See, in matters like this, everyone will try and protect his/her interest. Half-truth, hidden truth and even lies can sometimes be evident.

We can never fully get the full picture of things unless there's a neutral party to give eye witness account.

Remember, that child is still naive and the experience could have affected him, coupled with fear induced by the tormentors. This would have made him mute even when in the presence of one who could help him.
