They feel more pious by following those set of laws. Their legal system reflects their moral system. What other tangible did you need. Did they promise Sharia was going to give them any benefits listed? Did Mohammed himself make any of those promises? These sort of arguments won't work on Muslims.

Lol the Supreme Court doesn't have an army. The legislature doesn't hold the executive accountable. Any reasonable person could argue the President is breaking his oath of office. It doesn't matter since the Constitution is paper it won't enforce itself.

I, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, do solemnly swear/affirm, that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to the Federal Republic of Nigeria; that as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I will discharge my duties and perform my functions honestly to the best of my ability and faithfully in accordance with the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the law; that I will abide by the Code of Conduct containing the Fifth Schedule to the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria

Bede2u:
water is also a problem in Nevada. In Qatar, the government converts sea water into drinking water. SE is not connected to the sea. The only way out is for Enugu to dig for ground water (which is the current ineffective method) or to look for a way to convert a river into drinking water or partner with a state that is close to a large water body.
Why aren't they partnering with neighboring state for water. These governors just like looking busy at these governors Forums. There's plenty of states in The USA that form interstate compacts for this purpose. I know Texas and Oklahoma have an agreement regarding the Red River allocation.

CrimeRe: Hisbah seized 200 cartons of alcoholic drinks in sokoto(pic) by Blue3k(m): 11:12pm On Dec 12, 2024
smokinloud:
I'm not saying it's okay to ban alcohol, and I'm actually against such a ban. My point is that access to alcohol is not an inherent right, and its regulation can be subject to secular laws.

Your comparison to weed laws is valid, as many countries regulate or prohibit substances due to their potential harm. However, the key difference lies in the motivation behind the regulation. While secular governments may restrict substances for public health or safety reasons, imposing Sharia law to ban alcohol is a clear example of religious influence on legislation.

My argument is not about advocating for a ban on alcohol or promoting libertarian atheist ideologies. Rather, it's about upholding the principles of secularism and ensuring that laws are based on neutral, evidence-driven reasoning rather than religious doctrine.
The motivation of laws doesn't matter constitutionally. The laws government is only limited by it's constitutional powers. If you disagree point to the section of the Constitution where it says they can't do it for the reasons you stated. Logically they can ban alcohol for multiple reasons.

Having religious influence doesn't contradict secularism by the way. The United States was secular and has banned alcohol for the same religious motivations before unbanning it. The temperance movement was religious . Again, you're making a distinction without understanding the context of what you're advocating for.

CrimeRe: Hisbah seized 200 cartons of alcoholic drinks in sokoto(pic) by Blue3k(m): 10:24pm On Dec 12, 2024
smokinloud:
I understand that in a federal system, states have the power to make laws. However, I'm concerned that these state laws may infringe upon individual rights and freedoms, particularly when it comes to religious freedom and personal autonomy.

Regarding your point about access to alcohol not being a constitutional right, that's a fair point. Nevertheless, the issue at hand is person freedom to what adults want and the enforcement of Sharia law in a secular state, which raises questions about the balance between state and federal power.
Lol, you're essentially saying it's ok to ban alcohol but dont say your religious beliefs influenced it. That's pretty silly considering the secular government makes laws restricting all manner of adult decisions on other drugs and vices. You can't legally smoke, buy or sell weed now sharia or no sharia. You're not governed by libertarian atheist.
CrimeRe: Hisbah seized 200 cartons of alcoholic drinks in sokoto(pic) by Blue3k(m): 10:07pm On Dec 12, 2024
smokinloud:
It's astonishing to see Hisbah overriding Nigeria's secular laws. As far as I know, there is no federal law in Nigeria that explicitly bans alcohol. The Nigerian constitution guarantees freedom of religion and separates religion from state affairs.

Given this, it's perplexing that the federal government seems to be turning a blind eye to Hisbah's actions. Why are they allowing a state-level Islamic enforcement agency to supersede national laws and impose strict Shariah regulations on citizens? WHY??.?!!!.
You're perplexed because you fail to understand States can make laws in a federal system. Access to Alcohol isn't a constitutional right. What you should be wondering is why the federal government holds prisoners for breaking state laws. These Sharia states should be forced to build their own prisons to house these law offenders.

PoliticsRe: When The National Assembly Almost Impeached Obasanjo by Blue3k(m): 4:17pm On Dec 08, 2024
I've always thought that the subservience of the National Assembly to the president was an expression of Nigerian cultural subservience to authority. Imagine my surprise when I learned today that the legislature almost impeached Obasanjo in 2002.
The legislature is subservient because the executive pays them off. The legislature is happy collecting checks and looking busy. Anything they do is normally ignored by the public because they lack basic civics education and common sense. Remember Obasanjo was the only president to get his veto overridden by NASS. Rivers State Assembly is the only other Veto override I know about. This shows they are slaves just on one accord.

Now those illegals from those neighboring African countries worked harder and better than the Nigerians counterpart. And they were cheaper and trustworthy. This was very common in the construction sector. They did excellent work ....

And am sure u were still wearing diapers in the 80'. That was the period of Ghana must go. The Ghanaian illegals were all over Nigeria at that time working and sending money home . The naira was very strong....

Instead of you rambling foolishly about your past just answer direct questions regarding the subject.

Why not hire legal migrants instead of illegals. A hard work ethic is a cultural and individual trait. Why exactly should they be allowed to break immigration and employment laws? America somehow managed to have cheap eggs for decades without illegal aliens we can do it again. They used to hire temporary workers from Mexico and other country for these jobs. Ceasar Chavez advocated for these type of workers instead of "wetbacks".

My eggs will cost $10 dollars because farmers don't want to hire more legal migrants? They already admitted half their workforce is legal. Why exactly should they be allowed to break immigration and employment laws? America somehow managed to have cheap eggs for decades without illegal aliens we can do it again. Ask yourself what's the real reason they opting for illegal labor.

2nd why is your nation and family so dependent on handouts from people abroad. Shouldn't you be worried about fixing your nation's economy so you won't need their charity?

Hi ya
Long time.

What are your views regarding Trump's victory? Americans just threw themselves under the bus

The last time I felt this sad over an election was Buhari's reelection in 2019. The absolute disaster was re-elected for a second term

Trump does not need those tariffs to create jobs. The slash in incorporate tax to 19% would turbocharge the economy alone.

It is time companies should apply pressure on him not to implement those tariffs.

Ii
Retail chains for instance can enlighten the public of what a 60% tariffs entails. Most Americans either don't know what a tariff is or that the importer pays the cost and passes it on to the consumer.

I think US companies should be proactive and not reactive. They should not fold their hands and do nothing.
I like Trumps policies for the most part. His immigration, energy, deregulation and foreign policy are better. We need to get our borders under control firstly by stopping welfare payments, next by getting rid of birthright citizenship for illegal aliens and then deport the people illegally in America 🇺🇸. The birthright citizenship will be done by the Supreme Court. The exception to birthright citizenship does include children of foreign invaders according to the Wong Kim Ark case in my opinion.

I don't like the Universal 10 tarrifs policy. There's going to be a deadweight cost regarding tariffs. Then we will have to deal with the increased cost of goods since we import items for the manufacturing process. Retaliatory tariffs will hurt our exports. Ladt time, he had to bail out farmers because who already received subsidies.

Anyway I do think he should opt to negotiate trade deals instead. The UK is starving for one after Brexit. If you do targeted tariffs it's always about national security not economic well-being of society. They usually benefit a few businesses who don't want competition like the domestic sugar industry.
