal. The song is prologued by regret, as the word “We” and “together” signifies some one close and intimate in a friendly, cum family context. This regret is spring board by appearance and reality which means, deceit, has been going on all along in an oxymoronic expression “truthful lies” …. But like the golden fish, no where to hide, character turned to attitude and attitude can never reside immaculate in mask, it must be knowingly or ignorantly unmasked “until you chose to do me so” … But we have the assurance that such mistakes have been, but to avoid re-occurrence of such as the song assures: Now I see, - Higher than the mountain - Deeper than the depth of the ocean - Further than the eye can see [me talking spiritualty], all these symbolically represents, spiritual/psychological illumination of the mind in metaphor. Confessionally however, the verse thematically showcased Tuface’s willingness to make it-up with the RIVAL but ego circumstances which seemed beyond his control frustrates such efforts as they never get the chance to make it right … Although this may confuse the listener and questions may arise on who Tuface is referring to in this wonderful track of his which I so much like to title Tuface Gospel, I may relate it to his Brother of “their” defunct group, plantationn boiz – Black Face, giving it the most glaring perspective in a constructive manner. The Saga of the “African Queen” track is a tussle which Tuface feels he owes Black Face nothing, that track fortunately is Tuface’s ILLUMINATING Source. No verbal or written kudos to the writer (Black Face) and no financial compensation to the credit of Black Face, rather “Ego” is overshadowing the act. If they never get the chance to make it right, who’s going to create the chance?. So unfortunate Black Face is relegated to the background in this track (HIGHER). The puritan attitude of Tuface in this track bedevils the reputation of Black Face not only in the song but in reality. For failing to invite a friend such as Black Face to his wedding. What a contradiction?. All the effort of this song is thwarted in four contradictory recommendations by Tuface: 1. Don’t trample upon another man to be elevated 2. Inflated ego can surely be deflated. 3. The power of forgiveness is underrated. 4. But with love and equality we all were created The first recommendation is faulted by him (Tuface) as he trampled upon Black Face and was elevated. Secondly, his (Tuface) ego inflates to the point of seeing Black Face as noting and a nobody as well as not accrediting the “creativity to the creator” AFRICAN QUEEN. Thirdly, the power of forgiveness is really underrated by himself to see that they (both) are at logger heads, and if really Tuface is aware of the love and equality there would be no lack of respect for Blacky. It may interest all to know that Tuface has learnt from the saga but will not deflate his ego to recognize Blacky. Now the two last albums of Tubaba carry credit to all whose works were adopted. Finally, credit should be given to those who worth such and if the definition of legend means living by principles you preach and is known for, there is a big contradiction with Tuface’s Gospel and that need to be corrected as he (Tuface) will never be in isolation of Face and Black Face because; § There would have been no Marley without the WAILERS. § No Michael without the JACKSON FIVE. § No Fela without the KALAKUTA crew. It can still be resolved as Tubaba testifies; “I keep saying these things cos I know I will keep saying these things until I go”. www.NaijaCurrent.com By JEROME JOHN ABUTU98@YAHOO.COM 08065360466.

She was commissioned as a Combat Flying Officer alongside 126 others who finished the Direct Short Service Course 2010/2011 Cadets of the 325 Ground Training Group at the Nigerian Air Force Base, Kaduna. Present at the winging ceremony (badge decoration) was the then Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Mohammad Dikko Umar who described her training as a ‘very laudable achievement‘. She was quite excited and proud to have made history and said: “It is very uplifting and I feel very proud of myself though it has been very challenging. Coming from the civil war and the civil mentality, the Air Force has done a great job because it has changed our orientation. I believe that all females have equal opportunity to dignify their rights in whatever adventure they choose they can do.” ‘As a first female pilot I would want to make a mark that would encourage other females to join the military because I believe that all females have equal opportunity to exercise their rights in whatever they choose to do, I believe that all female Nigerians who choose to become pilots can do it since I have done it. This is a remarkable achievement, one that should drive our ladies to know and see themselves as been able to achieve the impossible and break the so called glass ceiling in any sphere you find yourself. Karrauche shared a photo of her backsidé with Chris Brown’s face on it and tagged it “TBT my birthday last year. Who’s face am I gonna put my a&* in this year? Lmao, just kidding..” We hope Rihanna doesn’t react on twitter as she and Chris Brown have been indirectly ‘subbing’ themselves ever since their second split went public. Does Karrauche want to join in? Rihanna also shared a photo of her backsidé(part of it) to instagram. Guess it’s a competition of the butts now. More photos at www.NaijaCurrent.com

Hehehe! Famous man? Who might he be talking about? For those who don't know, Ricardo is the Givency designer who was recently rumoured to be Kanye West's gay lover. Not that I believe it o! Anyway, Ricardo did an interview with Vogue Homme last month and when asked to reveal his "best" sexual experience, the fashion mogul said it was with a well known man! Read it below "I have several but the one I think immediately is an experience I had with a man who is known. I never imagined that something could happen between us and it's still the hottest weekend of my life. Nobody really knows if this guys is straight or gay, it is a mystery. However, I was attracted to him, his way of speaking, thinking, walking, dressing. I love what he does an an artist. This weekend both, the intimate moment has really reinforced my attraction to him." He might be talking about Frank Ocean. There have been rumours. Anyway, hope he doesn't write a tell-all book one day! :-) see more pics of them together at www.NaijaCurrent.com

The bride price is what it sounds like—a specific price (property, money, etc.) paid by the bridegroom (or his family) to the bride’s parents. Depending on the society and the period, this could be either a set price for all brides (virgins having a higher price) or a negotiated price based on the perceived worth of the girl (beautiful or especially industrious women being more highly valued). The dowry, on the other hand, is the wealth a woman brings to her husband as a part of the marriage. The dowry has usually been provided by the woman’s family at the time of the marriage; the idea behind the dowry is to aid the beginning of the new household, aiding the new husband in the provision for his wife. Interestingly, the dowry has usually been greater than the bride price in those cultures practicing both traditions, suggesting that the concept of “buying” a wife misunderstands the reasoning behind such transactional marriages. Consider the following scenario: a young man must pay a bride price of $10,000 to the bride’s parents before he marries his choice of a bride. When he marries her, she brings a dowry of $25,000 from her parents as “seed money” for the new marriage. In addition to helping the young marriage start off well, the dowry also aimed to provide for a young woman in the event of her husband’s untimely death or a divorce (generally the dowry would need to be returned by the husband, making it financially difficult to divorce—modern “alimony” payments derive from this concept and the related concept of the “dower,” which was sort of like an ancient pre-nuptial agreement). Also, since in many past societies, women did not receive an inheritance from their parents, the dowry served as a substitute for the woman’s inheritance. Upon the death of a woman, the value of her dowry was to be divided only among her children—it was not to go to any of her husband’s other children, if he had any. So, let no one make this mistake again: the dowry and the bride price are entirely different things, though each has an eye toward improving the success of the fledgling marriage.
