The Federal Government has criticised the views of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), saying the party members are opportunists who wish the action lingers till 2015 in order for them to capitalize on it to win 2015 election.
FG says it is unfortunate that the APC is not offering any new alternative to Nigerians but rather is busy playing politics with the strike action embarked upon by the union, which has kept students at home for over 5 months.
This has been stated by the Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, in Abuja on December 6, 2013, Friday.
The Minister pointed out that “apart from gang ups and wrestle for power, APC lack focus adding that political rebels from PDP has taken over APC”.
“The APC is now hanging on in this strike, pretending to be supporting the lecturers so that the strike will linger till 2015 so that they capitalize on it to win election. This is very sad. They
should offer us alternative policies. An opposition party should be offer new alternative for the nation. APC is now becoming A-PDP-C. Meaning that the rebels in PDP have taken over the party.
“What you now have is the original PDP versus APC-PDP. You can’t say everything is bad in PDP and you allow people from PDP to join your party. So what is the new thing they are offering Nigerians? Not in policy, not in focus,” the Minister of Information stated.
He further added that ASUU went into the strike out of conviction to solve the problem facing the universities, but opportunists want to take advantage of the strike and called on ASUU to call off the strike in the interest of the nation and students.

The entire Students of Nigerian Tertiary Institutions (SNTI) wish to announce her indefinite strike action which commences today following the 9th of Dec. 2013 late re-opening of the Institutions. The sole purpose of this strike is to press home her demands that ASUU/FG should allowed Great Nigerian Students to FLEX this year's Xmas and 2014 Valentine's Day special before returning to lecture rooms.

I just drove from rumuokoro to mile one...all schools are locked...and d security personnels are asking students to go back home...if u know port Harcourt, you would know how many public schools there are from rumuokoro to education.....pupils are going back home and I am even feeling sober that they're being rebuffed...some were brought to school on a school run by parents/guardians....now they seem stranded..why dint the Rivers State Government make this public announcement earlier yesterday....it all goes to feed and justify our doubts on the rationale of a more than one week's disruption on the academic calendar when this is supposed to be week ten..the last pedagogical week.....Hmmmmmmmm...only say me PERSONALLY love the hols.........in fact, it is a welcomed development!

On Rhythm93.7fm news today, a woman is reported to have condemned the recent recruitment of 13000 teachers in Rivers State alleging that the said teachers are incompetent, non-computer literates, poorly trained, school drop-outs, etc etc.......and that the process was based on favoritism, nepotism, and what have you! Infact, she said that she visited schools yesterday to access the quality of the new teachers but to her dismay, the teachers are nothing to write home about.....
Abeg my fellow teachers,where is this woman from and which school did she visit when some of us are here at home and at UBE & PPSB being anxious over delayed posting?

The reason for properly checking those Marriage certificate, change of name, etc is to ensure that though the names are changed, but the old certificates still belong to you (that's why non filled address of husbands residence). Calling people here timid + village simply tells volumes where the likes of you come from (probably one small inaccessible igbo village). I am proudly a Buguma man that has spent all my entire life in PH. I am not afraid to serve in my village. Ethiopia's Bimp has become the 21st Housemate to be Evicted from The Chase.

After what has been a confusing night that saw all three of the Eviction Nominees being called into the Rendezvous Room, Live Show presenter IK revealed to the Housemates and to Africa that Bimp's Chase has come to an end.

As soon as Bimp sat down, IK wasted no time in probing the Ethiopian about his beef with Elikem. The ousted Housemate shared that he does not see eye to eye with the Ghanaian because Elikem has grown increasingly cocky in the House. "He has changed," Bimp insisted. As for his dislike for Elikem's girl Pokello; Bimp said that he feels that "the feeling is mutual".

The hunky Ethiopian who has brandished himself as the gentleman of the House, has put up a good fight, having managed to make it into the top 7. In the past he proved himself to be somewhat of a silent assassin as the quiet guy was saved time and again by Africa, every time that he was put up for possible Eviction.

But tonight lady luck was just not on his side as his Big Brother journey has come to a screeching halt at a point when he was so close to the finale.

Talk about so close yet so far! After making it to the top 7 in The Chase, South Africa's Angelo has become the 22nd Housemate to be Evicted from The Chase.

Just like a tornado sweeping everything that is in its sight, the curse of the couples has swept through the Big Brother House and tonight it reared its ugly head once again. The final couple in the House Bengelo has been torn apart, at least for the time being.

Angelo did not even get a chance to say goodbye to his lady love tonight because the Nominated Housemates were called into the Rendezvous Room. As soon as IK announced him as the second Evicted Housemate of the night, Angelo walked out the Rendezvous Room and head to the Live Show stage for a heart to heart chat with the presenter.

The 18 year old aspiring beauty queen, representing Bayelsa state was crowned MBGN 2013 Saturday night in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State in a grand finale which had High Chief Edem Duke; the Federal Minister of Culture and Tourism, Gov. Seriake Dickson, Omotola, amongst other notable dignitaries in attendance. She earned an instant appointment as S.A. to the Governor on Culture and Tourism, Bayelsa Tourism Ambassador, and Anna will go against other beauty queens from around the world at the Miss World 2013 Finale in Jakarta, Indonesia. NaijaCurrent has also gathered that our new beauty queen is an Usher at Dominion City church, Port Harcourt, and this should go a long way at debunking all those who still believe she slept her way out.
The 26th edition of the pageantry took place in Yenagoa, Bayelsa.

The 1st runner-up 19 year old Stephanie Okwu representing Imo state, will represent Nigeria in the Miss Universe 2013 competition in Moscow, Russia while 20 year old Powede Lawrence representing Adamawa state, will represent Nigeria in the Miss Tourism 2013 competition.

The Rivers State Governor Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi early this evening miraculously escaped unhurt as a suspicious vehicle rammed into his convoy along Igwuruta road on the Governor’s way to the Port Harcourt International Airport.

According to eyewitness account, the accident was caused by the intrusion of a Toyota Avensis with registration number AAA 767 AQ that rammed into the Governor’s convoy from the opposite side of the dual carriageway, just after the C4I Security Post along the Port Harcourt International Airport Road.
Fortunately no life was lost and the driver of the vehicle was apprehended and handed over to the police.

Rivers State since the last 3 months has been in the news as political bigwigs in the state outwit themselves in a bid to wrest political power and control the political landscape of the oil rich state. Events reached their climax recently when the Rivers State Police Commissioner, Joseph Mbu openly lambasted the Governor whom he described as a Dictator.

The governor earlier in the day was reported to have demanded the redeployment of the Commissioner of Police whom many believe has pitched tent with Abuja-based politicians who are the governor’s political adversaries. The Police high command, in the meantime has however denied knowledge of any affray between Governor Amaechi and the Commissioner of Police, Joseph Mbu.
