DIVINEEVIDENCE: The US has been known to be quite selfish when it comes to international trade.
I really wish we had the capacity to be self-sufficient in some of these tradable services and commodities so we can logically remove them from imports and still live comfortably.
Unfortunately, one cannot think of any aspect that we can boast of being self-sufficient in; and even the few attempts by the government to attain self-sufficiency has always been hijacked and sabotaged by figures operating under the Nigerian spirit of greed and selfishness.
We need to sit up to these foreign meddlers.
Imagine the US telling us how to operate our markets.
What rubbish! Selfish and they suffered trade deficit for several years? You don't know what you are saying. |

Kenn55: Why do some of you make stupid arguments for the sake of arguments. You have agreed that credit is good so why have you been ranting? If an idiot misuses the credit system to damage himself, is it the fault of the system or the person?
A system has been put in place for people who are not rich to use wisely and better their life. It is not compulsory to use credit so I don't understand the brouhaha.
I'm getting close to living in the west for a decade yet I haven't owned a brand new car not cos I can't walk into a dealership to finance one but cos I don't finance liabilities which I consider a car to be, I instead finance assets. I know with time, I'll own a brand new car but time never reach, I'm not in a hurry.
I have seen some people who drive brand new Mercedes cos they can finance it, paying ridiculous money monthly so they can do big man for us in church. i have seen someone who used money from his line of credit to throw a big party in Nigeria to appear rich etc. When kasala burst, will it be the fault of the system that they were stupid or their fault?
I saw an emerging opportunity with morderna and I capitalized cos I had access to credit. There are smart guys in Nigeria who can't capitalize on oportunnities cos they lack access to credit. There are people who have been renting a house in Lagos for over 20 years cos they just can't afford to own one, if 20 years ago, they were offered a mortgage, wouldn't they have finished paying for it while still living in it and enjoying it?
If billionaires still leverage on credit even when they can generate cash to fund their businesses, why can't we leverage credit to build our assets?
Brother, credit is the best thing after slice bread. If you are not disciplined or financially literate enough to effectively use it to your advantage, it is on you and not the system. Well said. |

Fujiyama: ^^^ The question is this: do the majority of us here in Nigeria really have peace? Or do we just have different problems?
Yes, the US system does keep you running. But the Nigerian system keeps you running too - its just that its a different kind of running.
The USA isn't anywhere near a model to hold up as a template for balanced, fulfilled living. That country is actually living on borrowed time. But there is still a system that has some rules at least. You just have to know what those rules are.
Nigeria also has a 'system'...but the capriciousness of that system will upend you one time, every time.
I have some simple rules I try to live by here in Nigeria: avoid will all your might, anything that will take you to the police station, the courtroom or the medical emergency room. The odds are against you from the get go. Avoid these places and one may, one just may get the peace we are all looking for. True |

CoronaVirusPro: You did not point out the lies. Just state where I lied and will throw fact at you.
Do you outrightly own your home in the US after paying it off? Why you will forever keep running. Cos it can be taken away from you if you default or taxes go haywire.
How about health unforeseen health complications? Do you have an idea how low it can take you? How many peeps got exclusive health insurance that could hold a million dollars?
Why if you hold much in the country and winning, you keep running till you stop breathing.
You own nothing! As a matter a fact, it is a business yo wait for people to get broke so you can scoop their homes cheap.
The system is built to make you keep running. A successful person in Nigeria is happier and more at peace than 90% of Americans irrespective of Nigerias economic woes.
Do you even know that system, I can take you deeper. It’s a structure I have studied for long. Illusion that you winning and own it when you own nothing! Stop arguing what you don't know. It's obvious you have not lived in US before. |

bixton: Bolded 1.... Is it because Wike called all the shots? Then why did Fubara agree to such knowing fully well what he is going into.... You don't expect me to believe that Fubara did not know......Is it ignorance or absent mindedness? What exactly was Fubara bringing to the table and why did he not present some of his own people even if they were just 3 in number?
Bolded 2...... Well there's a level of madness in everyone.....some can get away with theirs, others will meet those who will match them level for level..... It was the same overbearing that Fubara wanted to use on the RSHA that resulted in this blow out.... He wanted to reign in and rule like his predecessor, but he should have known better......He was thinking he is now governor.....it's just a title if you don't have real grassroots followers and not social media sympathizers..... Those who claimed are with him, have they not closed their mouths.....
Wike knows Rivers State and he knows them well....many have compromised because of money.....
I want to believe you knew how and what led to the emergence of Amaechi as governor.......there were no voices in the Rivers State to contend with him. Not until the issue of PGEJ and wife came up and ot was only Wike who rose to the occasion to fight Gov. Amaechi and Wike was a Minister, then......
Now, when Wike became Governor, all those who didn't have voices during Amaechi's tenure were given one by Gov. Wike and they all enjoined it...... Until the PDP presidential primaries occured and those who were on Atiku's side from Rivers State whom Wike had given them voices turned against them and he in turned showed them that they were truly and actually no body's....
That is the story line and that's the sorry state of affairs that Fubara wanted to overturn because he felt he couldn't do the wishes of his successor....
If not for Wike, it will be very distance and distant for an Opobo man to become Governor of Rivers State..... Every Rivers person knows that.... All this long epistle for someone who does not know you exist or has any of your intrest at heart. Like I said b4 Nigeria and Africans deserves the kind of leaders they have. If all you wrote is to justify Wike's action then you are far from be sensible and honest. |

mrvitalis: Nigeria is the only country that bans product they don't have substitute for
Tell me why is there a ban in frozen turkey? Do we have any substantial turkey industry?
Why is there a ban in stock fish? Is there any stock fish in our waters?
Why should there be any tariffs on wheat
Why should we ban fish like Titus and kote? Even shawa... We have no local substitute
Our economic policy makes no sense
You want to grow poultry industry but u ban mazie import, worst soya bean import
The first rule of macro economics is you can't produce everything.... Pick the ones you can produce efficiently and import the rest
People are just suffering for nothing

He wanted to incapacitate the governor and at the end who takes the blame of non performance? I remember when OBJ single-handedly and sponsored Yaradua. People were saying Yaradua was OBJ 3rd term. Against all odds, OBJ ensured Yaradua became president. But the moment Yaradua got to the office of Mr president, the first thing he did was to reverse some of the OBJ’s policies he wasn’t comfortable with. Obj did not fight him, he didn’t label him traitors. He allowed him to exercise his rights and power as the president.

Though, some can say it was more favourable to Wike than to Fubara looking at the way and manner commissioners and all the government house staffs and aids were handpicked by Wike. But I can tell you that the favour was well shared both ways. Maybe it was Fubara who did know how to play ball or didn't understand his role to be able to roll along well, if he actually knew his former boss whom he had worked with for years....... It favoured Wike more, he called all the Shots. I bet you 10 out of 10 politicians would still betrayal Wike if he made then Governor. The man is a mad man and he is over bearing. |
